- Capac and I have returned to Mars to begin again, maybe this time we'll understand a little more about what's going on, or maybe we won't...

Intro music from Artlist.io
Just for the sake of hearing Capac say "Walk without rhythm", I'm gonna make a rudimentary desert survival game and put that feature in. Just give me a couple months!
I like how out of nowhere Capac says, “I am Bender, please insert girder”, that made me laugh
I like how you told Capac not to waste his power but you're running around with suit lights on in daylight :P
Some tips if you like.
1)
From starting stuff You can do grow-house in 1st day on moon and mars (as they are not too cold and sun efficiency is above 50%). Do 3x3, put airlock on one side and windows on top and other sides - place it that airlock is north-south, so windows will take more sun.
pressure it with big oxygen tank, and add co2 from your waste tank - You need 30Kpa minimum. Use flares to heat up it to 17C (not more than 22C). balance it using portable AC but will drain batteries quickly
use portable grow plot and water tank to grow tomatoes
over time - make microwave and make tomato soup
2)
Portable battery chargers are useless (and most of portable things) - try to get placable battery ASAP - so You will need gold and steel (and electronics printer)
Furnace for steal - if you manage to add valve, pipe and vent, load ores first (150 Iron, 50 coal), vent, and eject mixture, close vent (or even remove that pipes), start furnace and when it heat up, open mold and insert ready mixture - this will give you steel on every insert and since you vented gases before, pressure and temp will change slower.
When you have steel, build battery, and place solid generator and hook it up with heavy cable (as regular one will burn). Charge battery to almost full (usually stop when there is one status led missing) and turn on it when battery is "blinking" - this way your coal generator will be at max efficiency to resource.
If you want to add solar to this mix, no need to use heavy cables all time - put small transformer close to battery, directing towards battery, crank it up to max (5kW), and plug solar to it using regular cables. You can add more Solar panels but until you will get them automated (IC10 preferably) they will be very inefficient - having like 6-8 in a row and manually set them to various directions where sun can/will be, will give some power boost (depends on planet, up to 500W per panel at peak, more likely will cover suit and basic machinery power)
Batteries will loos charge if in cold.
3) remodel base to collect gases. Use steel frames as they cheaper and easy to make
Use (gas) furnace if possible -> faster, no electricy, out of box capture gases. Hook up it to some tank via manual valve and pump. at some stage You will filter:
- co2 for greenhouse - your waste tanks will be ok for now
- o2 for suit
- water for greenhouse
- pollutants as coolant (heat exchange) of base (some early need for automated greenhouse)
To melt ice ores, pre heat furnace and add them. If you plan to melt Oxygen and/or Hydrogen one, use one type at time and vent fully - otherwise they might combust creating co2 and pollutants (and explode furnance).
I'll say plan your filter room early, put tanks under roof, so they will cool down, as gases will be hot (300C)
If you want to use arc furnace, you will need to build it in sealed room and have active vent to collect gases. DO NOT ADD hydrogen ore unless you want to see fireworks.
4) while having gas collector, I usually work on power room (6-12 big batteries) and automation of solar panels - slowly build it up. In same time build proper greenhouse (or adopt one you have, but in many cases the 1st one I did I do remove.
Said greenhouse will need:
- plots
- heater(s)
- cooler (or radiators but can be too drastic temp change)
Pipes: (co2, water, pollutant)
- pump (to pressurize water in plots so you do not need to keep all pipe infrastructure at high level)
- active vent (to add co2)
- way of removing excess air (and oxygen) - passive vent + backlog valve will be fine.
ic10 automation - if lazy: shameless advert, on steam workshop "Greenhouse HAVAC Atmo (ttr)" - simple and have some issues but will get you started
build rest of base as You like - start from oxygen for suit.
Also, unless it was fixed, jetpack can fly on anything - compress planet atmo if you need)
Gas generator is very efficient but will need proper automation, climate control - very simple is to keep it outside and have simple one to trigger start every 2-3 game ticks until batteries are charged, while keep h2-o2 mix(36/64 IIRC) on low pressure (1pa). Mentioning this as I had excess of h2 and o2 so managed this way to keep my power up, while worked on roof and solar deployments (2-4x5kW peak, separated with transformers - make sure sum of power is below 5kW on each leg before transformers).
Filters in filtering machines use base on time filtering, not volume filtered. Is good to have 'dirty' tank and if it's get close to full (or some good volume), start your filtering.
Get base beacon so you will be able to mine at night w/o getting lost - battery operated one bite me in but too many times.
Also, using console for Solar panel is useless - console consume quite a bit power. In airlock disable console (switch on side) it will not use any power but airlock will work, using doors keypad.
You can manufacture food (seeds/eggs) but it's late game and will need very huge amount of power

You forgot to add - Splitsie miraculously not getting lost within 50m of base :P
there is something beautiful about visible wires, pipes, and the dark trussed steel that makes the game more exciting.
its what i like about star wars; the lived-in feel
Come on Splitsie, we need tutorials from you on this game. My kid saw me watching you and Capac play this a ways back and decided to get a couple of copies of the game for Father's Day so we can play it together. Now he expects me to figure the game out and teach it to him. Your SE tutorials got me from hopeless to competent. I haven't even been able to get through the in game tutorials on this game. Help me Obi-Splitsie, you are my only hope. And have Capac blow a few things up so I know what not to do.
Lol I feel the same way. Hopefully Splitsie fingers this one out fast, I could really use the help right about now.
@@longtribe3401 It does have a pretty steep learning curve.
There might be a chance of me doing tutorials for the stuff up to the stage we got to in this stream, which for a lot of people is probably enough to allow them to feel comfortable to mess around. I just need to get my head into the integrated circuit logic so I can teach that in a way that isn't 90% wrong but somehow still functions :P
@@Flipsie Anything would help. Tried watching some other vids but things just didn't compute with the way they tried to explain things. Even the basics like the menu's and inventory management seem overly complicated. A list and order of the things you need to build would help a lot as well. Like you did on your beginner SE vids. Your teaching style seems to sink into the older, techno challenged grey cells better than the few other sources I've been able to find.
@@npenick66 Saddamo De Beers have done some tuto : ua-cam.com/channels/n81QWsLur0BR7NPBArujVg.html
"Capac decoys as lighting rods" you must be shocked Capac ;)
unleash the ultimate power of this fully functional Capac.....
Tip, with wirecutters in one hand and cablecoil in the other, you can just add coil to an existing coil run to merge them without having to cut out the existing part first. Hopefully, that is coherent enough, lol
almost had a disaster in the green house, Splitse doesn't close the door behind him when he is in the green house and Capac was looking in through the door like he wanted to come in.
I like how Capac is taking to it like a duck to water though referring to him starting to pre-emptively adjust the solar panels to position for morning, Learning Capac is fun and knowing Capac is pleasing.
I think it's possible Capac could teach me a thing or two as we go along :)
Splitsie you don't need to cut a wire to add a direction to it, if you have a straight piece laid out and you try to place a 90 degree bend on it it will create a T-junction. if you place a straight piece across a straight piece it will create a 4 way cross etc.
Rewatching this series is a treat! I really hope you can get capac to return and maybe bring an extra along :) this game has so much potential and it’s fun seeing the thinking process in your guy’s heads
I hope to get him back at some point too, potentially for an even tougher survival challenge ;)
@flipsie did you know you can 'adjust' cables without having to remove them (most of the time) by taking your wirestripper in the offhand. adding a 90deg corner to a straight line will then convert the piece into a T... etc etc.
Happy to see this back! Just snuck out of bed away from the wife so I can sit and watch in peace. Couch. Coffee. Capac. Splitsie. Bliss! Keep up the good work you two 😍😃
For me it's currently 00:45 am and I'm meant to be asleep (I'm 12) I love stationeers
Glad you're enjoying it - sleep might be useful too though :P
Splitsie I’m an indie developer, I don’t get to sleep anyway, and what better reason to be awake than fresh ZM content. Really should start catching you on twitch during the streams!
Nic Nicholson you just be on UK time same as me then, get some sleep! you’re a kid! 😂
Happen to know that Otter Insanity is in Glasgow too.
What games you developing?
There's also Cody's Lab, who did a series on refining Uranium from actual pitchblend. Did a couple of videos, up to yellowcake. Then he got a friendly visit from the Feds, who kindly asked for him to stop making videos about that sort of thing (national security and stuff), remove those he already made, and confiscated some radioactive material.
NaHCO3 that’s kinda retarded though as it’s arguably against freedom of speech, especially since that information can be found elsewhere
Glad to see more of this!
I'm glad we're back to it :)
Same here, this game looks so interesting and yall are always entertaining.
Indeed
14:55 Capac "I want space Maccas!" Splitsie "You've got food at home."
If you hold down the l-alt to get mouse control, you can pick up the ingot from the ground and place it into another receptacle.
"YOU need to rotate ninety degrees." I simply can't stop laughing at this, and I don't know why.
It’s been said that the best way to learn something is to teach someone else. Maybe making a tutorial is exactly what you need in order to master this game.
It could well be :)
You have so much patience!
Sorry for all the comments, cablecoils can also be made on the electroprinter
Flipsie thank you for doing these videos and your solar tracking setup works really well. I have learned a lot from you on this game and Space Engineers which isn't bad for a novice player.
Thanks :)
@@Flipsie You're welcome and btw do you have any videos about the rover?
I'm so used to playing on the moon, seeing all the CO2 escape from the arc furnace makes me twitch.
lol I bet it would :P
Cannot exclaim how excited I was to see this come up on the UA-cam’s! Dood! Would have loved to see this live, but it’s good to at least see you guys jumping on the streams more often again! Especially stationeers. This game has soooo many opportunities for calamity.. perfect fit for the two of you!
I really can't wait to get set up enough to mess around with overpressured systems for fun :)
Flipsie aka capac rockets... I’ve flung myself far enough with unexpected pressure releases before, that I’ve lost my base.. lol
So in my case I'd have to launch myself about 15 m then? :P
Haven't caught up on the 2nd video yet but wanted to let you know the electronics printer is much quicker at building cable than the auto fab @Flipsie
When capac randomly goes "ah"
💯
1:9:20 Splitsie did cause a short circuit and burned wires though.
Glad your back to the game. /tiphat
Must say, I haven't figured out how they eat the cereal bars with their helmets on.
It might be best not to think about that, I'm sure there are some unpleasant looking tubes involved :P
You guys are awesome!! One of these days I’ll catch your stream!
Hopefully :)
This comment is to feed the algorithm and let it know this is a good video that deserves to show up in search
Thanks :)
Not even 6 minutes in and Capac had me laughing "and that's the tooth"
He does have that skill :)
Woah, did they implement adiabatic compression? Temperature in the airlock pipe was raising above ambient while filling. Temperature and pressure used to be completely independent.
They do seem properly linked, but I can't remember a time when they weren't ( but it's quite possible I just wasn't paying attention)
nice to see you guys playing this game, i enjoy it aswell keep going whit the video's
1:00:13 make all power go through the APC first to power stuff properly
Satisfactory is really fun, and I would love to see you and capac play it. but thats your choice
Fun Episode!! Looking forward to seeing more!
I’m soo happy to see this hope it continues for a long time
I'd say we'll probably go for about as long as we did with Scrap Mechanic, unless we get really stuck into something silly, then it could be longer :D
Flipsie Please don’t stop till all the resources are automated using auto miners and auto gas powered furnaces that would be very nice to see
Capac looks like the nerdy book worm from scool, with that tablet
You do know you can use the wrench to remove the chests from the lander to make them easier to access
Halo with DE and Nab sounds so very exciting, hehe. Coop subnautica is also a great idea, would love to see you both go through that!
i dunno whats worse watching this first from capac's point of view ... or watching it again ...
what does one need to make a micro wave ... a very small paddle ;)
Capac wondering why the microwave was going inside ... perfect answer so bacteria can have some fun too ... they now have a micro wave pool ... now Capac needs to make them a little paddle and boat ;)
one thing you guys have learned is a 4x12 floor grid is about the size of starter base you need to work from ... to have room for power food and processing ... also that getting the solar up will be better for space needs as well ... one third green house, one third power, one third work area ... but power and work can SHARE the same area as soon as you can make stairs ... so if you start with a 4x 8 grid floor ... and leave space for another 4x4 section on the end opposite the green house ... you then can build a roof over the work area, move the solar panels up and add more to the roof section that you built where the solar panels were ... making room for a larger work area and more power input ... and this area can be made ready for being air tight too ... double the size of your work area and power supply in one step and increase the productivity of the base as well with more room to build a better base .... with the solar array roofed ... you can now expand the work area in 3 different directions and still add 2 more greenhouse areas in line with the first one .. all separate from each other ... or interconnected with a basic door ... since all three rooms will be pressurized anyway ... then just the door into the green house from the work area buildings needs a pressure door ... and you can then also keep pressure in the base when stuff happens in one section ... ( makes repairs to the base section dependant only not base dependant ... have no zone larger than the double sized work space without at least a door between them)
your furnace ejector doesnt have enough storage for a good whoosh into orbit ... you need more pipe between the furnace and the dump valve .. a one way vale from the furnace would be good too ... or a shutoff for when you want to launch ... then you have a shot built and open the dump valve and go for a ride ... then close the dump valve as needed and open the furnace one to reload ... or let off pressure
.
the other option is move the switch to just before the bend into the vent ... then when you open it you have about 6 pipe lengths of pressure to go whoosh with
Building logic circuits is not much different from building factories (e.g. Satisfactory). You just build sums and products instead of rotors and stators. Your conveyor network becomes a cable network.
Possibly not the best comparator for me since I didn't really enjoy satisfactory :P
57:00 How do I build stairs?
You need to build them in a thing
Is this game too technical for someone like myself, with all this lingo and jargon? :)
You either have to do Custom World and enable research, or you'll need to edit your world.xml save and change the tag from ResearchOff to ResearchOn. You've already built some things that were locked behind research.
Oh no! I didn't realise it wasn't enabled by default :(
All games lose in a couple of days due to the release of 'Destroy all humans' re-make ;-)
i need some bros to play this with, this is a stupid fun game.
Try their discord channel, they have a "looking for groups" thread.
@@IneptGuard the link acts up when i try it for some reason
I never realised you could use a console to control solar panels, I always would rush to make automatic tracking and never tried that!
I wonder if Splitsie knows research has to be manually enabled via the custom world options? they shouldn't have been able to make the logic chips without researching them first if it was enabled
I didn't know :(
4:40 proper size for my 55" tv hehe 🙌
I thought when you said we need to find some copper we need to find some capac Edit: is it possible to make mars habitable (add oxygen to the atmo etc)
resource and inventory management are a big part of this game. Stack mod kinda breaks that a bit but may be better from a youtuber perspective.
Just started a rewatch of this series. Any chance you two will return to Stationeers in the near future? I really like to watch you two, playing the game. I'm not sure I'd enjoing playing it myself as much - a lot of it feels unnecessaryly overcomplicated, especially the UI and controls.
EDIT: fixed a typo
I haven't managed to convince Capac to yet but I'll keep trying :)
@@Flipsie I was afraid this might be the case. Anything we can do to help convince him? Sending food? Alcohol? Money? ;)
I would love to see you guys play Empyrion. Alpha 12 was released. Big changes.
This may be a dumb question but why didn't you just pressurize by melting some oxides in the room, both increasing pressure and adding o2?
because his airlock doesnt work, everytime he enters the room hes adding mars atmos, meaning he is slowly pressurizing the room and after awhile like that it will explode, mars airlocks need to be a double airlock design to seperate the two atmospheres entirely
Nice job guys
Thanks :)
I subscribed your other channel (splitsy) and i have never seen this one before so when i heard your voice i subscribed instantly
They look like robots with a living human head
...this gives me a space station 13 feel
And that it should :)
@@Flipsie so you and capac with friends in a proper ss13 private server when?
You should edit the game file and add the grounders down in capac's hole, that will teach him. He thought the spiders were bad!!
You've got me interested, is this a thing I could actually do? ;)
@@Flipsie yes it is, you can use notepad++ to open the game file and make it creative, add a few grounders and the reverse the process. Let the chaos begin😁.
Taken from reddit: open the save file Stationeers
ocketstation_Data\StreamingAssets\Data\worldsettings
Open up the file using any text editor.
Then, find "Mars" [Moon]
Just a few lines below that, you can find gamemode [ Survival]
Simply change that to creative, or vise versa if you are on space mode.
That's all! You can go have fun now!
What do you think of interstellar rift? I'm not sure you'd fully enjoy it but it's ok my computer ran on windows 7 so I couldn't install the drivers to play it but from what I've seen it looks good.
Another possiblity is from the depths it's a bit of a stretch but if you like designing ships boats planes it could be fun just to build.
Edit :spelling
William Intemann there’s a few other really interesting space games in beta right now, like Hellion
you don't need to remove the cable to replace it :)
Empyrion has gotten a lot of updates that might surprise you🧐🧐🧐
any chance of a new playthrough here in Stationeers?
naturally, a few more players like Kanajashi and Nab/D.E. would make life funny interesting!
I'm not sure who would be likely to enjoy it but you're right, I might have a better chance of getting Capac back to Stationeers if I bring an extra along ;)
@@Flipsie
I'll have to look on Steam and see if the game is available, but it's something I probably would like given it is kind of similar to S.E..
oh man, youtube is such a tease... I got notification and "WOW! Splitsie is streaming on my day off!" only to notice second later its replay from before :C
I don't remember what i was screaming in my mind to you when watching replay on twitch but most of it was told to you by chat anyway.
Only that again nobody remind you, cables are done twice as fast in electronics printer ;)
Oh yeah! I remembered that bit the wrong way around :P
Oh fine, i'll buy another game :) Well re-buy, this looks like its come a long way since its initial release
I'd say so, I didn't play much when it first came out, but it certainly feels more like a proper game these days - at least for the first 20 or so hours of a save :)
How cool is that? I re-started playing this game a couple of days ago after not touching it for months.
It's great that I've been mostly playing the same games as you. I've also been playing Raft and Scrap Mechanic recently. Though I actually bought Raft because of watching you and I had Scrap Mechanic for quite a while but barely played it before.
Hopefully you'll be able to give us some tips as I'm sure you'll get ahead (and probably already are ahead) of us in Stationeers, the integrated circuit stuff often hurts my brain and I get the impression you'll be quite good at that bit:P
Yeah, I'm way ahead of you. I've managed to blow up my greenhouse already. What have you blown up yet? Haha!
I'm actually at the same point as you. But yeah, no issues with circuits. :-)
By the way, you can now build stuff on iron walls. It was implemented in a recent update. Still not on glass walls which I guess makes sense.
Do machines and things still firmly grab hold of you if you brush up against them?
Not like they used to thankfully :)
@@Flipsie So yes then?
Why are you using 2 frames per solar panel? You can easily place one per frame and have the wiring along the edges.
I like having the extra space to make moving around easier
I'd love to see you 2 play Subnautica together.
Hopefully we find some time to give it a go as I'd love to have another playthrough of it too :)
Yes, it sure would! Splitsie said that he played it almost to the end before it was finished so now he doesn't want to repeat the whole progress again anytime soon. But maybe we'll see them playing it sometime in the future. :-)
I made the mistake of playing it through not too far from when they'd completed the story, thankfully that's so long ago now that I should be able to enjoy it all again as though it's the first time :)
I'm getting ready to replay Subnautica myself. I've got a VR rig showing up soon and want to try it with that.
SE capac is a lot different than Stationers capac, both of you sometimes get tense, which tells me that this game is pretty intimidating to learn.
Yep, it really is. There's just so much that we both don't understand that I think we're ever so slightly more likely to actually help each other :P
@@Flipsie at least no one is getting smooshed by solar panels, or ripping their suits lol
@8:05 does that make you Space First Lady?
Space Opposition leader? :P
Was it this game or Astroneers that has very very complex building? SE is about as complex as I can handle lol. When are they going to add more NPC stuff to vanilla SE. Love yer vids and love you and Capac!
This is far more complex than anything I've seen in Astroneer, from what I watched back in the early days of it I'd say Stationeers>>Space Engineers>>>>Astroneer in terms of complexity
@@Flipsie Thanks! I will give Astroneer a go then hehe.
@@TheCaptDude Astroneer is fairly simple, but a beautiful game in terms of appearance. Missed the sale by a day though.
@Thadius Barkin You are much smarter than me hehe. Space Engineers is pretty much my limit. When things get too complex, I can't deal with it. But I am glad you got into this Genre. It is one of my favorites! I might try Astroneer some day.
I’ve been playing this with my Girlfriend and it’s interesting... Even when everything brakes
Yeah there is no ‘if’ with this game it’s always when. Then it becomes how and then how to fix it
Is this game wife-friendly? My wife plays WoW, Overwatch and Minecraft :-p
She knows how code with the system the game uses
@@ShamblerDK I don't think this game is friendly to anyone except maybe civil engineers.
This game is interesting but also weird. I'm only 17 minutes in and I'm sitting here wondering how the furnace is being powered when the solar panel wasn't built until after the sun went down and the battery wasn't fully assembled either.
You can't make an omelette without exploding a few plants? Pretty sure you can...
finally another stationeers vid
I'd appreciate not getting comments like this, while you may not intend it the use of 'finally' makes it read as though you're saying 'it's about time' as opposed to 'YAY it's here!' which in almost all contexts is quite rude.
if you Understand this I'm sorry but you have your very own Simon
You know there is a beacon for the tracker right? :-)
Yep, but they run out of battery super fast whereas tracking each other seems to work quite nicely most of the time :)

Lol
🤣
I love this game...
Every time I play it it grows on me a little more - probably because a little more of it makes sense :)
Now when you start you get a none adjustable solour panel now
Subbed for this!
Glad you're enjoying it :)
this video was uploaded on my birthday lol
the switch on the microwave itself looked off.
print wires in electro printer.....much quicker!
I'm going to try my best to not forget that (again) :P
@flipsie for tutorials check out seddamo De beers channel for stationers
Have you guys tried No Mans Sky? that one has one hell of a learning curve
We've played a bit of NMS over on our shared channel ua-cam.com/users/zebramonkeys but it didn't really grab me (and quite badly frustrated me at times) so we haven't been back. Maybe one day we will, but I'm not in a hurry to return :/
They have played it before. I think there's a couple of videos. But not their thing, I believe. Quite frankly, not my thing either. I got it half price and still regret.

Hi this is the first time is has seen this game.
No idea this exsited hype is real
4 hour episodes. I get why you make them so long given the game, but i think 20 minute or 40 minute episodes would be for engaging.
OOHHHHH it was a live stream on twitch. my bad.
Ok I heard him say their first ever video was Jan 26 2016, My Birthday is Jan 26 lol. he released his first video when I was 8.
Geez, as if I wasn't feeling old enough after having my birthday last week :D
I think you guys should play "eco"
Need to re-add the quality of life 50 ore mod. (For your sanity... lol)
Couple of QOL things I have discovered since learning this game in the time since you introduced it to me in your previous play of it.
If you dont plan on mining the entirety of a large vein in a location, leave one (or more) of the relevant ore pieces visible (unmined) on the surface to denote its location for quick "I need a bit of X" moments.
Regarding lighting: once battery recharging is no longer an issue, putting one of the portable light stands in the inventory slot of the suit (same place as the credit card slot) while its on will provide alot of portable ambient light without cluttering up your "actual" inventory. This does have some weird shadow issues with some of the higher tier helmets/backpacks/suits, but is absolutely worth it from a "you can see" and "your viewers can see" during the night half of the game.
Oh interesting, I'll do my best to look into the portable lights during the next stream as that would be handy :)
Hi you committed on my commit on unspeakables channel!! Love your vids I know you will do great!!
Conan MMO ish can play in single player or co-op mode all good considering ive got no one to play with LOL
is it me or does the voice of fplisie looks like splitsie? and if they are the same person, what happend?
Have a look at the channel info page - this is me, I use this channel as where I post my stream vods because of the way the youtube algorithm appears to work and how having things like this on my main channel would harm discoverability :)
#1 turn down suit temp and pressure to save battery.
This is painful watching them play this.
