James, you can't please everyone, you can't fix everything, so enjoy what you're doing. You did a great job explaining something that should have been obvious.
I'm over here not caring when the events happened, just the fact that I can live vicariously through some one else, because my current situation doesn't allow for me to just get a boat and leave everything behind me. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
"Vicariously" is the BEST word. I watch a few sailing channels and 'AlluringArctic' recently published his video filmed during Christmas, 3 months after the fact. So what. This stuff is 'Inspirational'; another complimentary word/characterization. Don't stop providing content!
Totally agree. The 'living vicariously' aspect of it means that content doesn't have to be in 'real-time'. Good content always shines. I for one have certain channels and videos that I will re-watch because I enjoyed that content. Social media 'right here, right now' aspect is killing the 'art & creative' aspect of sharing great content. 😄
I don’t care if your video was shot three hours ago or six months ago. I’m just happy that you’ve allowed us to journey with you. Your videos are well shot and well edited. You keep doing what you do well, and we’ll stay on the journey with you as long as you choose to keep doing it.
Good solid explanation -- not that you actually owed me or anyone an explanation... I'm probably one of those 9-min folks... I'll usually scan sailing vids for 3-4 minutes during the week (coffee breaks, lunch time at work, etc.), then tag them and binge-watch later... usually in the evenings and weekends... You allow those of us that are tethered to our desks, to share your adventure... thanks.
We love your channel James Don’t let the weirdo’s rain on your parade Your adventure has us waiting patiently for every episode we were sad when your marriage didn’t work out,we were scared on your journey to Hawaii buy yourself and Ecstatic when you reached land Thank you for sharing the up and downs of sailing We wish you all the Best Stay Safe and Happy Your The Best💕
I have always known and understood this. That people could get mad or nasty is a pretty poor example of our society. You really do a great job. When you consider that you are on a “shoestring” budget and yet have such a squared away vessel and just seem to do so well with all this is what I like the most. Any very wealthy person can take some lessons and buy a million dollar cat, lots of video equipment and have a channel. Not to many can do what you do. My Alberg 35 was very similar to your boat “ but about 30% bigger. Again, you do very well and deserve a much bigger viewership.
Yeah that’s why I didn’t cut corners on the refit when I had a day job back in LA, so living on less would be possible. I don’t need much to be happy and comfortable, which also makes my life easier.
Hi James, I really like the tracking on Predict wind. You add so many details in your stories that when I watch on UA-cam it looks like I'm repeating an episode. Thanks for doing that!
I say keep producing the vids as you like them. I think you’re doing a great job at being a sailor AND a video producer. Keep up the good work and safe travels.
Thanks! Every video is enjoyed and shared in this house - and often forwarded to friends of like mind. Your films are a great getaway from the daily grind here on land. Keep filming and sharing your story.
Hey David thanks for contributing to James to help keep him going. Some of us would like to but can’t afford to. You help keep this going so we can live vicariously through James journeys. Thanks again 👍
_James, I been watching your videos since day 1. You have an amazing channel, I really love watching your episodes every week. Thanks for all those amazing videos.!_
Thank you for the honest video. It does take a rigid discipline to consistently post new episodes. The more channels I watch (and the more I see failing), I realize it takes up a lot of time and energy. And indeed, there is no way pleasing everyone.
For me James its how you show all the different aspects of your journey, ups and downs, nothing sugar coated. The scenes are brilliant. Living here in Scotland it brightens up our cold weather. Keep up good work and thanks.
I grew up watching Jacques Cousteau. You capture this old soul's childlike imagination of adventure. Keep doing what you do. You are the artist, and author. Maybe when it's all over you will be remembered as a greater storyteller than your greatest sailing feat.
I love the straight forward videos with no music and no silly jingles and video clips advertising. I just like sailing, exploring and talking about sailing and exploring. I've started trying to take video even though my boat is just being made ready for water and won't be reading for significant sailing for some considerable time. Yet even now I find it a hard task to remember to video things, and I have no clue about editing, I tried once and ended up wanting to break things hah So kudos to all you who have it sorted, I know how much effort is involved and really appreciate it as guys like you are those who are inspiring and informing me for my journey when it starts. Never underestimate the impact you can have on someone you never even met. :)
Man I can’t believe most people only sit through 9 minutes of your videos!! Dude you are by far my favorite channel on UA-cam I never miss an episode and I enjoy them all from start to finish. I am preparing for my own voyage around the world in an old 30 foot boat and you are a great source of inspiration! I’ll be launching from the Sea of Cortez in about two years…. Hopefully I run into you one of these days. I’d like to start my own UA-cam channel but seriously man I really don’t think I have the patience! Thanks again for all your awesome work man!!!
Who in the world would criticize your content?? You have the most amazing sailing channel, and I’ve seen a lot! You show what being at sea is really like, when most people cover up certain things. Those people criticizing you aren’t worth even talking about, they are just trolls.
When I think of sailing or sailing adventures, I perhaps had an idealised notion of what it was like and perhaps did not really give much thought about the amount of knowledge that is required. When I was a teenager, I always wanted to run off and sail the world, but of course never did. Some of the travel vlogs always show you the nice parts, the lovely weather, sun, blue seas, etc. Rarely do you get a feel of the distances that you have to travel and the dangers you put yourself in. Your videos give us a glimpse into the real world of ocean sailing, the cold, the wet, the storms, the sheer distances that you have to travel. Thank-you! (music or no music)
As a sailor for 40 years, understand everything you say about what you encounter and what you have to do as a single sailor. Enjoy your vids, and you come across well.
Love watching your channel, anyone expecting real-time or even quasi-real-time videos is completely unreasonable! Thanks for sharing your journeys with us!
Please stay with your aesthetics James, whenever you filmed them, whenever we watch them they are all you. You set your style a long time ago and it really comes over well, to me anyway. I love sharing your experiences with you in a small way, look forward to seeing even more. Much respect mate 👍
There is one channel that will remain nameless, that really gets under my skin. They are purposely 3 months behind unless you pay. Such a scam. If they are that unethical then I wont even hit the like button. The reason I like yours is you are just honest and straightforward, you dont act entitled.
I have produced a lot of videos and blogs and I know how much work it takes to create something that looks raw and not over-produced. You have truly mastered it and your vidoes are amazing. Keep up the great work!
Well said man, and I totally agree with you. It surprises me that there are people out there that think UA-cam should be real-time. I did see your Instagram posts and commented on that. Love all of your videos and don't stop being you out there. Be well James
Thank-you for all of your hard work. I appreciate your content the effort that goes into producing it. I'm not sure who said this first, but here is a quote that came to mind while viewing this video: "Those that matter don't mind, and those that mind don't matter." Again, thank-you James for making my life better by sharing yours, and good luck in all your travels.
James, I think your format is great. Not sure why there would be crappy comments regarding it. Your mixture of sailing, the challenges associated with and the sightseeing to me, are great. I feel as if you provide the information to us as if we're preparing to do the similar trip ourselves. I say keep it up, and I always watch until the end! Cheers. Chris
I appreciate the time and effort you put in to give us great entertainment! You and Sam Holmes Sailing are my two favorite sailing channels! Keep the adventures coming!
Just keep sailing and posting and I’ll keep watching. I like your videos and think your doing an awesome thing. Congrats. I hope all your journeys are safe. Good luck.
Hey James, glad you made this video for all those people out there who have never watched UA-cam before. For the rest of us on YT, who have used this platform for a while (3 or more months), I'm sure this info is common knowledge. Personally, I watch your videos because of your attitude (kind and respectful to all), your style (both editing and personal), your way with words (I always think of the movie "A River Runs Through It" or the writings of W.Somerset Maugham when I hear or read your writing...both personal favorites), your outlook on life as well as your apparent openness and honesty. I hope you continue to make videos that you love/want to watch and continue to stay true to your vision. That is one of the primary requirements I have for subscribing: Authenticity. I hope you're having a great day today James! May fair winds be with you as always my friend! 🌬⛵
My wife has been sailing since she was 9 years old so 50 plus years. She says she's seen and read literally hundreds of sailing paraphernalia. We think you do an awesome job and she says she's learnt more from your videos than any other. So keep doing what you do best James. 👌
No worries man, the content is good and well-appreciated. Not only are you sharing your adventure and dreams but also teaching your skills and knowledge. i LOVE IT!!
Sounds like a solution looking for a problem. As long as it is in sequence, it's real time for me. Stopped following your tracker. Simply to enjoy the videos in order. And I do ENJOY each and every video. Keep it up James.
Anyone who thinks they are or need to be in real time is a bit daft. Yours is easily one of the top handful of sailing channels… and your perspective is positively beautiful and poetic… and in that IMHO you are unique. I love it just the way it is. I don’t watch 9 minutes… i watch most of your films twice. The passage films deserve an oscar. I aim to start sailing again soon and have my own channel and you are a massive inspiration (along with Sailing Florence, the Sailing Brothers, Wind Hippie & Calico Skies).
I cannot believe that people complain about not being real time, keep up the great work mate also just down loaded Joshua Slocum's book on Audible and can't wait to listen to it - cheers mate for all of your wisdom and time spent sharing with us K.
Yo.....its crazy you even have to explain this. Just keep doing what you are doin man. Leaving shoreline and headed to goat harbor this weekend. Been crazy weather here in long beach.
James I watch all your videos beginning to end. For me it does not matter that there is a delay in the release date and filming. Common sense tells me editing is necessary. The content you produce is excellent. I look forward to your videos. I appreciate the explanation. For some reason the tracker does not work for me. It still shows you in New Zealand. I'm not sure what is going on there. Anyway, keep up with the great episodes you're producing. I'll be watching them all and hitting the 👍Oh by the way when I found your channel I binge watched all your episodes from the very beginning. Proof that the content you're producing is excellent. Informative, educational, and 100% entertaining for me.
You keep doing what you do James, as most of us who look forward to seeing your content on a weekly bases, love your effort in producing, and editing such a great channel. I look forward to continuing the ride….Thanks James!!
@13:49 - Yes, for me, "silence and the sound of the sea" is usually better than adding music, but I can understand that others feel differently. New subscriber and look forward to more of your videos. Thanks for posting.
The bottom line is you're are a great story teller. Your life's journey is absolutely captivating that is why I watch, and will continue to watch and subscribe for a long time to come.
The timeline doesn't bother me and why anyone would whinge about the time delay is also beyond me, but who cares? That's their 'want it now' issue, to manage. It's because of your consistently authentic aesthetic and genuine life experience stories, that hook me each week and has been a catalyst for changing my own path. Wishing you continued success and good health, James. 🙏
You are doing a great job on sharing your experiences. Do not change on what you are doing. People lose Internet on land, it is understandable that you would not be able to post because of internet while sailing.
I run a small UA-cam channel that is largely sailing oriented from May through November. I don't post sailing oriented content in the Winter because the boat is in the shed for the Winter. All of my videos are published the day they are shot unless I am out on a multi day trip. In that case the videos are published the day I get back from the trip. I always open my videos with a statement of the date and often the time of day. I edit all my videos myself. I don't do live sailing videos because we don't have enough bandwidth locally to support live presentations from the boat. My feeling is that a lot of sailing channels don't do close to real time videos because they don't want to advertise their current location. The only other excuse for not being close to real time is a lack of band width to upload the videos. That is the reason I don't post daily when on a multi day trip. A lot of what you presented goes with running a UA-cam channel as a business. In my case it is a hobby. Consequently I don't really care how many views I get. I also have no problem with posting 2-3 or sometimes more videos a day. That just reflects that I am not in UA-cam for money. I recognize that a lot of younger people are actually trying to make a living from UA-cam, but many of us are not doing that.
I like your channel James and I take from your videos inspirations for the ones I make. I am like you a solo sailor, with much less experience so far limited to the Med. But that will change, I just upgraded toban ocean going vessel and at my age of 73 I will learn to be a better sailor. That's to present myself. As to the timing, you are totally right, of course. What I do in my videos I always tell which date it is, so people understand better when things happened. Ciao. Maurizio
Hi , James , i' m a proffesional sound editor, and a sailor . You 're doing a great job . When i strart to travel i decided, that it was to much time to edit stuff , so once in a wild i will take the time to do one for my friends at home . I like your style , the respect you have for the people you meet and that we dont have to see. We take more than 10 days to produce 30 minutes for TV and we have big crew , so you're doing great . Voilier Sono in florida , from Montréal canada.
I like when YT creators say the approx filming dates during the video (even the month & year). Kevin on "How to Sail Oceans" always does this, and it helps to put the video into chronological context.
It’s surprising people do not understand that videos are obviously not in real time … wow, wouldn’t have thought that. For me personally, I wish all of you would open your videos with a bold screen shot of the date when the video was actually shot. It’s nice to know the specific time of year when certain events have happened. Other than that … great job, keep it up. 👍
I bought the book because you mentioned it. I already knew alot about the Bounty and Capt Bleigh and Pitcairn island etc. Read It through and couldn’t put it down. I also was in the Navy and circumnavigated the globe. To do it as they did or you do amazes me
Thank you for doing these videos. I really enjoy it! And please stick with your style of editing. It’s really nice to have this logbook of your adventures in this basic way.
James your videos are top class in every way. Personally I am happy to wait as long as it takes for your next releases, it assures I always have something worthwhile to look forward to.👍👍👍👍👍
"You can't keep all the people happy, all of the time" Keep doing what you're doing, as far as I'm concerned, you're nailing it. Great content, well produced and edited, not spoilt by excessive or unnecessarily loud music 👍
Maybe I’m just easy to please and I don’t over think your production. I enjoy the hell out of each and every one of your videos. I haven’t a clue the amount of work that goes into your videos but I appreciate what you do. There’s no other way that I would ever experience what you experience. Keep up the great work. When you do include music I always find it very fitting. So I guess what I’m try to say is just keep doing what you do and I’ll keep watching. Peace
Great vid again. I'll always like watching the whole vid. I watch to learn and observe so that when it's my turn out there I'm well informed and know what I want.
I think you do an excellent job of making the watcher feel like they are right there with you. I jump around the different years looking for the stuff I like. It seems like it doesn't matter what I pick as I really enjoy it all. I am shopping for a boat myself with the dream of San Diego to Hawaii and back. I did Catalina a bunch of times growing up.
Bro I love your video style. Keep doing you. I find the passage videos so awesome ,relaxing ,and informative. In my opinion you shouldn’t change a thing. Keep doing what you do the way you do it. I’ve never once donated anything to a YT video. Yesterday I felt the need to contribute a whopping $2 thanks to you. I hope you get to continue living your dreams and continue sharing them with me. So you must be doing something right. Thanks again brother.
I love watching your passage videos, and clearly it is not possible for them to be "real time" but then I understand that being a sailor too. Please don't change anything and keep doing what you do and enjoy it. This is one of my favourite channels, and to put it in perspective I watched some Finnish sailors on their boat having Christmas dinner on their latest video in the middle of March. You can't rush sailing it is what it is.
Keep doing what you do James when you can. My wife & I really like your style & all the amazing things you get to see & the involving & inclusive way you share it. We watch every episode in full & have never felt like telling you how you should be editing, filming, sailing etc etc if I didn’t like what you did I could find someone else editing in a different way. It’s almost trendy to be critical & offended these days 🙄 if you don’t like it move on peacefully with respect. Fair winds & following seas my friend 😉
Such a great informative video man, beyond the real time conundrum, you speaking about style, consistency and process is a really helpful insight into the world of vlogging. Thanks James, you are an inspiration for many.
Great work James!! Always looking forward to your videos & post on your social media platforms. And a big mahalo nui for taking us along with you! 🤙🏼🌊⛵️
I would have to say I don’t care what “time” your videos are released in. I enjoy every one of them - and watch from beginning to end - long or short. I thought I had “Men Against The Sea” I don’t, so I ordered it. I do have Nathaniel Philbrick’s In The Heart of The Sea. About the tragedy of the whale ship Essex. If you haven’t read it, I think you might like it. I’d send it to you if I knew how. Keep up the fantastic videos - I look forward to them!
I can’t believe viewers think you are recording in real time. I know it takes a tremendous amount of editing to produce your content, which I immensely enjoy. Look forward to seeing more. Thank you
Well done Captain James. It is just this.....the care you share with your viewers, that speaks for its self, regardless what the few unhappy viewers post....those will never be happy. Proof for your intent and hard work is the growing viewers and subs. Great things are coming soon. The world is slowly waking up to this change. If your interested in knowing more ...Queen Romana Didulo and her Royal Decrees for All We the People. Blissings
The modern day human demands everything in real time. It's the internet age. I ordered a product off Amazon...it's getting packed 3 minutes later as per my email update! People have never been as stupid as they are today. Our society is on a dangerous path where we preach "free thinking" but make it so it's near on impossible through psychology. The mere fact that you felt you had to make this video proves this point and it's quite sad really. We are a world of very few free thinkers and completely set into the instant gratification need - for most anyway. Anyone with half a brain would know otherwise, we're just few and far in between.
Agreeing with everything you said, James. Myself, I'm always nodding, chuckling and muttering and itching to get up and help you, as if I'm onboard with you when I watch your posts. We watch you because you're a great storyteller and because we really like the way you do things, think things. Fair seas or not, I'm with you for the long haul. (Also wanted to agree with your book recommendations, they're top for me too. About Bligh: we used to say, "All boat captains are Blighs," and the world's too full of people who live to judge others, who mutiny/mob psychology if you give them opportunity in hardship.)
I personally enjoy your videos and appreciate the fact that you go through all the work it takes to make these videos and share them for those of us who likely will never get to do what you are doing and see the places you are visiting. To all those people who arent happy with your videos for whatever reason, they should maybe buy a boat, fix it up and sail the seas and make their own videos to their liking! I look forward to watching your channel as your adventure continues! Thank you for all the time & effort you put into doing it!
Thanks! I just ordered that book about Captain Bligh and his loyal crewmen and the staggering journey they made in that boat with minimal provisions. It always fascinates me thinking about the resilience and determination he and his crew must have had to get through that.
I tottally agree. Evergreen content lasts forever. My channel is about a month behind. My channel has become like a sail fail channel because Ive been honest and posted my greatest mistakes sailing 5 months and 1000 nm. My biggest problem is comments and haters. At the end of the day I hope someone learns something from my mistakes..
@@SailorJames I appreciate you saying that. Its just hard not to take things personal. Im going to take your advice. People should not consider them selves a real Captain unless they have sailed 1000 nm.. and not give advice unless they are so.. Thanks for taking the time to talk with a small time UA-camr like me. Cheers Captain.
James, you can't please everyone, you can't fix everything, so enjoy what you're doing. You did a great job explaining something that should have been obvious.

Some folks have no clue…in the middle of the ocean? Real time? James..your videos are marvelous.
Thank you James. That was so interesting. I watch every minute of your videos and as a disabled newbie sailor you inspire me. Much love

One of my favourite sailing channels. I like your content and the way it’s filmed. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this thoughtful comment 🙏🏻
My wife has been sailing since she was 9 years old so 50 plus years. She says she's seen and read literally hundreds of sailing paraphernalia. We think you do an awesome job and she says she's learnt more from your videos than any other. So keep doing what you do best James. 👌
Thank you for this incredibly kind comment 🙏🏻
No worries man, the content is good and well-appreciated. Not only are you sharing your adventure and dreams but also teaching your skills and knowledge. i LOVE IT!!
You're killing it James! I love the sounds of your boat and the elements, I end up muting lots of UA-cam because of their lound music.
I know how much work sailing is. I can't imagine trying to produce a video, too! You have a marvelous channel.
Yeah I saw there was a tornado like 12 miles from my old house in LA 😳
Thanks 🙏🏻 I am still in New Zealand and will be all of 2023 as long as my visa is extended 👍🏻
@@SailorJames Ahh okay 👍 that makes sense. Guess I was thrown off a little by the release dates but that's no bother to me. Fairwinds James
Dude, as you know, haters gonna hate. I find you inspiring, sailing solo in an older boat and making it work. Thanks for sharing your journey.
You keep doing what you do James, as most of us who look forward to seeing your content on a weekly bases, love your effort in producing, and editing such a great channel. I look forward to continuing the ride….Thanks James!!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
@13:49 - Yes, for me, "silence and the sound of the sea" is usually better than adding music, but I can understand that others feel differently. New subscriber and look forward to more of your videos. Thanks for posting.
The bottom line is you're are a great story teller. Your life's journey is absolutely captivating that is why I watch, and will continue to watch and subscribe for a long time to come.
Thanks for this 🙏🏻
I find your videos super relaxing. And thanks.
I started watching last June, and have been watching every one since. Keep it up James!!!
Read
It through and couldn’t put it down. I also was in the Navy and circumnavigated the globe. To do it as they did or you do amazes me
Dig it - James I appreciate the straight-forward approach and find it a valuable perspective.😮
Thank you for doing these videos. I really enjoy it! And please stick with your style of editing. It’s really nice to have this logbook of your adventures in this basic way.
James your videos are top class in every way. Personally I am happy to wait as long as it takes for your next releases, it assures I always have something worthwhile to look forward to.👍👍👍👍👍
"You can't keep all the people happy, all of the time"
Keep doing what you're doing, as far as I'm concerned, you're nailing it.
Peace
Thank you 🙏🏻
Great vid again. I'll always like watching the whole vid. I watch to learn and observe so that when it's my turn out there I'm well informed and know what I want.
Just keep doing you mate. What you do is what we love to see.
You're sailing around the world by yourself. Couch surfers should appreciate content in anytime, or any way. Thanks for taking us along 💪🏻😎
Thank you 🙏🏻
I love watching your passage videos, and clearly it is not possible for them to be "real time" but then I understand that being a sailor too. Please don't change anything and keep doing what you do and enjoy it. This is one of my favourite channels, and to put it in perspective I watched some Finnish sailors on their boat having Christmas dinner on their latest video in the middle of March. You can't rush sailing it is what it is.
James keep bringing us along on your voyage around the world
Carry on as you are doing James. Your videos are very enjoyable to watch. Thank you for making us travel by proxy
gracias James por llevarnos contigo a conocer este bello mundo en el que vivimos.Gracias por tu tiempo, filmando y editando.Tu eres el mejor.!
I can't get over people complaining about your videos, i love your work, keep it up, all the best my man
Your doing a great job. Some of your films are fantastic , some of the best I have seen
Great work James!! Always looking forward to your videos & post on your social media platforms. And a big mahalo nui for taking us along with you! 🤙🏼🌊⛵️
Keep on trucking!!!
Just be safe and enjoy the ride !!
Thank you
Good information. I've been enjoying your videos for a while. It's obviously alot of work and I appreciate you sharing. Thank you!

I absolutely agree with your practice of making whatever kind of videos you want to make. See you in the next one, Cap'n.
Doing a great job sir! Happy sailing ✌️
Your sailing vids are the best. Thank you dude.
I can't understannd how anyone can complain, smh....I love whatever you put up, much appreciated and love your videos thankyou
Yo James, keep on keeping on. Thanks for sharing your life with me ✊🏼❤️✊🏼.
I see it the same way you do. Love your content. Really enjoy the long vids on ocean sailing from place to place.
Love your reallity dude, keep on as you are. Your journey is envious.
Just ignore the haters and never reply, if they are insulting you just block them and move on. I get hundreds of haters a week, sometimes a thousand
100’s to 1,000’s of haters every week? Damn people have nothing better to do.
