Deferred from my dream school, Penn. I watched this video about 20 times and poured my heart into the continued interest letter. Last week, Penn admitted me into their Class of 2023. I am beyond ecstatic. I hope to see you on campus this fall! Thank you so much!

@@daneajagipson2982 Yes definitely! So I wrote what they call a "letter of continued interest," where I reiterated my interest in Duke and provided updates for my application. When writing this letter, I was brutally honest with myself, because if you got deferred it means they truly considered you as a candidate for admission, but there might have been one thing they weren't quite sure about. In other words, your admissions officer thought you should be admitted but the admissions committee wasn't sure. You have to give your admissions officer a reason to fight for you. So I took an objective look at my application to find what that weakness might have been. In my case, I was presenting myself as STEM-oriented, and although I had straight A's through junior year, my first quarter physics grade senior year was a B. I figured maybe this was my weakness/area of concern, so I got my grade up by second quarter to an A and also submitted a letter of rec from that physics teacher. In addition, I provided an update on some of my STEM-related extracurriculars in my letter. You want your letter to be the right balance of expressing interest but not begging for a spot, and the right balance of providing updates on what you've been up to without overloading them with every little thing you've done since. Hope this helps and good luck! No matter the outcome, it's really about making the most of your 4 years at whatever school you end up at :).

Hey Thank your for your video! I just got deffered from UChicago. I felt depressed becuase I thought it may mean “soft rejectuon.” But after watching your video I was encouraged to struggle again. I appreciate that! Oh and I have a question. Since I immigrated to US 2 years ago, my english speaking is not fluent. So,do you think calling the admission officer without enough English will make my admission chance high or is it risky to me?
I think that you speaking with your accent or not shouldn't be the reason as to why they don't accept or reject you. It puts a name to the face, and also humanizes you. Your accent is a part of you, you shouldn't feel ashamed for it, so I say go for it, and see what they say! Glad you enjoyed the video!

I know that when deferred from UPenn, there is the "Early Decision Deferred Applicant Update." How exactly did you fill it out? Did u just type out why you wanted to go, with some updates about your accomplishments (ie extracurriculars, clubs)? Did you attach any files like a resume or anything? Did you send a continued letter of interest to penn? This would really help me out (I was deferred from Penn) if you respond!! Thanks :)

How did you use the one update on the portal they give you? Do you recommend attaching my letter to the portal update, or emailing them? Thanks!
If they have a portal for giving an update than I would use that as that’s where they expect to find your update. However, if that isn’t an option, I would email them.
For me, there was a portal so I just used that

I'd assume that you'd submit it sometime before regular decisions. For me, it was around valentines day (Feb 14) but I'd email admissions for your respective school just to be sure! Best of luck! :)

I found out today I’m on UNT’s DAP program. Which means I’ve been deferred, I called them and they told me Ill have to take 15 hours/credit at a community college through the fall semester. Then maybe I could update my information and apply for Spring 2019. Should I go with that and wait to hear back from them? Or just apply fresh to another school?
Hi Kelendria! Glad you enjoyed the video. I personally do not know that much about the DAP program. I think your best bet would be to apply to other schools and see if you can transfer in if that's still what you want. I think being stagnant and doing nothing isn't smart, nor do I think it's a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket waiting for this school. So I would apply to other schools, and then pursue credits while waiting to hear back from UNT. Hopefully this was helpful!

I just got deferred from my dream college Harvard, but your video is not letting me get discouraged and instead giving me hope! I just wanted to ask, until when do I have to submit LOCI? Till the Regular Decision deadline or I can do it after that too? They have said, "You are welcome to submit significant new information for consideration during the Regular Decision process. Updates on your activities or other achievements and an extra letter of recommendation are helpful if they might contribute substantially to your application. These optional documents or updates can be submitted via the Materials Uploader on the Applicant Portal."

As far as I’m concerned I think you should be able to, it just depends on the school’s policy. So I would call the US universities just to make sure!

The head of department of the course I'm taking is forcing me to defer since I haven't attended most classes this semester, trust me it wasn't by choice the school fees is way too much so I can't stay in a hostel... Meaning you f I want to attend class I have to travel back and forth from home to school everyday.... Lol.... Expensive too... Plus my older brothers are in the same situation...it is clear if I defer.... It will be the end of my schooling 🙁🤕life sucks
