@@JoshuaBardwell, I'm confused. I was under the impression that the walksnail cameras are native 4x3 sensors, are they not? If they are, wouldn't you be better off using the system in 4x3 to make the viewing experience better?
I don't think it's true that all WS cameras are native 4:3. The V2 camera is native 4:3 but the Pro camera is 16:9. So if you want the low-light sensitivity of the Pro camera you can't also have the 4:3 aspect ratio. You can see here: ua-cam.com/video/IFDkwY1pIjE/v-deo.html&si=7b8yoAHCkYGxFqVe But either way, the OSD elements in the corner of the goggle screen are blurry unless you reduce the FOV to pull them inwards.

Great review! Do you know if there are Analog modules with a built in DVR or some 'in between DVR' device that one can buy? And what about recording the HDMI out if using analog, can it be recorded to an android phone or sth via HDMI->USB-C ?
I use Walksnail. I bought them since I believe they will have a new chip for 4k within a year. I do have V1 also I got both figuring my son will fly with me now.
I fly Walksnail, DJI, HDZero, and analog. I also ordered the goggles X in the hope that it's optics are larger then the v1 goggles. I also hoped it might improve range in future but I don't think there is a 4K mode coming like you believe. The 4K that's coming is most likely 4K recording, not 4K transmission to goggles.
The v1 goggles have about 46 degree FOV. The X have about 50 degree. So they are larger. But in my experience this means you can't get the whole screen in view at the same time. The corners are always out of view or blurry.
@@JoshuaBardwell That is good to know. I have the Avatar HD Pro kit I can do 16:9 or 4:3 wonder if switching will help with this or so the website said I thought I maybe mixing up I read so much if not its good to know. I like the low light so can fly after work in winter longer
Oscar LLiang or how was his name again mentioned that HDMI sockets are too deep in the housing so only specially selected HDMI cables do fit. Can you confirm that JB?

Now im looking at buying new drones etc, and wish id gone hd zero or otherwise, as the drones etc are all about 100-200$ cheaper with anything other than dji, including vtx n cams for builds. So while my dji goggles v2 are great, with a wildfire modual for analog, I don't think I'd take the same route today, probably drop my mula on hd zero tbh, possibly walksnail, just because of overall price, and so many things are available cheapee, plus vtx ½ the prices for builds etc. I can handle 150$ alot easier than 300$
Thank you for so much info in one video. Answered a ton of questions for an old analog FPV fart like me. Also, weird to be wearing a jacket from a gas station.... 🤣😂
When talking about the HDMI passthrough with your phone: it might be some sort of HDCP compliance mechanism built into the chip that controls the HDMI port.
That's possible I guess. The phone worked correctly when it was doing Samsung Dex but when it switched to screen mirroring, the passthrough didn't work.
Walksnail have good idea... but they release product not finish... i think they will have a good potential in the next year... but for now for me it's not ready and the differrence of the price between DJI is not big enough for me to change.
Hi. How does the goggles x compare to the dominator HD for nose pressure? I have a lot of nose pressure with the dominator and wanted to know if the goggles x would improve on that aspect. Thanks.
thank you for this. it seems that since the Walksnail receiver along with the HDZero goggles supports the high refresh, along with the high refresh of HDZero, as well as their fancy analog wizardry, that the HDZero goggles seem to continue to be the best choice for someone who wants the best experience from as many worlds as they can.

I pre-ordered the new goggles X and totally planned to use it with my hd0 quads I also plan to use it with my analog quads so I only have to haul these goggles and my DJI out to fly now I don't need to take three and four pairs of goggles
Is it stupid to have both DJI and Walksnail. My feeling is that dji still can’t do a 75 freestyle drone yet and walksnail is small enough and light enough. Thoughts ?
I may have missed it in this video, but I am looking for a way to take the output from my standalone Walksnail Receiver and split it out simultaneously to my Goggles and a monitor or TV for others to view while I fly. Everything I have found forces me to choose one output, but I want two at the same time.
Splitting hdmi introduces latency. The hdmi out on these goggles will work for you. Or when caddx eventually releases the app for these goggles which will give you a streaming option via wifi
All that Walk Snail has to do to beat DJI is make a google with a great comfortable fit where you can see the screen perfectly. Then get the 4k going. Oh and no stupid activations or fly apps or any of that stupid stuff. Then DJI RIP!!!! as far as FPV freestyle is concerned! They will always have their high tech super expensive plastic drones though. That fall apart if you look at them the wrong way.
I just spent big bucks on dji Integra goggles not to switch unless it's night and day difference in performance and quality. Right now I can fly 2miles away with no problem (scared to go further than that) lol
Walksnail still have a long way to catch up with Integra and O3. Walksnail is great if you want a 1s micro HD board. If you don't then stick with integra.... unless you cant help yourself when O4 comes out... see madstech
17:11 I have my Attitude V6 for analog. I can't have a digital blackout on an analog signal. I still want them, but I won't use them for analog unless I plan on a digital processing included. I feel ya' JB. We like the "fade to ant races" analog broadcast. At least it's an option.
I wish you'd actually measured the IPD at maximum distance using a pair of calipers...My current WS goggles are just not quite wide enough. Measure from the rim of one lens to the other...please...🤔😳😳😏🇬🇧
Joshua it's been a little while since your video comparing the range and penetration of various video systems. Do you find the new walksnail hardware performs well but slightly worse than DJI?
Thanks for the fair review we've been waiting for 🙏 For me it all looks something like this: "DJI is releasing a new generation soon, our marketing department should invent new goggles tomorrow, make holes for different ports in random places, talk about head tracking, wifi app and upgradeability in the future. We'll figure out later how this will all work. Hurry up, hurry up!"
i have goggles x, tbs fusion and the URUAV 5.8G RX PORT 3.0-PLUS Receiver Board. Anyone know why i cant see analog. I switched modes and see the snow. but thats it. I have same band on tbs module as drone. I can see video on my box goggles but not over the goggles x analog. Can someone help? I can hook it up to a tv and see perfect video, but nothing in the goggles.
This is because the Avata is required to broadcast the pilot's location for RemoteID, but the G2 doesn't have GPS built in. The Integra and G3 have GPS built in and don't need the phone.
Have you checked if you can receive video at 100fps and output hdmi at 60hz at the same time? I have the original walksnail goggles and if i set it to 100fps it won't output to a 60hz monitor (because the monitor doesnt support a 100hz signal) which is quite annoying EDIT: it was mentioned that it doesn't work, walksnail really needs to fix this
No that's not possible. The goggles won't do framerate conversion like that. I've asked WS and they basically said it can't be done. Not that it was entirely impossible, butr that the goggles couldn't be made to do it.
Ty for the answer man, well i am just new in fpv hobby i have just ordered my boxer max to begin training on simulator as soon as i receive it but i am already thinking for the goggles and drone for the drone i think i will start with a meteor 75 pro with walksnail vtx but for the goggles choice is so hard hdzero looks very cool but have to add the walksnail vrx it's starting to make some high money ^^

Well Kemosabe, I made a choice nearly two months ago (obviously still waiting for them, Ha, Ha) in the Walksnail Goggles X. I've resisted anything digital and have stuck with my Skyzone O4X for the last 3 years. I see you are certainly not keen on them for quite a few legitimate reasons. Thus I now have concerns, but I am also use to being putting it nicely,, disappointed with FPV products more so than not. Especially as the cost of items have grown exponentially vs quality being lackluster in reality. Part of the game I guess?? If you want to play in this theater of life then pay to play.
I love mine, but they're like the Nintendo nes of goggles. I can't even put them in my bag with the analog module on. Even with that feature, I still prefer bringing my skyzones for convenience.

@@ChrisHarmon1 They announced a 4k camera coming in their facebook group for next august maybe it will maybe not we will see.
Oct 2024... did the 5x range stuff come out? 😂
What is the cushy foam on your fat sharks? Looks like that would make any goggle more comfortable
Dji : silent and appear when they ready,
Walksnail : loud at every promises...
You're not wrong.
I finally decided on, and got dji system. Also finally got an ELRS controller...
I can handle 150$ alot easier than 300$
Like hdzero , hdmi to hdmi seems to either be too much loading for them or its literally a DRM prevention
I'm flying HDO's with a Furious True-Dx module. Don't anticipate any changes.
Wouldn’t it be cool if they had analog module bay built in
What are the best combination for camera TX and GOOGLES for rc aeroplane?
@yarbsfpv thank you for THIS comment lol. i'm about to buy a large HDZero lot based on JB's video on those goggles, and i just saw this video and it's more recent I was worried
@@gr3yh47 do note : for the sake of the most information, this dude Mayday.Aerial has a vid up from a few days ago where he does talk about a few issues specifically using the walksnail receiver with the hdz gogs.
Hi Master, my new Walksnail goggle x has double vision, how can I fix that? also the Focus mode in Display settings is not selectable, please help. Thanks,
Can you use these to practice on a sim? I would love to play Liftoff or Velocidrone with goggles instead of a monitor.
They have HDMI in
I pre-ordered the new goggles X and totally planned to use it with my hd0 quads I also plan to use it with my analog quads so I only have to haul these goggles and my DJI out to fly now I don't need to take three and four pairs of goggles
Is it stupid to have both DJI and Walksnail. My feeling is that dji still can’t do a 75 freestyle drone yet and walksnail is small enough and light enough. Thoughts ?
i would love to try out WS, however no live flight audio is a deal breaker for me
Analog it is!
@@JoshuaBardwell bwahaha yessirrie, 100% analog for me lol
I am still using the Fatshark HD2 from 2015 😅, just bought a hdzero receiver for it, very exited to try hdzero, and compare it to rapidfire analog.
Can this googles be used as VR set?
It looks like all basic hardware required for it is present.
It just requires proper software .
If i understand... Hdzero + walksnail vrx is better than walksnail googles x??? In less words of course, googles have the upgrade posibility
Try flying in 4:3 its just a little narrower than 16:9
Why not hold out for 2nd gen? 😅😊
Could the wifi capability be a way that they could integrate dvr through an app??
hey from August 2024, can we get another "State of Walksnail Goggles Address"?
What screen is that? Where can I get one?
Can I also connect and use an analog drone?
Hopefully, the OpenIPC FPV project will be wiping out all of these issues for the hobby the same as what ELRS did. Cheers
Fat Shark Dominator as of today $380. 4 antennas $80. Total $460. Goggle X = $460.
👍
Waiting for some manufacturer to take up the Open IPC and make it commercially viable solution for fpv.
Bardwell please look into caddx analog VRX module.
What is that?
All that Walk Snail has to do to beat DJI is make a google with a great comfortable fit where you can see the screen perfectly. Then get the 4k going. Oh and no stupid activations or fly apps or any of that stupid stuff. Then DJI RIP!!!! as far as FPV freestyle is concerned! They will always have their high tech super expensive plastic drones though. That fall apart if you look at them the wrong way.
I'm super happy with the HDO Goggles. Hard to get away from the 540@90
I think its personal preference analog is way cheaper to repair on the drone side than a digital system
Lets talk about the shirt (2nd half) today, I want to learn about that.
What FPV googles does Drone Racing League use?
Can you Wire a DJI HD camera to A Avatar HD VTX? I imagine it would be like putting a Canon lens on a Sony camera. Any improvement?
No that's not possible.
How do you see the setting of XR Glasses with HD VRX Module?
How did you get osd in your recording??? 14:00
Oh, wait.. no digital DVR?
Or it just records digital?
I'll watch this again.
The Goggles X Walksnail does not have analog DVR. It does have digital DVR.
@@JoshuaBardwell Thanks JB!
You cant take walksnal to the races though right? Like DJI you cant race with. Its only HDzero and analog that racing works with?
yes and yes
Ha I liked that ya called them Dji 03 goggles😅
I wish you'd actually measured the IPD at maximum distance using a pair of calipers...My current WS goggles are just not quite wide enough. Measure from the rim of one lens to the other...please...🤔😳😳😏🇬🇧
How do you get telemetry from your camera ?
Joshua it's been a little while since your video comparing the range and penetration of various video systems. Do you find the new walksnail hardware performs well but slightly worse than DJI?
Yes it's close to on par with V2/Vista, and noticeably not quite as good as O3/G2.
Great review man! 🍺🍺
its weird, I have a 144Hz Monitor that works this way over HDMI in Windows, but Walksnail doesn't work until I select "standard" framerate...
Thanks for the fair review we've been waiting for 🙏
For me it all looks something like this: "DJI is releasing a new generation soon, our marketing department should invent new goggles tomorrow, make holes for different ports in random places, talk about head tracking, wifi app and upgradeability in the future. We'll figure out later how this will all work. Hurry up, hurry up!"
where do they get these names?? 😕
What does he mean “A lot of people aren’t analog anymore”? Is that really the case, Anybody know the stats on this?
The V1 goggles do not include antennas. A nice set is about $75. So there really is no cost savings to buy V1s.
5x the range! The record is more than 50km, ok i will buy then 🤗
i have goggles x, tbs fusion and the URUAV 5.8G RX PORT 3.0-PLUS Receiver Board. Anyone know why i cant see analog. I switched modes and see the snow. but thats it. I have same band on tbs module as drone. I can see video on my box goggles but not over the goggles x analog. Can someone help? I can hook it up to a tv and see perfect video, but nothing in the goggles.
I have to plug a phone into my dji goggles 2 and avata, to get the drone to fly. Is this normal for all drones. I’m a noob.
This is because the Avata is required to broadcast the pilot's location for RemoteID, but the G2 doesn't have GPS built in. The Integra and G3 have GPS built in and don't need the phone.
Thanks a bunch for the review, Joshua! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
And happy holidays!
thanks again.
Have you checked if you can receive video at 100fps and output hdmi at 60hz at the same time?
I have the original walksnail goggles and if i set it to 100fps it won't output to a 60hz monitor (because the monitor doesnt support a 100hz signal) which is quite annoying
EDIT: it was mentioned that it doesn't work, walksnail really needs to fix this
No that's not possible. The goggles won't do framerate conversion like that. I've asked WS and they basically said it can't be done. Not that it was entirely impossible, butr that the goggles couldn't be made to do it.
Bluescreened about 1.5km out with my plane, digital goggles -> analog signal is iffy IMO
4:3 on a 16:9 display is pillar box
hi is it possible to save analog dvr with the built in dvr? or it just works for hd walksnail ?
The Goggles X do not have any ability to record analog video. You'd need to use some external device.
That sh#$% is hi tech, still rocking my Aomway goggles. They just won't die. 😊
knowing the force of your lenses i truely wonder what you look like without your glasses on i mean it changes someone's whole face to see the real size of your eyes
Dji o3 has the option to shrink the image?
Yes. Well, and it turns out so does Walksnail, but I forgot because I never used the option until now.
God bless you Josh
Problem with the hdzero goggles is they weigh a metric ton then you bolt on analog module and walksnail and you can’t stand up wearing them
I love mine, but they're like the Nintendo nes of goggles. I can't even put them in my bag with the analog module on. Even with that feature, I still prefer bringing my skyzones for convenience.
That fingerprint on the lens making my leg shake.
4:10 “A lot of people aren’t flying analog anyway”
According to Albert Kim’s poll about 1 in 3 does, and according to Painless360 poll almost 50% does. So yeah, a majority does fly digital, bust al lot of people still fly analog according to these polls.
But when you watch the UA-cam channels, it’s digital all over the place…
Perhaps because that is the area where are a lot of innovations? But as an analog pilot a lot of video’s aren’t relevant to me anymore 😕
What is review or talk about with analog? There has been nothing really new or innovative for a long time.
Speedy bee has a new receiver, I think there's a new Caddx or Foxeer camera - and I still fly both. My analog fully coated is waterproof and indestructable! The most reliable I have.
And I also saw that video of Painless, where he figured that he should still do content for his analog viewers.@@ChrisCroft77
Skyzone vrx
Speedybee vrx
Speedybee vtx....
Just the first test coming to my mind
No more test about analog, but always here for many oeople.
