I never comment but as stated, this was an invite only show from the Ten Club. I was 14, Cobain had just died and this was my first concert ever. And suddenly I find it on UA-cam. I'm blown away. I'm 37 and this is a time machine. Very Moving.

@EVILKIMMELSSP Band comes closer together besides the fact this was Dave A’s second to last show 😂 Little Eddie fired him for not being a depressed, whining activist.
Daves drumming on hold on is perhaps the best piece of drum work I've ever heard, I like matts personality better, but its ludicrous to compare the two as drummers, dave was unbelievable.
no he wasn't... why do you people say things like this? eddie vedder is talking about himself and how people perceived him as compared to how he felt and his own past struggles and who he really is....song is NOT about Kurt Cobain...
@@FulltimeDuddooScene The Ufo of Seattle are all linked deeply. The answers are fast to come in to the Ocean. You have to realise that in the lyrics, He is talking about a cigar box. I was here - caught all 3 shows. I was 22 and these 3 Boston shows were life changing for me. Curt Cobain had died this week and it was so heavy. This show still to this day is maybe my favorite ever been to 61 PJ shows.
This is the first time this song was ever played live. 7 months before Vitalogy was released. Eddie obviously did not have the lyrics finished yet so he was freestyling a bit. Can still hear parts that were put into the final version.
It boggles my mind that there is audio and visual from this concert that I went to 20 years ago. Gives me chills. I was in the last row of the balcony standing on milk crates to see them. Never forget it!
Andy Sharry what a great memory for you!! This music is still superb.....I wish I were there, Thankyou to whomever shared this video Love!!! The Energy and the Sound just gives me chills
OMG I was busy taking care of babies at the hospital at this time. Love the Orpheum if I only knew i would found coverage and hauled my a... to the show!!
I had no idea of this take on Immortality, and i really like it more than the official release. It's so dark, depressive (without being emo or such), it's like when you kind of give up caring about life itself (i went through that long ago), like you don't mind about anything else at all, but the present, the moment you are alive Today. I wonder if Eddie penned the lyrics influenced by the overall dark mood created by Kurt's passing, and how the whole thing around him was starting to crush his soul slowly. Quite interesting when you think about it 🍷🗿🚬
recorded this song in the studio, which is the version you hear on Vitalogy. This version has the lyrics coming from more of a first-person perspective, rather than a third-person perspective like the lyrics on the studio version of Immortality
I was at the show it was at the Boston Orpheum theater four nights after Cobain died. This was a fan club show tickets were by invite. They played a lot of bsides and covers. I also saw them the night before at the Boston Garden totally different short show more like a funeral for Kurt no one even thought they were going to come out. Both amazing shows.
Same. I don't think they suck now, I just think that the time period from 1993/1994- 2000 was when their best songs were written. They're getting older now, but there also much more mature. They're not the same 25 year olds anymore. This music was written because of their worries, insecurities, and opinions of that time. It's much different now. But yes I agree this music was more raw, true to themselves. Much more meaningful IMO. Plus I feel the instrumental parts very better then.
just discovered this new old pearl. I thought I listened to pretty much everything from them but I was wrong. Powerful, both in the rhythm and the lyrics... exactly as I like
Take me as is I don't need this I die just to live Immortality... I can't take a walk I won't fight this world I won't save it all It is not my fault Take me as is I don't need this I die just to live I won't stay long I'll be long gone I die just to live...
wow I haven't heard this version since I was about 11 years old... I had a bootleg mix cassette tape of this concert, shitty quality, muffled sound but man did I play the hell out of that tape and this song specifically. This is Pearl jam right here
The sound is so good because they used the official band recorded audio from they sound board (SBD). This concert was featured with they reissue of Vs and Vitalogy last year. That's where the audio came from.
Wow! Everytime I listen to the audio from this video it gives me goosebumps. It takes me to a special place, it has a sort of a healing groove and spirit to this song. Damn I'm only 13 so this was before I was even born, it kind of bugs the hell out of me that there's no way I could've been at this show to experience this performance live. Still great song, best version of it, most emotion. Great Upload. 10% of the views are probably from me lol
As great a it is overall, the SB audio is such a gift. In 94 recording devices didn’t have a mic capable of such beautiful audio. This is truly a gift. I love PJ to this day especially live but the final couple months of the Vs. tour is their crowning achievement. Played a lot of Vitalogy songs and most important the sweat covered beast in the back named Dave guided them. Dude listen…they’re so tight then.

Sad Dave Abbruzzese didn't continue on the PJ musical journey. That dude was amazing. Brought something special. One last time they should play together live.
I learned a former friend whom I have not seen for a long time had died some 8 years earlier now. Now I am feeling shocked. The sadness when Brooks Robinson passed was because of his quality as a human being, and in a time when Orioles ballplayers lived and worked among us.
Thank you for capturing the original lyrics.Kurt had just died at this point. I believe Eddy already had this written and later changed the lyrics after totally digesting the impact of the loss of Kurt.

Eddie Raia you are soooo lucky ! 🥰
Thats cool bro
This is one of if not their best show ever played. So a fantastic first show!
Wow, lucky you! I wish I was there, man. This show is quite something.
My friend and fellow drummer Dave Abbruzzese makes this show! Eddies in top form too. !
Lyrics (before Vitalogy album):
I could take the sun
I could call the couple anyone
I won't tell the comfort in the world
I can't take it off
I won't say "Enough, it's not my fault"
I won't care there's something in the way*
Take me as I am
I don't need this
I die just to live
Immortality
I could paint the moon
I could reflect light into a room
If I could (afford) the fortune of the glare*
I could paint it all
I won't say "Enough, it's not my fault"
I won't call the altar in the air
Take me as is
I don't need this
I die just to live
Immortality
I can't take a walk
I won't fight this world
I won't save it all
It is not my fault

Indeed
This is the best version of Immortality imo. Very dark, beautiful at the same time.
I LOVE Tremor Christ, that song is awesome!!
It's why I think the studio version is different. They could never do this again.
And I mean that as a positive. Something happens here that makes the band come closer.

shane armendinger no question. he was the best to drum in PJ’s career. It’s f’d he didn’t get inducted in hall of fame with them
Yea Dave is my fave PJ drummer as well. He wasn't a punk drummer but his drumming on Eddie's more punk songs like Whipping is epic.
I agree. One of not many drummers that you can identify just by hearing. That snare sound on this is incredible.
Hold on drums are dave krusen’s

Dave is a beast in the drums, but he also knows how to bring the right intensity and is fully demonstrated in this song. Big Abbruzzese!

Miss the organic and amazing drumming of Dave.
Dave was best drummer for Pearl Jam. Hey Dave! Rock on hard man 🤘🥁🤘DC
sounds right and good with dave abbruzzese
You will not find a beautiful raw version of this except here. When Pearl Jam was unique and hungry
Pj is still unique, and this song is everything but angry

Best version ever
I like these lyrics better than the ones on Vitalogy

These lyrics seem so much more personal. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've watched this video.

great version and drumming by Dave! This is an example of what seperates PJ from most bands. Cheers!
ikr... none of the bands have eddie vedder.. the main difference...
This is great job all round. Sound quality is right up there too.
Best live version of this song absolutely 🪄
amazing lyrics by far. amazing drumming by far.

What a sound , what a song
I never noticed until now how much the melody is similar to 'This One Goes Out To The One I Love' by REM. Actually, my girlfriend noticed...
It was really cool he sang these alternate lyrics at the Fenway show all these years later.
