    As an Asian person I am deeply offended in the lack of representation in this commercial. It's like hello?! I like to BBQ, I'm a dirtbag, I mansplain... where's my guy in this commercial. Racism

    • @Unknown-ol2uh
      @Unknown-ol2uh 5 років тому +36

      @Marc Rossbridge. A lot of South Asians can grow good facial hair. I'm of Pakistani ethnicity but can naturally grow a beard that is full and thick and not patchy although I choose to keep it stubble sort of length because it looks better for me. I definitely have a shit load of leg hair too haha. Chinese are not so good at growing facial hair.

    • @whatchutalkingbout
      @whatchutalkingbout 5 років тому +113

      @Marc Rossbridge sure.. I'm with you. I have so little facial hair that my razor actually gets sharper every time I use it... but this commercial isn't selling blades, it's letting the world know masculinity is toxic... and going by the population.. there's over 4 billion asians.. that means we have more dirtbags per capita than any other continent

    "The best a man can get" was about the quality of their razor product relative to competing razor products. It was about the _product_ not the _customer_ .
    Now it has been perverted into being about the customer. They want _me_ to feel bad about myself while at the same time suggesting to others that I'm deserving of shame, and therefore it's game-off for me.
    Down with Gillette. They crossed a line which I'll never forgive them for.

    I am a woman who worked in construction for over 20 years. While I was often stereotyped as gay, it didn’t take long for people to see that I was (and am) not. My appreciation for men grew exponentially when I worked alongside them, and the respect I earned was deserved for being a woman in a tough trade. I was harassed at times and I quickly learned how to deal with it - when to handle it myself and when to get someone involved to put a stop to it if I couldn’t. Men and women are invaluable to each other and blurring lines makes the waters muddy and people confused about how unique each gender is, losing opportunities to recognize and appreciate those characteristics.

      I'm 38 and I've seen people reword/repeat ideas and take credit for women's ideas many times in meetings. I've been patted by older men at work, I was referred to as a girl for all of my twenties and well into my 30s during meetings (or even worse, 'one of our girls back in the office' while at client meetings where I'm actually the one who produced the content of the report we're having the meeting about), and have silently sat through situations where I'm described as 'looking after' a project but a man is 'taking the lead' on a similar project in a similar role. That said, in recent years I've also had a man interrupt a meeting to force the room to listen to and genuinely consider my idea, I'm now described as a 'project lead' when I am one and I haven't had to cope with someone in a position of power calling me a good girl for a long time. I do have hope for the next generation of men and women to be better than we've ever been before. It's made such a difference to my confidence and I think even my work output to be treated with respect and included in a team. I hope this is the normal for men and women in the future. I don't doubt that you've never witnessed this behaviour but I do doubt that it's never happened in any of your workplaces. It could be that you weren't picking up on what can be subtle yet still powerful, or maybe people have been doing it when you aren't around to hold them accountable. Just because you haven't personally witnessed it does not mean it's not a lived experience for many of us. I hope you can consider the possibility that our experiences have been different but they are both still true.

    I grew up in a family with 3 other brothers. Fighting/yelling happens a lot and is a part of brotherhood and growing up together. At the end of the day we still love each other and would go to lengths to protect one another.
    Fighting with your brother(s) helps you understand your capabilities of being cruel and inflicting pain. Which in turn teaches you how to control your emotions and regulate your force when getting into an altercation.
    If you have ever play fought with a younger kid/toddler you will notice that most of the time they will end up kicking you in the face or slapping you way too hard because they haven't yet learned how to control that part of themselves. It takes trial and error and accidentally hitting someone too hard (in a playful capacity) to understand that your actions have consequences.
    Outside of playful interactions there is still an argument to be made. Sometimes two people dont get along until they knock some sense into each other. I've had best friends fight physically, get over it, and realize they really don't want to fight anymore because they know they work better together. Yes, boys will be boys. Don't lump that in with perverts and douchebags that dont treat male or females right. Shittiest ad I've seen in awhile. I'll take the Kendal jenner Pepsi ad Part 2 over this

      Because when two adults fight, it's assault and illegal. So teaching your kids that violence is fine is stupid. Now teaching them self defense so they aren't helpless is a good thing, but never encourage violence. Lord knows there's more than enough hate and violence in the world as it is.

      @pardsmcgee2924 5 років тому +5

      Not at all. Just because the message is for men does not rule out the toxic behaviours of women. It is simply a call for them to be better. Also the wrestling is oversimplified, wrestlinng in itself is alright, but they can be fighting over a toy or something. Lets always keep an open mind

The rest of men-kind who does not fit their image and vigurously grovels in agreement is dogshit in their eyes - and they want everyone to think the same. Women have enough advertising telling us we can/do/need to be better. I don’t see men up in arms about the toxicity of the beauty fashion industry targeting women? And the way they target us is to buy into their nonsense that we need their product to be prettier so society will love us. This ad targets men to say: don’t be a bystander, because you are better & we can all be better human beings. But yeah, poor f*cking men here.

    • @Mregypt06

      @@kildareire you make a good in that, these commercials are still just, corperate propaganda with the main purpose of getting its target audience to believe the product is the answer. It's all lies to begin with, and here the whole internet is, taking it seriously.
      Of course there is no reference to toxic femininity, women aren't they're target audience. Of course white men are the bad guys, white people are the least likely to give a shit and ruin profits with protest and boycotts. And why would they even think about using an entire race to hold a mirror to, when that would literally ostracize a 1/8 or better of their potential profits, when they could instead advertising to half the fucking world. I don't think these ads are as big of a problem so much as what it is we as a collective choose to give a shit about and try to change.
      Not once until now have I heard mainstream shit legitimately advertise raising our kids better.
