Hey 14 books a month is awesome I wish I could read that fast...if am lucky and in the mood I'll probably have time to read 5 to 6 books ...so don't go to hard on yourself
I think that the cover and name go together for me. It could have a pretty cover, but if the name isn't enticing I still won't pick it up. However, a title is most likely to grab me. Especially since I read a lot of books from the library and I take a book off the shelf based on the title. I think the cover follows the title for me. Is there anyone else who picks up books based on the name?
I definitely grab a book based on the title/cover, although I don't go to the library because once I start reading a book that I like I don't want to give it back. So if the title/cover gets my attention I'll read the synopsis, and if I like the synopsis I'll read a chapter or two to see if I will actually want to read it. So if I find a book that I don't like I will donate it to the library.
Mei Ahh that's cool. I also go to the synopsis as the deciding factor in whether or not I will read a book. And I too, want to own all the books I love, but bookstores where I live don't have much books and shopping online is too damn expensive and impractical for me, so the library is pretty much the only way for me to read a lot. If I fall in love with a library book I will try to buy my own copy though. :)
Just My Thoughts That makes sense! My library has a whole room full of books that are only $1 with no tax, so if I want to go on a book shopping spree I usually go there! It sucks your bookstore(s) don't have a lot of books, and I understand the shopping online part as well. Have you heard of bookoutlet? they have a lot of cheap books and the shipping is very reasonable. if you haven't heard of it, I highly recommend it :D
We're so similar! I read here and there as a kid but not a lot at all, until last summer when I found book tube and since then I haven't stopped reading! Love your vids :)
I prefer e-readers. I read a lot faster on my Kindle than I do with physical books. Plus I can read with it at night in the dark since it has the backlight. It is light and easy to carry.
Omg! I loved The Magic Treehouse series as a kid, other than that I never read as a kid. So glad I read alot today :D Great video, I love learning about other people's reading habits.
So cool you can read about 15 books per month! That's amazing. Just came across your vids last week and I'm completely obsessed! Great content and your voice is comforting. Will continue to watch :-)
yi hang chan Exactly! I used to be an ereader until I found this series called Warriors a LOOONNNGG time ago. It's decently popular and it's just about cats so I thought it would be cool if I read it in the woods right behind my house because it was based around the forest and everything and it was honestly the best. It seemed very real and I don't think I've listened to an ebook since. Right now I look for more nature-y book, like a book set in the forest or jungle. (I'm in 7th grade so don't judge my book choices 😅)
Katsu Thefox try reading the girl who loved tom gordon by stephen king and you won't enter a forest alone. I am currently at the very end but haven't finished it.
Type of books: Paperbacks (occasionally hardbacks) Genres I don't like: sci-fi Genres I like: basically everything (thriller, contemporary, fantasy in particular) Type of reader: ? Basically an organised reader who knows what I'm reading and when Reading speed: 110 pages/ hour generally; between 8 and 15 books per month Weird habits: leaving dust jackets on, listening to piano music to aid concentration, laying upside down. Have you always been a reader? I've been a fairly big reader since I was 2, but really got into it at age 11.
I know this video is old but it's good so... anyway I too leave the jacket on! AND I will go binge buy a bunch of amazing books but seeing them all on my shelf makes me feel rushed and overwhelmed so I straight up leave them in the bags on my shelf haha. I also know what you mean about your mood choosing your next book! That is exactly me. I am a middle school ELA teacher and I love YA..some are annoying but I love most!
After moving abroad, my Kindle has been a life saver. I have a roommate in a one-room tiny apartment, and basically I can't have more than a few books. So being able to read e-books has really helped me. My Kindle has a light, connected to Goodreads, and is super portable. It even fits in my coat pocket or my smaller purse. I will always prefer physical books, but when living abroad with limited space, e-readers are great.
I RELATE TO YOU SO MUCH! I hate reading EBooks, it just doesn't feel right and it hurts my eyes and just omg I agree with everything you said! I hate cracking the spine because just no😭 I feel like I've ruined the book😂
yea, it takes your mind somewhere else and you keep reading but you have to read the same thing again because you weren't paying attention the first time. LOL hahaha
I absolutely LOVE using OverDrive for audiobooks! I also hate ebooks they are honestly so frustrating ugh would it be okay if i did a video like this on my channel?? I absolutely loved this(:
I skim-read books as well! I feel awful doing it, because I am basically spoiling the book for myself, but I get really anxious and want to know what is going to happen! Then, after having been mentally prepared, I go back and actually read it, word-for-word.
I am a big audiobook person because I can listen to them for roughly half my day at work. It's good to hear I'm not the only one that feels like it's hard to go back to a physical copy of a book! It's hard to clear my mind being used to multi tasking and reading to ONLY reading the physical copy
I am also a fast reader. A weird habit of mine is that I count how many pages a chapter has and place the book mark at the end. I would normally read at least 10 books a month which makes me really happy.
Omg, I feel the same about UK vs. international paperbacks! I'm from the UK, and didn't realise the difference until I moved to study abroad in the US and love how the paperbacks in the US stay open
I am fine with ebooks but I cannot stand audio books (Sorry). I definitely do judge books by their covers, however, prefer to read the summary before I purchase it or check it out.
I wish I could read as fast as you if you consider 6 books a month to be bad! Obviously everyone is different with their reading speeds and it's a personal thing, but even 6 is quite impressive for me! I also do the same thing around exam time - I stop reading just to focus on my studying, and then once it's over I get back into books. It could just be me, but when I'm so busy and stressed with other things, I'm not in the right mind-set for reading and I'm scared of ruining good books because of it. Anyway, a great video! It was so interesting to hear about your reading process - I love hearing stuff like this about people's routines, people don't discuss them enough :)
Same! :) I just really like feeling a book in my hands, I like the smell of books. It's amazing :D For me physical books really add to my reading experience. I hate cracking the back to, it looks really bad on my bookshelves. I prefer reading hard backs though.
I try to read one book a week because I get a lot of school work and I'm busy with volleyball 🏐 and that doesn't leave me much time and I normally read 100 pages a day and I used to read 200 a day but I'm ok with that. As long as I meat my goodreadsgoal
I feel the same way about e-readers, I have a kindle and I still have not read the books that I have on that. I also like paperback books too as they are lighter to carry around. I do have a few hard cover books.
I love ebooks because I travel a lot for fun and for my job. It's perfect for that, because I can't take 5 books with me everywhere. But I do love the physical books, so if I like the book I have to have it in my bookshelf. Which is quite expensive.. but working at a publishing house does have it's perks in that regard :)
I don’t mind paperback books because they’re cheaper. I’m good with taking care of My books so not an issue. But hardcover is amazing, feels like a real book so precious
Wow I wish I had time to get through 20 books a month! Thats incredible! This was really fun to watch and compare my reading habits to. Im glad Im not the only one who listens to soundtracks when I read.
I just started getting into YA especially fantasy YA. Other than that I am still into middle grade books or juvenile books. I am also going to try and read the audiobook of Hamilton.
I'm the same way when it comes to skimming the last 100 pages, I get too excited and want to find out what happens. And I also keep the dust jacket on lol.
I'm not the biggest e-book reader as well. I love huge floppy paperbacks ...like The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy is the best floppy paperback and I love it so much because of that. When I was younger I used to have problems sleeping and then my dad got me used to listening to audiobooks when I went to sleep which eventually led me into getting my sleeping habits back to normal so now whenever I try listening to audiobooks for a long period of time I automatically start feeling very drowsy and even fall asleep...which is a bummer :P . Do you like reading translated words and seeing how it affects the way the language is used ( if that makes sense)? I read The Elegance of The Hedgehog a while back and I loved how you could tell that the book was originally written in French. There was just something about the language and the vocabulary that was used.
I also can't read while listening to music with lyrics! Or when I'm in the living room and someone is watching TV while I'm reading... I usually listen to classical music while reading, though at night it'll make you very sleepy haha... Movie soundtracks sound good! Never thought about that but sounds like a great option to listen to while reading :D
I thought I was the only person who kept the dust jackets on while reading haha, glad to see I'm not alone! I love looking at and petting the covers after I stop reading lol
Personally, I cannot stick reading ebooks as I prefer holding a physical copy and also, I read before bed so I find going on things like an IPad wakes me up as I have trouble sleeping so I prefer having a physical copy. P.S. - Thinking about doing more Booktubey videos as I am inspired by your channel!!!
Hey Hails. Thanks for this great video. I listen to audiobooks the majority of the time, since I am visually impaired. I tend to get headaches when I try to physically read something for a long time. I have a subscription to Audible.com, and I also pick up digital audiobooks from a Web site from the Library of Congress Talking Book Topics program. They have a Web site for anyone with a print related disability called the BARD, or the Braille audio reading database. They have volunteers, who will donate their time to read out loud a book word for word, and then I will go onto their Web site, search for a book, download it onto my computer, and then transfer it onto a flash drive, and then hook it up on a special player that I have and then I am good to go. I usually try to listen to 3 chapters a day. I also purchase manga for my eReader on my ipad. I also have a scanner and reader, that I use to scan textbooks for my massage continuing education classes.
Forget skimming the last 100 pages. I have this nasty habit of reading the last few pages before I even start a book as I am that impatient. I do try to stop myself doing this, but it's a habit I've had since childhood so it's very difficult.
I personally prefer audiobooks to ebooks, especially when I'm in bed about to sleep. There's less strain on my eyes and I just prefer the voice of someone else reading. Helps me pay attention more
Get yourself a CD of John Williams film scores! He is seriously the best composer for film scores! He did the first Harry Potter and heaps of other really famous film scores. You will love him!! (great video BTW!! I love watching your videos!) ❤️
I like ebooks because I can't physically see how much of a book I have yet to read. I get extremely demotivated, especially for classical books, and it happens that I stop reading. That's why I like reading physical books that I am extremely excited about and reading ebooks for every roman litterature book that I need to read. I have ebooks on my tablet so it's easier to read it on the road :) Because I am majoring in roman linguistics, sometimes, if I own a physical book ofc, I write translations of unknown words in a book. Does anyone else does that? But I hate it when I check out a book from a library and there are writings in it...
Paperback is the greatest. Hardcover is awful. Doesn't feel good to hold, the sleeve/cover moves too much and you're better off removing it. Sometimes they are too tall. Paperback is the way to go.
i can't have the dust jacket on when i read a hardcover, cuz i carry books to my job (and i wait tables, it's not good for books, carry them around with me, have a cat that bugs me, am prone to dropping books, so i keep the dust jackets at home, one to keep them in good shape, and 2, to hold the books place on my shelf.
When I was younger I hated reading too and what's funny is that now that I think about it it might've been because I didn't want to be like my older sister (she LOVES to read) either hahaha
Omg nooooo, i didn't realise that was a UK thing my dad has a Dune book that's US and literally today i was holding it saying how great it felt all floppy and no cracks in the spine! Didn't realise it was just because of where it's from :( damn it Britain!
I'm only a judge a book by its cover person if I'm at the library. Otherwise I just research books and get whatever synopsis I like, I know it's strange, I'm sorry!
The thing with me is that I don't want to buy any book in paper back because I don't like it. I don't like the feel of it and everything. It could crumple overtime or by reading it and it just looks ugly afterwards and I don't like that. That's kind of like a problem for me because hard cover books are expensive af. But nothing can stop me from reading in my hardcovers. Lol
I feel like I relate so much! I wish I read as fast as you though! So jealous! And I love movie sound Tracts and I agree about reading classics for school and then reading YA for fun. But yeah I fee like the YA is getting juvenile and it’s so sad because the adult books just aren’t as fun, and super serious, or too adulty hahahahaha. And yes I love keeping the dust jacket! I should take it off because I damage them haha. Also what do you want to do with your major? Also everyone gets into a slump and reads for moods, but your slump is reading peaks haha.
Hi! great video! I totally judge a book by the cover too because as you said it's the first thing that you see, that'll grab your intrest and make you curious about the content, If a book has an ugly cover then unless someone I know really loves it, I'm not gonna be interested. also I'm kinda ashamed to say but I have a tendency to skim through the book when I can't wait to see what happens (I'm impatient too) sometimes I even go through the 2nd and the 3rd book of the trilogy but I keep the book on my currently reading list if I don't go back immediately to read it all (that's why I have 20 books in that pile :p)
Your videos are always fabulous! I like ebooks but physical books are my favorite. Have you read Also Known As by Robin Benway? It is a really good book and it is hilarious! If you want a quick and fast read, I recommend it!
I totally skim-read the last 100pages and go back to read it again🤣 always makes me feel really guilty though. Haha. It never occurred to me u can take the dust jacket while reading then put it back on lol.
How do you read so fast? 20 books is a lot in a month (really that's awesome), do you have any tips to read faster? I'm guessing you have lot of practice due to reading so frequently, but your speed is great!
Wait... Are you form America or UK? Cause you have UK editions but American accent. Excuse me if I think that every UK people have an accent. I have never been there so I don't actually know!
Hails Hearts Nyc I noticed!! I'm soooo sorry!! I think Canadians don't have the credit they deserve. I don't know why didn't a thought about it!! Love u
I have to take the dust jacket off lol, I hate the feeling of the dust jacket when im reading
Same here🖐
same and your name is my life
me too!!
same!
I definitely judge a book by its cover! If I don't like the cover and the feel, I don't read it! 🤷🏽♀️
I LOVE the sound of a "cracky" page. When you flip it and the paper does that nice cracky calming sound. If that makes sense
Clary Piriz I feel the same as you
READING 6 BOOKS IS REALLY BAD??!!??! I read a maximum of 3 books a month!!
+Cornelia Sundberg
saaame here ✋
Cornelia Sundberg LMAO SAMEE
Cornelia Sundberg if I finish one a month that's impressive for me
i read about 3 a week hehe
I read between 3-6 books a month myself!
Hey 14 books a month is awesome I wish I could read that fast...if am lucky and in the mood I'll probably have time to read 5 to 6 books ...so don't go to hard on yourself
Maribel Cruz Haha thanks! It's just how I am with reading and trying to get that darn tbr pile down! :P
i love how humble you are, like, in the beggining you were so honest about the youtuber that gave you inspiration to do this video.
I keep the dust jacket on too! I've always thought I was weird, but it really irks me to not have the cover.
Jess Kidding Glad it's not just me!!!
omg. ur the 1st person who likes paperbacks! u found a new sub
The floppy type ofcourse cause even i hate cracking spines
ooooommmmmmgggggg. we both are soo similar. even is skim read and stuff. I do the exact same thing as you do
Same with me I prefer paperback too and I was thinking I was weird LOL
I love paperbacks sooo much
I think that the cover and name go together for me. It could have a pretty cover, but if the name isn't enticing I still won't pick it up. However, a title is most likely to grab me. Yaritza Jimenez Oh cool. Nice to hear from someone who does the same. :)
I definitely grab a book based on the title/cover, although I don't go to the library because once I start reading a book that I like I don't want to give it back. I prefer e-readers. I read a lot faster on my Kindle than I do with physical books. Plus I can read with it at night in the dark since it has the backlight. It is light and easy to carry.
Please do a video explaining the different book genres...like what is contemporary and what is realistic fiction?
I have a reading playlist on spotify too ^^ I listen to the movie soundtracks of my favorites book to movie adaptations usually
Meet the world that's awesome!!
I need to have a physical book in my hands too💓💓💓
I judge a book more on it's spine
Omg! I loved The Magic Treehouse series as a kid, other than that I never read as a kid. So glad I read alot today :D Great video, I love learning about other people's reading habits.
I love listening to the instrumental soundtracks to movies! My favorites are Finding Nemo, Marley and Me, and Harry Potter :)
I completely agree with your floppy paperbacks! They're my favorite books to read, but no so much to collect haha. You gained a new subscriber! :)
So cool you can read about 15 books per month! That's amazing. Just came across your vids last week and I'm completely obsessed! Great content and your voice is comforting. Will continue to watch :-)
Omg I hate ereaders with a passion they take the joy out of holding a physical book
yeah...holding a physical book and read is the best feeling of the WORLD💎💎
yi hang chan
Exactly!

I feel the same about eReaders, I love holding a book and the smell of the pages is one of my favourite things, can't do that with a machine!
I RELATE TO YOU SO MUCH! I hate reading EBooks, it just doesn't feel right and it hurts my eyes and just omg I agree with everything you said! I hate cracking the spine because just no😭 I feel like I've ruined the book😂

I love floppy paperbacks!!! And the scholastic paperbacks are the worst! They don't want to stay open!
Same. I opened one and the cover immediately bent. I loved the book, but not the format.
Personally, I cannot stick reading ebooks as I prefer holding a physical copy and also, I read before bed so I find going on things like an IPad wakes me up as I have trouble sleeping so I prefer having a physical copy. I read to the "Outlander" soundtrack. It's sooo good.
That's really cool that the book " love letters to the death" has the same cover in germany 😍

Totally agree with you about listening to movie soundtracks! Thought that was just me being weird! 😊
Yes, I judge a book by its cover as well
Get yourself a CD of John Williams film scores! He is seriously the best composer for film scores! He did the first Harry Potter and heaps of other really famous film scores. You will love him!! (great video BTW!! I love watching your videos!) ❤️
I always keep the dust jacket on except my new Harry Potter ones...they are too beautiful to touch! Haha.
I like ebooks because I can't physically see how much of a book I have yet to read. I get extremely demotivated, especially for classical books, and it happens that I stop reading. That's why I like reading physical books that I am extremely excited about and reading ebooks for every roman litterature book that I need to read. I have ebooks on my tablet so it's easier to read it on the road :)
Because I am majoring in roman linguistics, sometimes, if I own a physical book ofc, I write translations of unknown words in a book.
I feel the same about the fantasy genre!! Btw I loved this vid!
Arzoo Momin Thank you!!!!
i can't have the dust jacket on when i read a hardcover, cuz i carry books to my job (and i wait tables, it's not good for books, carry them around with me, have a cat that bugs me, am prone to dropping books, so i keep the dust jackets at home, one to keep them in good shape, and 2, to hold the books place on my shelf.
you should check out this book called I Will Always Write Back. Its about real life pen pals. its so good❤❤
2019 anyone?
When I was younger I hated reading too and what's funny is that now that I think about it it might've been because I didn't want to be like my older sister (she LOVES to read) either hahaha
Omg nooooo, i didn't realise that was a UK thing my dad has a Dune book that's US and literally today i was holding it saying how great it felt all floppy and no cracks in the spine! Didn't realise it was just because of where it's from :( damn it Britain!
I don't think it's strictly a UK thing haha. I think it depends on the publishers.
I hate cracking the spines of my books. It makes me really frustrated when I'm reading.
I am really impatient too if I have 100 pages left I have to read it one sitting xxx
I'm starting college in the fall and I'm wondering if you have tips for a future english major. You could probably make a whole video on that
Jeycareadsbook I think I may do a video on that!
That'd be really helpful.
Lol
What website do you listen to your audiobooks on? I love your page ❤️
My favourite thing to do is to read Harry Potter and listen to the soundtrack of the movies xd
I feel the same about e readers but I prefer hardcovers
I love you, we have a same reading process. you are awesome.
loved this`! x
Hi! great video!
Naila Be I think more people skim than really admit to it haha!
"My lifes a mess" this statement made me giggle so much more than it should have XD
Your videos are always fabulous! I like ebooks but physical books are my favorite.
Have you read Also Known As by Robin Benway? It is a really good book and it is hilarious! If you want a quick and fast read, I recommend it!
randomfreckles1831 Thank you!! I haven't, I'll have to check it out!
This was a really cool video! I marvel at your reading speed. I'm lucky if I can read six books a month!
I totally skim-read the last 100pages and go back to read it again🤣 always makes me feel really guilty though. Haha. It never occurred to me u can take the dust jacket while reading then put it back on lol.
I hate scholastic paperbacks too
Politely, can I ask - how do you LIVE?! I wish I could read 15 books a month... what else do you do in your spare time? :D Love your channel.
How do you read so fast? 20 books is a lot in a month (really that's awesome), do you have any tips to read faster? I'm guessing you have lot of practice due to reading so frequently, but your speed is great!
20 books a month???!!!! OMG I just read 2 or 3... I'm so jealous
Oh my gosh me too! I thought I was the only one!!! I feel so much better.
