I've been wanting to redesign book covers for like two years now but I'm always just scared because it's like .. but the covers are iconic. so I understand the struggle of this video being ONE YEAR IN THE MAKING!! BUT WORTH IT CAUSE LOOK HOW PENG!!
There are zero likes on this video and it better stay that way cause this is TALENT at it's best. I think you should sell these cover versions. I have no clue at all about the copyright and things like that, but I've seen people selling books with alternate illustrated covers on ig. I think it was fairyloot who was selling acotar books.
Both are cool design concepts. The clean lines and shapes of the anniversary edition is more my style, but I could totally see the first cover used as art work for the end papers inside the book. Kudos! I’d buy the anniversary edition if I saw it at the store.

When I was in middle school, my teachers could choose whichever book they gave to us and FOR ONCE A TEACHER DID SOMETHING RIGHT AND CHOSE A YA BOOK So we read The Hunger Games when it came out in my country, in 2012, 7th grade, and everyone loved it, many people became readers (which is what you'd want) and then it was such a huge success that he gave us on 8th grade Catching Fire; that thing united my class, i made like a whole group read it was insane, we all went together to the movies to see hunger games and catching fire the year after so I think my favorite is Catching Fire
The way I clicked on this video so fast!! Both of these are GORGEOUS!!! I NEED THEM BOTH!!!! I can totally see why you prefer the "special edition" cover yourself but I really love the "modern" version. You've really captured the more environmental theme that's focused on in SFF YA lately as well as the heart of the books. I agree that maybe those types of leaves would be better for Catching Fire but as a concept it's beautiful!! I will forever be in awe of your skills

Both of your covers are absolutely gorgeous! I've recently fallen down the Hunger Games rabbit hole again, went to look up the printed editions available and was actually a little disappointed that there were so few editions to choose from (I mean, the original book designs are neat, but after 10+ years I would have expected more variety, maybe even an illustrated edition if I was lucky, but I digress) - I would have picked either of your cover designs in a heartbeat! Love the special edition cover for its sleek design (even though birds are such a pain to draw, you did a phenomenal job with that Mockingjay!) and the modern edition feels so creative and fresh! I do see what you mean about the leaves in this version feeling more tropical and evocative of Catching Fire... I feel like katniss-shaped leaves or leaves shaped like other recurring symbolic plants from the book (rue, primrose, dandelions, etc.) could work really well for a more woodsy sort of feel... Anyway, both designs are just positively awesome!
both of them are so good but the first one kind of reminds me of modern day cotemporary book covers so that might be why it doesn't really feel like a dystopian cover

Hiii, is there a reason why you used shape layers and not just do it with a paint brush layer for the first design? Or is it just easier for you that way?
