    The Devinci Spartan is the latest thoroughbred steed to adopt a suspension design based around a high pivot idler system. Devinci hasn’t been shy about the bike’s intentions either. It’s touted clearly as a race-ready rig capable of tackling the most demanding stages and its marketing is awash with photos of Enduro World Series mainstay Greg Callaghan railing corners on unforgiving courses such as Tweed Valley and Finale Ligure.
    The Spartan features 160 millimeters of travel in back and 170 millimeters up front, handled dutifully by a Fox Float X2 Elite shock and Fox Float 38 Performance Grip fork. Most Spartans will never see an EWS Queen stage, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t also equally at-home on the steepest trails in your area.
    The Spartan brings a level of balance to the enduro bike category that I really enjoyed. Having such plush characteristics while still retaining an agile quality make the Spartan a very attractive bike for more than just dedicated enduro racers. This bike would be an amazing tool for anyone who regularly shuttles or, if the terrain warrants it, could be a great contender for a one-bike-quiver for an aggressive rider. The Spartan’s heft and high pivot design mean you’ll have to generate a few extra watts to make it to the top of the mountain but, when you’re there, prepare to laugh the whole way down.

    Standard Grip damper in the chunky 38 and a Code RSC. Well spec'ed DeVinci. Rather have it that way than shiny suspension with a Guide R.

    Another great review! I absolutely love Devinci bikes. My next big bike would probably be this or the Wreckoning. I went from a Django to a Following v3 and other than pedaling efficiency, the Django doesn't really give up a lot of the Following. In some ways I feel that the Django wanted to go faster when you cut it loose and the rear end felt soo much bigger than 120. However, I do like the support of the DELTA when you stand up and mash on the pedals. I would have to flip the swtich on the rear shock to get the same feeling on the Django.

    I'm starting to lose my frame of reference with so many long travel bikes with massive wheelbases and slack HTA being called playful, nimble and agile.
    Can we have some objective competitive comparisons between different style bikes? For example: which bike you can bunnyhop highest on, crush a rockgarden fastest on, make it through a tight slalom section fastest on, manages to get furthest on a slight uphill rhythm section without a chain installed, which is the highest drop/huck you're willing to take per bike etc? All things you can actually measure.
    Take bikes out of different categories or, if you wanna go radical, make this a standard part of every bike review.
    I'm lost.

    A high pivot should have an advantage on larger square edge hits, the trail in the vid was pretty smooth, looks fun but not exactly a demanding trail for today's enduro bikes.

    Great reviews, thank you.
    Between the
    Spartan
    Range
    Spire
    Wreckoning
    For half whistler bike park and half peddal to decend, emphasis on decend what would be your pick? Flow, jumps and tech.

    Curious how you think this compares to other long travel 170mm bikes with short chainstays, like the Evil Wreckoning?

    • @2dcutout
      @2dcutout 2 роки тому

      From the implications 'poppy, playful, easier to maneuver but maybe harder going on the up because it's so supple and heavy'.

  • @barathmuthusamy

    Does the short chainstay length make the bike playful? or is it just to make sure when the high pivot compresses the chainstay doesn’t grow too long?

    • @johnsospencer
      @johnsospencer 2 роки тому +2

      I find that the shorter chainstay bikes give you more of a pivoting around the hips feeling. It's almost easier to keep tabs on where your rear wheel is. The spartan - even with the growing chainstay feels pretty lively in the rear end!
