Walking In The Clouds - Adventure in Algoma Country

  • A four day backcountry canoe trip in and around Mississagi P.P. We hit a mix of park land and crown land, ultimately hiking up and spending our last night on top of Old Baldy. Rugged portages, pretty lakes, unexpected solitude, magic misty mornings and stunning starry nights during the new moon. I see now why people refer to this as one of Ontarios best kept canoe camping secrets!
    Enjoy, and please pass a link along to anyone whom you think may also appreciate it!
    Special thanks to Jordan Walmsely for the map, Douglas Coomer for his article "Go With The Flow" as seen in Silent Sports Magazine.
    And a most special thanks to my wife and kids for allowing me the time away to do these soul restoring trips into nature.

    Another masterful offering, Jason! Your photography and filmmaking is always superb, and I love the region you two chose to explore - I’ve been exploring the Mississagi region in recent years, and it is magnificent! I paddled this route in 2020 and loved every second. Great stuff!

    Outstanding work! I just love the creative transitions, the intermingled images and the stunning time lapses. The area itself is new to me. Looks like it has a lot going for it, low traffic, interesting scenery and plenty of variety. Towards the end you comment on, effectively, the privilege we have of enjoying the immensity and grandeur of such places. That is feeling I often experience as well on backcountry trips. We are incredibly lucky! Works such as this are a great reminder that we can’t taken such places for granted: we need to protect them! Cheers Jason! (Ron).

Top tip for ya. 50 year old knees don’t like hills and big packs. Get some telescopic walking poles. Can use to prop your tarp up, go pro mount and your knees will thank you! I speak from experience! That was the perfect escape on a dreary dark and wet Sat night in England my friend, a lovely trip and outstanding cinematography - the time-lapses were amazing. Can I ask ya a few questions on your gear? Was the audio you recorded out in the boats and when you were hiking straight off the GoPro? If so that's very sharp and smooth indeed. The resolution is also extremely good watching on YT. I've said this before, but I struggle with getting the same res when I upload footage to YT from GoPro cams mixed with Canon DSLRs. This is spot on. Maybe it's my editing software? I use FCPX, I think you're a Premier man, am I right? Anyhow, greetings from England, UK.

    • @JasonIrwinTumblehome
      @JasonIrwinTumblehome  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Andy! Great to see you're still watching. A few folks have mentioned that the quality was good / better this time. I have no clue why really. Using a Hero 8 + the new R6 (which does have a nice image)
      I always pick the latest UA-cam 1080 setting in Media Encoder but then go in and make sure / edit the bit rate to al minimum 30 mpbs. I can't truly say it makes a difference but I did read somewhere once that it helps. I also had this vid loaded up for at least two days prior to release. (always figured it takes a while to fully ripen in the upload process, despite it saying its HD ready to go). Yes, using Premiere. I use the audio from the Go Pro but massage it a fair bit... Premiere has some nice easy access audio filters... usually peel off the low end and clean it up a bit. I do also take a fair bit of time to grade the footage and smooth out some shots (my buddy has a Hero 4 / no stabilization). I'm stoked to hear you say its looking good on YT cuz I'm always second guessing everything and thinking its sub par :-)
