Brilliant video Jeremy! I can't believe I missed this one. Every part of this was extremely helpful! I also want to thank you for the bonus content! Keep up the excellent work!
youre welcome Thanks for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it. Yes whenever we go over something that I think I could make into a video that doesn’t step on Chris’s channel I do otherwise I’m posting other things as well that I’m working on.
Enjoying this whilst recovering in hospital. You made my day a lot more interesting. Been meaning to get into Barry for too long now. Thank's man. Nice feel btw
Thanks. When I'm home, if you're interested, I'll put up a chart from a different tune that uses the same chord sequence. It's from a live Chet Baker recording, wrongly titled as Resonant Emotions (a different tune altogether) it has a nice bop feel.
@@RexLancasterthat question comes up with chris -he says stuff like “it depends what the accompanying player is doing” or “see if it sounds good” but ultimately barry always plays the dom scale associated with it if u think of it as a C9 and he uses min6thdim scale to solo on tonic or pure minors mostly is my understanding-especially if u have a couple bars of a minor chord… but loop it and try-i mean its gonna be like playing the ii on the V but with the added notes of Gm6dim scale not found in Gdorian-but as far as i know ow barry doesn’t do that according to chris
hey, thanks for watching. I think you’re talking about the kind of worn out. Looking faded black one not the one in the beginning the one later in the video that has turquoise snaps yeah that’s that’s a lucky brand shirt back when lucky made really good stuff in the 90s when they were more of a boutique brand before they became a mass mall brand. I have a few others. You’ll probably see one in particular that I don’t wear very often because I’m afraid it’s gonna wear out it’s a really cool western shirt too- it has a corduroy yolk, and it also has turquoise with gold surround buttons anyways you got good taste brother.
Great job and just sub’d….Chris’s channel is awesome but he loses me and many others pretty quick…..I appreciate your good explanations and gearing it towards learning intermediate players who need some things really spelled out clearly…….many thanks!
hey thnks brother! really appreciate it 🙏btw im underwater half the time in my live classes with chris but hes a gifted teacher snd he has a no-child-left-behind mentality when it comes to trying to kerp dopes like afloat!
Awesome lesson, and instant subscribe. One question - when you keep referring to "Barry Harris' scales" or "these are Barry's scales to play over this" are you referring to a book somewhere or some other media? IOW, can you point me to the original source? Been trying to unlock this tune for years! Thank you!
thnx for watching! and subbing! well, my original source was Chris Parks’ @thingivelearnedfrombarryharris channel and still is. However, an online jazz school called @openstudio tapped him to teach their guitar curriculum-specifically for his Barry Harris expertise. So while he may have BFA covered on his channel - you should look there first- we are working on blues for Alice in class right now so i literally shared the scale outline he taught us. I study with Chris five days a week live one hour classroom sessions on zoom and it’s pretty overwhelming the amount of information that he has stored up in his gigantic berry Harris filled brain.
aw man thnx brother yeah, it makes it worthwhile when guys like you take the time to say something nice hell I even appreciate comments that aren’t positive. I just appreciate people watching and taking the time to comment but especially like positive feedback man. Thanks for watching bro!!
Jeremy it’s you ol’ Aussie mate Jerry here from Open Studio. Great channel and super awesome content. I love your Jeremy versus Jazz UFC style name too mate. Awesome playing too Jeremy you’ve been shedding mate. Well done keep em coming coz you’re ripping the cock right off this stuff mate. Cheers.
Jez, (may I call you Jez, it’s a Brit thing for Jeremy), finally someone who thinks about guitar improv like me!!! Fe@k tab!! Call the change and give me an outside scale/sound (and why it works!)! awesome work! PS, we know how long it took you, you wore 12 outfits and 36 guitars! 😂 Subbed ten times! Chris.
I was going to Lear blues for Alice. I only have the real book and it kind of sucks. It had me playing an A-7 instead of an F-7 on the wave song by Tom Jobin. This was a cool video. Alway cool to see what you up to. I learned all this just have to learn the tune. Not what you’re teach but the Barry land stuff. Lol
whats the “two piece?” also, it’s a free country brother and i appreciate your opinion and thanks for taking the time to post a comment. I didn’t find it rude. I don’t like jazz all the time or id be a lot better at it. It can get really self-indulgent. But i do dig barry harris’ concept cuz he balks at a lot of music school rules and his scale outlines for tunes help me enjoy the struggle of improvising more. 👊
Hi. thnx for taking the time to comment. If you’re saying my playing of “that piece” ie the head to Blues for Alice, “sounds like shit” then i agree! i think i was out of tune which is why i cut it abruptly and joked about it. If you’re saying that the peace in general, including Charlie Parker‘s original version and anyone else who plays a version of it sounds like shit because he just don’t like the piece then I disagree, but you are, of course entitled to your opinion. It is a free country and I appreciate all comments, thanks again for watching!
"craptastic?." Dude you had me laughing throughout. GREAT video, Jeremy!!

thnk u brother! 🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing this. Big fan of tilfbh as well. Appreciate the sharing of the work from openstudio sessions. More please
youre welcome

aw brother thnk u for sharing that! i hope your recovery is speedy and smooth. i know all about being in hospitals. cheers! 🙏🙏

I know it's only 2 beats, but could the Em7b5 also be seen as a Gm6 enabling use of the m6dim scale?

thank u sensei! u honor me!🙏🙏
Great explanation of Barry's concepts! And always entertaining!
thnks brother!!🙏🙏
What western shirt are you wearing? I've never seen one with blue/turquoise buttons before.

Get the Charlie Parker omnibook for c instruments. I think it’s truer to form and you get some solo choruses to learn/analyze
what stringity said!
I have to get a Charlie Parker greatest git’s book or something . Do you have a favorite jazz musician you like studying more than the others ?
nope. right now i just do what chris parks tells me to do!
What the f#@% did I just watch
well, thanks for watching but the more important question was right after I posted it “what the fuck did I just post” lol
not to be rude, but this seems like a lot of fuss over music people ask the two piece to turn down at a semi-fancy restaurant.

@@peterkelly8357no idea.
Then y you here fussin
Honestly: that piece sounds like shit. :-( So I don't bother if it's hard to play.
