Metal Detecting Abandoned 1820's Stone Bridge

- This stone bridge was built in the 1820s and is the largest one in the area from that historic time. The bridge was abandoned some years ago and is rapidly succumbing to floods and the weather. On this day I search with my metal detector in the waters below, under, and above the bridge. The river was a little high and very cloudy this day due to recent rains. Burt with time, I do find some interesting artifacts.
About Aquachigger:
I enjoy metal detecting for historical items like gold coins, relics, silver coins, and other buried treasures. I also metal detect for gold and silver nuggets and even meteorites. I like to make videos that promote my choice of lifestyle that includes outdoor adventure,
metal detecting, yapping, searching for river treasure, SCUBA diving, exploring abandoned places, hiking, caving, caring for animals and pets, and observing the things outdoors that often go unnoticed by most people who are not familiar with outdoor adventures and nature. I keep my UA-cam "Aquachigger" channel family-friendly and hope you subscribe if you like my style.
BTW, you can also catch me here, / chiggsarmy ,but I may get a little edgier there. FB isn't a place for kids anyway...lol.

Hey guys.... just want to let you know that I have not ben able to get out much lately. By mid-week or so, I should be able to get back out there more often. Thanks for sticking around and I hope you like the video! Chigg
It's all good chigg we'll always be here when you are back on the grind lol
You rubbed your face a lot w/wet hand...good enough for the flesh-eating bacteria..
Have a Garrett ACE 400. Is it waterproof to totally go under water.
@@laker3 I think chigg has a video out on how to waterproof a detector, I personally wouldn't try to get into the water without sealing it up
@@scrappydoo7887 Thank you. I'll try and find that video.
Beautiful Bridge! The craftmanship is really something.
prolly built with slave labor
We have a almost identical bridge in our town that was built around the same time. I think it was rebuilt around 1900 and fell into disrepair after it wasn’t used for traffic anymore. They’re currently spending a boatload of money to rebuild it again. It’s nice to see landmarks preserved and a shame when they’re at the point this bridge is where it’s probably beyond saving.
Great looking bridge. It’s sad to see such a beautiful landmark slowly being reclaimed by nature.
agreed, but it's also beautiful in a way
Indian head penny and a silver war nickel, not too shabby!
I bet the men who built that bridge were mighty proud when it was done and celebrated down there in the creek with some stiff drinks while they admired their work and enjoyed the sun. Then they packed up and headed to the next job.... now it sits there a couple hundred years later in silence.
There's a couple like that in Ct some they rebuilt to Original Condition Stone Mason's founders of our County fantastic Craftsmanship for Sure Beau!!!
I enjoy Aquachigger's vids and he inspired me to think about taking up the hobby but I haven't and won't. Why? Because everything he does in this video would be illegal in my state of Wisconsin -- if I read the law correctly, and I'm pretty sure I do. In fact, Wisconsin's laws about metal detecting are so restrictive that I've concluded there's no point in even buying a detector. Is Wisconsin just an extreme case, an outlier? Nobody on UA-cam ever talks about this. Maybe people are just doing it anyway and keeping their mouths shut because they know their chances of being caught are nealy zero but the knowledge that what I'm doing is illegal would sap all the fun out of it for me. And the fun is really the point, isn't it?
That is so stupid. What idiots in the state legislature (and governor's house) voted for that? And what possible reason could they have, other than being bought-off by some lobbyist?
It's a cryin' shame there's no organization trying to save that bridge. It would cost millions of dollars to build a new one. I don't think it would cost near that much to shore it up and preserve it for another 100 years. I guess it's not a priority if it's on private land and no one can actually access it without permission. Shame.
Cool old bridge Chigg! Congrats on the IHP & War Nickel ✨🤠👍🏻
Burnside Bridge!! lol I know its not but seeing that old bridge and wondering all the things it has seen, wow,,,Thanks for sharing!
It's actually a sister bridge.
@@aquachiggerVery cool! I hate seeing it going to down like that, but what can you do, right?
What a beautiful place; great for communing with nature, history, and looks like prime wading.
You think the city would preserve that bridge since it's so old
Very cool bridge Chig! You find fascinating stuff.
A silver nickle the odds are against finding one of those. Didn't see the recovery of that.
you found Silver! well sort of since 1943 nickels were 35% silver. I have yet to find a silver coin metal detecting. that really is a gorgeous bridge though, its a shame no agency maintained it to keep it from falling apart.
Silver WWII nickel. You found something.
Cool bridge! Where's this at??
Thanks for the Video It’s
Always fun tagging along on your Metal
Detecting River Adventures. And As Always Have a Great Evening😊👍
Nice war nickel, Chigg! 35% silver. :)
You need to set a couple of controlled fires in the wood jam, and burn it all away. Shame to see that bridge in such bad condition. It seems a great project for the Army Corp of Engineers, give them a ring..
shame that historical bridge is just being left to fall down. at least you got to expirience it while it was still there.
Ain't no doubt about it: Chig is a Charmer. :)
Could that 1943 nickle be valuable as a wartime coin ?
It's a war nickel, so it's 35% silver. You can tell for sure because war nickels have a large mint mark above Monticello on the reverse.
Loved the old bridge, thanks for the video Chigg.
I think checking the road on both sides leading up to the bridge 50 yards out may yield some other coins. People definitely walked that road leading up to the bridge.
Great video as always. These are so cool to watch. I love when a new one comes out. Any time they do I watch.
What an amazing bridge! Shame it’s being taken back by nature.
Awesome video 🎉
Just think ,whose footsteps you were in today, while walking across the bridge from two hundred years ago.
Best regards from Poland and team #mazurskieposzukiwania
I just found your channel! Loved this! New subscriber…excited to watch your other adventures!
That was an awesome explore of the old bridge and fun water hunt Chiggs. Interesting to see how that bridge was constructed too. Hope when you return that the coins you marked are old. Take care and best regards always.
Chigg,
It looked like there were some big birds high up in a tree across the other side of the bridge.
Were they Buzzards??
What bridge is that and where did it go?
I'd really like to no more about it's history.
Cheers,
Rik Spector
If that's where I think it is, somewhere on the downstream side you will find a Springfield ram rod, or parts thereof. We did some filming there about 20 years ago and my ram rod got stuck in my musket. We decided to shoot it out and filmed it. Didn't make the final cut but it was a once in a lifetime experience! :)
Thanks for bringing us along on the journey!
5 arch and close to you..... ;)
Why was the bridge abandoned?
Sometimes cuz they have built a newer one with two lanes instead of one in a nearby location, or needed to build a newer one that is more reinforced/safer
No prob Chigg.. looking forward to watching
We are all ways waiting for the next hunt
I loved seeing the top of that bridge
Thanks for taking us along to this amazing place
Hey looks like you found a silver war nickel!! 👌
Super silver war nickel Chigg!
I'm not aware of a molting season. They molt when they're ready. Which brings up the lovely concern of why... And is this water safe for me.
Good to see you, sir. Loved your video in the superstition mountains. Love the respect you show for history and the land. Keep it up!
Thank you kindly
Well done Beau. 😁
Gotta get yourself some handy dandy large tweezers for those crack coins! Hate to leave a coin in the river, hey? Mike in sunny Florida
I have hemostats that I use, but hardly ever need them so don't carry them often.
I might have tried using a thin piece of bark or a small twig to wedge the coin out. Maybe used a rock to file down the twig to wedge the coin out.
You sir have come a long way on UA-cam since 2011/12 , I remember watching you back in day when I came home from school years ago
It's truly sad that the bridge isn't maintained. It looks so pretty.
Letting such a handsome and historic bridge rot like that is such a shame!
These hunts make my day. Thank you chig!!!! ❤ these adventures you take each of us on.
One day Chig will find all the money from BD Cooper........right next to a skeleton !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an amazing bridge! Reminds me of the ones we saw in your older videos!
Thats a mother beautiful bridge as Odd Ball would say ! Wish someone could save her for future generations.
woof, woof
did you hear someone found what you have been looking - Kentucky man finds over 700 Civil War-era coins buried in his cornfield
The special 1943 Wartime Nickel you found has more silver than a regular silver dime. Good find🤩
@curvebuster
453 Infrared Nikon P1000 super zoom video's that prove that the earth is Flat. 😮
Howdy CHIGG!! and thanks!😊👍
Love your places & love your videos!! Thank you for sharing!!
Did you check the bricks of the bridge. They pull out the bricks and put the gold 1820 $20.00 coins hidden inside .
Some good finds. Worth going back when the water is clearer.
Ever hear of the channel Below the plains? This Guy Tom Askjem digs privy or out house sites from years ago and finds tons of bottles from the late 1800s to early 1900s was wondering if you ever dug at any old house sites.
Lmao I don't think Chigg likes Lindsey. "My wife's cousin". The way he said that is how I refer to my mother in law , " my wife's mom".
1725 you were soaked lol, then when you crossed the bridge you were bone dry and starting to rain. Editing..lol Nice video
Drop the rusty chain into a bucket of kerosine ( check spelling, its late out ) overnight. It free it up.
Then oil it or not.
Let dry.
Hang it on a wall or whatever suits you.
You didn't find much. But I think this is the first metal detecting video I've seen where they didn't find a coffee can filled with double eagle coins. Hard to believe what people find video after video.
That 1943 nickel is a Philly silver war nickel with 35% silver content.
A stone bridge is still the longest lasting bridge to build
Wish I could buy antique axe/hatchet head from you!!!❤️
💥💥💥💥That big chain. Just sun dry it and spray paint it. See what happens.
BE CAREFUL. THOSE LOGS CAN GET CHA !
dont you find it strange if youve ever noticed that our bodys white blood cells are very similar to Ameobas in shape and movement but im unsure about the size comparison. look it up its something that i noticed not heard anything from anyone else about it tho!
I'm very surprised you haven't got the flesh eating bacteria as much as your in those waters
As it happens, I am completely immune to all brain-eating amoeba due to my head being comprised entirely of dense bone material.
Bridge; its sad a large structure such as that could not live on serving in some other cspacity.
For instance, a driveway to a festival or a really awesome house/estate or even a castle.
Never ceases to amaze me how you seem to find new places to explore among all the modernity. Curious if this was found from your own research or if your in-laws turned you onto the spot. Always happy for you to take us along for the ride! Cheers!
U just gotta get out there and look its a humungus world out there
Google earth helps a lot with this kinda exploring g
DIP THE HEAD OF THAT POINTER IN LIQUID ELECTRICAL TAPE 10 TIMES. IT WON'T AFFECT SENSITIVITY AND WILL NEVER WEAR OUT.
That last piece you found that may have come from a wagon, I have an identical on I found in a creek
Chigg nation on board
@20:24 A war nickel! Note the large P mint mark on the back above Monticello.
it would be great to take a chains saw under the bridge and cut up and haul all the Woody away get a tractor with a front end loader or high lift and an excavator to get the water flow back and the currents could bring a Lot of interesting things down stream
Approximately when was the bridge abandoned and why?
You should try magnet-fishing off of that old bridge!
Yeah! Awesome.
Pert near my stompin grounds. Seems like it would be good.
the bridge looks like the one emmett till was thrown off ? RIP
Brain eating amoebas.....😂🤣
I’m obsessed with this channel
Hi i love to watch u and i will love to go with u sometime God bless old Ky boy Amen
KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK! ...found nothing
He really won’t go under water because of brain eating amoeba 😂
Missed you . Just refound you. Chiigg army.
Dont forget other people have probably searched here also for gold!
Raccoons sometimes leave piles of crayfish shells from a feast
Chig you need to put some tweezers in your hat to crank out the coinage
Will it be pre-civil war silver coins or vapes and I-phones?
very nice....Ole Bridge 😂
wow amazing, very interesting video to watch. greetings from Indonesia 🤝👍🇮🇩🔔🔔🙏
Another great video! Beautiful old bridge! Love finding Indian Head Pennies! Happy hunting and goodluck on the next adventure!
Grab a buddy and a chain saw and clear the log jams.
Where state does he live? Looks beautiful.
Very good content aqua. Greetings from Dominican Republic. Love detecting
