WOW!!!! This is incredible. It looked like a heck of a lot of work but it was so worth it! Very clever techniques. Thank you so much sharing this and for participating in the challenge. 👏👏👏👏

Watching the work being done and the choice of tools might give the impression you do not know what you're doing, but in reality this is the work of an inspired, creative and talented artist who knows her tools. The final simple beautiful bowl do not render justice because ignorantly one might say 'That's easy to do on a lathe!' True. But doing it without a lathe. That's a different story. You're a true artist.
@@3x3CustomTamar That is the way it should be.One considers themself a painter,a sculptor,a pianist,a craftsman. The title of artist is to be bestowed by others onto your work or talent,I agree with DMZ.
I remember watching this when it first came out, I thought that is an awesome bowl. I just watched it again, "reruns", that is an awesome bowl. I truly love how you over come set backs in your projects, very inspiring. Keep up the wonderful videos,
I know poplar is not considered a premium species of wood, but the color of that bowl turned out great, in my opinion. And of course, great job doing so much without a lathe!
Oh, don't get me wrong -- I really, really like the bowl! It turned out great! But I also like how you improvised and came up with a way to create the jigs that you used.
Beautiful! Really well thought out construction and I love your creativity with the jigs. Also really admire that you are not afraid to highlight what you see as mistakes, we all make them and if we share them it helps us all to grow. 👍🏻
Sheer genius! I like the way you thought out the jigs and met each challenge in uncharted territory! I hope you are able to have a lathe and you deserve be able to have any tool you desire - as your work will inspire many, many people.
You are welcome, I made myself a rudimentary lathe years ago with a washing machine motor and adapted items of discarded industrial machinery. The problem was getting a set of reliable speeds but the challenges were fun. I wonder if you have a scrapyard where you are that takes in commercial obsoletes or maybe an ex-forces supply yard. You certainly have the imagination to see where a piece of equipment can be adapted. I bet these days there are even You Tube films showing how to do it! The internet was not around when I made mine!!! :) The following may at least inspire you;- ua-cam.com/video/XCt3LooUVsQ/v-deo.html
This was an amazing exercise in demonstrating that the correct tool for the job can reduce time and effort by an enormous amount!!!!! I think you came up with some great solutions to the "Bowl Without a Lathe Challenge" and made a bowl that is indistinguishable from one that is purely lathe made!!! Great video!
Tamar i think the bowl looks amazing you are really quickly building up a arsenal of knowledge mainly by just not being afraid to fail and i think that just proves how great of a maker you are becoming, please keep being fearless of failure all masters of their craft whether it be food or basket weaving have failed many more times than succeeding,so really they failed their way to success, thanks for sharing your hard work with us,all the best to you and your family
That was clever. I have to admit, I would have never thought of that. A tip: when you glue up two pieces of wood like that sprinkle a pinch of salt over the area, it provides grit to keep the blanks from slipping and melts away when the glue dries. Makes it easier to keep everything aligned.
I have no clue why you would ever do this(besides just proving that you can), but this is one of the most intense pieces of woodworking I have ever seen. I am really impressed by the ingenuity of your various jigs.
Clever as hell! I really like the tablesaw trick for the outside shape. You could even make the outside more of a curve by changing the tilt of the blade each time you move the bowl on the jig.
I recently saw a video where a guy made a bowl on a table saw, using a jig that arced the piece over the top of the blade. He went back and forth until the inside was done and then used a different jig to do the outside. I cant find the video to share with you, but you get the idea. You did a great job. You're very talented.
An absolutely ingenious process. RagandboneBrown is already on my subscription list, and now so are you. It's lovely to see women with workshop skills... Keep up the good work, ma'am.
I'm jealous. I have all the tools because I lack the ingenuity and creativeness to do things without. This turned out awesome and I still can't get over how perfect it looks, all without a lathe.
Very clever stuff. I think we're all going to really know why lathes are a good idea but that was the challenge and you did it with an excellent result.
the extent of my woodworking is a building of one set of cornhole boards. that's it. but i still, on occasion, watch a woodworking video and fantasize about doing something else. that said, this is def one of the better woodworking videos i've seen. great narration, great editing, great anticipation of audience. couldn't be more pleasant.

Morning coffee with Tamar!....Go-Fund-Me for a lath!...this video concept was so helpful...I need to make a curved dish with 15ft radius for glue up of a ukulele back and braces...curved sled for the router & spin the MDF...Love your channel!
The result is wonderful, the process however convoluted, shows remarkable flying by the seat of your pants to overcome tool limitations. This project will also instill a sense of priority in the way you start to tackle each one,a lot of time can be saved when there is an orderly plan of action.Planing the boards first, then cutting into 4 identical squares and making sure the glue-up was aligned would have saved a few steps.Maybe you can make another sled for the blade set at 45,would much rather see that, rather than twirling the bowl with the blade fully extended at 45,super-scary!All in all, never cease to amaze.
Aww yes, you are once again reminding me how nice poplar can look!! I’ve only ever used it for painted projects. Hmmm... what should I make?? Maybe something that’s round and can hold stuff?? Nice job!

I’m 75 years old and work with wood for a long time,I admire your skill and spirit. You go girl
Very creative! Yes, I agree, it looks like it was made on a lathe. I love your persistence and creativity in adapting the tools you have.
Thanks! I don’t know if it’s persistence or craziness. Haha!
Just watched every bowl without a lathe video I could find on youtube and your bowl is by far the best.
Ha! Awesome
The beauty of poplar is highly underrated. This turned out great!
Agreed! Thanks!!
That's the most turned on a lathe 'no lathe' bowl so far. It's gorgeous:-) You are the router jig queen :-)
Thanks so much! I don’t know about that though....
Nailed it! I’m a woman learning woodworking and I’m glad I found your channel!
Awesome. I hope there are going to be more of us!
That was very smart and clever what you did with the table saw using the angle like that to shape the bowl.
Thanks! It was a bit scary. But it worked!

I think the poplar worked really well for this project because the dark/light contrast makes it really unique. Nicely done!
Thanks!
Impressive work! You show that if you have skill and creativity, you don't have to have every expensive tool in order to get great results.
Thanks! I’m happy you got the point! Ha!

You really dug in deep and "turned" out a great bowl! You're jigs worked fantastically well! Thanks for the video!

Tremendous effort with great results. I would have been nervous cutting that angle on the table saw too! Great job.
Thanks! Yeh. My husband was watching as I was doing that cut. The look of terror on his face was priceless.

Hahaa! Quite the conundrum! It was both lots of work and super satisfying
