It's astonishing that the French have the ability to build such beautiful monuments which are very often real landmarks. Thank you to France for this magnificent gift which is in the heart of every American today!
You didn't mention a forgotten and funny fact: eons ago the statue began to show signs of weakness: its structure was bending from the inside. Noticeably, the internal structure was designed back then by Gustave Eiffel, the man behind the Eiffel Tower. Immediately the US press began what they do the best after praising the french for no good reason: smearing the same damn french who never do things properly and suck at everything. So the Eiffage company (current french construction giant and heir of the Gustave Eiffel's constuction company) was sent in NY, with the original plans, to check out what went wrong. ...That's when they discovered around a third of the rivets were simply missing. As in: they were not there although they should have. After a rapid investigation, it appeared the local contractor who originally built the structure, in order to save petty money, had not installed all the rivets and sold them as scrap metal. The statue's stability problems, amplified by the german sabotage of Ellis island in 1916, as well as its inaccessibility, all come from this. Despite this shameful display, lady Liberty still stands strong on her feet. Probably by sheer arrogance. A testimony of her french heritage I guess.
I remember being told that story by my French/British Parisian grand mother whom's mother , my great grand mother never forgave the US for disparaging the french after being offered a magnificent present , and until her last breath she never agreed to entertain american dignitaries in her parisian hotel particulier or at her French Brittany Chateau (she was very old french and Russian aristocracy) or even participate to any formal or informal events held in favour of Americans and made sure her absence was more noticeable and more felt than anybody else's attendance . She loathed Americans with a passion, it was apparently almost comical . Uninterestingly enough , i was born and partially raised in Arizona from a French British and Russian mother and a Danish Icelandic father , and my great grand mother told my mother that if i was to keep the american citizenship i would never be on her will and would not get a penny by the time i turned 18 . Fortunately and for other reasons , i renounced officially my american citizenship when i was 16 and took the Icelandic one, (a country i visited constantly in my youth and have always considered home) . My grand mother lived in NY for a while due to her husband's businesses in the US when she was quite young . And being forced to remain in the US for as long as her husband did some trading there , she felt extremely lonely , and often told me that she compared herself to the statue, a french dame, forced in exil and even had long conversations with her (in french of course, it is all in her diary of monologues with Lady Liberty, or should i say , Son journal de monologues avec Dame Liberte). So for me this statue is like an old relative of the family (that didn't sound so pretentious in my head), i heard so much about, long before making her acquaintance . And even today every time i find myself in NY for work, i always have some french words for her . And my great grand father signed 6500 francs (a fortune in those days) in bonds to help finance the construction of the lady of Paris (as he called her referring to the Statue of Liberty ) and met Mister Bartholdi and especially mister Eiffel on several occasions. But this was nothing compared to what my great great grand father did , He was on the board of shareholders of the STE , the Societe de la Tour Eiffel and spend over 30 000 francs on the project. Mister Eiffel was just called Gustave when he visited and Valentine Eiffel (his daughter) and my great grand mother were childhood friends. So, though i am not French and not planning on getting french citizenship any time soon, i am particularly fond of these two monuments which are a testimony of France's true magnificence and legacy, its engineering achievements and its libertarian values.

@@mattruth3843 this has nothing to do with any conspiracy theory. The windows were restored during the early 1980s restoration. At least some of them could open.

Needless to say it wasn't good for my mental state at the time. My old man, a WII ex-Marine was definitely on the crazy side. Today he would have been arrested for that stunt. Well, today the windows are there. I am sure the windows were put there to prevent idiotic things from happening.
Fun fact: this wonderful lady is getting a sister although she will be much smaller & will stay on the grounds of the French embassy for 10 years thank you again for the wonderful gift my French friends Side Note: At least this one will be much easier to visit because visiting the original is a Nightmare
Since it no longer happens now where one country builds a monument for another country... why did France build this for America? Is it to stick it to the British? What was this big friendship between France and USA that would warrant such a huge undertaking? Also for such a friendly gesture, I don’t hear modern Americans talking about France nowadays... so I’m a little confused.
It was to honor France becoming allies with the Continental Army during the American Revolution. France played a huge role in helping the Colonists win the war.
Modern Americans don't care about France. The fact that it was originally from us is probably an awkward fact (the few Americans who are aware of its origins) have to deal with.
The Statue of Liberty Arrived at Bedloe's Island June 19, 1885 In order to transport the statue to America, the figure was disassembled into 350 pieces and packed in 214 crates. Four months later, it was reassembled on Bedloe's Island (renamed Liberty Island in 1956). On October 28, 1886, President Grover Cleveland dedicated the Statue of Liberty before thousands of spectators. But millions more would meet "Lady Liberty" in a different way.
Bartholdi’s working title was “Egypt bringing light to Asia” and was intended for Port Said, at the Northern End of the Suez Canal When that fell through, Bartholdi repurposed the statue to depict a Roman goddess “Libertas” Brits need to check their history
fun fact the statue was supposed to be a gift to Egypt as the opening of the Suez cannel and would be at the start of the cannel bur Egypt declined it so the statue go re designed and given to USA
INTERESTING FACTS Metal produced at Ekaterinburg’s plants was used in construction of the most famous architectural structures and buildings around the world. For example, the very first English industrial machines were made of iron produced in the Urals. In 1820, roofing iron made in Ekaterinburg was used to cover the roof of the English Parliament in London. Ural steel was used in construction of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and Ural copper was used in construction of the Statue of Liberty in New York.
Well this greenish color is given by the chemical reaction of copper in contact with the air actually when the coat is quite strong then it protected the structure much better from oxidation

The french helped america become america. History shows when you were a 3% you got helped by the french to get them an win independence they saw our strength even with our small numbers too help.
Those days of Freedom, Justice, and Liberty are long gone... sad to say...
Yup. Blm and antifa would tear it down if they could. They're scum.
I know Lady Liberty has become a symbol of accepting the "huddled masses", but isn't it more of a beacon of freedom shining to the world? Look, see what you can accomplish.
Okay?
Not so quick: ua-cam.com/video/TOquOm0Wlik/v-deo.html
As gorgeous as she is with the oxidized copper in green, I've always found it so ironic that color photography didn't come into play until after she turned color. I would kill to see what that copper version of her looked like....
Awesomely done and superbly presented!!! Great, thx for your effort!
How do you research all this? Wanna make an episode on that? ;-)
Did he mention this? ua-cam.com/video/TOquOm0Wlik/v-deo.html
Every statue of liberty are signed reproductions of the first prototype made by Bartholdi, include the NY statue. The first signed statue of liberty by Bartholdi in the America´s, was first inaugurated in Buenos Aires Argentina, 25 days before than NY statue. We made a video about this.
Very interesting , informative , The fund raising , the effort to reality , Great Vid , and yes I have subscribed . Thanks .
Wow I honestly had no idea that Lady Liberty was related to the Eiffel Tower! It is so painfully obvious now that I think about it though.
Yes, you are right. Symbols of USA and France are linked/related.
I learn More on this video than I did in school about the Statue of Liberty
That means you haven't learned anything, because that was supposed to represent liberty Legality Fraternity
and I don't see anything like in America
So when did they put in the windows in the crown? I remember seeing old photos and television commercials in the 60’s where people were leaning out the crown openings with their arms resting on her hairline
Barton Percival Nikola Tesla John G Trump Donald Trump. UA-cam search those three names together!!!!!!!
Oh and Then after you search the 3 names together. Search Madella Effect. I must admit something very strange accrued between 2012 and 2016
@@mattruth3843 this has nothing to do with any conspiracy theory. The windows were restored during the early 1980s restoration. At least some of them could open.
When I was six years old I went into the crown with my father and mother. My father actually grabbed me by the ankles and held me out the crown. Needless to say it wasn't good for my mental state at the time. My old man, a WII ex-Marine was definitely on the crazy side. Today he would have been arrested for that stunt. Well, today the windows are there. I am sure the windows were put there to prevent idiotic things from happening.
Aaron Chesler I like your story🇮🇪😆
I looked this up out of curiosity and I'm glad I did
The feeling when you realize that construction workers were part of something bigger than you ever will be with you university degree.
Fun fact: this wonderful lady is getting a sister although she will be much smaller & will stay on the grounds of the French embassy for 10 years thank you again for the wonderful gift my French friends
Side Note: At least this one will be much easier to visit because visiting the original is a Nightmare
Fun fact: Fun fact is normie
Thank you for a very informative video.
great videos!
The Statue of Liberty Arrived at Bedloe's Island
June 19, 1885
In order to transport the statue to America, the figure was disassembled into 350 pieces and packed in 214 crates. Four months later, it was reassembled on Bedloe's Island (renamed Liberty Island in 1956). On October 28, 1886, President Grover Cleveland dedicated the Statue of Liberty before thousands of spectators. But millions more would meet "Lady Liberty" in a different way.
So what about the star fort it's built upon, has been there way before they put up the statue. If I'm wrong show me a video of them building it.
Video was not around in 1886.(lol) Go there and take the tour and see for yourself. There are also photos of the building process in books and on-line.
The video actually says it's built on Fort Wood, which already occupied the site.
Philip Meers and yet does NOT mention star forts, hmm, wonder why?
Gary L look at them more critically and you will see discrepancies in the story.
@@GFSLombardo photography was clearly around, yet no images just cartoon. Drawings
damn the end shot looked so pretty.
7:48 Does anyone know what news station uses this background song? I have 100% heard it before on wheater segments or something. I need to know!

Bilkul sahi kaha brother David you are great brother jiyo dil se
Bartholdi’s working title was “Egypt bringing light to Asia” and was intended for Port Said, at the Northern End of the Suez Canal
When that fell through, Bartholdi repurposed the statue to depict a Roman goddess “Libertas”
Brits need to check their history
You did well to bring us information though dropped the ball at the end and made yourself look an idiot, impressive.
Eugenio Robinson tf what does this have to do with the UK
Rupert Prawnworthy Yes, he did
I've been watching your videos for a while. It's nice to finally put a face to the voice.
I remember walking those stairs when I was just a little girl. I thought I would never reach the top.
fun fact the statue was supposed to be a gift to Egypt as the opening of the Suez cannel and would be at the start of the cannel bur Egypt declined it so the statue go re designed and given to USA
Great video
Great video
The skeleton was constructed by the Norwegian Joachim Gotsche Giæver and the copper for the Statue of Liberty came from Norway as well
It's all staged, we're all in the Truman show.
Beautiful icon
*LADY LIBERTY 7 POINTED CROWN, STANDING ON 11 POINTED STAR*
OMG! And if you add those numbers together, you get 666!!! And 666 backwards is 33! Illuminati confirmed!

1:13 he looks like Rhett from Good mythical morning.
Just gorgeous
not one picture of them building the statue on the original star fort. just drawings.
I said that exactly, and there was too many cartoons when photography was available. Total bullshit
You make a better video then? rather than just moan do something proactive?
@@rupertprawnworthy758 r/woosh that shit went right over your head bruh
@@backhandthings4942 They are an idiot, but you used r/woooosh wrong.
Well this greenish color is given by the chemical reaction of copper in contact with the air actually when the coat is quite strong then it protected the structure much better from oxidation
YOU'RE GIVING AN AMERICAN HISTORY LESSON STOP USING METERS. AT ALL. DAMN.
@Black.Flaps .Dont.Match Shut up you limey fuck, no one cares about your shitty country anymore
Surely it is also a French history lesson, and they invented the modern metric system.
Love all the videos, thank you for making them, I'm slowly watching 1 every few days, and will order a cup or two for support.

The statue was suppose to be of a black woman. The real one is in St.Martin.
Thank god she's isn't her ass would've been huge and very inappropriate
That's a myth, idk where all these people got it from
Yup and person didn't know what a white women looked like 😂
You've forgot, there's another statue looking like the liberty. The Statue is called Bavaria, stands in Munic on the Theresienwiese and is a sister to Liberty.
Well The Ottoman actually financed the statue. at least a part of it.
this is a great video to me
Imagine if terrorists targeted the Statue of Liberty;
It would be a truly disgusting act. Honestly I'm surprised that no one has done this yet, and I hope no one ever will.
I'm not so sure she stands so proudly for freedom and democracy anymore.
Great and highly enlightening, thanks
