I think this was a hard song for Dean to sing, given the grief he gave Jeannie. Afterall, she took on all of Dean's kids from his previous wife and raised them. She was a saint. It just took Dean a long time to figure that out. You could feel Dean's pain, and a little struggle to get through it, and he didn't smile like he usually does after a song. This was quite personal.
He cheated on his first wife with Jeannie. She just got a taste of what she put another woman through. I've read every biography on Dean. Jeannie had cooks, housekeepers, chauffeurs, all the money she could possibly spend. Not a bad life. And you reap what you sow.
I hasd the pleasure of meeting Dean a couple of times. He was such a nice person. I met him at Carmine's restaurant on Santa Monica Blve. in Century City , Los Angeles. It was by accident. I can't help he is thinking about Jeanne even thou they wasn't together at this time I think. But this would of been a song for her at the end of his life. Just read a People Magazine article I read today. Must of been shortly after his death. It cover his show business life, his death. They talked to Jeanne, she was with him at the end just like Jeanne and Dean was with his mother a few years earlier both of them die on Christmas morning. His mom was about 3:15 and Dean about 3:30. So I can't help thinking this song ended summing up what kind of a wife and a friend Jeanne was to Dean.
A man needs to have felt, to have lost, to have hurt, to have wept and to have realised that everything he is and was, is down to his wife to be able to sing like this. This is not just raw talent, this is all that life is in song. He was incredible.

Just a true performer that will always be missed
Hands that are strong but wrinkled
Doing work that never gets done
Hair, that's lost some of the beauty
By too many hours in the sun
Eyes, that show some disappointment
And there's been quite a lot in her life
She's the foundation I lean on
My woman, my woman, my wife
Everyday has been uphill
Oh, we climb but we can't reach the top
I'm weak and I'm easily discouraged
She just smiles when I want to stop
Lips, that are weary but tender
With love, that strengthens my life
A saint, in a dress made of gingham
My woman, my woman, my wife
Two little babies were born in the spring
But died when the winter was new
I lost control of my mind and my soul
But my woman's faith carried us through
When she reaches that river
Lord, you know what she's worth
Give her that mansion up yonder
'Cause she's been through hell here on earth
Lord, give her my share of Heaven
If I've earned any here in this life
'Cause God, I believe she deserves it
My woman, my woman, my wife
