My Mom and Dad didn't listen to alot of the same music, but this was what I would call "their song". They were married for just over 21 years before my Dad passed away. My Mom was a widow at 42 yrs old and I was a 19 yr old sophomore in college. Every time I hear this song, I think of my parents. Mom has now gone on too, after being without her only love for nearly 36 years. Maybe soon I'll be able to join them and we'll be a family again with my older brother too, also gone, just 2 years after my Mom went to be with our Dad. The emotions that emerged in Dino's face, especially near the end of the song. His heart, mind and soul were totally into that performance. As he progressed, he seemed to be drawn deeper into the remorse he felt for having cast away the greatest and possibly the only true love in his life. He was struggling to keep himself composed so he could finish. He is truly a legend.
I think this would have been around the time his marriage with Jeanne was starting to break up. The lyrics seem to have really resonated with him in this performance.

This performance that Dino gave here is so heart touching (moreover knowing that he was almost bursting into tears while singing it. Somehow, you can relate to him). Thank you for uploading this in good quality. You got a great collection of Mr. Martin.
Maybe someone else here can give you a better answer, but my guess is that, somehow, he sang this song with Jeanne in mind (not sure if this episode was aired before or after he divorced her :/ ).
Jeanne and him was going Thur a divorce about this time so that would explain the tears. It also had to be hard cause he was a star it was public knowledge. I have to hand it to him cause he was not afraid to show his feeling. A happier copy of him singing this can be found on UA-cam from 1983 he was on a tour in London. It was his birthday, he got a award and best of all he announce that Jeanne and him was back together. Then 2 or 3 songs later he sung this song with a big smile. I think this is my favorite song of his cause the w different versions I have seen.
Him and Jeanne was going Thur a divorce at this time of his life, which explain the tears. My heart breaks every time I see this. There a video of him singing this song from 1983, he was performing in England, he has a big smile on his face. He just announced that Jeanne came with him on the trip, they was hanging out together. I watch that one a lot cause it was,a happier time in his life
Toni Wilson I love to watch that video of his London concert too. I don’t know if you noticed, but there are two really sweet moments that stand out for me: when Dean starts to announce that he and Jeannie were getting back together, he almost said “my wife and I” before stopping himself and changing it to “Jeannie and I”. That to me indicates how he must have always thought of her despite the divorce and all the years they spent apart. Also, while he was singing ‘Bad, Bad Leroy Brown’, he changed the lyrics to ‘At the end of the bar stood a girl named JEANNIE, and Oh she sure looked nice’ I believe that you are right, Dean was a happy man on that trip.
@@lindashelley3635 I'm not sure if they had any of the children with them in 1983 in London. However, Dean performed in London again in 1987 (I believe), it was after Dean Paul had passed away. Jeanne, Dean Paul's son, and one or two of their other children were with them on that trip. Jeanne was the love of his life, and he was hers.
One of my best friends just send me this song today, few minutes before my birthday I am all by myself, feeling more down and alone than anything, and he told me I just drink a few glasses while listening to this song. I don't feel alone anymore, I feel just at home
Don't look so sad, I know it's over But life goes on and this old world will keep on turning Let's be glad we had some time to spend together There's no need to watch the bridges that we're burning Lay your head upon my pillow Hold your warm and tender body close to mine Hear the whisper of the raindrops blowing soft across the window And make believe you love me one more time For the good times I'll get along, you'll find another And I'll be here if you should find you ever need me Don't say a word about tomorrow or forever There'll be time enough for sadness when you leave me Lay your head upon my pillow Hold your warm and tender body close to mine Hear the whisper of the raindrops blowing soft across the window And make believe you love me one more time For the good times
Thanks Fred Koltz. Just watched it again and had butterflies again. No messing around as we are used to, just very emotional, beautiful words and accompanying orchestra
I have always loved Dean & and his voice. I had a crush on him for years. I met him in Vegas in 1983 and what a gentleman, very soft spoken. We talked for a bit and he asked where I was from. He told me I had to be Canadian as I was not being pushy when I wanted to say Hi to him.
Once in a life time we meet somebody that changes us forever to the core of our heart. My forever love passed 2 years ago. This song reminds me of the love we shared. I was sent to save him and he was sent to save me. Sometimes it's hard to be without him but I still feel hes with me at times. It usually brings me peace. Today listening to this opened up such sadness. May we hang on to our loved ones for tomorrow is promised to no one. X

And make believe you love me one more time
For the good times
I'll get along, you'll find another
And I'll be here if you should find you ever need me
Don't say a word about tomorrow or forever
There'll be time enough for sadness when you leave me
Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops blowing soft across the window
And make believe you love me one more time
For the good times
Thanks Fred Koltz. Just watched it again and had butterflies again. No messing around as we are used to, just very emotional, beautiful words and accompanying orchestra
I have always loved Dean & and his voice. I had a crush on him for years. I met him in Vegas in 1983 and what a gentleman, very soft spoken. We talked for a bit and he asked where I was from. He told me I had to be Canadian as I was not being pushy when I wanted to say Hi to him.
One of Dean's best.
The most entertaining singer or all time. Dearly missed.
