It's great to see someone whom you thought was a "one hit wonder" only to find out they choreographed for Elvis, was in a movie with him, Peter Fonda and others while continuing to dance still in your seventies! Wow, I'm so blown away by her talent and joie d'vive! Amazing!!!!

She became intrigued by an already established black cultural dance art form know as Campbell Locking created by yes a black man named Don Campbell. After she learned from him and other locking pioneers, she used her established professional reputation as a choreographer to help open doors for the group. She became a member of the group that was re-named "The Lockers". Don't give others credit for the black culture created!
I remember this number from an 80's dance-documentary series that the BBC broadcast in UK which she fronted and performed. Following the success of "Micky". Toni was very popular for a while in UK and did a few shows over here. We remember with fondness. She was good talking to camera, and her acceptance and promotion of new and youthful dance styles always did her much credit.... showing her legendary ability to stay fresh and young in herself. Lets see, 16 years ago,, she would have been around 51 years of age. Amazing ability that seems to get better with age! This seems to be one of her best videos. Dancing of everyone is superb and choreography is definitely first cabin, a truly outstanding artist.
Wonderful, I have been dancing around the room watching and listening to this. First time I have seen this clip. Loved the 1980s TV dance music series she made in UK. Remember her with great fondness and admiration for her skills and invention, not just her dance and obvious good looks. and this is after exhausting myself dancing on the beach around midday today, but then I had a siesta and am chirpy and ready to dance some more.

All searches come up with "Street Beat," which is a track off her 1983 album. This sounds like the late 80s to me, but Toni only had two studio albums to my knowledge; last one being that 1983 album. What is the story behind this song? Was it ever released onto some format? I would love to own a vinyl copy (or a digital copy). Does anyone know?? Any help appreciated!
Impressive! Toni Basil is a lot more talented than I previously gave her credit for based on "Mickey". Admittedly, I loved the song Mickey as it was extremely catchy, but I I didn't think the video was that slick and the dancing/cheerleading that special. I really liked both this song and this video. She can really move. Thanks for sharing.

Toni was absolutely and still is one of the Best Choreographed Dancer Ever!! From her early days of being one of the founder's of the Locker's Toni has made her way into pop-locking hip-hop R&B!! She's truly a Dance 💃 Icon and has never really been giving her Flowers 💐!! I certainly hope she gets them as our dance society would not be much without her legacies!! Much Love Toni 💌💗💓

She must have had some integrity or something that pissed someone off to not become famous at that time. Or hey, maybe I’m wrong and she rejected fame. Either way, she’s a blessing to our world.
There is no woman and perhaps only a few men that can out step her.. and she outlived a lot of the original members of the Lockers.. Her diet and discipline and not doing knee drops may have contributed to her longevity..lol..But God bless her and all fly steppers of the world!

Keep in mind that she was born in 1943 and this was kind of her 4th different career in dance related entertaining. She was supposed to be background, young girl eye candy in 1964 movies like "Viva Las Vegas" and "Pajama Party" and then retire from her dancing career by 1970 when she was getting to old to be a young girl and her 1960s go go style of dancing had gone completely out of style. Maybe the post office will eventually find that 50 year old memo mailed out around 1970 telling her she is now too old and yesterday's news and it's now time to retire, because she has obviously never gotten it.
