@@veronicaperez3555 you're very welcome! I know it can be very difficult to figure out what is easily replaced vs what will have more of an impact, especially when you're not already familiar with the ingredients! Just a heads up about dark soy sauce: it's quite a bit different from "regular" or light soy sauce. I really like it, but a friend of mine thought it tasted like dirt 🤦 I strongly prefer the Lee Kum Kee brand dark soy sauce, but obviously availability will vary a lot. I'd recommend getting the smallest size bottle you can at first, and don't give up if you don't like it, just try a different brand (I can't stand some brands, but I know some people don't notice a difference at all and think I'm crazy for thinking I have a preference 😅). Cooking is all about experimentation, and you can always adapt different techniques to use with ingredients you already have or prefer.
Hi Kylie, I had to go back and tell you thank you. I tried this today for my husband and he loved it! I added veggies we both love and it's just a savory and healthy meal. I watch your vids because we really wanted our foods to be healthy but enjoyable and bc I have chronic IBS like u 😂
This meal is not that healthy and could make your IBS worse with all the inflammatory starch. The veg is fine but you should avoid the rice and it could stop the bowels from cramping up after digesting
At the height of what i thought was post partum depression i would use my rice pot with a steamer basket every single day. It was seriously the most effective tool for keeping me sane. I got a single fresh hot meal made which is far more comfortong than people realize they even needed. the rest of the time i lived on oatmeal, bananas, and snack bars and half eaten pb&js from my toddlers leftovers. The power of a simple effective tool that saves you time and energy is so undershared. My husbad was rarely home as he worked full time and was a student full time but he would shop for things i could just dump and go(pre chopped frozen veggies for the win)with that rice cooker and made sure it got washed every night for me if I hadn't gotten it done yet. Love this video so much!
Pre chopped frozen veggies are my favorite hack. I grab them so much more frequently because it feels way less stressful to me because it's not nearly as taxing to prepare. And then I don't have compounded shame for letting fresh veggies go bad because I didn't get to it. If you don't already use them regularly, it's a game changer. Beets and broccoli are my two favorite to get. I don't get leafy greens this way, I don't like them frozen.
@@Miriam-ui5pw you can find them at thrift stores all the time now because instant pots have the rice cooker feature on them. So if you want to score a good deal, check there first! If you are overwhelmed with stuff and looking to minimize kitchen tools, then just get the instant pot instead.
I struggle with cooking some days, which is strange because it used to be my favourite hobby… Anyway, another easy 1 dish meal is noodles (rice or ramen) and broth (I often just use bouillon powder and water) with veggies and proteins on top, cover and microwave. Sometimes I’ll throw in soy sauce and ginger or whatever is easy to grab and looks yummy. It’s adaptable to whatever you have on hand and can be quite healthy. My son seems to think it’s like a fancy restaurant meal too 😂
Thank you Kylie!!!!! Since I saw your video on "adding nutrition to the food you love instead of cutting it", my relationship with food has been way healthier and more intuitive! I feel like this rule not only applies to food but all areas of our lives! Thank youuuuu!!!!
I have been telling people new to cooking about this for ever! These were my go-to meals in high school and college, and I made it simple with slivered ginger, thinly sliced garlic, cubed chicken and some soy sauce, sesame oil, and a pinch of chicken bouillon or Dasida in the cooking water. Set it and forget it, and a full meal is ready in a half hour. Lots of scallions on top and another drizzle of sesame oil, a sprinkling of salt and sesame seed and it’s the best comfort meal ever.
This is how I survived college 😊 a favorite of mine is to add mushrooms, bamboo shoots and oyster sauce. I'd add whatever greens I have on hand and it's a great warming comfort dish that's easy to make and doesn't take your constant supervision. I'm chronically ill, chronically in pain and have the energy level of a rock. So any easy meal that doesn't take full on cooking is a winner!
WAIT!!!! THIS IS A GAME CHANGER! I HAVE TO TRY THIS!!! I have a rice cooker, but I only use it for rice, and I make this EXACT type of meal, but just cook the tofu and veggies on the stove separately! Wow, this is going to save me so much more time when I cook especially on evenings I get home from work!!!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!!!!!!
My favorite meal to make like this is white or brown rice with kielbasa (I like the turkey one), carrots, daikon, and green onion (usually use this for flavor only & discard at the end). There's enough salt in the kielbasa & flavor in it and the veggies that I don't need to add anything else.
You’re an amazing creator i’ve been struggling with food so long. You make me feel informed and unashamed to eat and enjoy food well also considering my health. Thank you so much, you’re really helping people like me
Sincerely, thank you for posting your success and mentioning that you used chicken, because I'm not a big fan of tofu and was wondering myself... now I'm not afraid to try it ^_^
Sorry if this is a sikky quuestion, but did you have to cook the chicken before or is it safe to put it in the rice cooker raw? i'm worried about it not getting cooked enough
@@aprettygothichick I added it raw buti sliced it almost as thinly as I could so maybe less than 1cm? It was fully cooked through. Even if it was a bit thicker as long as it is spread out I would imagine it would still cook in the time the rice cooker takes. With the model I have it is on cook mode for about 20 minutes and then says to leave it for about that time again with the lid on to make use of the steam.
Lentils can be cooked with rice in the cooker as well! 🙌 These things are so helpful for those of us with chronic illness and extreme fatigue and our numbers are growing thanks to a certain v-1rus. Meal prep alone can take us out for the entire day. Game changer. 😊👍
I look forward to your videos because my 22 year old son has ADHD and I always worry when he on his own. He forgets to eat properly and then he just gives up and eats junk. You show him ways that are easy. Like the one with salad all chopped together.
This is absolutely brilliant! This is a chinese version but i can definitely do a turkish version or even a japanese version or Indonesia or indian version of it.
I am a student and I do this all the time. Save lots of time cooking = not ordering delivery often = save money. For my “sauce” I like to use those Japanese curry cubes. Some days I like it plain then I just don’t put any sauce.
Aww Kylie, thank you for mentioning the elderly. My dad isn’t able to cook anymore and he definitely feels forgotten and unseen. I’m gunna show him this 😊
i used to make rice cooker meal like this back in college. if you're living alone, have small appetite or easily bored eating the same things more than once, mini rice cooker will be your savior. some multipurpose sauce/spice from supermarket can also be helpful if you're not use to measure your sauce
This is genius, I've been wanting to explore with different liquids in the rice cooker but I've never even thought of putting other things in there to cook as well! Thank you!
My family does this on vacations! We pack a small rice cooker and rice and then buy basic groceries from the grocery store, so we can have (cheap) home-cooked meals from our hotel even without a stove

Im a new mom with limited motivation and some days ita hard to just make sure my babies basic needs are met let alone cook or clean, im at home untill my mental health improves and im very lucky that my husband can support us even if its paycheck to paycheck some weeks. He is overweight and has several health conditions that are getting worse, we dint have the ability to cook and calorie count his meals when most days freezer pizza, chips and nuggets or oven meatballs max effort food either of us can do. I reach out to my family and friends group for advice, i planed on re budgeting and getting him on light and easy for 3 months so his meals and all the mental work, meal prep, and physical labour that goes in to making them would be taken care of my someone else. Instead of advice on how to maximize what i had to make it happen i got batch cook recipes and meal kit recommendation so i can do the work i cant do myself, and why aren't i grateful for the mounting of fried rice my MIL tried of offload on us that would clog up our freezer and i would have to eat as punishment everyday since food in the freezer is food my husband forgets exists.. Im so tired
Miss, I just wanted to say I hope you have easier days ahead and can find energy to make some healthy meals for your family :) Being a new mom is extremely hard, but you’re doing it! Congratulations! Wishing you strength, sleep, and delicious meals!
Frozen vegetables! They're cheap, they're easy to cook and you don't need to prep them since they're already pre-cut and packed. Although I'm not a parent, I know the struggle of being exhausted and unable to cook any food, and just reaching for the frozen pizza or ordering unhealthy takeout. Since discovering frozen veggies I've been able to make healthy meals more consistently. Most of the time I just put them on a sheet pan, drizzle some oil and seasoning on them and put them in the oven to roast for like half an hour while I do other things or just take a nap. If I'm feeling energetic that day, I might even cut up some potatoes and add them to the veggies, and fry up some meat on the side. Other times I just toss everything in the oven (for example potatoes, veggies, chicken thighs) and let it do its thing. I hope you're doing better now! Wishing you and your family well and rooting for your success with eating healthy! 💖
I love one pot rice! It got me through university when I was living, studying, and working away from my family home. I was even more lazy and used frozen veggies and chicken. I would fill the pot and go have a shower, come back to a warm cooked meal, which I could eat while watching my lecture and tutorial videos.
I do a one pot rice cooker meal of cooked ground beef, frozen spinach and wild rice. Season with anything. You can get fancy or just put in a couple of Goya seasoning packets. I cook up extra ground beef earlier in the week when I’m making tacos or something.
I love that her realistic easy meals are actually realistic. So many creators share recipes that claim only takes 30 min but its 30 min if youre proficient at cooking, which most people are not. So most people, it takes like an hour.
I knew a college kid from Hong Kong who made all his meals in a rice cooker. He also had this little metal table to put inside the rice cooker, so he could steam a bowl of minced meat just over the rice.
This is literally what i do working 7 days a week! I have two jobs, no days off, and no emergy for food. I dont even do sauce; i just need it to be food 😹
❤ i always choose soft fruit and veggies (which is pretty limiting its true) or for things like carrots I'll actually boil them first until they're soft enough to chop up :) Sending you a big hug!.
I'm physically disabled and allergic to soy among many other foods. Rice is a safe food and this gives me wonderful ideas! Thank you so much for making your videos, I love to see them.
I used to make something similar to this for lunch in my college dorm. I’d add tofu or precooked chicken and frozen broccoli to my rice cooker, cook it all up, and then top with peanut sauce.
I love that she just has a very basic rice cooker here. I always see these sorts of recipes in super fancy rice cookers, so I guess I just assumed that's what you needed for this. But now I'm gonna try this in my basic cooker

To the innocent people and kids: She said "hit up your mom" but mic cut off because its bad, so, the full sentence was "hit up your mom because we are really good friends and help her with house chores"
A little vinegar and sesame oil go a long way! Spicy nori wrap-snacks for bite sized nori addition (my preference is the spicy kind), works with canned veggies also and using packet protein (like tuna packets that are flavored or chicken too) can be added at the very end and let sit 5-10mins to warm the protein (those packets I'm referring to are precooked) and those come out amazingly.
Thank you so much, Kylie ! Someone gave me a rice cooker for Hanakkah and I've really enjoyed it. Did not even occur to me, to get creative with it.
@@FaerieDust awesome thanks again. I’ll let you know how it goes 🙂
As a disabled person this is a life saver thank you!!
you are healing people. i hope you know that.

Not really a healthy meal.
@@ArohaStill It’s rice and veggies, with some tofu for protein. What’s unhealthy about it?
How in the world is this not healthy? @@ArohaStill
We eat this with chicken breast and liver alongside more veggies. Eating veggies is no longer a chore mygod ❤😂
This meal is not that healthy and could make your IBS worse with all the inflammatory starch. The veg is fine but you should avoid the rice and it could stop the bowels from cramping up after digesting
@@ShippostFlagno offense but I’m gonna trust a nutritionist over a random comment…
@@laurenh1662 oh so you will trust me as I am a nutritionist
bro she has the most accessible, easy to follow ideas im so glad i found her😭💞
At the height of what i thought was post partum depression i would use my rice pot with a steamer basket every single day.
Thanks for the knowledge. I hate cooking and have mental illness. This makes a healthier meal so much easier.
@@jnlong1 Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna get myself a rice cooker and add frozen veggies.
@@Miriam-ui5pw you can find them at thrift stores all the time now because instant pots have the rice cooker feature on them. So if you want to score a good deal, check there first! If you are overwhelmed with stuff and looking to minimize kitchen tools, then just get the instant pot instead.
@Miriam-ui5pw can use a pot on stove just make sure its large enough
I struggle with cooking some days, which is strange because it used to be my favourite hobby…
Anyway, another easy 1 dish meal is noodles (rice or ramen) and broth (I often just use bouillon powder and water) with veggies and proteins on top, cover and microwave.
Energy level of a rock. Lol.
Bamboo is a great add!! Thanks for the suggestion.
i once lived in a hotel room for 3 weeks & just had a rice cooker & a mini fridge. learned so many creative recipes (many without even rice)
I do rice cooker meals with frozen vegetables (cause I'm in a dorm and don't have room for fresh vegetables) and it works amazingly!
More rice cooker meals please! 😹😹
My favorite meal to make like this is white or brown rice with kielbasa (I like the turkey one), carrots, daikon, and green onion (usually use this for flavor only & discard at the end). There's enough salt in the kielbasa & flavor in it and the veggies that I don't need to add anything else.
you've actually got really good tips! I love to finally see a dietician who doesn't encourage malnutrition and in fact acknowledges individual needs
BONUS TIP! Once it’s done, crack an egg on top and cook for another 5 minutes! More protein and you get crispy bottom rice!
Or just let heat of the food cook it a bit, like Korean bibimbap.
You’re an amazing creator i’ve been struggling with food so long. You make me feel informed and unashamed to eat and enjoy food well also considering my health. Thank you so much, you’re really helping people like me
This is legit my go to method for food. Including breakfast: I make my chia and oat porridge in the rice cooker.
Just made this and it is incredible, used carrots and curly kale and chicken because that was what I had to hand. Thank you!
@@aprettygothichick cut your meat extra thin so then it has time to cook
How cooked were your carrots, were they soft or did they still have a bit of a crunch to them?
This channel feels so safe 🥹
Not for your mom (sorry I just had to xD)
Lentils can be cooked with rice in the cooker as well! 🙌 These things are so helpful for those of us with chronic illness and extreme fatigue and our numbers are growing thanks to a certain v-1rus. Meal prep alone can take us out for the entire day. Game changer. 😊👍
Sauté onions, do it all
Quinoa has good protein, get bags of stirfry veggies, italian blend, southwest blend.... super easy
Check out tips on you tube
These meals are legitimately life-changing. Thank you, Kylie. ❤
I look forward to your videos because my 22 year old son has ADHD and I always worry when he on his own. He forgets to eat properly and then he just gives up and eats junk. You show him ways that are easy. Like the one with salad all chopped together.
I have ADHD and the chopper was a game changer for me!! I’m glad your son is loving it❤️
This is absolutely brilliant!
I saw this 2 days ago and I have been making them for all my meals. Great way to use up these veges. So useful and quick. Thanks Kylie!
Girl, i hope you are doing ok. Because.
That your mum joke was so unexpected😭
Thank you for your video about veggie choppers for adhd/ stressed brains (a while back). I bought one (and btw everyone, they’re pretty cheap, i got one for about £12.99) and it’s changed my life!! I’ve prepped soo many more lunches for Uni now and even use it to chop the boring veg for dinner (like when you just need to have diced onion , asap) ❤😂
Just made this but with mushrooms, cabbage and carrots... So good! Also fried some spam as a side... I need to stock up on tofu..
everyone‘s talking about the „your mom“ joke but I just heard „you could just rot in bed or hit up your mom“ as in.. just calling your mom in a wholesome way 🥲
That's what I heard, too.
Yeah that's what I thought it was too!
Lmao "hit up your mom" literally killed me
Can someone explain why that’s funny?

OMG this a life saver. Im in a house that is so hot and has high humidity where cooking makes the house unbearable to live doing this will hopefully solve my problem. Thanks Maam
Omg! If I can do more than one thumbs up I would! I have like no kitchen space or where to cook and I would love more recipes like this! I am a diabetic and I do love steamed rice but need ideas to add veggies in my life. 👍🏻👏🏻Thank you!!!!
As a university student, this is a total life saver. Thank you, Kylie. Could you please do more one pot recipes, please?
I really appreciate your guilt trip free advice. Everyone else just tells me im doing things wrong or not trying hard enough.
@@anemptyspacecooking frozen vegetables in the oven is a game changer. Really really makes eating healthy so much more do able.
@@michellefitz4287 absolutely! Frozen vegetables for the win!

I love one pot rice!
It got me through university when I was living, studying, and working away from my family home.
I was even more lazy and used frozen veggies and chicken.
I would fill the pot and go have a shower, come back to a warm cooked meal, which I could eat while watching my lecture and tutorial videos.
I would love to see a whole cookbook of rice cooker meals!
I love that you included the elderly! ❤
Don't eat it out of the pot with a metal spoon. You'll scratch the material.
Ok….THIS was the comment I was looking for!
Or... You can take care not to scratch and behave like a civilized being instead a savage
@@adventureexe6032 Come now, eating out of the pot is already pretty uncivilized. 😂
IF you’re using a stainless one. The regular ones are ok.
I came to the comments to look for this comment! 😂
When I make rice, I Also add zucchini, a little finely chopped carrots and cabbage, celery, and veg broth❤
Every part of this spoke to my soul! Thank you for this!!
I do a one pot rice cooker meal of cooked ground beef, frozen spinach and wild rice. Season with anything. You can get fancy or just put in a couple of Goya seasoning packets. I cook up extra ground beef earlier in the week when I’m making tacos or something.
“hit up ur mo-“ the perfect cutoff 😂😂
I love that her realistic easy meals are actually realistic. So many creators share recipes that claim only takes 30 min but its 30 min if youre proficient at cooking, which most people are not. So most people, it takes like an hour.
I knew a college kid from Hong Kong who made all his meals in a rice cooker. He also had this little metal table to put inside the rice cooker, so he could steam a bowl of minced meat just over the rice.
Thank youu literally the dishwashing is the worst most hellish part of cooking
This is literally what i do working 7 days a week! I have two jobs, no days off, and no emergy for food. I dont even do sauce; i just need it to be food 😹
I need a hair tutorial because your hair is always slayed ❤
Rice cooker congee kept me alive in college
And it's the one button on/off rice cooker not one of the ones with 20 different settings

or if you like your rice plain just pour your sauce after the rice and veggies done!
Please! More!!! I’ve been struggling with cooking and making anything besides oatmeal. Please make more of these rice cook meals 🙏
I love rice cooker meals because of mobility/ pain issues, stirring a pot or standing and chopping is too painful on flare up days
❤ i always choose soft fruit and veggies (which is pretty limiting its true) or for things like carrots I'll actually boil them first until they're soft enough to chop up :)
Sending you a big hug!.

Kylie once again you are my hero
I'm physically disabled and allergic to soy among many other foods. Rice is a safe food and this gives me wonderful ideas!
Thank you so much for making your videos, I love to see them.
I do this once a week at least and have for years. Frozen veg makes it even easier 😂
I do this as a student, so convenient and still fulfilling ❤
I used to make something similar to this for lunch in my college dorm. I’d add tofu or precooked chicken and frozen broccoli to my rice cooker, cook it all up, and then top with peanut sauce.
I love that she just has a very basic rice cooker here. I always see these sorts of recipes in super fancy rice cookers, so I guess I just assumed that's what you needed for this. But now I'm gonna try this in my basic cooker
That ending cracked me up. Perfect.
Also, totally going to try this! I feel like I've been knocking myself out each time I cook, so this is perfect.
Also, that sweater looks amazing on you!
To the innocent people and kids:

unrelated but your hair looks GORGEOUS
A little vinegar and sesame oil go a long way! Spicy nori wrap-snacks for bite sized nori addition (my preference is the spicy kind), works with canned veggies also and using packet protein (like tuna packets that are flavored or chicken too) can be added at the very end and let sit 5-10mins to warm the protein (those packets I'm referring to are precooked) and those come out amazingly.
THISSS THISS IS THE REASON WHY I LOVE MY RICE COOKERR!!!!😭😭😭😭😭
Thank you so much, Kylie ! Someone gave me a rice cooker for Hanakkah and I've really enjoyed it. Did not even occur to me, to get creative with it. I love these recipes because you can change our ingredients to whatever you like. There's no ingredient that is completely 100% necessary to the meal (possibly other than the rice lmfao) which makes it really accessible to everyone!
This !! I recommended this method to everyone in college, literally chuck any canned/fresh/frozen veggies you have into rice then top with whatever protein
