And some companies are really smart about this because they will do a HUGE content creator sponsor campaign where it genuinely becomes difficult to NOT find a sponsored video. Its so tiring watching 99% of content creators being paid to make a “sponsored review” where they have a big check list of things they have to say they love and they can’t speak negatively about the game. It’s not a review, it’s an ad and only an ad. AFKJourney did this and now SoC is doing this.
The sweep function doesn’t necessarily need a currency to do it. You can use your characters to sweep, and the characters get put on a 3 hour cooldown. They’ll need to match the requirements to sweep, but they’ll automatically beat the level and enter a cooldown state. The currency lets you bypass that and immediately gain the rewards without using characters. Hope that makes sense
Nice review! A couple of observations though: 1) Yes, there is a weapon gacha, but every weapon on it is farmable as f2p. And they are not hard to acquire. There is no reason to EVER pull on the weapon gacha unless you are a MASSIVE whale and you want an early account boost. 2) There is no need need to summon dupes either, since they are farmable. (It takes 3 months to max 3 characters.) 3) Rerolling for 1 or 2 fetured characters of your choice is pretty easy. (It takes about 10 minutes per reroll, and you can delete guest accounts.) 4) This review is seriously underestimating lower rarity units... It's true that Legendary characters are able to power through content more easily, as long as they are level apropropriate. But a lot of the lower rarity characters have unique kits that enable players to clear content several levels above their own, such as debuffs and crowd control abilities, or self buffs that allow them to evade single target attacks (completely negating skills that would otherwise one-shot you) or gain a massive defense boost. Also, a lot of the stages are filled with enviromental hazards and incentivise you to make full use of their surroundings when fighting stronger enemies, rather than just pulling a high rarity character. Lower rarity units aren't just useful in the early to mid game - when you are fighting at a high level deficit, some of them are more effective than Legendary characters if you use them right, and they are able to clear all PvE content. Btw, personally, I don't really mind having generic classes available as playable characters, since this is a staple of TRPGs. (Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea, and Unicorn Overlord all do that.) But I agree that the lack of voice acting for lower rarity units feels a bit jarring. 5) Regarding the sweep mechanic... It isn't actually limited by a specific currency, and you can easily burn all your stamina on sweaps after you reach a certain point. But the way it works is a bit weird. You can choose between using a "sweap ticket", or sending a certain number of characters on a 3 hours "dispatch mission". (You can still use these characters for all other content in the game normally) This means that, technically, you can't use this function infinitely, but... The game gives you so much exp and character ascencion materials that you will rarely have a shortage of characters available for stage sweaps.
so like reading your point about lower rarity its seem like its more of arknights route where lower rarity is still viable, have niche, while definitely having lower stats and capability they did not get completely useless?
@@frido7939 Yeah, that's it. Well, some of the lower rarity units fill specific niches better than any Legendary, making them a vital piece for some strategies. (So I wouldn't say they "definitly have a lower capabiliy") But otherwise, this is a very accurate description. The comparison to Arknights is very fitting.
100% agree with what you said and your review on the pinpoints he talked. He didn't play enough to do a first impressions review when even bigger youtube channels who do game reviews play 40+ hours on the game. I already played 40+ hours of the game, I'm platinum in PVP despite the fact that the only thing that I bought on the cash shop was the battle pass and the daily 80 Luxite for the pulls plus the initial 300 luxite that comes with it and what I gotta say is that the lower rarity units are cracked... They literally put a lot of debuffs and have a lot of base talents plus skills that can help your team A LOT. I was lucky and got Gloria, Col, Beryl and Lilywill and I gotta say that I can't clear harder content like the weapon daily farm on some high stages even after 40+h and had to use epic plus normal and rare rarity to beat some stages and still stuck on some like a lot of whales that are still stuck. My only critic to the game right now is the fact that the weapon dust to level up weapons is hard to come by. The daily farm with extra reward gives you very little so it makes very hard to power up armors and weapons.
@@mariana.rafael.alegria Yeah, true. At least we got a lot of dust through the new event, As for lower rarity charatcters, I can see where his confusion comes from. Most of the time, when lower rarity units look like "generic" enemies and don't even get mentioned by tier lists, it's because they are not worth the trouble. It is a bit weird that this happened to SoC considered how craked low rarity units can be, but... It looks like they will become less relevant once we reach max level, so maybe that's why. After all, what makes some low rarity units feel cracked is their ability to clear difficult content through the use of crowd control abilities and exploiting the enemy AI. But once you are strong enough, it's usually quicker to steamroll the enemies with "meta" characters. I definitly think they deserve more credit than this reviews gives them, though.
Also, to add to your point, if you max bond lower rarity units, you get to give them a name (whichever you like, you literally type it and that's what the name will display moving forward).
This game is amazing becuase the lower rarity chars can be some of the strongest in the game once you understand the game mechanics. BTW all the non SSR chars can be named by players once you max your bond with them. A really neat thing.
@@michealgironimo603 there's a bond menu and you can feed them to your characters there. each bond charm is like 200k bond exp or something! +1% for each bond level and you can name the unnamed chars at level 5!
I'd just like to point out that when you max the bond out for an SR or below character, you can actually give them a name. And in Spiral of Destinies, all units have names and you can even recruit Legendary rarity units at the tavern! Also, the weapon banner is a total skip for now because you can farm for legendary weapons once you progress enough.
@@michealgironimo603 Using characters in battle will raise their bond xp, and you can get an item called the "Bond Charm" that raises it as well. Bond charms can be bought from the reputation section in the shop.
Actually, some low rarity units are crucial to clearing higher level content and actually prefered over five stars. This includes even common characters I think this game is better than others in incorporating non five star units.
There's a lot of videos of people clearing the hardest content (tower) with just the low rarity units. You actually NEED them since some of their kits are so good compared to any 5 star counterpart.
Few things to point out, there is NO NEED to spend any currency on the weapon gacha because eventually, you will unlock stages that let you grind the weapons for free. The sweep function does not need its own currency but you can use it. Usually, to sweep, you'll need x amount of characters at x level which is easy enough to achieve. The currency just lets you bypass the needed characters for the sweep.
4:20 Arguably the Spiral of Destiny is the actual main story. The game *starts* in the spiral of destiny mode (the whole prison escape chapter and the time-travel"redo" can be found in the spiral of destiny chapters map) it's just that the game force you to play the first chapter of the fool's journey in beetween those two chapters. 7:40 All the weapons in the weapon gacha can be dropped in game (and it's not that hard actually), the current weapon gacha is just a bad investment. 8:10 The skip is always avaible on a timer (related to every character you send on that skip mission), the currency you are speaking of (that from the look of the first story event rewards seems pretty plentiful) just ignore that timer. 10:50 Lower rarity units are definitely able to perform in endgame content. They lack in raw stats, but have unique kits that can be a game changer in an environmental heavy game, like this one. Mad respect for the Papal Ice Mage and the Recruited Assassin. 11:15 Those are the "Hanged Man", the Kingdom's secret police/enforcers. Their outfits are made to be secretive for obvious reasons. They also have an interesting unique gameplay (special team mechanics unique to them). I'd say this is proof enough that there is actual commitment even on non-max rarity units. 13:35 About the music: The OST is composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto, a fairly famous name. He was chosen obviously because of his past works on the Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre saga and the Final Fantasy Tactics games, that Sword of Convallaria is heavily inspired by. As such SoC soundtrack is composed to sound like those of TO and FFT. For fans of those series the OST is definitely a crowd pleaser.
You know what I like about this game? EVERY CHARACTER, even the common ones, ARE USABLE AND CAN CARRY YOU THROUGHOUT THE GAME. I'm looking at you Papal Ice Priest and Recruited Assassin. So you don't have to worry about pulling Legendary characters to progress.
@@alsparkproductions7849People have beaten the game on the TW/CN (Taiwan/Chinese) servers, which went up about a year ago, with only rare and common characters. However by the time you do reach the late game you will undoubtedly have some legendaries at your disposal. Hell even at the mid game which you reach around level 30, you’ll have some. So there’s no need to worry. Also, most if not all characters whether they are common or legendary are meta in PVE. It will just be easier to stat-check if you have a bunch of legendaries (in the early game.)
@@alsparkproductions7849 I've heard that some higher tier late game stuff the enemies can get far too tanky. The strategy of using ice tiles + knockback to launch enemies off into the void also requires lots of practice and time. So, I guess it can depend on how much time you can spend. xD
Correction on sweeping. You have the option to send Cahracter on "Expeditions" in order to sweep so having a lot of characters built is valuable in this game
Right now the people climbing the endgame are doing it using lower rarity units, this game really rewards investing in lower rarities to abuse their unique kits, this can be kind of gimmicky but it does encourage hard to invest in these units. From what I readthis changes later on when your stats starts to properly outclass the enemies but at least for now we depend on creative thinking and lower rarity units to climb the endgame tower. What is true is that there is a major lack of information for global players, its been so hard to gather info on what people consider good lol And yea the 180 pity is awful, Im really liking the game but Im scared for its schedule
Coming from me who play it since it came out and on the discord for the game So far it's a good game for an gacha, it's one of the only gacha I play excluded Limbus company, and I really love it Do hope it gets popular because it different kind of gacha compared to the mainstream gacha that we usually see like Zzz and others I'm happy for your review and congratulations on your first sponsor dude 🤝
the best thing about the meta is that higher numbers isn't necessarily better, everything has a niche or situation where they're preferred over SSR units. also they have a full fledged premium single player mode that comes for free with the f2p gacha mode, and it's where the main meat of the game is
To clarify, you can pretty easily get legendary weapons from story/pvp/free battle pass, and the character selector can also be obtained for free, thought it will take a really long time. You also didn't mention pvp and guilds altogether. Otherwise a great video that details everything there is major to say about the game. Great work!
honestly I went in without any expectation and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. especially after the shitshow that is WOTV... unfortunately, the accelerated banner irked me, especially since dev promise that we'll get more to compensate the faster release but so far I haven't seen a lot of it EDIT: 1. you made several mistakes there, skill that's not being picked can be unlocked using Castalia, a limited resources than you can get from clearing chapters or events 2. weapon and trinkets can be farmed, there's a stage for it, but yes the weapon banner is a whale bait. I've heard that OG server almost implement a character specific weapons for it's gacha but I can't find any info about it. 3. you can sweep using characters, but they're required to be leveled up to the stages levels and then they're put into cooldown for at least 3 hours which means the amount of sweep without using the canned octopus is time limited (it's kinda dumb TBH) 4. The Legendary or SSR's pity which is 100 pulls works on all banner, but the guaranteed one (180 pulls) between debut (new character) and destiny (2 SSR rate up) are not since they're technically different banner. 5. you can name your lower rarity characters, but they're locked behind bond lv5 6. there's a SSR selector that is accesible for F2p, but it's locked behind gacha dupes currency
1. He did say you can unlock the other side with a rare item (castalia) 2. agree 3. agree 4. agree 5. about generic name it is done the same as old SRPG games which is why they name them so generic with the last bond giving you a change to rename them. in the Spiral of Destiny the mercenaries you recruit all have names and not generic. 6. you are not getting that until maybe 1-2 year imo
I didn't know you could rename them lol that's so cool, thought they only get a name in spiral of destinies, and about event there should the first big one in some hours and more to come, plus knowing what's going to come in advance it's easier to choose right and not pull in every banner
Just jump back into WOTV again after half a year or so, just want to progress the story, the amount of farming is just too much imo, I can only comfortably build my unit to 120 and reincarnation system starts giving me a hard time until Im too bz with my study to even log in. Missed out on FF7AC collab but it is what it is Try out SoC and it is fun imo even tho the localization isnt its strong point, due to this I jump back into WOTV to get the fantasy story that I longed for, continuing on after Oberon gone mad lol.
Add some mistake that other didn't mention 1. Lower rarity unit is actually very good all PVE stage can be cleared without legendary and most niche trait that might help clearing stage easier is with lower rarity unit 2. All legendary weapon can be farmed, While trinket couldn't (but it will appear often as event and first clear rewards) Thats why weapon gacha is whale bait 3. Skin gacha is using FREE currency. so you don't have to buy it if you sacrifice some gacha rolls and the value actually wasn't that bad as you got some trinket, which is non-farmable and Castalia for open up more skill tree
I'm currently playing it and this game it's made for me, I also want to say something, the sweep option doesn't require the can tuna to complete, that's just to recover your units quickly, after 3 hours those units will be available again, thanks to that i can do my daily missions in 5 to 10 minutes, also for a Strategy RPG a kin to FF tactics, the length of battles is pretty standard if not shorter
I agree, I joined Union route and beat up, didn't like the story of that route much and didn't touch any more story for a week. Now I joined Papal States and almost 30 weeks, love it because so far it's away from the other route in term of politic, but it's different enough to enjoy. Oh and the use of auto battle along with backtrack help a lot in faster combat.
@@johnwong5317 yea finally,a gacha rpg gaem whose actually have rpg tier of story.prob from all gacha games i seen so far, only soc that has typical rpg games "multiple route and endings" mechanic
Some low rarity (common/rare) character are even better than Legendary character! The "recruited assassin" have a hook skill that can make you cheese certain level And "outlaw bowman" have broken debuff skill that make him commonly use on the endgame gameplay "Papal ice priest" is a good aoe + slow debuff on enemy ,you can kite any enemy melee unit with him forever
I don't know if someone already said it, but you don't actually need the currency to sweep. You can do it using your leveled characters, but they can't be used again for 3 hours.
Sword of convallaria is a game that scratches a particular itch and scratches it well. And is does so wearing its influences on the sleeve unapologeticly. If you miss final fantasy tactics or tactics ogre the gameplay is there, simplified though. The story is not quite there yet (where I am at right now) and some characters are to close to some anime tropes, but they get less shallow once you play spiral of destinies. The first few hours hold your hand while introducing you to the different systems, but that happens less while you're progressing. Oh, if you log in after the second stamina recharge you'll get both. So you only need to log in once if you do it between that time and reset. Try it seems about right. You got a sponsor on this video, the channel is getting bigger. Congrats.
I love your channel. For a lot of UA-camrs, they are tied to a specific game or mode of content, but I find that your main appeal is your presentation rather than the content you present.
You are actually the first youtuber that i've seen that goes this much into detail to review games like background of the company and monetization, and i like that very much.
One thing to note, since this review is only 10 hours in: The Events tend to be extremely narrow in gameplay (to the point you may even need a Video Guide to complete early stages) Additionally, while individual 'Keys of Destiny' can offer you hours of content (that's not a joke, the campaign is looong) Free Keys have an expiration date, meaning the game expects you to play a certain amount of the campaign every two weeks or waste resources. Finally, the campaign's freedom from your account progression is a double-edged sword. While you as a player don't need a max-level account to complete the campaign, the campaign also does not care about *your* account investment, save your actual units. I often find myself wanting to use the "March Command" tactic which increases unit movement speed... but I do not have it on the campaign so I'm SOL.
really happy to see how well the channel is doing and growing lately, always thought this channel was really underated, keep the good stuff coming! as long as it's fun for you ofc!
couple of things to note, non legendary units are very good, sometimes mandatory for end game content, also sweep is not locked by a currency, very easy to sweep without the currency, also nobody summons on weapon banners as you can just farm them very easily
I love this more chill vibe for a review. Some content creator in the gacha community are too “hyped up(?)” or too focused on drama and fan service elements. I appreciate the more objective and chilled out style you bring without it feeling boring. A perfect balance.
I've been playing since launch, and I'm enjoying the game. I've only spent $5 for the monthly pass, which gives you pull currency every day you log in. This is the best value in the game if you want to collect currency to pull characters. And, since the game has been out for one year already in Taiwan, we already know the top meta characters, so I have been skipping the banners. I started the game by rerolling, which the game makes very easy to do by having a guest account on mobile. By rerolling, I started with Gloria and Beryl. Then, i got very lucky and got Col off the beginner banner. So, my account is basically set for a while. If you're starting off now, Edda is a good magic support, but nowhere as good of an all-around support as Gloria. And, Nungal and Garcia are not as good as Beryl and Col. However, as others have mentioned, some epic and lower rarity characters have very useful kits that F2P players are using to clear the hardest content in the game, so you don't need to have the most meta characters to play the game. And Edda, Nungal, and Garcia are still legendary characters, which means their stats will be higher, and they will scale better at higher levels. Speaking of playing the game, I've focused on the gacha side, but the rogue like non gacha side is quite good. I'm new to JRPGs, so the story feels fresh to me. And there is a LOT of game time in this mode that you can play entirely for free. Someone said one run takes 20 hours, which is probably true (I've spent probably 10 hours in this mode and still haven't finished the story). This mode has branching endings so you can play multiple times to get all the faction story endings. I'll eventually do this. Overall, i agree with the video. Give this game a try, you might like it. You don't have to spend a lot, or anything at all to play and progress in it, so i encourage you to give it a shot.
..This is a fair assessment imo. Indeed, pixel-tactics-game is a niche genre but it's fun.. I enjoy Sword of Convallaria probably because I love FFT and FFTA. Spiral of Destinies mode is great as this is where the story from all perspectives gets told to the player and the story is amazing imo. Even better than most gacha games currently in the market that earning millions.
Sword-RPG? Thought SRPG meant Strategy-RPG, since they are a tactics grid strategy games. Sword RPG is such a vague term, could litterally apply to any fantasy RPG.
So the lower rarity units are actually ridiculously good for pushing harder content while under leveled. They tend to have very focused kits so you can pick skills that make one of them excel at something like debuffing or dealing damage.
It's actually a great game with a cool writing and cool world, with various modes to enjoy it, and the gatcha component is hardly felt if gou play it casal Hope the community grows!
8:13 You can actually do sweeps without the currency, you just need to have a certain number of characters at a certain level (usually tied to the player lvl) you'll need multiple teams of these guys since there's a cooldown period for the characters after they do a sweep
Another thing is you just glazed over the music when this has one of the best soundtracks of any mobile game out there right now. Hitoshi Sakamoto is considered a legend in the field and has scored some of the greatest video game soundtracks of all time including final fantasy tactics, tactics ogre, vagrant story etc. He delivers here as it has some really awesome tracks especially some of the combat music.
Over the last few months since this game has been released I've put in over 280 hours in the game and I must dispute that the drop rates for legendaries isn't great. I play other gatcha's like Raid: Shadow Legends and Genshin Impact and this blows both of them out of the water in that regard. With those games, hard pity is what you're waiting for most of the time. With SoC? I don't think I've ever gotten to hard pity, or even soft pity. It is very FTP friendly as far as gatcha games are concerned, and it's part of the reason I keep playing it even though I've finished the Spiral of Destinies storylines and the Fool's Journey as well. Plus I happen to be a big fan of Tactics games like Fire Emblem, FFT, and Vandal Hearts, so this playstyle is right up my alley. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who wants a FTP tactics game who is capable of controlling themselves around gatcha games. You most certainly don't need to spend money, and as long as you're at the same level, the live pvp with real friends is a whole lot of fun as well. One thing of note I find really funny and really well played on their part in terms of "cheap tactics" is that I have on two different occasions done a 10-pull and gotten 2 legendary champions out of the mix, and both times they immediately put up a box saying "Enjoying this game? Please leave a review!" This tells me they are perfectly aware you just pulled multiple legendaries and they want to milk that fact to get a good review out of you. I can't even be mad at them for doing it, because if there was ever a perfect time to annoy you to review the game, that is it. Both times it literally made me laugh out loud to see it pop up. To me, this is a hidden gem, and deserves more love than it's getting, especially since, like Genshin Impact, it's so much fun to play just for the story without ever putting any money into it.
This game caught my eye since I'm a big fan of FF tactics and Tactic Ogre, and in that niche has been making some waves. My first hours has been really nice and I see myself investing some time with it, mainly because the gameplay it's very polished and it looks really good. So from the perspective of a casual player (I really don't care too much about meta or endgame) it's a pretty safe recommendation, at least for now
If you're a casual player just in it for the story, I can safely recommend just doing the Spiral of Destinies mode. There's zero daily grind and all you need is the keys, which you get just by logging in (you get 2 keys every 7 logins iirc).
Glad to see a fair review. I enjoy this a lot as a fan of final fantasy tactics war of the lions this is the niche I've been wanting to see for a while. While it has gacha, the unnamed characters that you become attached to can be named after getting bond ratings up. The gacha is rough , but the game can be beat it seems with the non SSRs just fine.
Hi! I actually love love love the review truly I do. It was actually nice to see a video that is not sponsored by the company and gave an honest review. When the game was released I immediately said to myself which content creators I watch will make a video about this game who was sponsored? and well I was right (no shade). I will never forget searching on youtube mobile games released in the future and I came across to my now favourite mobile games octopath cotc and sword of convallaria. The SOC i played a total over 75 hours on the beta and I was ecstatic to play the game. Thank you for making a review to this game regardless of our opinions and side whatever that may be I respect your video so much!!! again love love love the video review it was such a nice of point of view ty again!! cheers to all of us in the gaming community!!!!!
Im a day 1 player, as a casual f2p, i love it. I play at my own pace and im able to keep up with events and such, some other gachas the events are really for the paying players
11:34 thats the neat part, when you are at max bond with them you can name them also the single player game (spiral of destiny) could be a single player game by itself, its like 20 hours of campaign that is FREE. just think that as old trpg like tactic ogre and fire emblem old. not counting theres some branching route ngl i want to say "is this game really come from taiwan/chinese? how the fck they give a free game that (almost) have no timegate?"
To complete some harder contents especially Tower of Conquest, u still need to lvl some uncommon, rare, ur units cause they provide some very necessary utilities.
70% of comments are just 30 min tourists. Gameplay is fine, doesn't feel too drawn out, except some massive fights which are mostly during the endgame of Spiral. Rates are alright, at least compared to many others (looking at the less-than-one % off hoyoverse), but even if you don't get lucky, Epics and lower is enough to clear a lot of the content. I personally did up to Ch. 5 in Fool's journey with Hanged Man Epic units and Nungal off guarantee banner.
Actually, as you rank up units you DON'T get locked out of builds. Whenever you have a chance to learns a skill, you use up 1 currency (Castallia). If you get more via rewards (or if you choose not to learn a skill) you can go back to a previous node and learn the skill that you skipped out on. After which you can choose which skills to equip to your unit, so you adjust your team's skillset based on the need.
The simple fact that SSRs go into the standard banner after their rate up ends makes it way more likely that I'll actually check this game out in the future. I have less and less patience for games that don't do this these days.
I'm on the fence on this one. On one hand, i play SRPGs since, idk, 20 years ago? GBA days with fire emblem or just good old FFTactics and Wild Arms. But on the other side, i'm just tired of chibi/sprite gachas on gameplay. Specially knowing gachas likes Archeland are getting cancelled.
I've been thinking about trying this game since I saw ads for it because I liked the pixel art style So thank you for talking about it! I'll take your recommendation and try it haha
Minor Correction: At the end of the gameplay section, you mention that they incentivize certain trials with bonuses instead of gating trials behind days of the week. This is half true. They do give bonuses for the materials you need for ranking up, but when it comes to the trials that let you get weapons, those are gated behind days of the week. :/
A channel I follow for Fire Emblem recently did a sponsored video on this game, so I've been curious about. The download size being comparatively small is interesting. I might actually be able to run it on my phone, which would be a huge W for Conva
I would like to add this on the controls for PC, you can choose to connect a gamepad controller. (Like PS4/PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch Controllers, could be more than those 3)
I played for 9 days. The fun part ended about 6 days in when turned into a grind and wait game loop. What sets this apart from other gachas is that almost every character pulled can used. Even the common units are sometimes quite good. My main complaint is the amount of time it takes to play matches. The auto becomes worthless quickly, forcing you to play manually to win and it just takes way too long.
Main part of the game is story rogue like mode where you made choices rebuilt allies build things without realting to all other mode. They don't even give reward for playing story mode other than events which made you play few chapter and pay 2500gem. But that is the only mode i am actually playing for past few day and it was so good i was on my second run since each run took around 20 hour at least
Hey, are you by any chance gonna do a Another Eden review? I really like that game, but I also got mix feeling about it, hopefully you can do a review on it.
When u higher lvl … Free first legendary equipment (tier 1 equip) Free hero shard 3 a day (can choose) You can skip quest free for every 3 hour (depending on lvl and requirement minimum total unit) The third equipment (tier1 ) name tarot or trinket are actually free when u had lvl enough to farm them. Gacha system hmm not to bad. But consider for 180 guaranteed UR kinda high for free player For my experience random UR every time my friend summon (F2P) they got 1 or 2 unit easy for first 20-40 pull but the ur really random… I hope this help
The gacha is reasonable, you only need to get the character once then you can farm their memory crystal (the thing you get from dupes that you use to increase star level), and yeah the weapon banner basically just for whale since you'll get a lot legendary weapon from mission/stage/event's rewards and it even farmable
I'm just realizing how much art is shared by some of these games, specifically at :03 in the video I see at least two characters that I've seen in at least two other games (the one I remember is Pixel Heroes, the other I can't recall but know 100% it's true). You should do a video about that sometime!
I feel like the two similar SR characters that belong to the same faction is because they are no-name fodder units that are uniformed assassins. So I personally give it a pass.
i have seen that type of game before. it was from Kami no Rhapsody by Eushully. idk if they copy that game style and port it to there, but i can say it's pretty similar.
My honest review so far is, it’s pretty good for a “pay to play”game. A lot of the characters might be generic but a low tier hero can do a lot of damage like a high tier one. I’m 30 hours in and I’m enjoying the story aspect a lot, yes the 2D part might put you off but it’s kind of refreshing and the animations during battle are quite good in my opinion. If you’re on the fence about this game still after this video, I’d give my recommendation of 70% chance you might enjoy it.
I didnt see any info about this game till night after launch cuz i was looking for any upcoming gacha(and saw post on reddit), and found that gem (i liked tactics ogre)
I like these reviews, but I think it can benefits from a bit of a pause when going from topic to topic. It’s like hearing a new paragraph starts. Makes it easier to follow, even if it’s slower.
video 8 of asking psy to review guardian tales: i was on the fence about this game for a while since while i love the aesthetic and plot of the time travelling branching path multiple endings shtick, (gives me radiant historia vibes, love that game), im not too big of a fan of the grid like battle system. it also does feel a little bit too predatory for my liking. not for me, but damn is it beautiful to look at
I've really enjoyed this. I've gotten the 5 stars i wanted and i just love getting through the game without too much restriction. The rewards have been generous and not really caring about meta, cuz i just do clash for the rewards, not necessarily to win. It's just enjoyable and i've spent no money on either pass and almost have them completed. I give it a 4/5 and hopefully only goes up from here!
with a sketchy past I'm just too hesitant to invest my time let alone money into a title made by them until i see years of concrete improvement. Game looks nice though but i just can't find it in me to trust it.
I downloaded the game, gave it a try for a few hours, and then i saw the monetization and the pity system and had to stop. Shame i really liked the game and its mechanics, but the monetization was a bit too much.
low rarity units are the mvps of pve contents, the gacha is built that way because you can pull a single copy then max limit break that unit through farming... i understand that it's a first impressions video but come on man, some conclusions were misleading
sponsored first impressions are such a waste of time to watch most the time so I'm glad for this
And some companies are really smart about this because they will do a HUGE content creator sponsor campaign where it genuinely becomes difficult to NOT find a sponsored video.

You don't get the exp tho.
@@quilfrey1139you do, they just dont display.
You do get the rewards and xp
Oh shit, thanks! I thought I need the octopus tokens to sweep each time.
Nice review! A couple of observations though:
1) Yes, there is a weapon gacha, but every weapon on it is farmable as f2p. And they are not hard to acquire. There is no reason to EVER pull on the weapon gacha unless you are a MASSIVE whale and you want an early account boost.
2) There is no need need to summon dupes either, since they are farmable. (It takes 3 months to max 3 characters.)
3) Rerolling for 1 or 2 fetured characters of your choice is pretty easy. (It takes about 10 minutes per reroll, and you can delete guest accounts.)
4) This review is seriously underestimating lower rarity units...
(So I wouldn't say they "definitly have a lower capabiliy")
But otherwise, this is a very accurate description.
At least we got a lot of dust through the new event,
As for lower rarity charatcters, I can see where his confusion comes from.
How do you raise bond levels? I got these bond charm things I don't know how to use them
@@michealgironimo603 there's a bond menu and you can feed them to your characters there. each bond charm is like 200k bond exp or something! +1% for each bond level and you can name the unnamed chars at level 5!
I've never raised my bond level to 5 with any of the golds. That's really cool that you can name them!
How do you increase bond level? I don't know how
@@michealgironimo603 Using characters in battle will raise their bond xp, and you can get an item called the "Bond Charm" that raises it as well. Bond charms can be bought from the reputation section in the shop.
Actually, some low rarity units are crucial to clearing higher level content and actually prefered over five stars. This includes even common characters I think this game is better than others in incorporating non five star units.
Yep. He didn't do enough research. The 4 stars are also pretty capable for endgame.
I like that Common Assassin who can pull enemy with hook
@@wailmerwithinternetaccess7934 *get Over here*
Exactly. People are clearing tower with luxite bomb commons and rares lol.
Outlaw archer ❤
Also k.a archer for having an easy +70% crit
Can they still be good even ln late game? Or like this channel said, no?
@@alsparkproductions7849People have beaten the game on the TW/CN (Taiwan/Chinese) servers, which went up about a year ago, with only rare and common characters.
However by the time you do reach the late game you will undoubtedly have some legendaries at your disposal. Hell even at the mid game which you reach around level 30, you’ll have some. So there’s no need to worry.
Also, most if not all characters whether they are common or legendary are meta in PVE. It will just be easier to stat-check if you have a bunch of legendaries (in the early game.)
@@alsparkproductions7849 The review here is just basic first impressions, nothing more than that.
You have the option to send Cahracter on "Expeditions" in order to sweep so having a lot of characters built is valuable in this game
psychie doing a review on a gacha game that i don't even know about but i still watch because i enjoyed his content
What is true is that there is a major lack of information for global players, its been so hard to gather info on what people consider good lol
And yea the 180 pity is awful, Im really liking the game but Im scared for its schedule

The lower rarities are sick and more fun to play with for some stages.
the best thing about the meta is that higher numbers isn't necessarily better, everything has a niche or situation where they're preferred over SSR units. also they have a full fledged premium single player mode that comes for free with the f2p gacha mode, and it's where the main meat of the game is
To clarify, you can pretty easily get legendary weapons from story/pvp/free battle pass, and the character selector can also be obtained for free, thought it will take a really long time. You also didn't mention pvp and guilds altogether.
Otherwise a great video that details everything there is major to say about the game. Great work!
honestly I went in without any expectation and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.
especially after the shitshow that is WOTV...
unfortunately, the accelerated banner irked me, especially since dev promise that we'll get more to compensate the faster release but so far I haven't seen a lot of it
EDIT:
1. you made several mistakes there, skill that's not being picked can be unlocked using Castalia, a limited resources than you can get from clearing chapters or events
2. weapon and trinkets can be farmed, there's a stage for it, but yes the weapon banner is a whale bait. I've heard that OG server almost implement a character specific weapons for it's gacha but I can't find any info about it.
3. you can sweep using characters, but they're required to be leveled up to the stages levels and then they're put into cooldown for at least 3 hours which means the amount of sweep without using the canned octopus is time limited (it's kinda dumb TBH)
4. The Legendary or SSR's pity which is 100 pulls works on all banner, but the guaranteed one (180 pulls) between debut (new character) and destiny (2 SSR rate up) are not since they're technically different banner.
5. you can name your lower rarity characters, but they're locked behind bond lv5
6. there's a SSR selector that is accesible for F2p, but it's locked behind gacha dupes currency
We already have different events to farm and get pulls
1. He did say you can unlock the other side with a rare item (castalia)
2. agree
3. agree
4. agree
5. about generic name it is done the same as old SRPG games which is why they name them so generic with the last bond giving you a change to rename them. in the Spiral of Destiny the mercenaries you recruit all have names and not generic.
6. you are not getting that until maybe 1-2 year imo
Missed out on FF7AC collab but it is what it is
Try out SoC and it is fun imo even tho the localization isnt its strong point, due to this I jump back into WOTV to get the fantasy story that I longed for, continuing on after Oberon gone mad lol.
Despite liking tactics games, WOTV didn't hook me, what has happened to it in the last few years?
Add some mistake that other didn't mention
1. Lower rarity unit is actually very good
all PVE stage can be cleared without legendary and most niche trait that might help clearing stage easier is with lower rarity unit
2. All legendary weapon can be farmed, While trinket couldn't (but it will appear often as event and first clear rewards)
Thats why weapon gacha is whale bait
3. Skin gacha is using FREE currency.
so you don't have to buy it if you sacrifice some gacha rolls
and the value actually wasn't that bad as you got some trinket, which is non-farmable and Castalia for open up more skill tree
I always appreciate the One Step From Eden BGM. Nice touch.
Glad someone finally noticed
As a Final Fantsy Tactics enjoyer that has never felt another similar game has delivered i kinda want to try it out
I'm currently playing it and this game it's made for me, I also want to say something, the sweep option doesn't require the can tuna to complete, that's just to recover your units quickly, after 3 hours those units will be available again, thanks to that i can do my daily missions in 5 to 10 minutes, also for a Strategy RPG a kin to FF tactics, the length of battles is pretty standard if not shorter
It's good, the story is worth reading and taking your time with, low rarity units can be just as or better at times than high rarity ones you have
I agree, I joined Union route and beat up, didn't like the story of that route much and didn't touch any more story for a week.
The "recruited assassin" have a hook skill that can make you cheese certain level
And "outlaw bowman" have broken debuff skill that make him commonly use on the endgame gameplay
"Papal ice priest" is a good aoe + slow debuff on enemy ,you can kite any enemy melee unit with him forever
one thing u might have missed, is that there's a equipment farm levels, and they drop the same things on the equipment gacha

I love your channel. For a lot of UA-camrs, they are tied to a specific game or mode of content, but I find that your main appeal is your presentation rather than the content you present.
You are actually the first youtuber that i've seen that goes this much into detail to review games like background of the company and monetization, and i like that very much.
One thing to note, since this review is only 10 hours in: The Events tend to be extremely narrow in gameplay (to the point you may even need a Video Guide to complete early stages)
Additionally, while individual 'Keys of Destiny' can offer you hours of content (that's not a joke, the campaign is looong) Free Keys have an expiration date, meaning the game expects you to play a certain amount of the campaign every two weeks or waste resources.
You can skip story, sometimes you can't but I've found that the 3 dots in the bottom right allow you to access the skip function.
..This is a fair assessment imo.
You thought right. I have no idea where he gots this "Sword-RPG" thing from lmao.
So the lower rarity units are actually ridiculously good for pushing harder content while under leveled. They tend to have very focused kits so you can pick skills that make one of them excel at something like debuffing or dealing damage.
It's actually a great game with a cool writing and cool world, with various modes to enjoy it, and the gatcha component is hardly felt if gou play it casal
Hope the community grows!
@chibixleon that is Hitoshi Sakimoto-SAMA! and I just learned of this game and so I will be playing it now.
I would add that the common and rare units are being used to clear some of the hardest dungeons
Even though its been a long while seeing psychie review gacha games instead of deadcells content is jarring
Convallaria is my favorite gacha game out right now!

Thats funny since at high end tower its being cheesed by Nightingale and other lower units
I really enjoy the story which is rare for me because most gachas I don’t even care to know what is going on.
Immediate thumbs up beceause you arent sponsored doing this review!
I've been thinking about trying this game since I saw ads for it because I liked the pixel art style
So thank you for talking about it! I'll take your recommendation and try it haha
Be prepared to cry from the story 😭
Minor Correction: At the end of the gameplay section, you mention that they incentivize certain trials with bonuses instead of gating trials behind days of the week. This is half true. They do give bonuses for the materials you need for ranking up, but when it comes to the trials that let you get weapons, those are gated behind days of the week. :/
A channel I follow for Fire Emblem recently did a sponsored video on this game, so I've been curious about. The download size being comparatively small is interesting. I might actually be able to run it on my phone, which would be a huge W for Conva
It's like Radiant Historia but we get to choose what kingdom to collab with!
When u higher lvl …
Free first legendary equipment (tier 1 equip)
Free hero shard 3 a day (can choose)
You can skip quest free for every 3 hour (depending on lvl and requirement minimum total unit)
The third equipment (tier1 ) name tarot or trinket are actually free when u had lvl enough to farm them.
Gacha system hmm not to bad. But consider for 180 guaranteed UR kinda high for free player
For my experience random UR every time my friend summon (F2P) they got 1 or 2 unit easy for first 20-40 pull but the ur really random…
I hope this help
The gacha is reasonable, you only need to get the character once then you can farm their memory crystal (the thing you get from dupes that you use to increase star level), and yeah the weapon banner basically just for whale since you'll get a lot legendary weapon from mission/stage/event's rewards and it even farmable
Man I do miss worl flipper
I was waiting until you reviewed this game to give it a try or not, and i think i gonna try it
13:36 How could you do my man Hitoshi Sakimoto like that - he's got some of the most talent in the VG music industry!
One of the case that low rarity is CRUCIAL at higher difficulties
Imo some of them actually shine late game than early game due to their niches
Does this means high rarity is worse than low rarity or game is easy enough for low rarity to be good?
I love the rating system. It’s simple and tells me exactly what I thought of the game when I played it.
It also Appears you can rename Units by max bonding them
I'm just realizing how much art is shared by some of these games, specifically at :03 in the video I see at least two characters that I've seen in at least two other games (the one I remember is Pixel Heroes, the other I can't recall but know 100% it's true). You should do a video about that sometime!
Everything goes kaput, you awaken in a floating thingy and get to redo the events... is this Radiant Historia with a cat instead of the creepy kids?
I feel like the two similar SR characters that belong to the same faction is because they are no-name fodder units that are uniformed assassins. So I personally give it a pass.
Tactics games them to be way slower, but you get faster with practice and familiarity with the units and mechanics
actually for pushing the harder late game stages those low tier units are often better than the legendries lol
i have seen that type of game before. it was from Kami no Rhapsody by Eushully. idk if they copy that game style and port it to there, but i can say it's pretty similar.
The spiral of destinies is the best game mode that they have!! the amount of hours I've spend on it for the story is insane but I love it so much!
Nice to hear objective opinion. I just like them for the art. Like Arknight, Im suck at strategy and often rely on youtube for this game too
I like these reviews, but I think it can benefits from a bit of a pause when going from topic to topic.
Any chance you make a video for the new interception mode in Nikke and the Collab units. It has been ages since you made a Nikke video
I downloaded the game, gave it a try for a few hours, and then i saw the monetization and the pity system and had to stop. Shame i really liked the game and its mechanics, but the monetization was a bit too much.
Hey Pseychie, are you gonna do a EoS video for Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Global EOS?
low rarity units are the mvps of pve contents, the gacha is built that way because you can pull a single copy then max limit break that unit through farming... i understand that it's a first impressions video but come on man, some conclusions were misleading
Agreed, felt like he got some info online rather than experienced it himself
I love this game. First time trying this genre and it's so f2p friendly.
