There shouldn’t have been a rivalry. No one ever talks about A-Rod being a better defensive shortstop, but playing third base with no complaints.

It’s ironic that Jeter is known as the “ultimate team player” when he actively made his team worse for vanity (and sabotaged ARods potential accolades and stats at a much more celebrated position) meanwhile ARod sacrificed personal glory to appease Jeter (and his fans) like a real team player. ARod is definitely a weird corny guy but he did what was necessary to win.

@@ItsAllAboutGuitarin American sports (and possibly in other nations' sports as well, but I only follow American sports so I can't be certain) it is common for fans to refer to teams they support in the first person plural. This is because fans strongly identify with their favorite teams and especially by attending and watching games, buying merchandise, and generally being informed about their team's activities they feel like the concept of a team can be broadened to include the fan base as well.
Also, by saying "us" in this example it's a shorthand that avoids needing to say "the Yankees" while also still allowing the meaning to be clear.

Why? Doesn't shock me based on the age of average UA-cam users in general. I'm 28, I only saw bits and pieces of Jeter's true dominance. I also didn't see the absolute best of ARod when he was a young, god-tier 5-tool player in Seattle. But ARod was significantly better as a player the entire time I watched baseball. The year's this video highlighted when the Yankees were winning like crazy and Jeter at least had somewhat close stats to ARod (never really that close but much closer), very few young fans have any personal connection to because they didn't watch them live. We have inherited connections to those teams growing up with that group of players, but for many of us, they won 1 time in 2009 and that was ARod's ring easily. The only MVP caliber season Jeter put up was in the 90s. ARod was one of the 5 best players in the league basically every year of his career until after the suspension. From an on-the-field standpoint, most younger fans are going to prefer the significantly better player.

Worst Shortstop in MLB history but great hitter.
Good shortstop from his days in Seattle and Texas, way better hitter RBI and home run machine.
This was doomed from the start and Yankees are still paying reparations to this day. Jeter was the handpicked "captain" of the team but he was never a Tom Brady or Babe Ruth or Michael Jordan. He was just the face of a marketing campaign that was beloved by the fanbase. A Rod was the better player. The Yankees rolled out the red carpet for a better player and then demoted A Rod to Third Base just to satisfy Jeter. It was doomed from start. Yankees have reverted back to pre-Babe Ruth era under Hank and Cashman still making these bad decisions to ths day.

For me, A-rod is a much more "real" guy. He is flashy, arrogant, showy but he doesn't hide that. He is being true to himself and others around him. If he hates you, he tells you about it.
Jeter feels like a hypocrate and backstabber. He acts like he likes you even if he does not. He acts like a good person and takes passive aggressive stands all the time. He preys on being good guy and the victim. He is a phoney.
I much rather befriend with A-rod than Jeter. He is much more honest and real than Jeter.

    .300 BA
    40 HR
    120 RBI
    110 Runs
    .952 OPS
The only other Yankees in team history to ever achieve those numbers over 7 consecutive seasons were Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle. Yankee Fans: This A-Rod guy sucked as a Yankee 😂…. He won MVP in 05 & 07.
By the way, without A-ROD the Yankee Championship drought would currently stand at 23 years. Yankee fans are pathetic.
