In order to gain access to drill mode 2; drag the drill icon from 'Block Tools' onto your hotbar. Instead of acting like a switch, it will now act like your hand drill, using left click for drill mode 1 and right click for drill mode 2.

Is it just me, or is this game WAY more enjoyable to watch when the person playing isn't making everything they do into some ultra-optimized mess. This was definitely a fun watch! And yeah, that other guy that said this needs a "Part 2" is right
I mean take 24:44 for example he goes 100ms into his base because he “can’t” see yet he has a distance marking for his base and he’s going full blast 30 meters from his base
I would suspect it's just that most of SE content creators are experienced, their gameplay style revolves around the same thing - messing with the physics and mechanical blocks. So, it could be that this is just a fresh air in terms of content. But of course, personal preferences apply and all that.
Welcome to the engineers club! This is one of the few games that you can sink 1000's of hours into and still have new things to learn. I'm a few hours away from 5500, and still find it immensely enjoyable. Definitely need a part 2 to this video.
8:34 In case no one has mentioned it yet (which is unlikely considering there are a thousand comments and the video is a year old), the "unknown signal" supply drops have a button on them that you're supposed to press. Click the button and A) the pod will shut down, stopping the timer and ceasing any avoidance system that may be active, and 2) will grant you a chance at winning a new skin. Press the button and then loot 'n grind.
If you have an Ai move block, turn it on and have it set to "planet align gravity" + a few gyros(depending how big your ship/rover is) it will correct your orientation if your flipped over like at 20:40
I've got over 1500 hours in SE and every one of us started like this! I'd watch your series for sure, it looks fun, engaging and I like your play style. Looking forward to your new VODs!
You have begun the journey of space engineers. You are now obligated to provide us with more space engineers content. As an engineering veteran, I permit you to pass as a space engineer, but you have much to learn. I normally teach new players everything needed to know, but because of your popularity that might never happen. Up to you, honestly. But I look forward to seeing more content like this in the future. Praise Lord Clang, may your grids be stable and your shaking few.
As someone with 5000 hours, I can confidently say that no one knows how to become a real engineer. They will choose you. Be kind, be honest, be courteous, don't be afraid to experiment, run fast. Clang will have his all-seeing eye on you. When the time comes, and the stars align correctly, the world hears your name, he will grant you ascension.
i got 200hours in this game and ive struggled alot to understand it. Afther this video and the moon start one, i gave it a shot, and holy smokes im gaving a blast, i downloaded the mods you use, and that made the experience so mutch more fun. you my friend earned my sub. Cheers mate and keep up the great work!
I enjoyed it. I don't even know how long I've had the game at this point its been so long. Watching someone go through all the mistakes I have ever made in one play thru was impressive. The last play through I built a base Near a faction station, built a conveyor system to just outside the outpost, built a storage building that was the same grid as my original base, then separated it and made a piston set to connect my old base to it. Then I just connected the two of them when I wanted to deliver to storage, and use the storage building with conveyors and pistons to connect to the faction station to deliver items. Everything was automated so I would just take contracts and fulfil them over and over. I would just fly over take a bunch of contracts, extend the base arm to it and then just comply with the contracts. 😆
For your drills you need to pick the drill option from the "tools" menu. That way itll be controlled by your mouse and left and right click will work as normal
Very entertaining, love the way you narrated the vid. And as someone with almost 3k hours on SE, I felt every step, every happy little mistake and every shenanigan you went through.😂
200 DAYS LETS GOO Seriously tho I laughed so much at this video. Was awesome and I watched the whole way through. If you did 200 days I'd click instantly
I couldnt believe my eyes when i saw that video! Thank you for giving this awesome game attention, i really like your commentary and was able to follow along and feel with your ship crashes d: Would love to see more.
@@SurvivalBobGaming The idea with the asteroid refuel Station is good, you could try that (never forget to pressurise rooms in space with air vents and always keep your eyes out for leaks.) You could also make a stationary Space station between earth and moon to act as a dock for your ships and maybe even make a ship and repair yard with welders ;)
I have had space engineers in my steam account for years and never played it, this is the first video i have watched in all those years that has made me want to play it.
Awesome, loved it! I heard so many good things about Space Engineer but this is so far the only showcase that actually convinced me think about buying it. - I will when I have time to actually dig into it. It looks like something that eats through your whole day when you first start it haha.
Oh, yeah. It definitely eats away at your time. At first you'll learn the mechanics of the game and fumbling about like Bob did. But, it gets super rewarding once the more you learn and improve. :)
Hello Bob! Just found your channel. A couple of tips. Use the admin menu (Alt+F10) to turn off garbage collector. This is why your first ship disappeared. Second, if you want welders, grinders and drills on ships to behave like player tools, don't pull them into your hotbar from the block menu. Instead, hit g, go down to the block tool tab, and pull them into the hotbar from there! Happy Engineering!
I have played space engineers for so long that most of the stuff you struggle with is just natural to me. accept for not crashing your miner that's just a thing you always have to deal with.
For 30:00 thruster override disables manual movement. You must have had your override at 0.1 so you couldn’t see why your thruster wont auto dampen. Edit : Nevermind. Still check for override, it can be really sneaky. Also i made it to the end.
I'm so happy you started with the prospector. It is by far the best early game ship to buy. With a separated jump module you can dock to it can basically do everything. Also kindve proves the viability of large ships to newer players.
Wow your in space engineers community your from no mans sky thank for the guides I did a funny and went through like 25 galaxy's over a loving ship cause I was told galaxy affects color even tho i learned it changes anyway based on galaxy was a joy ride lol
Hell Yeah I'm hitting Like & Sub, I had a blast watching you play and the narration is freaking good. I have 50 hours in this game, but I'm too dumb to figure how to make good rovers or ships, so 95% of the mats I get is with a hand-drill lol. Now lets see in your list what other games you played that I want to watch!
As someone with only just shy of 100 HRS in this game, your playthrough is AWESOME! I love the storytelling aspect as well as the fact that you don't just "Save Spam" like I would if I had destroyed my brand new ship on takeoff! Sheesh!!! LOL Anyway, love the series and I agree with everyone else when I emphatically say PART DUECE!!!
I can't wait for the mega-space drills, dreadnaughts and drone carriers in the next installments. As someone with over 1000 hours, this was a great journey that brought back many memories of anger, tears and joy during my own trials.
Omg! the mistakes, the crashes, doing everything the hard way! I remember it all! The flashbacks! This game has a very steep learning curve, and I'd love to be able to experience it like a newbie again. Very fun video!
This is really good Bob! I loved your take on Star Citizen some months ago - I took it as a warning to keep playing No Man's Sky and let SC percolate some more. But I bought Space Engineers. Let's see if Bob liked it!
please do more of these video's Bob, I found it very entertaining to watch. I only started playing a few months ago abd it is encouraging to see others progress through the game, with the great story line you had with it.
Edit: Part 2 is out now! ua-cam.com/video/3JNNVeMUbJo/v-deo.html Thanks for watching and all the encouraging comments. I’m working on another Space Engineers video now. I’m starting a new save but I’ll be starting on the moon this time which is where I left off. Drop suggestions for mods or challenges here so I can keep track. Thanks!
A mod suggestion is the modual encounters mod collection for space engineers it adds a bunch of AI factions hostile and neutral instead of just space pirates and trade stations. It is also highly configurable!
The build and repair system mod, it helps you build or grind grids, through nano bots, like it welds everything you place, but it takes parts from your container, or grinds down grids you paint in a special color.
This definitely needs a part 2, also for mining ships if you haven't figured it out yet, just hold the right mouse button to bore into a the voxels without collecting materials.
As someone with almost 2000 hours in space engineers, i love the way you think about the game, when i started out i was so curious about everything wanting to learn everything there was to learn about the game, after that i found my way and got into a routine, then i discovered multiplayer and started learning about ship constrution, eventually designed a shipyard capable of fully printing large grid ships automatically without mods, then i got back into singleplayer and just started making my own fun roleplaying with myself and pretending people were there when they really werent, set up a base on every planet and made a great large grid ship i dubbed the star liner, it has an autopilot that can avoid asteroids that i use to fly me anywhere i want, my first time flying to mars was in a little large grid ship with a sleeper and no jump drive, took me all day to fly there but that sense of accomplishment was amazing since i essentially built the ship as i flew there, that one i dubbed the survivor since it had only a tiny room in the back with atmosphere and the rest of the ship looked like a giant ribcage, it also had an auto pilot
I had a lot of fun watching this, as it brought back many many memories of starting SE. I hope you'll continue onward along the journey :) For mining ships you build, you might consider using sorters and ejectors to pull stone out of your onboard cargo and push it out of the ship. It's nice for efficiency.
I JUST LOVE IT. This video contained all of my early game pains and was really fun to watch. Justlike Lukethenatable videos it's so immersive and engaging. I hope you'll keep making such content and I cant wait for the next part!!!
Definitely give this a part two. Some things you’ll probably want to know for part two that I noticed you struggled with in this: -For controlling the drills you’ll want to go into the block tools tab on your G menu when setting up the cockpit bar actions and assigning that. It won’t pull up the list of actions like it would with the grouped drills. Doing this will allow you to control the drills like you would hand drills which means you can clear a lot of -stone quickly without taking up your inventory -For mining ships its smart to have a stone sorting system to deal with excess stone so you have more cargo space for ore. This is especially necessary when mining stuff like gold while planet side since gold spawns in very thin veins. What you’ll need is a conveyor line leading to some sorter blocks. Since it’s stone you’ll only need the small ones make sure you have the arrow on the block facing away from the conveyor line as the sorters are only one way. Then you set up the sorters to whitelist then add stone to the filter list. On the end of the sorters put an ejector (they’re now called small connectors btw) and have them set to collect all and throw out. If you want to disable the system so you can collect stone, I usually bind collect all on the ejectors to turn off and on in my cockpit. -for quickly setting up a gps of a location in an emergency you can use chat commands instead of using the control panel. By hitting enter you open up chat then do /gps. You can also add the name of the gps right after it if you need. You can’t recolor it so you’ll need to do that in the control panel but if you need to get your location down quickly in case you’re gonna crash and you want to recover the ship it’s a handy thing in a panic
HEY MAN! i loved loved this video so much and i'm excited to give this game a try! this is the first video of yours that i've come across but you certainly got a fan out of it!
Made it to the end, letting you know! LOL I don't have the patience for a game like this, but I am really glad I got to watch you play so I could see it in action!
Thanks so much for watching! One neat trick is you can always restore a back up after a big mistake if you want to. It wouldn't have been as fun to watch if I wasn't bobbing it up though so I just rolled with it.
Yeah! That’s the main reason I got the game long ago too. You can make everything you want and creative mode is a good way to do that. But survival of course too d:
Not only am I a Bob But I have been a Bob since 63 just thought thought I would put that out there lol I saw the whole video and I loved it. I loved the commentary and I REALLY hope you make more video's with Space Engineer's
So a couple tips: 1. The way to use miners on ships like how you use the drill on foot, when you press "g" to edit your tool bar there should be a tools tab, swap to that and drag the "drills" to your hot bar 2. The way to combat the thrusters working against you can be done by grouping your "reverse" thrusters, finding them in the Groups tab and setting a hot key to just turn them off while you are lifting off, or just disable inertia dampeners during liftoff process (a little more risky since this also disables left-right balancing, but honestly fine) 3. A super helpful ship design is a universal one where you can make the same model (with the tools cut off) save the ship design, then use a projector to mass build them using my next tip after that you can just tack on whatever tool you need for that vehicle (welders, Saws, or drills) 4. PRINTERS ARE AMAZING (this is using the "welder" tool block connected to your storage, put them on a piston and using a projector and turning on the welders you can mass produce ship designs 5. Get ship guns, the handheld stuff is just too risky with those ship guns shredding your poor little meatsuit, and the early guns get the job done and are pretty remarkably cheap (magnesium can be a pain for ammo but one good node can keep you rolling for a few encounters. 6. Dont be afraid of atmospheric rovers, give them some weak thrusters that stay predominately turned off for a jump boost over cliffs (REMEMBER BRAKING THRUSTERS THOUGH) these guys are much cheaper and with some clever designs can be great scouts, Transport vehicles, and if you start trying the new automation update stuff, can even serve as effectively connectors between bases (build a road though, the AI drivers are a little drunk) 7. Solar panels up high + rotors + AI core "follow sun" mode = Amazing power efficiency 8. Protect your batteries and connectors with at least light armor (definitely go heavy if combat is a possibility), they are super squishy and almost ALWAYS are the cause of rapid unscheduled disassembly. really hope we see a 200 days, Space Engineers is such a rewarding experience to learn and master, maybe if you want a bit more spice you could add a pve combat modpack once you get the base game mastered.
@@SurvivalBobGaming Slight Correction it's not the AI cores for the Solar Panels It's the Custom Turret Controller (im still learning this stuff as well XD)
Great video, and as the official Council of Space Engineers and servile devotees of the Great and Most Holy God Clang, we have unanimously decided to hereby bestow upon you the title of Space Engineer. Wear it with pride Engineer, but most importantly, never forget to sacrifice regularly to the One and Only god of the universe.
This was a ton of fun to watch. I made so many of the same mistakes starting out too! SE is a grand game, and tons of mods can add more content and depth to the game as well. From neutral corporations that spawn structures and ships for you to attack/raid - to things like Reavers from the Firefly universe. Bloodthirsty space cannibals that hunt you down with a passion. Amazing format for the video, loved the narrative "simulation' style. Would love to see a part 2!
As someone with 1K+ hours in SE, it was fun to watch this. Although, I did yell at you quite a few times... for example, there IS a contracts tab, you press ; to open it.
really refreshing short series introducing the game, i've never played but know a fair bit, seeing you forget things i often forget in similar games makes me feel a lot better about myself
I love the format you took with this video. I've been playing for a long time and so watching some players early gameplay can at times be a bit frustrating (wishing I could help them), but instead yours was funny and showed how your character's, er, character was developing throughout the video. I'm definitely going to check out your other SE videos. FYI, you can view contracts that you have signed up for by pressing the semicolon button (;) at any time.
GPS suggestions: Name ore by periodic table names to reduce HUD clutter. If you need to reduce clutter more but still need the locations, change the colors to black as needed. You can make quick GPS points using the chat menu instead of the K menu.
I crashed SO many starter ships/rovers and miners at the beginning that I rage quit several times. Watching Splitsie play just pissed me off more so it's been a joy watching your trials and tribulations. The dialogue, dancing, and oh shit moments had me grinning from ear to ear. You have a new subscriber!
Congrats for being the only legit 100 days of space engineers on youtube😊 Its so nice to more space engineers content as imo there is not much besides old playthroughs, Splitsie, and Captain Jack(whos content i dont care for to much roleplay)
Hats off for the dedication to go on like this. 2,5 years ago, my first/only vehicle tipped over and was badly damaged - so i did what any rational person would do, and immediately "rage quit" and never played the game again, LOL! I have at times been tempted to play it again though, so i guess its just a matter of time before i rinse and repeat #stupidmonkeybrain
Thanks! I’ve been binging the Expeditionary Force series for the last few weeks. So StupidMonkeyBrain is definitely on my mind. I am also No Patience Man. 😂
The best 2 S.E. videos ive seen in a while! I really really enjoyed it - a lot of content - super funny i laughed the entire video - the edit is great, u cut right to the fun parts - a lot of ships where lost & the bathroom is clean Bob's rating: 4.8*
This is a very good video. I'm not a fan of watching videos that are almost an hour long but this one definitely entertained me and i didnt regret watching it.
Loved this! Props, Bob! By the way. Put your ship drills, welders and grinders in your 1st slot on the bar to control them with the mouse buttons. Then with drills, you can left click to drill and collect, or right click to create the big holes.
As someone who made few but very major mistakes when I first started out, i.e. not putting enough stopping force into my first ship(which was 780,000kg empty that I named The Brick) which made my 10 hour work of art slam into the ground at terminal speed leaving behind only scrap, it's nice getting a perspective of how other people go about starting SE, and has helped inspire me into doing things different. I used to set up bases on an ice lake instead of near and then I'd have to haul many inventoried of rocks to said base-wasn't fun- but now I've finally decided to use that drill-arm setup that you used for mining. Anyways, rant over, and thank you for the video, I'm hoping for a part two where you try and bridge your way between planets
Mate I have never laughed so much Thank you Thankyou after a bad day I turn on UA-cam to watch some of my favorite games being played you're not too bad for a rookie I was even worse but then too be fair I have a few disadvantages than you 1/ I spent a total 9 years at a university studying the human body. 2/ I am an OLD man. 3 A critical Care paramedic can not be a space engineer but loves trying.
I have a few tips and an offer for you Tips: 1. put wheels on your ships along the bottom, they are better on suspension but are not required to be on, wheels will absorb most if not all of an impact 2. its better to turn off you reverse thrust then it is to turn on overrides 3. in all of my 3k hours of SE I can confirm that those who told you to turn off your thrusters when docking either don't know what their talking about, herd it from a friend, or over exadurate the benefit of turning them off, they don't burn power when locked to the ground or station and only really effect a ship moving it and turning off dampeners is better 4. when building hydrogen ships I suggest only combat ships have small hydrogen tanks while trying to have at least 1 large tank, otherwise its useless on utility and larger scale scout ships Offer: If you ever get interested in Multi Player, I have a faction on a server with a decent population and a pretty awesome community with an admin team that respond to tickets (problems) its a decently modded server with the most notable mods being upgradeable tech and better weapons. I doubt you would accept this offer since most people don't join until at least a couple 100hrs, however I'm not saying it would be a bad idea to join at even 10hrs since most people are willing to give as many pointers as wanted like me. the reason I would make a offer like this is because we need more people since you can never have too many people in space engineers and because I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to get more content creaters into the MP side of things. if your intrested then contact me ([EHM]_Masterchief#5321) on discord we are the Imperium of man on the nexus redux (introduction video): ua-cam.com/video/sulgLHVseY8/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for the tips and offer. My SE time is going to be limited for a bit so I’ll need to stick to single player. I do want to get into mp but it can make it harder on content so I need to find the right situation. I’ll definitely keep you in mind. Thanks again!
I've just come back to SE with my roommate, who's my partner in crime in most multiplayer games. Dedicated servers are still trash, but joining one another's game works pretty well. I really like to doing space start games but surface start games offer different obstacles that are fun to overcome, too. Looking forward to watching the next one.
My first vehicle (and miner) is a rover, a wheeled vehicle, i never did like flying things too much and i am grateful for having made a miner rover rather than a flying miner, more capacity, better handling, not risking a deadly crash for carrying too much stone and minerals, can be stronger without a hell ton of thrusters, that yes though, the drill is on a turret like thing in the front and on a piston, and it being a rover takes away some of the manoeuvrability that it would have if it were to fly, but i can just use the same techniques you would with an excavator to unflip yourself or get out of a hole for which your wheels alone are not enough. I tried making a small grid with hydrogen thrusters, after seeing how bad of a thing ships are not only for me but just in general i decided i'll first stick to my favourite thing (ground) and only once i am advanced enough i would start making flying things (the thing i do not like so much) For some reason that hydrogen ship ran out of hydrogen quick as fuck and generated it back up slow as fuck (eventhough i had a shitload of hydrogen tanks and generators)
Hello, Nice to see you in a new game - pretty cool! I look forward to more. You do these so well, and relatable, I could see me running into the same problems and the efforts to continue. See you again soon!
Don't worry about what resources your asteroid has as long as it has lots of ice. My first gas station was just rock and ice. You're going to build a base on there and set up 9 pistons, 3 for each axis, with a rotor at the end and 3 drills, all piped up to large cargo containers and a series of refineries. You'll have hundreds of thousands of iron in no time, enough to build everything else.
Hi again, Bob! Good to see you (back?) in Space Engineers. I'll give you a solid B+ as the mark for your Space Engineer exam 😉 You got airborne relatively quickly and did well getting to space and back the first time with so little hydrogen 👍 I liked your format, which highlighted the main challenges that most SE players run into, without trying to do a full tutorial. It is also a bit of a change of pace and style from your NMS videos, which I hope is refreshing for you as well :) -> One suggestion is to have a "day counter" on a corner of the screen somewhere, but I don't know if that ends up being more effort than it's worth in your editing/production. A few other themes that you could follow-on with might be: - Moon base with defences (assuming pirate encounters escalate) - Assault Freighter / Fighter ship(s) to actively defend mission cargo you're taking to the trade stations - Building a ship with a jump-drive, so you can get to those far-away trade stations more quickly, as well as enabling travel to other planets
Thanks! Great ideas! I considered the day counter but I felt it would cause more questions as I often skipped multiple days in the edit to keep it interesting.
Absolute love this game it's like Minecraft in space. Only discovered it this week and as someone who loves building i can see me playing it for thousands of hours. 🙏
Your adventure was awesome and hope to see more. It reminded me of my first time playing Space Engineers, I suck at the game too but this was fun to watch. Thank you for the show.
Hi Bob (callback to ‘For All Mankind’)! I enjoyed this video very much. I had already tried space engineers in beta, but it was too cumbersome for me at that point. This 100 day challenge reminded me of Astroneer, which I had dabbled in with some fun, and now I am downloading Space Engineer again to take another look 😂 Seriously looking forward to trying this challenge and finding my way back in there. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
Eeally good to see another clip from you SurvivalBob! I always loved the style of your clips for No Man's Sky and I loved this one just as much. Summer sale and Space Engineers is 50% off so I might even be tempted to grab it :D

For your drills you need to pick the drill option from the "tools" menu. That way itll be controlled by your mouse and left and right click will work as normal
Very entertaining, love the way you narrated the vid.
And as someone with almost 3k hours on SE, I felt every step, every happy little mistake and every shenanigan you went through.😂
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
200 DAYS LETS GOO
Seriously tho I laughed so much at this video. Was awesome and I watched the whole way through. If you did 200 days I'd click instantly
Thank you! I’m thinking about it.
I couldnt believe my eyes when i saw that video! Thank you for giving this awesome game attention, i really like your commentary and was able to follow along and feel with your ship crashes d:
Would love to see more.
Thank you! I’d love to do more. Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions for me.
@@SurvivalBobGaming The idea with the asteroid refuel Station is good, you could try that (never forget to pressurise rooms in space with air vents and always keep your eyes out for leaks.)
You could also make a stationary Space station between earth and moon to act as a dock for your ships and maybe even make a ship and repair yard with welders ;)
I have had space engineers in my steam account for years and never played it, this is the first video i have watched in all those years that has made me want to play it.
Wow! Thank you!
Awesome, loved it! I heard so many good things about Space Engineer but this is so far the only showcase that actually convinced me think about buying it. - I will when I have time to actually dig into it. It looks like something that eats through your whole day when you first start it haha.
Thanks! It definitely does. I hope you get a chance soon!
Thank you!
That pirate drone camping at you outside was hilarious, the way it's cute, hahahhaa
They seem to get me in trouble a lot. Thanks for watching!
I'm so happy you started with the prospector. It is by far the best early game ship to buy. With a separated jump module you can dock to it can basically do everything. Also kindve proves the viability of large ships to newer players.
Now this is the text book definition of making learning fun!
As someone who is getting SE soon I can confirm I have no idea what’s happening but I enjoy it
Let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Wow your in space engineers community your from no mans sky thank for the guides I did a funny and went through like 25 galaxy's over a loving ship cause I was told galaxy affects color even tho i learned it changes anyway based on galaxy was a joy ride lol
Xaine what are you doing here?
Hey, Bob! Glad to see you back man! Back up to classic Bob shenanigans!
Thanks bud! This one took a while to make, but it’s good to be back’
I hit him up asking where he's been and he told me editing. Lol
@@SurvivalBobGaming thanks for all of your hard work man!
Thanks man!
Watching this made me buy the game, but we NEED part 2
I can't wait for the mega-space drills, dreadnaughts and drone carriers in the next installments. As someone with over 1000 hours, this was a great journey that brought back many memories of anger, tears and joy during my own trials.
You can keep a track on what contracts you have running. By default, it is bound to the Colon key.
Thank you! I resorted to screenshots! 🤦🏻♂️
Omg! the mistakes, the crashes, doing everything the hard way! I remember it all! The flashbacks!
This game has a very steep learning curve, and I'd love to be able to experience it like a newbie again. Very fun video!
This is the space engineers content we need.
Totally agree!
Just as a tip, instead of full throttling in gravity you can turn off inertia dampening and just pulse your engines. Uses so much less fuel
Thanks! I did a follow up to this one and am working on a third.
nice i will look for them hope you get plenty veiws@@SurvivalBobGaming
200 days please
Fun to watch, felt the pain of your struggles. been there many times hehe good job!!!
Thanks!
Edit: Part 2 is out now!
ua-cam.com/video/3JNNVeMUbJo/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching and all the encouraging comments. I’m working on another Space Engineers video now. I’m starting a new save but I’ll be starting on the moon this time which is where I left off. Drop suggestions for mods or challenges here so I can keep track. Thanks!
YOOOO LETS GOOO, THIS VIDEO WAS FIRE
A mod suggestion is the modual encounters mod collection for space engineers it adds a bunch of AI factions hostile and neutral instead of just space pirates and trade stations. It is also highly configurable!
The build and repair system mod, it helps you build or grind grids, through nano bots, like it welds everything you place, but it takes parts from your container, or grinds down grids you paint in a special color.
Speed limit mods so you can go 200 with large grid and 250 with small grid
Also maybe start off with something, for example the ship you got at the end, so you can build your own large grid mega ships
This definitely needs a part 2, also for mining ships if you haven't figured it out yet, just hold the right mouse button to bore into a the voxels without collecting materials.
Need to select the Drill on the hotbar I think?
From the "Ship TOOL" section, not the commands you set for the controllable blocks
@@binford5000 I've always just held LMB for mining and RMB for boring. No hotbar actions required. However that's just me.
yay you finally got it done! so proud of you! haha
mistakes were made 3 minutes into the video lol
Of course! 😂
@@SurvivalBobGaming this game looks amazing. Now I see why it took forever to edit.
@@Spadez614 well…I also payed 20 hours past my 100 days because I couldn’t stop! I didn’t use any of that video either. 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
That’s awesome! I think I need an autopilot! Glad you enjoyed the video.
People don’t play this game enough. It may be (relatively speaking) a little old, but it’s very unique
Agreed 👍
This was fantastic, the universe isn't ready for the Bobinator
Lovin the chill, honest narration. Kudos and thanks for the video, subscription earned!
Thanks!
I had a lot of fun watching this, as it brought back many many memories of starting SE. I hope you'll continue onward along the journey :) For mining ships you build, you might consider using sorters and ejectors to pull stone out of your onboard cargo and push it out of the ship. It's nice for efficiency.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! I’ll definitely look at the sorters!
I JUST LOVE IT. This video contained all of my early game pains and was really fun to watch. Justlike Lukethenatable videos it's so immersive and engaging. I hope you'll keep making such content and I cant wait for the next part!!!
Hey thanks! That's high praise too! I hope to get more out soon. These do take a while to make though I do believe they are worth it.
@@SurvivalBobGaming they surely are
Definitely give this a part two. Some things you’ll probably want to know for part two that I noticed you struggled with in this:
-For controlling the drills you’ll want to go into the block tools tab on your G menu when setting up the cockpit bar actions and assigning that. It won’t pull up the list of actions like it would with the grouped drills. Doing this will allow you to control the drills like you would hand drills which means you can clear a lot of -stone quickly without taking up your inventory
-For mining ships its smart to have a stone sorting system to deal with excess stone so you have more cargo space for ore.
Thanks!
HEY MAN! i loved loved this video so much and i'm excited to give this game a try! this is the first video of yours that i've come across but you certainly got a fan out of it!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the game!
Happy to see it Bob! Years ago when I first followed you for no man’s sky I had 3k hours or so into SE. It’s cool to see you get into it.
Hey buddy! It’s definitely a lot of fun. Working on an Escape from Mars video now. It’s twice as long as this one though so taking a while longer. lol
Awesome Vid Bob! I will be watching that one again later!
Had a lot of Laugh out Loud moments.. You are my Favorite BOB! 😂
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it! It was so much fun to make. Glad you put this game back on my radar!
Bravo my friend. I had a great time watching you become a Space Engineer. Welcome to the club.
The fact that you can make your own vehicles is already everything i needed to know.
Yeah! That’s the main reason I got the game long ago too. You can make everything you want and creative mode is a good way to do that. But survival of course too d:
The gold ol' prospector. My favorite prebuilt ship.
Not only am I a Bob But I have been a Bob since 63 just thought thought I would put that out there lol I saw the whole video and I loved it. I loved the commentary and I REALLY hope you make more video's with Space Engineer's
Thanks Bob! I hope to make many more! Let me know if you have ideas for me.
I agree, I have over 4100 hours in Space Engineers and I found this video entertaining. It reminded me of when I first started playing. Good job
So a couple tips:
1. The way to use miners on ships like how you use the drill on foot, when you press "g" to edit your tool bar there should be a tools tab, swap to that and drag the "drills" to your hot bar
2. The way to combat the thrusters working against you can be done by grouping your "reverse" thrusters, finding them in the Groups tab and setting a hot key to just turn them off while you are lifting off, or just disable inertia dampeners during liftoff process (a little more risky since this also disables left-right balancing, but honestly fine)
3. A super helpful ship design is a universal one where you can make the same model (with the tools cut off) save the ship design, then use a projector to mass build them using my next tip after that you can just tack on whatever tool you need for that vehicle (welders, Saws, or drills)
4. PRINTERS ARE AMAZING (this is using the "welder" tool block connected to your storage, put them on a piston and using a projector and turning on the welders you can mass produce ship designs
5. Get ship guns, the handheld stuff is just too risky with those ship guns shredding your poor little meatsuit, and the early guns get the job done and are pretty remarkably cheap (magnesium can be a pain for ammo but one good node can keep you rolling for a few encounters.
6. Dont be afraid of atmospheric rovers, give them some weak thrusters that stay predominately turned off for a jump boost over cliffs (REMEMBER BRAKING THRUSTERS THOUGH) these guys are much cheaper and with some clever designs can be great scouts, Transport vehicles, and if you start trying the new automation update stuff, can even serve as effectively connectors between bases (build a road though, the AI drivers are a little drunk)
7. Solar panels up high + rotors + AI core "follow sun" mode = Amazing power efficiency
Thanks for the tips! I’ve got so much to learn!
@@SurvivalBobGaming Slight Correction it's not the AI cores for the Solar Panels It's the Custom Turret Controller
(im still learning this stuff as well XD)
Thanks! I’m working on the next one now!
@@SurvivalBobGaming that's great news! Subbing so I don't miss it!
As someone with 1K+ hours in SE, it was fun to watch this. Although, I did yell at you quite a few times... for example, there IS a contracts tab, you press ; to open it.
You were not alone. People all over the world yell at me through their screens. 😂 I have learned a ton from the comments though! Thanks!
Fun to watch, well narrated, well chosen music, yes that was very nicely made.
Thank you!
really refreshing short series introducing the game, i've never played but know a fair bit, seeing you forget things i often forget in similar games makes me feel a lot better about myself
GPS suggestions:
Name ore by periodic table names to reduce HUD clutter.

Hats off for the dedication to go on like this. 2,5 years ago, my first/only vehicle tipped over and was badly damaged - so i did what any rational person would do, and immediately "rage quit" and never played the game again, LOL! I have at times been tempted to play it again though, so i guess its just a matter of time before i rinse and repeat

This was such a great and entertaining watch! Thanks and please do more! I would love to see where you go from here.

This is a very good video. I'm not a fan of watching videos that are almost an hour long but this one definitely entertained me and i didnt regret watching it.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
Loved this! Props, Bob! By the way. Put your ship drills, welders and grinders in your 1st slot on the bar to control them with the mouse buttons. Then with drills, you can left click to drill and collect, or right click to create the big holes.
Thanks man! That drill thing was driving me nuts!
Thanks! Working on it now!
I’m so glad I could give give you a good laugh and brighten your day. That’s honestly the best compliment!
Well done! Entertaining so far, I'll have to finish it later, gotta get back to work!
Thanks man! This was fun to watch keep up the hard work.
Thank you! I will!
I have a few tips and an offer for you
Tips:
1. put wheels on your ships along the bottom, they are better on suspension but are not required to be on, wheels will absorb most if not all of an impact
2. its better to turn off you reverse thrust then it is to turn on overrides
3. in all of my 3k hours of SE I can confirm that those who told you to turn off your thrusters when docking either don't know what their talking about, herd it from a friend, or over exadurate the benefit of turning them off, they don't burn power when locked to the ground or station and only really effect a ship moving it and turning off dampeners is better
4. when building hydrogen ships I suggest only combat ships have small hydrogen tanks while trying to have at least 1 large tank, otherwise its useless on utility and larger scale scout ships
Offer:
If you ever get interested in Multi Player, I have a faction on a server with a decent population and a pretty awesome community with an admin team that respond to tickets (problems)
its a decently modded server with the most notable mods being upgradeable tech and better weapons. I doubt you would accept this offer since most people don't join until at least a couple 100hrs, however I'm not saying it would be a bad idea to join at even 10hrs since most people are willing to give as many pointers as wanted like me. the reason I would make a offer like this is because we need more people since you can never have too many people in space engineers and because I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to get more content creaters into the MP side of things.
if your intrested then contact me ([EHM]_Masterchief#5321) on discord
we are the Imperium of man on the nexus redux (introduction video): ua-cam.com/video/sulgLHVseY8/v-deo.html
Looking forward to watching the next one.
greatly enjoyed this video. reminded me of my first days of smacking into everything with my face and flipping ships. Great job!
Thanks!
plz we need a part 2. 200 days or hell even more, it was very entertaining to watch
Thanks
I tried making a small grid with hydrogen thrusters, after seeing how bad of a thing ships are not only for me but just in general i decided i'll first stick to my favourite thing (ground) and only once i am advanced enough i would start making flying things (the thing i do not like so much)
For some reason that hydrogen ship ran out of hydrogen quick as fuck and generated it back up slow as fuck (eventhough i had a shitload of hydrogen tanks and generators)
Hello, Nice to see you in a new game - pretty cool! I look forward to more. You do these so well, and relatable, I could see me running into the same problems and the efforts to continue.
See you again soon!

@@SurvivalBobGaming I will 100% be sure to watch!
Welcome to space engineers enjoy your stay and dont forget to make sacrifices to clang

Very underrated video, underrated game.
Hi again, Bob! Good to see you (back?) in Space Engineers. I'll give you a solid B+ as the mark for your Space Engineer exam 😉
You got airborne relatively quickly and did well getting to space and back the first time with so little hydrogen 👍
I liked your format, which highlighted the main challenges that most SE players run into, without trying to do a full tutorial. It is also a bit of a change of pace and style from your NMS videos, which I hope is refreshing for you as well :)
-> One suggestion is to have a "day counter" on a corner of the screen somewhere, but I don't know if that ends up being more effort than it's worth in your editing/production.
A few other themes that you could follow-on with might be:
- Moon base with defences (assuming pirate encounters escalate)
- Assault Freighter / Fighter ship(s) to actively defend mission cargo you're taking to the trade stations
- Building a ship with a jump-drive, so you can get to those far-away trade stations more quickly, as well as enabling travel to other planets
Thanks! Great ideas! I considered the day counter but I felt it would cause more questions as I often skipped multiple days in the edit to keep it interesting.
this.. is the most chaotic, bestest, vid of SE i've seen yet..and i've watch more than a few
love it
Thank you! 🙏
Super fun to watch!!
