He was a hero, the guy at the time for us Little League infielders. Everybody wanted to be him.

A-Rod didn’t sign with the Yankees in ‘04. He was traded to New York and was still on the 10 yr/ 252 million deal he signed to be a Texas Ranger.

I couldn't believe it when I opened my youtube home page and Derek Jeter finally got a "how good was" video. This man was one of the best players I've ever watched. Keep in mind 90% of this guy career was during the steroid era, and he never dabbled in any of that nonsense. He has 10+ seasons of 200+ hits, He's the all time leader in playoffs with wins, hits and runs, AND he just might be one of THE most clutch players of any sport, Jeter was made for big moments. One of the few knocks on his career was that he didn't win an MVP, (robbed in 2006, with a better team record, but he didn't hear nearly as many home runs as Justin Morneau). Other than that is his defense, yes if you look at stats he's bad, but half of this guys best highlights are defensive gems and he has 5 gold gloves cmon. The guy was a legend and he did it with grace , best short stop ever, best Yankee ever, best NY sports athlete ever. (He's my favorite player if you couldn't tell).

Thanks for watching the video and for your comment secrentninja! We just had to make a video about one of the most clutch and consistent players of all time. Great point that he did it in the steroid era and didn’t dabble in it one bit!

    Yankees fan here.
Derek Jeter got his captaincy back in 2003, three years long after the threepeat ended.

Everyone these days likes to talk trash about his range, which admittedly wasn't the greatest, but he rarely failed to make a play when it mattered. Often times making plays others wouldn't. Cal Ripken didn't have great range either. Instinct and clutch play are things that can't be taught.

Thanks for watching Tom and for your comment! You are absolutely right, his UZR was -66.1 but def made plays when it mattered. Jeter was a stud regardless and one of the most consistent players in the MLB.

Hold up, you were talking about his 3rd year in the minors and you are saying his defensive play was bad yet he won defensive shortstop of the year. Besides you saying he was bad you gave us no stats no quotes no nothing. As far as I'm concerned he played amazing, he won the defensive player of the year award.

Thanks for watching and for your comment cturner! No double Jeter was clutch and one of the all time greats. He never won the defense player of the year award but did get 5 golden gloves. In terms of stats is fielding percentage was .976 and his DRS was -152.
