MTB entry level is actually somewhere a bit below 1000€ for a new bike. For some reason most of MTB media has this same really strange view of price categories. Not even road cyclists think 2000€ is a reasonable price for an entry level bike and we're supposed to be the ones who get rightfully made fun of for equipping ourselves like we're going to the Tour de France next week.

"For the kids to get out and ride" - a 6 grand bicycle with subpar brakes and other quirks that you need to get adapted to a lot.
    Rrrrrright, makes total sense.

    • @Rose_Butterfly98
      @Rose_Butterfly98 Рік тому +2

Does it take a lot of adapting? I thought these high pivot bikes have really good pedaling efficiency with really active suspension behavior and good anti dive as well.
It's like what Polygon has been doing with their Collosus and Xquareone series.
I have one from a few years ago, it's the wrong size, L instead of S, but it still feels right when I'm on it. So right that I commute on it as well.
They just seem to do everything for you, like the bike adapts to whatever you want to do instead of you having to adapt.
I rode one of my neighbors forbidden druid once, felt a lot like my bike. Just a little weird since it has less rear travel and more front travel than mine.
Enduros aren't that popular here, even 140mm is considered a bit overkill for the trails here.

@@Rose_Butterfly98 The issue is the price for purpose. When I was a kid I rode a $40 mountain bike in the back trails all the time and had a blast. To expect parents to drop 6 grand for something you can do for less than 1 is wild.

      @@TDPEquinox 4.7k, not really 6k.
But anyways, De Vinci has cheaper bikes like xc bikes which most people start on anyway. Like kids who have reached adult bike size.
Like my Polygon Plateau 3.0 a cross country bike.
There aren't any $40 bikes anymore not even hypermarket bikes are that cheap nowadays. Inflation and what not.
Lots of parents buy 2k bikes for their children. Mine was only 700 on discount, full suspension xc bike, our currency is similar to CAD in value.
I got my bike later when I got an internship.

      @rustywrx Рік тому +12

@@TDPEquinoxI agree, but that might be because I don't see the value in a $4700 bike.

Full disclosure; Trust in the bike is terrifyingly low, even though it's never actually failed on me other than the chain bouncing off a few times.

I really like fortnine, they even asked me to take part of one of their videos recently!! What I don't really like here on the other hand, is the fact that Dave, the reviewer, himself works for another bike brand, as their PR and Social media person. Doesn't seem legit to me and I see here quite a big conflict of interest !!!
So let me do a review of this review:
I ride for Devinci, I'm a professional mountain biker, and a coach.
    - Half of the Geometry numbers you gave for the Chainsaw are wrong.
    - That full section at 6:07, Dave blames the brakes when we crashes into the camera but the crash as nothing to do with the braking, it's simply really bad technique.
    - When talking about high pivots bikes getting longer into the travel of the suspension, and getting in the way when riding technical terrain you are also pointing the finger at Trek, Forbidden, Deviate, Norco, Cannondale, Commencal... and lots of brands that adopted this suspension design and have proven that their bikes can ride technical terrain pretty damn well.. Oh but, the brand he represent doesn't use high pivot system...
    - at 8:45 you are trying to do a Manual, I would like to see you do a manual on another bike, someone who can manual can manual on any bikes.
    - At the end of the video you basically say to the brand who supported Stevie during his career, and named a bike after him to donate back to the Stevie Smith foundation that this bike is a flop. Kinda not cool for Stevie's foundation and all the Stevie fans out there.
Here is my take Fortnine, If you want to review bikes, do it well, we want to see the reviewer trying harder and riding the bike for more than one day, and we want to see a reviewer that doesn't compete against the brands he reviews.
Happy to help with some coaching as well ;)

Bicycle prices are insane. There is no sense in which a $6k pricetag gets more kids out riding. Developing a love for riding happens on the bike you get for a few hundred from a sports store. Make that bike better and make sure Mom goes home with the right size for junior and you will have gotten more kids to love riding.

there's plenty of cheaper options though they're usually hardtails so on rear suspension as that cuts cost. if all one wants to do is get out and ride then you can easily find a decent bike around 500bucks used, on sale or just with some research and luck then hit the trails but spending more will sometimes give better quality and newer features but usually it'll be for extra bells and whistles

You start watching because Ryan did a really good review of the Continental GT, so when you wanted some new gloves, you listened to Ryan’s review of the best gloves of 20xx, and followed the link. Why a new channel suggestion?
#1. Your fanbase here wants motorcycle and motorcycle gear content. Thats what we subscribed for.
#2. As a company that doesn't crank out videos just for the numbers and focuses on quality, viewers might percieve that MTB content is taking away time/money/effort from moto content.

I agree with you about the slack head angle. It just makes the bike way less cabale on anything less than downhill terrain. I bought a Commencal Meta Power SX Race which had a 63° head tube angle and after a year and 2,500km I decided it’s just not the bike for me. I sold it and got a Mondraker Crafty R which is a medium travel “all mountain” bike with much more logical geometry including a 65.5° head tube angle and it is so much more enjoyable to ride. So much more nimble and pointy and doesn’t feel like a bus going through corners. Slack head tubes just makes bikes flop around and I find it affects traction on the front wheel too since the wheel has to flop so far to the side to achieve the steering angle that you need for tighter corners. It’s just bad and the bike industry has gone too far. Keep slack head tubes for downhill bikes.

You are looking at bicycle that has most of the new things, dropper post, high pivot, it has full air suspension that is also adjustable and geometry that is kinda new. Those things take money and time to design and they sell less bikes - price is higher than you expect because for some reason you assume that frame and technology fell from the sky.
Also this bike is not "geared towards beginners", it's machine you could use to compete. I guess you connected kids to beginners? Those champions didn't start when they were 45 and had mid life crisis as a dentist, they started when they were 5. 15 year old, who starts in competition, is still a kid. I have no knowledge of this sport - and no interest in taking it up (I'm getting too old for that!) - but damn, you just made a video that I was totally absorbed in and thoroughly enjoyed. I am in awe of that talent! Kudos to you, sir, Kudos to you.

I like the host, and while I'd prefer FortNine to stay motorcycles only...maybe he could get his own space? Nothing wrong with bicycles (they were our first two wheeled death machines), but not for this channel.

This channel belongs to FortNine, and they sell MTB stuff too now. And why start a second channel from scratch when they have an excellent ne already?

@@darkiee69 How about you let someone have a dissenting opinion? It's not like anyone is forcing you to be snarky
