- Lou Reed performs "New Sensations" live at the Farm Aid concert in Champaign, Illinois on September 22, 1985. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

Farm Aid's performances are donated by the artists in order to raise funds and raise awareness for family farmers. They've raised their voices to help - what can you do?
I really liked the 1980s version of Lou Reed: Clean and sober, his image rehabilitated (due in no small part to his muse/wife/manager, Sylvia Morales Reed), and still singing melodically. Unlike many rock stars, Lou knew what it felt like to make a lot of money and then lose almost all of it. So I think it got to a point where Lou was truly happy that he could go on the road and people would pay to see him perform. The waves of love and awe coming from his audiences must have been overwhelming.
This is one of his best-ever songs. So far, I like the _Perfect Night: Live in London_ version best.
I accept that he, like every single one of us, has a weight to carry. Sometimes those weights overwhelm us and no one is there for us, except maybe those who choose to jeer. He was, like all of us, also full of wonders and he and his art and humanism have taught me that living is loving-kindness, is equity, is acceptance and rolling with the flow, not judging others, not ranking others, not competing with others. And this tune like this entire album embodies those core values for me.
I was at Amnesty in NY in '86. I was there mostly to see Pete Townshend, my hero, then Bill Graham announced that he had to catch a plane because his dad was gravely ill. My day was spoiled until Lou came on. I have never seen anything like the joy that overtook him as he played, and the thunder-like applause that rang out from his hometown crowd. Never forgotten it and cherish the memory.
A great performance, but it's Fernando Saunders' bass work that really makes this for me. Frigging unbelievable.
Right there with you. Its so cool it makes me laugh from sheer joy!
Thx ! Todd Jenkins:) www.fernandosaunders.net

I agree!
Great song. I love the human tuinal line. Those were great in the day.
The lads were kick'n it down for the all the hurting farmers. We have got to stick together, people.
Those are blessed who were up there to see Lou Reed's live.
Inspired performance of this great tune. Nice to see an 'urban rocker' like Lou & Co. support Farm Aid. Fantastic.
My favorite version of this song
He would be a great musician to meet and perform with. I respect him!
Lou Reed + Farm Aid? It's like NYC slicker took a wrong turn at the Delaware gap and didn't check the map. Ended up in the country and has to play a gig for money to make gas money home.
Kudos to Reed for being a little out of his usual element and doing it for the right reasons.
Hilarious
Gad damn he looks great here! RIP brother!
Still a fan of this album. This concert was the only time I saw Reed perform.

Those VU days were a mere warming up for the absolute genius that came later. In particular he became not only a progressive voice but an advocate for equity. The VU days were hedonism and self-exploration; later came the chastened humanist.
I beg to differ with you. His work with VU was stellar in comparison. Still, their influence on music continues to blows my mind! However, he did become a better person in just about every way possible. It seemed as if Lou was at his happiest during the 1980's. He looked SO happy to be there performing for everyone.😁
GPZ not Harley 😢
FERNANDO SAUNDERS BASSIST MADE THIS BAND. THE DRUMMER IS NICE TOO
