Hi Brooke! I’ve been watching your videos for about 4 years now and I’m proud to say that I was recently accepted into Yale Class of 2023! I would’ve never been able to get my SAT and ACT scores up without your “Most difficult questions on...” videos or refined my extracurriculars without the “How I got into...” student interviews. I just wanted to thank you as one of my mentors, because ultimately, that’s what this channel is about, mentorship. I’ll be sure to send this video to my friends who have been deferred!
Ayy I was deferred and am watching this to claw my way in and join you. If only my guidance counselor had more of an idea of how to help me, but Brooke is doing an amazing job at filling in.
Oldest daughter was DEFERRED from University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, her ABSOLUTE DREAM University! She is a Bio-Chem/Pre-Med Major, future surgeon. She has been diagnosed with Chronic Illness, endured 2 Surgical Operations and missed over 90 days of school in past 2 1/2 years, but has very good grades, nearly all honors/AP courses. Thank you for your skill and time. (Anxious Father in Chicago)
@@tiffany3254 I know this will definitely give you some hope. I was feeling hopeless looking at these elite kids with extraordinary stats. Hi Brooke can you write an updated deferred advise for kids waiting in 2023 which have been deferred from an Ivy in this test optional days. Thank you for all you do
My top choice was Yale, and I got deferred. Looking back at my application, I completely messed up because I was portraying myself how I thought I was supposed to and was not truly authentic. I know you said send an email, but how do I revise my application on common app to resend? And would it look bad to completely change the entire theme of my application from wanting to combine neuroscience/public policy through a specific major to wanting to major in linguistics (by the way, if I have activities that back up an interest in linguistics does that help chances of admission?) Thanks so much!
When do UC send the email of getting rejected because you have bad grades senior year? And are they only looking at first semester or second semester for this scenario?
I have amazing essays , in top 1% of my country board exams , good extracurriculars ( internships, leadership etc..) But have very low Sat scores because of verbal(1300) and full marks in Sat subject tests of maths level 2, -phy, chemistry and 100 in tofel. So,in which colleges to look for and what to do for regular decision?? Pls ...help me ...
who do you send these emails to with updates? also, how should you phrase emails where you're explaining a circumstance that impacted your application, and not make it just sound like complaining/sob story as I've heard colleges really don't like that, even if youre telling the honest truth of a situation.
If you know someone from a college fair / on campus interview w/ dean send to that person. If you don't just send to the admissions office general email account. 50% chance no one will read it, but most colleges will add this to your file or at least write you back and tell you how to submit such information in a different channel. The second question -- that is called being a good writer. There is no magic answer but it is an art. But saying nothing generally isn't going to help.
with a lot of schools, you will have a location-based admissions counselor, that information will likely be online and you can email them directly! good luck! :)
If you're deferred, then go somewhere else. Why pine away for some school that isn't immediately desirous of you? Same sort of thinking applies to all aspects of your life.
Brooke, I took the Dec SAT and I got 5 questions wrong overall on the Math section and I was given a 700. Do you think that’s fair? Btw my friend took the SAT a few months ago, got 4 Math questions wrong and got a 770. 🧐
Could the fact that I have a 100% financial need from an Ivy that is need-aware and I am an international student impact the fact that I’ve been deferred? I haven’t won an international olympiad but I am a laureate of 3 national competitions, have a spike, alumni interview went well and essays were written in this novel-style with advanced vocabulary and were really directed at that school and its symbols. And still, I got deferred as an Early Decision applicant, I am anxious why did it happen :/ could someone help?
I recently got accepted into Princeton, but I was deferred from MIT. Would it be wise to mention my acceptance in stating how although I was accepted there, MIT has always been and still is my dream school?
You shouldn't have applied to both Princeton and MIT early as Princeton has Restrictive Early Action. Applying to Princeton early means that you can't apply to any other private school early. So I would really keep it a secret that you got into Princeton early to any other schools before they rescind their decision.
Evan Seeyave “You may apply early to any public institution or service academy, as long as the decision is nonbinding. You may apply early to any college or university with a nonbinding rolling admission process. “ That’s right from Princeton’s website.
I got deferred from Michigan and I know they ran out of time for applications, it says that I should send in my transcripts of my recent grades by February, should I still send in emails of being interested in their school?
but just TWO correspondences in total is my rec. I've had kids get in with 2. More can be a bother unless it's very much warranted (you win the national _______ competition, you make the olympics, etc.). Space them out, also.
Hi Brooke! I was told to send updates on awards along with my e-mail update; however, I do not find out about most of these awards until March. I'm afraid that if I send an update email and win some major awards after the fact I may have to pester a college with constant updates. What should I do?
Aim to send TWO emails in total. One must be before about Feb 15th or it will be too late. I like to get things in by mid Jan when possible. No college is going to be beyond annoyed by 2 emails. That is fine. They're used to it. Just try to consolidate when you can. You can also alert them to the fact that you may be sending updates later as available if you feel it's appropriate.
So I had a question about the deferral process, recently I applied early decision to Virginia tech. I want to go into their engineering program and I got deferred from early decision, however I got put in the early action pool instead of the standard decision pool. I have a 4.429 gpa and have plenty of challenging courses as well as extracurricular activities. Do you think that I have a good chance and does being placed in the early action pool change my outcome?
It’s the same general idea, but deferrals happen in early applications and waitlists happen in regular decision. The other difference is that deferred applications are reconsidered in the regular decision round but waitlisted candidates are reconsidered if/when the school has less people accept their admissions offer than expected.
