Tonight I bring you another forgotten Football Ground video, this time it is Elm Park, The former home ground of Reading from 1896-1998.

Loved the old girl but we needed to move. Sir John had a vision for the club and knew we had to modernise, and while the Madejski isn't exactly loved in wider football circles it was the only viable site for the club. But Elm Park holds fond memories for me on the South Bank (which you refer to as the Tilehurst Terrace). Thanks for the video 😊
As a teenager in the 90s this place was my life every home game. What an atmosphere we had back then. I still miss Elm Park. I imagine my kids going to a game nowadays how we did their age and wonder what they’d make of it. Great vid mate brought back loads of great memories 👍
I went to Elm Park once, in September 1990. Not to see Reading play though. It was to see my non league team, Kingstonian, play Wokingham Town, who were sharing the ground with Reading.
good video, nice early memories of watching games here in the 90s with my dad. Always look over the road when i’m around there at the blocks of flats and remember the ground.
Spent hundreds of happy hours there in the '70s, 80s and 90s. I was at the last game and still have the seats my father and I sat on as well as some of the pitch in my garden and the clock from the boardroom in my study.
South Bank not the Tilehurst Side but fairly good 9/10
brilliant to see elm patk again but the covered terrace was always known as the south bank
A ground I never went to, although I've been to the Madjeski to see Walsall play an FA Cup tie. Maybe you could have mentioned that it was Robert Maxwell who wanted to merge Oxford Utd and Reading into The Thames Valley Royals
Trainers required at this place. Pref running ones!!
Loved elm park you rsssssssss
Great to see Elm Park again.
Very informative
Another great vid.
Great video mate

I am really enjoying you series. Very well researched. I hope you do a few from Scotland. Particularly cathkin park, former home of third Lanark.
Have you done one on Plough Lane Wimbledon? That would be a good one because they've now returned there.
The film Fever Pitch features scenes filmed at Elm Park, I think there were a few other things filmed there too.
It was Robert Maxwell i believe that wanted the merger and new name of the combined clubs was going to be Thames Royals
I never went to Elm Park but, shortly after they moved to their magnificent new home, I saw my club, Bristol Rovers, beat them 6-0!
