Biggest Culvert Unclogging Of 2022 So Far

- I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

The enthusiasm for cleaning culverts is infectious, I must admit.
I used to share the same excitement for your content.
Not a surprise really :) Unclogging something just to watch that massive amount of have finally have a way to go with noticable strenght is exciting. It's like releasing the nature power from the shackles.
On the other hand ... all these drains we built to dry out farmland or for houses or whatever, is one of the reasons groundwater levels are dropping. The water no longer sits and filters down.
I inherited the family farm, and a pump brings up water from below and then my SEPTIC tank puts it back. With added nutrients!
I agree. I have a duty now
I just watched a man clean a ditch for 26 minutes… and I wish I was there in person.
welcome to the post10 experience friend XD
Yeah. Been watching post a long time now. I'm still unsure as to why...

My dude a blocked culvert flooded a bunch of houses in a place called Heathfield, East Sussex, UK, it was shocking how bad it got and ruined gardens and homes including a couple who had just moved in and a couple who had just fixed up their garden as the wife had terminal cancer and she wanted somewhere nice to rest at home. This work you're doing is potentially saving similar horrible results - good man!
I love it when someone gets excited about something they're passionate about. Thanks for sharing your passion with us!
SOME OF THEM HAVE THREE INCHES IN DIAMETER!!!
Totally agree, but I think there's more to that. IMO Post 10's secret recipe consists of:
- child-like joy over minuscule things like whirlpools and strong currents/ gushes of water
- taking himself and his hobby a little bit too serious like a teenager
- focus, dedication and pride for performing community service like a soldier
and lastly
- disdain for the incompetence of governmental services like a middle-aged man
... there's something for everyone!
@@philipphunold9836 haha, so accurate!
UA-cam hated showing the rocks in the water, it was a blocky mess of bad compression, you should try upscaling to 4k 60fps before you upload, even if you record in 1080p

All my childhood I loved watching water flow, unblocking rivers, remove large rocks and watch water change the course of it's flow. I'm so happy that I found this channel.
I really hope this channel is monetized. What a shining example of public service and how satisfying hard work can be.
Having footage at the other side of the culvert makes this so much more exciting, excellent work man!
The only thing better than watching a post 10 video before work is knowing that you have one to watch when you get out of work

Regarding comfort, new boots almost never feel great the first day.
Yeah!!! This is my favorite kind of Post 10 content- big culvert & beaver dam clog clearing. Great way to start the day!
I just hope that nothing bad ever happens to him trying to do this, like getting sucked into a drain or waterway.
You may think of this as a hobby but your passion for it says so much more. Amazing human being!
Totally! True That

It's fortuitous that people like me find these videos fascinating, because it allows you to earn an income while helping out society which is win freaking win as far as I'm concerned. Keep up the great hard work and great content!
If I could there’s nothing more I’d love to do than spend a Saturday with you clearing out culverts. Your wisdom far outweighs your years and I think certainly you were a DOT civil engineer in a past life 😆
I enjoy how positive-minded Post is! It is great to be so young and so strong! Excellent work!!!
Reminds me of "Unclogging Massive Clog From Giant Thick Cast-Iron Culverts" from almost a year ago (which is one of if not my favorite video of yours) a little. Keep up the good work!
I love that you can see the flow in the second culvert pick up at about 12:12, so satisfying!
Loved watching this. My husband also does the same thing. After a storm he unblocks sewer holes along the roads and there is a large creek that gets really high that he unblocks too. Before the city trimmed the many trees along the banks, and old roots, he waded and removed huge fallen branches from culverts. He is a retired forestry firefighter of 24 years, so is familiar with wilderness. The water runs freely only till next time. Thank you for this video.
Post 10 is really the community's hero everywhere he goes! Keeping the New England states beautiful and pristine!! Love the content and keep making these amazing videos!! Maine the way life should be....because of people like you!!!
I am so terrified of open water; lakes, ponds, rivers, ocean, even tiny streams like this. And the culvert thing scares me so so sooo much. Yet I can't stop watching your videos because they're strangely therapeutic. Good job you 💪 Hope your new boots get more comfy!
I think the rocks tumbling down there are eroding the culverts. Seems like a lot of them are moving through over time hence the buildup of stones and dirt on the entrance on the right side.
This guy is doing a great public service and making genuinely entertaining content while doing it.
love how excited you sound when you realize exactly how bad it is. you're living your best life out here and I respect you for it. also love the two different angles at the same time, makes it so much cooler to watch! keep up the good work
The stacked stone arch way over the culverts is a work of art! I noticed that straight away.
Right!!
Would love to know if the DOT actually wound up unblocking the second culvert. Great work you're doing here!
Should have known I wasn't the only DF player who would enjoy this kind of video lol
@@DayGloOreo Aye, we definitely have a particular brand of entertainment.

I just want to thank you for your videos. You taught me how to clear the culvert on my property that was washing out my driveway and large front yard. The utility company in my area wouldn’t help me. I was looking at a large contractor expense until I found your videos. Thank you so much!!!
The fact that I know you drive for hours doing this, and that it can be very boring work, that you have (what I believe to be) your girl with you by your side is probably the best thing I've seen all week.
Good morning! 😊 It's rare that I see a new video over breakfast. Nice way to start this rainy morning. I hope you are doing well.
This was one of the best culvert videos yet. Loved watching the big logs coming out the other side.
I did this stuff my entire childhood! You, my friend, had brought back many fond memories.
An inspirational human being. If there were more like you, the world would be a brighter place. You know what you’re doing but please, young man, be wary of the siphon you create when doing these. They are dangerous and nearly always fatal x
you can be one of them, too :)
I've been watching for about a year. Love your love of nature and waterways. I live in the Central Valley in California. Got about 8 days of rain this year. Love to see you helping and educating us on water management. 🙂💧
Doesn't help when your politicians drain drinking water reservoirs and mismanage everything
Small world cuz I also live here and it’s just nice to not see Central Valley “water”
Way to beat the DOT! Great job! You never disappoint! Stay safe and stay healthy!
This is a classic post 10 unclogging vid. One for the greatest hits, for sure!
I think you hit the algorithm I got randomly suggested a bunch of your videos over the past week. Good luck. Enjoy the rise!
I can not tell you how excited I got to see that big log come out the other side. I love the dual setup!!
Post 10 and that trusty famous rake. Great job done by Post ensuring that the culvert is free of debris. Those culvert tunnels were ripe for Black Widow spiders just the sort of environment they like. This was no barrier to Post 10 however and he just ploughed on through anyway.👍
One day this rake will be on display in the Smithsonian
@@Deckzwabber thinking the same! If post10 ever retires from this lets hope he donates that rake to some place that shows what a single man with quite a simple rake can do for waterways to work.
That was an insanely massive clog. Thanks for putting in all the hard work for the safety of the road and our entertainment! I'm glad I get to watch videos like this on UA-cam. Where I live, it only rains a few days a year, and less than a combined 13 inches over the year. I love the rain, and videos like this let me see what can't happen here. On another note, I think UA-cam dropped their bitrate quite a bit over the past year or 2. Any chance you could export as like 1440p or 4k? It'll make sure UA-cam doesn't crush the bitrate on the flowing water. I understand if you don't want to. I've done video editing for quite a few years, and bumping up to 4k took quite a bit more render time
Guy in slow car "why is that guy playing in the ditch by the culvert, Weird"
Something like what the person is doing is one of those things that is not the “usual sort of thing” you see people doing. If my eyes were opened to just what are the usual things you see people doing, I’d be shocked. Just what are some of the things that are classed as “usual”? Sunbathing, dating, snorkeling, scuba diving, tennis, just to list a few.
I used to be the same way. Any time I saw something blocking a water pathway, i unclogged it. Love the simplicity, yet helpful way you’re helping your community.
Just an FYI from someone who used to clean these sections for a living, don't throw large amounts of debris down the culvert. If the flow isn't strong it will just come to rest in the centre and make a future clean up crew's life a pain. Take them out and pile them back a few feet from the entrance so they don't fall back in and the crew will see it and clean it up.
I couldn't believe he was doing that. I checked the comments to see if anyone else felt the same way. Glad I'm not alone.
Yes Gary.
Attention must be paid . The comment referred to blocking any culvert where there is not sufficient flow to carry the detritus through, not this particular one. I was also not happy seeing the large branches being put through.
Great enthusiasm though, great worker.
@@Obvious666 I've watched more of his videos than I care to admit and he does know what he is doing. Water flow through the culvert gets mentioned regularly.
He also points out the dangers of clearing blockages and doesn't recommend people who don't know what they are doing copy him.
@@garyshearer0 his comment doesn’t apply. Logs can clog up in the middle any time.
@@jtfikedid you not watch the video? He goes and clears them up at the end. Clearly was confident the flow would carry the logs through to the end of the culvert, where he then could clear it up.

About a 3 foot clog 😮 this one is going to be tough to beat. Would definitely be nice to come back once NH digs out that right side culvert.

Just one point which many of you may find weird in the USA - Here in the UK was are slowly re-introducing beavers into the wild with some great success. Beavers were wiped out in the UK up to about 150 years ago. The damage by not having them has been immense and where they have been introduced that have prevented flood damage to communities down stream of the damn they have built.
Sadly our 'powers that be' sneakily announced last week (3rd Sept 2022) that they're going to allow English farmers to use 'lethal force' on beavers if they 'threaten their crops or land' (which is like saying 'if you feel like it' in government speak). Only a month ago they announced they will be giving them full protection status from October. It's crazy! 😔
They are starting to reintroduce beavers in some areas in the us where the drought has been bad. They have decided that the beaver ponds are a big help against the drought.
Flowing like a river indeed! That was a good one for sure, wish I was there to give you a hand with the second culvert I'm sure we could tackle it with no problem. Cool video 😎👍

I’ve always been super scared of these things because when I was like 5 my cousins friend thought it would be a good idea to try and swim through one like a waterslide without checking that it was passable. Respect the strength of water people
Did it work tho
Did he died?
There is a huge one in Salt Lake. People put a board in front of it to let water build up, then they yank the board, and you go flying through on an innertube. Pretty popular in the summer. :) Many people have drowned in the rock pool at the end of tge chute during storm season though. It's in a dog park, and people will let their dogs play in it when water is running fast, then they jump in to save the dog and drown. Pretty tragic, but preventable just by using your brain...
There’s a second camera person! 18’26”! I just assumed you set up a tripod and left a second camera to go until you picked it up. My minds unreasonably blown that there’s a second team member!
Also the sound of the water is soooo relaxing. Love this channel
The DoT up there must've ignored this one for quite a while to have so much debris pile up that it essentially made the other culvert vanish; it had multiple tree logs in it, and I can't imagine those things drop into a river every day. That looks like months, if not years, of pile up, considering how rotten the logs were.
The other culvert looked relatively unobstructed, so maybe the DoT thought that so long as at least one was relatively clear, the other one didn't matter.
Bacon, eggs, coffee and a post 10 video! This Sunday is starting off great!

You are my new favorite channel. Question for you - if/when you come across something such as this where you cannot clear it by hand, do you contact the local department of public works that does maintain these things so they can clear it? If/when you do, would you be allowed to film and post that content as well? I'd be fascinated to see a follow up on a situation such as this one. Have a blessed day - you do amazing work!!
Willow trees have an amazing life force. Just a broken branch will sprout roots and grow into a sizable bush in a few seasons if it falls on the right spot. Such as a nice moist pile of half rotten leaves in front of a clogged culvert. And here it seems to be a whole tree that washed down the stream
Maybe a dumb question but wouldn’t it be better to take out the big logs to prevent that they get stuck again in the next canal or something? Great video btw!

What's more amazing other than this man's dedication and enthusiasm is the fact he's using a rake to clear them debris. Maybe it's 'cuz rakes aren't common in my country but I'm mad impressed still.

Hey, aren't you worried that by pushing through so many logs that they won't just catch on something later and cause a clog or a build up downstream?
If it's nearer a smaller road or a residential area then could that be more detrimental than say this one is?
Love your videos, keep it up!
From the UK
*EDIT* OK you literally mentioned that for this one it'll be OK due to the bridges and not really any other culverts, but my question was realting to over videos and other culverts?
Or is that just making sure there's always more for you to unclog? :P
well realistically culverts are always going to get clogged eventually, and pushing some logs through will probably not lead to another clog, because clogs like this take lots of material and time, and when you shove it through like this, it gets dispersed downstream over a large distance.
Also, these larget culverts almost never lead into long narrow ditches, these are build for larger reliefs and bypasses, where a few big logs won't hurt a thing. Anything small enough for this to have a major effect he wouldn't be able to get these logs through in the first place lol
if there is a long enough stretch of river and water, the logs will be waterlogged and sink to the bottom and decompose. so not a major problem downstream.
I was thinking the same thing, I would not put the big debris into the tunnel
He actually checks on map if there are other culverts or river downstream, he mentioned it in several other videos.
