Awesome. I think compared to the creek edge, there is more material and much safer. I'm so glad the macro lens is still working for you! I still use mine all the time to look at possible rocks for crushing I find. Now if you could just use your truck with that big water tank you had started for your special permission and get a recirculation system going. Use the 60 feet of hose to fill it up (even use the original hole for the discharge tub)... Lots of potential here. Just simply awesome.

I use a cement mixer to pre-wash my material. Add a little detergent, run it for a minute or two, then slowly pour off the mud. Add more water and repeat. It also works all the heavies to the back of the drum, so you don't lose them. Next I classify the material to get rid of the larger rocks. This makes sluicing a lot easier and faster. If you're in the masonry business, I know you got an extra mixer laying around somewhere. Cheers!

This location with the previous miles (mile plural) high glacier atop the land and scratching up the slope of the mountain range, all this would have originally been pushed underwater. With the retreat and melting of the glaciers, such glacier erratics or scraped off boulders, rocks, cobbles, would have come down and be laid on this "bench." Over time with the retreat of the massive weight of the glaciers, and the rise of Lake Superior, all this would have had the glacial lake lapping up against the mountain slope (as well as washing out Lake Superior evaporative gold, and Abitibi gold up onto the shoreline, and such washdown and erosion of the mountain range weathering out alluvial gold. This entire "bench" area down to the moving and erosive river/creek down below settled into its erosion channel, while the land continually rose up, the lake retreating, and such bottom Cambrian bedrock continued to push upwards with all of the sands and shinies, clays, sands, and silts, were laid down, eventually starting to lay down organic grassland and eventually forested "O" layer organics - for a sizeable depth of material (!). Yup !, you have some massive diggable shinies there ... all the way down to the Cambrian basalt and granite bedrock. How deep in that area - one only needs to go over to the river/creek and find the Cambrian bedrock there - note the elevation, then go back to the dig hole - note the elevation, and all Cambrian bedrock elevation being equal (no upward tilt southward), you have the entire feet depth of available searching that entire "bench." Definitely going to need that garden hand shovel, garden rake, mason trowel and pointer trowel. I suspect that you could literally have 20+ feet (or more) to get to bedrock. That is a lotta cubic acres of mining. Once down to the bedrock, then instead of throwing the overburden, one would then find the shiny layers, and tunnel across the bedrock and that height of shiniest in all directions - and you would be working most-excellent paydirt at the bottom.

@@FlourgoldWizards Just tell Rigby and Rex there's a fossil dinosaur BONE down there ... dig boys ! dig !!! and start pulling out those cobbles ....
The real truth (and you know it !!!) The deeper you dig, the greater the amount of shinies. that have settled deeper and deeper throughout epochs, will be creating their own blanket of gold dust, flour, pickers, flakes, and nuggets down deep above that bedrock. Time for Jason to file a potential mining claim and work it for all its worth across that entire bench (and backfill all the previous excavated areas) - and sell the cobbles for masonry works. Guaranteed - the more shinies you see - the more energy will be stimulated in digging deeper and deeper (gold fever !).

Some of the best alluvials that could be found - would be working on the northern side of the mountain range where previous commercial gold mines were worked/working. The ancient erosion and wash out of those shinies would be in a direct line down the mountain slope, pointing northward and outward to Lake Superior ... and those mentions of those northern counties with gold mentions and creeks.

After thinking on it a while. If I was you, I’d dig an access hole and once your down to the layer that you want, and have 3ft by 3ft, then you could take a small pick axe and undermine a circle around you. A buddy showed me a good way to dig out hole like that, loosen up the soils with a. Few good hits, then use a rigid vacuum about 10-15 gallon vacuum. (Take the interior filter off) and it sucks that loose soils up with no problem. That way you don’t have to dig the top soils off the areas you under mine. The soils will support for a while, like a bench on a river side.
I wonder if that would work.

You should build a 12 vdc washer Trommel and set your high banker underneath it to help with clay on the rock.

I have hand dug stuff like that before and it’s a lot of work! There better be some decent gold down there to make it worth it. Of course a small backhoe would help for something like this but it’s not always practical to use equipment.
