Time and Space - Six days in the rugged and beautiful Ontario backcountry traveling by canoe.

- Scott and I head out for a solid six day late September stretch in the Algoma region.
We hit a mix of parkland and public land in this rugged loop.
Wild winds, misty mornings, fall colours and some clear starry nights.
This area has low levels of light pollution... great for astro types.
Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy.

From the intro sequence to the credits there were so many brilliant scenes but censoring Scott's arse with your own shit-eating grin was simply visionary. A signature Tumblehome move to complete another timeless paddle skedadle. You always bring the zen and this was a real treat to end the week
Hey John. I would love to see a Lost Lakes/Tumblehome team up. The comedy would be extra!
Thanks Jon. I'm always checking out your vids and coming away with different inspirations and insight.
This was magical!! Thank for taking us along….
I feel we're all grateful for the censorship decision taken here
"I dont feel more alive anywhere else like I do when I`m out here..." Truly spoken. Thank you for this beautiful video.
Thank you for watching 🙂
Jason, every time I watch any of your videos, they never justify the likes, views, or your subscribers count.
Your videos are on a different tier than any other channel out there.
I just wait for your videos.👌
Thank you for taking our along.
Thanks a lot. Glad you are enjoying the little films. Cheers!
THE BEST cinematography in the outdoor canoe 'adventure' genre on UA-cam that I've seen.. Every time. I've been meaning to watch this, your latest video since it came out.. You really set the mood. I absolutely love your videos.. Thanks for your continued time and effort you put into these, year after year.
Thanks a lot!... I appreciate your kind words.
There is such beauty out there in the early mornings as the mist & fog rise off the water & up through the tree's... just love it ❤😊
Indeed!
I am on my way to Temagami tomorrow to snowmobile and saw this ……I am saving it like a treasure to enjoy when I get back to the cabin. Can’t wait to settle in by the fire to watch this !🎉Cheers🇨🇦
By far my favourite outdoorsy channel.
Thank you very much!
The best backcountry canoe vids on UA-cam. Always a great night when you get to watch a Tumblehome adventure!
Thanks a lot!
Love this thank you so much Jason and Scott
Awesome, phenomenal as always! If there was an award for UA-cam outdoor films, you'd be racking them all up.
Many thanks!
Wonderfully captured and narrated. ART.
Thanks!
Awesome adventure. Outdone only by your photography. I couldn't stop watching.
Thank you.
Very beautiful nature, misty mornings especially are my cup of coffee. Your ability to catch the feel of nature at its best is very relaxing. Greetings from Slovakia.
Many thanks!
Another beautiful film...just stunning photography and narration. Really enjoyed this!
Many thanks!
Amazing video as usual Jason. That loop is no joke. The constant uphill portages keeps the body guessing. You had some pretty fantastic weather and a good pace to the trip. I'm sure youll remember it fondly. See you on the next one buddy. 👍
Thanks Adam. Your vid on this loop is excellent. I watched it a couple of times before we went... gave me a good idea of what to expect.
@@JasonIrwinTumblehome really appreciate that Jason.
A great paddle for sure, enjoyed
Another Beauty. That Credit sequence was just *chefs kiss*. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks!... shot that little smoke sequence on the R6 while testing out the 1080 120fps. Put it in reverse and boom... perfect for the credits :-)
Thumble thru Algoma Jason style!!
Another great vidieo. always a good watch way to go Jason ...next 😃
Thanks 👍
Best yet!!!
Beautifully presented and edited. Thank you for sharing Jason!

Glad you enjoyed it!
Always enjoy your awesome videos. Top notch! Thank you!
Thank you.
Ever transportive and touching work, Jason 😌 …I paddled the Flack-Ten Mile-Mace Loop a few years ago, and it stands as one of my favourites-I enjoyed revisiting the area through your lens 🍁🌲🪨💦🛶
Thanks!
Another great vid and trip. Love that area, it is a great disconnect. Thanks.
I like that... sort of sums it up. Tripping is a great disconnect.
Will be back April 1st. Can’t wait. Thanks for the cinematic adventure.
thank you... never been to Algoma in the spring but I can see it in my future :-)
Jason I always watch for your videos. Top notch for sure
Thank you!

Well done once again Jason! Great video work. Enjoyed following along! I look forward to the day when I can equip myself with the capabilities to capture the moments that you so effortlessly do in each of your vids. Awesome!
Thanks! Thank you for the kind words.
LOVE CANADA BROTHER. RICH country for sure!
Thank you!
Such a great video. Awesome stuff
Thanks a lot!
Hey TH! After a day at work and then a night at home dealing with our mentally ill daughter, i needed me some tumblehome with dinner! Thank you sir for this 50 minutes of peace and serenity. You take care.
NQU
Thank you. I glad you can find some solace here. All the best.
Beautiful trip jason thanks for taking us along
Thanks and no problem... love documenting the trips!
Nicely done Jason. This was just what I needed this time of year!
Thanks Larry. When the heck is your next vid coming out? I just checked and your last one is 2ys ago! 😁😁
@@JasonIrwinTumblehome yes life has just got in the way! We’re going to try and get out for sure this year together. I sent my brother the link to your video as I though this would be a great place to explore!
Another one from you would top it off nicely, love your work.
@@jamieporter6305 Thanks! working on a new one now 🙂
Really Beautiful work man, well done!
Thanks Maxim! I was watching one of your vids a while back and was struck by how serene and "slow burn" it was. Love it.
@@JasonIrwinTumblehome thanks Jason!
Thank you. I paddled this area twice. 1991 and 1992 and there are few changes. Tough going but we’ll worth the effort. I appreciate you videography and humor.
Thank you. This was my second time there as well... amazing and so much more to see. How did I not paddle here earlier?
This made my day. Thank you
No problem :-)
An unexpected gift of a new Tumblehome video on a damp snowy Friday evening…YES PLEASE!
😁
Getting me pumped for fall camping with this one. I gotta get out to that area, it’s been on my radar too long. Thanks for sharing, outstanding work as always.
Yeah I don't understand why it took me so long to get up there... barely scratched the surface! Glad you're digging the vids. thanks
Nice to see new content from you! Awesome trip and thanks for showing it for us! 👍
Thanks!
Nice trip. I really enjoyed the video. I’m glad I found your channel
Thank you! Glad you found it :-)
At 28:30 with the view, music, and quietness wow god I love your videos …… I’m a Temagami guy and when u reference the portage is Temagamish u r so right too
Thanks man! That was a sweet morning, particularly after those windy dark days.
I love that area of Algoma. I’ve been several times in the past couple years and I keep wanting to go back. Thanks for another awesome video.
Thanks Tosh... such a nice area to paddle!
Truly about the most artistic versions of Backcountry. You really should be doing some bits for tourism Ontario/Canada. You gotta get wet and save that expensive canoe though :) Ty for another show.
Ha ha... we joke about it all the time. I've got bad circulation / cold feet all the time... wet just makes it worse. Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
A relaxing Saturday morning indoors on the couch. No wind or cold, but getting a piece of that Tumblehome backcountry experience with a warm coffee in my hand is one of my favorite things. Yet another gem, my friend!
THanks Mark!
Ended up getting the 'white ' treatment on the bottom of our Keewadin...in some ways I'm sorry I did. I'm envious of the travel 'scars' yours shows. I believe it adds to the story. Either way it's a fine thing to be out there no matter how you look at it. Please never stop being Tumblehome.😎
Will do!... some of the scars on my boat may need some TLC soon.
Another fantastic trip. Thanks for bringing us along with once again.
my pleasure.. Thanks
Epic introduction
🙂
Amazing content. The scene of the stars and you guys at the fire pit was incredible, brilliant editing.
Thanks so much. I'm glad you enjoy the edit. That little spot was amazing for star gazing and photos for sure. Crown land too!
Fantastic!
thanks!
Gorgeous video. I'm glad to have it while I wait for spring to come around. Heading to Algonquin for a few nights in mid-May, can't wait.
Thank you
Another masterpiece Jason. The quality of your videos is second to none.
Mighty praise! Thanks.
I smashed that thing !😉👍 I've been wondering when your next video would come out....its been some time 🙃 Thank you for it...look forward to watching it 🍻
Thanks 😁
Jason. I watch/rewatch at least a few minutes of your videos every night- especially "60 Minutes of Pure Paddling". But you have the best videos for us Canoeheads out there. I was pissed the other day listening to a BuffaloRoamer Podcast interviewing the guy from Canoehounds. He was asked which of the other UA-camrs do you follow. He responded with several others including Ray Goodwin whom I like for paddling instruction, but didnt mention you. I hadnt heard of Canoehounds so later I looked him up and watched a few of his UA-cams- no biggy. You are absolutely the best. No one has technically the photography or video clarity comparable to you nor your positive attitude and sense of humor that you do. Your introduction to "Time and Space"is comparable to a PBS or National Geographic nature documentary. The "60 Minutes of Pure Paddling" 1&2 are mesmerizing. I wish you the best. Are we camping yet?/ Glenn
Thanks Glenn! There are so many good channels out there now I have a hard time keeping up :-)
Not to me. I'm awaiting your next video.
Hi, I love your videos and cinematography. I just moved up tp Elliot Lake so I found this very interesting. I will be getting to know Flack lake et a al. soon 👍
Cool! I've only scratched the surface myself.
Good to see another video. As always, enjoyed the scenery and quality of the shots.
Thanks!
Well I guess it’s time to get out the old canoe and burn some calories. Thanks for the push to get paddling. And killer job on this. Along with all your other vids. Pretty damn impressive.
Thank you!
Thanks for another enjoyable trip. Keep taking them, and we'll keep watching.
thanks!
I love fall camping, and filming in the fall. I can take the rain and cold temperatures but I can't stand the wind. It makes filming so much more difficult! Sorry about your GoPro screen. I use the DJI action cams and I'm surprised I haven't cracked one yet...yet! Thanks for the video.
Thank you! I'm sizing up the Go Pro competition these days... some good alternatives now.
Thanks for another awesome video! Your photographic skills are greatly appreciated! Nice to see a canoe that is used and has the scars to prove it ! 😀
thanks!... the honey moon is over with that glassy carbon finish 🙂
Thank you!... the honey moon is over with the glossy carbon finish 🙂
You are a magician with your cameras. Love the video, thanks for sharing it.
Thanks so much!
Thanks Jay!
Just discovered your channel, actually from another comment made on a similar video. Loved the content, edit, V/O work, etc. And some amazing astral time-lapses. Keep up the good work, I've Subbed+All and will make sure that I watch all your content from now on!
Awesome! thanks for the kind words. I don't post a tonne of vids but I try to get 2 or 3 out each year... glad to have you aboard. 🍻
tis a good day when Tumblehome and Sugar shack allow us into their world even with the butt/face 🤣🤣🤣 also nice to see your toques still living on in the new Baird's (of the 'so many Bairds') video !! Pretty cool man
Yeah I was laughing while editing the butt face. Yes the hats!... living on in a few YT'ers vids. I'm expecting a few more to come in soon/different supplier... had some sizing issues and still seeing who makes the nicest hat. Not sure where the whole Tumble Touque thing is going but we'll see.
@@JasonIrwinTumblehome I'd buy a Tumble Touque just to say I had a a Tumble Touque hahahaha!!! freakin genius!!
Always well shot. Still loving that Swift. I pulled the trigger on a Prospector last spring.
I often wish that was the route I went... but still loving the Kee!
Based on 'useable' water we have the most freshwater lakes and rivers in the World...Love it
Enjoyed the video; it’s ok you didn’t video everything, keeps some of the intrigue for the next trip. Thanks to the both of you, good partnership.
Thanks!
the stoke !
Thanks guys. Very nicely done. Hate to say it but I was getting tired of winter camping videos. Wayne
:-) Thats the best thing about my slow trip to video process
A strange this happened this week. The UA-cam app I watch thru AppleTV made me sign in thru my phone. I don’t know if this triggered mega ads but I feel like every 3 or 4 min I was having to skip an ad. I’m not knocking! I have just never noticed this before.
Of course I love the content and the personality your videos entail. I just couldn’t get over how many there were and was wondering if it was new for UA-cam or you have to drop them in
Thank you for commenting, always wondering how many ads people have to see now. UA-cam did recently add in extra adds on its own schedule. I do monetize my vids so yes I put ads in but I only allowed 4 for this vid... I try to not have more than one every 15 mins or so and I keep them skippable. I wonder if other folks are having the same thing happen?. The ads on YT are getting be like TV in the 90's
I paddle that area last summer also grew up in that area never found about the canoe routes until much later. I’m curious that on what lake you staid on the night before Sam Reid....I’m assuming Hypen but I don’t recall seeing such a site on that lake. Keep up the fantastic work...your videos are spectacular.
thankyou, that lake was Callinan which is sort of connected to Hyphen there. My map shows two sites close to each other but we only found this one
Love the night sky time lapses I would like to capture the same this summer can you say if it’s all off a mounted camera? Also during the beautiful lapse of the morning fog and dew lifting what is the purpose of what to me looks like a bag held under the camera?
Yes the time lapses are all done on a tripod... all the ones in this vid are done with the Canon R6 + 16mm lens. The Go pro will do them nicely too. The little bag was a pocket hand warmer... helps keep away the dew lens fog problem
27.40 priceless
Beauty morning!
Awesome, as ever. Yer quality was a little off compared to previous years. That odd "blurry" thing that seems to come with a youtube upload that doesn't exist in the original. Not sure what does that? Mine does the same.
Thanks! I haven't had that issue yet while checking it on my TV but I sure know what you're talking about. It's hit and miss I find. Sometimes going into the playback settings and switching back and forth a bit (720, 1080, 4k) will sort of snap it back... but not always. I usually chock it up to YT throttling based on heavy use?
@@JasonIrwinTumblehome Honestly not sure what it is. I don't seem to get it on a vimeo upload but I stopped using that platform because you get very little space before you have to pay. Anyway, thanks for the reply and please keep the videos coming. You are a master of the art!
Jason what's the route? Is there a route map anywhere? Lookes awesome.
Hi there, i didn't put a route map in this time.... route was Flack / Astonish / Ezma / Ten Mile / Hyphen / Dollyberry / Bobowash / Sam Ried / Flack
I hate to ask but what kind of a pot did you bring to boil water with? That campsite with the multi tiers is a dream site! Cheers.
I bought it at MEC many years ago... two pot set. I'm not sure what brand though and I can't see any markings on the pot :-( It's a pretty common (and good) pot though so I imagine you could track it down... MEC doesn't seem to carry them anymore. 🍻
@@JasonIrwinTumblehome Thank you for the response. I thought it was an MSR possibly but I found an old picture showing it was indeed a MEC branded pot.
THAT Is quite some video intro.
:-)
I’ve literally watched hundreds of canoeing videos and that by far is the biggest pack I’ve ever seen… ouch…
He he... it was around 60 lbs!
28:25 I don't need no stinking shorts, today I will go about my business in my LJ's. Then start adding "in my LJ's" to the end of Jason's first three sentences at 29:50.
he he
Can't turn down a paddle skedadle video. The epoxy whisperer is full of one liners.
Indeed!
