Thank you thank you thank you for adding this video. I've been trying to tell younger friends about the lockers i saw on TV when I was a kid, and they just don't understand. They see to think all todays crews invented everything and I am trying to tell them how so much technique is evolving for a long time. This makes you think about how inventive people were during other past years. From the heart
@vidform The song is called "Coke" by Tribe. It was an underground hit that came out in 1973 and was a staple of New York parties at The Loft and Paradise Garage. The record label had issues with the name so alternate pressings were out with the title as "Koke" and "Smoke."
It could be argued that Locking is not 100% part of Hip Hop, Since Hip hop consists of 4 pillars, DJ, MC, Graffiti and BBoying. Locking is classed as a Funkstyle,(as is Popping) and was adopted into the Hip Hop culture, but not actually Hip Hop.
Damn did you see how young they looked? Rerun and shabadoo still had baby faces. Thanks, I've never seen this clip. Do you know where it was taken? Looks like a college.
It can also be argued that each of the pillars you speak of were themselves separate entities not associated with each other in the earliest days of their existence. DJ Kool Herc didn't MC until after he was spinning records for a while, DJ Hollywood started rapping later independently, Fab 5ive Freddy was tagging way before he hooked up with any scene... all these things gravitated towards each other through out the 70's to create the Hip Hop culture as a whole (including Campbellocking...)
Does anyone have a clip of the lockers on the Phil Donahue show? It was great because a decent chicago group of breakers were on there like it was this new thing, then they brought out the lockers and it was obvious some funky moves had been around a long long time. Oh yeah, someone mentioned "Ozone" from "breakin", he was good, and again, got attention many before him should have gotten...
How can you not call this H|P HOP?? WE were doing this when the were breaking in NY. I am an old school la hip hop head, we were not rapping, but we were hip hop
@hbbvivo some people like Scoo B Doo would probably define campbellocking as just the upper body movements: points, wrist rolls, lock, up-lock, etc. while locking introduced the steps: scoobot, skeeter rabbit, which-a-way, leo walk
this song is koke pt.1&2 by Tribe. Its hard to get,if anyone knows were i can get this i would appreciate it.have only been able to get a weak 2min version the whole song is a little over 5min
@johnnyjayramone Please let me know if you find it huh? UA-cam is great but still a lot out there I can't find. Going to look on Hulu or something with old tv next...
Hahaha, the funniest part was the reaction shot where they pan the lame audience - they're all like: "this isn't wholesome enough for me, what if the communists saw this?"
Damn!!! I cannot find a real APPLEJACK anywhere!!! The ones that I keep finding are too small. If someone knows where to get one, let me know.... anyway, check my locking vids
