Great video. I love how baseball video essays are becoming more and more popular. Seriously there are like 5-10 channels coming out with high quality baseball videos that I sub to.
Josh Hamilton came the closest of anyone that hitting five home runs in one game. It was May of 2012, Elvis Andrus got on base four times and every time, Josh Hamilton drove him in with a HR. In the fifth inning of that game, Josh Hamilton hit a double off of the wall with some top spin on it. Had that ball gotten up another couple of feet, or been hitting slightly higher, that would have been the fifth home run
@@zigmaster5199 That's not what he's saying. He's just saying that his 5th inning at bat was almost a home run. He had already hit 2 before the 5th inning at bat, and then hit 2 more after the 5th inning at bat. That ball one hopped to the wall though, and not off the wall.
I do wish he talked about Jose Bautista’s insane jump in home runs ngl 2010 and 2011 he hit over 90 home runs in two seasons after not hitting more than 15 in a single season
Growing up during the prime Bautista years, I would've loved to talk about him. But the video would've been 3 hours long if I went through every player who had a few absurdly good power hitting seasons. Tried to restrict myself to only league record significant players
I have not really been in to baseball the last couple years, now that my kids are in baseball I have been watching these videos and catching up. Thank you for the video, my oldest son and I watch all the time
As a Phillies fan thank you for including Bryce here but there's no way that'll happen with how old he is and where he's at currently. I'm certain he'll get to 500 though, and who knows maybe 600 if he stays in shape and eventually turns to DHing full time. Personally I'd take 3 to 5 more Octobers after this year over breaking the all time home run record.
One of my favorite “getting a leg up” stories was a weird one about when Brian Roberts had his breakout season they said he had special contacts in his eyes that emphasized the red stitching in the ball so he could see how it was spinning - & when they banned that he fell back to earth.
Really fantastic video dude. Quality is off the charts and the presentation is great. I can easily see this channel taking off in a major way this season if he continues to put out videos like this
postseason records are a bit paradoxical aren’t they - if you do well enough to hit a ton of home runs, it actually could hurt your chances of breaking the record because you’ll play less games
That's not necessarily true. More home runs doesn't mean you're winning (resulting in less games played). If you become an actual threat you're more likely to get the Bonds treatment which would result in less at bats due to intentional walks or unintentional intentional walks (being pitched around).
lol... all it took to subscribe to you was for you to intro the video with "we're finally landing" by HOME, literally my favorite artist. he follows me on twitter which is cool as well but yeah man great video!
Whats wild is that for as much an absolute freak as Bonds was, the worldwide career record for professional home runs is Sadaharu Oh in the NPB with a staggering 868. Nobody in the history of that league has ever come within 200 of him, and his personal best was 55 in a season, just a metronome of power hitting in a league not historically known for it.
I've always loved that record as well. For all that people want to treat japanese baseball as a quad A league, they have and had players of astronomical talent, AND seem to produce better pitchers than hitters on average. Makes their hitting records worth more in my opinion. You dont hear about career minor league/semi pro players putting up over eight hundo, and Oh definitely faced better competition than that comparison in a true professional league. Reminds me of ichiro having the professional hit record, but not the MLB record.
It's an impressive accomplishment. Shame that the NPB (including especially O himself as a manager) played dishonorably and often refused to pitch to foreign players that were close to breaking his single season record.
I dont get why people say "will never be broken". Sure, some HR stats and many pitching stats will *likely* never be broken due to pitchers just not pitching as much compared to the 1900s, but to say two players hitting back to back HRs in one inning will never happen again is a stretch. I mean, its happened once, so, bound to eventually happen a second time
Fun Fact: in 1998 Greg Vaughn was also in the race midway through the season. Vaughn hit 50 HR Griffey hit 56 HR Sosa hit 66 HR McGwire hit 70 HR Another Fun Fact: the following year in 1999 Soda hit 63 HR. In 2001 Sosa hit 64 HR. McGwire hit 65 HR in 1999. Everyone talks about Bonds taking steriods (and ignores that steroids dont enhance hand eye or consistency) but ignores the obviously doctored Ruth footage or lack of real record keeping from that era. If anyone thinks guys from that era achieved their records without outside help, they're lost and cannot be saved.
I mean it’s a video about the HR records, and those don’t happen without the steroids. By the time Ruth was playing, especially post WWI, record keeping was solid
Steroids don't make you better at making good contact but they help you recover faster, train harder, get stronger, and that pop up that might have hit the warning track is now a few rows into the stands. No one in their right mind should think Bonds wasn't one of if not the greatest hitter of all time. But to say that steroids didn't help him break that record is being wilfully ignorant imo
Steroids help you recover quicker, helps avoid injury and increases testosterone. Are you suggesting that Babe Ruth was taking performance enhancing drugs similar to Bonds? Please... they were still giving people cocaine for colds in those days ffs

It is also worth noting is while he did not tie the all time record for all players he did tie the second basemen record which is 3. Also with those 3 HR in 3 innings he became the 4 player in all of MLB to do that crazy stat.
Oh 5hr game...Bryce Harper did it, for the BoSox in The show 23, after a blockbuster trade that sent Chris Sale, and Trevor Story to the Phillies....👀🤣🤣🤣

It wasn't injuries that held their numbers back. It was war time for them. Mays would have surely passed Ruth before Aaron would have passed them both.
Hmm. Barry could have been a HOF first ballot before his jealousy of Sosa and Big Mac. Already had gold gloves, 40-40 club. Obviously could hit.
Babe Ruth was thrown out to end the World Series on a botched hit and run so I wouldn't out that on him.
The A's just went back to back in the same inning with the same pair of teammates doing so against the Rangers. What a time!
Aguilar and Rooker did it in 2 different innings, still an insane feat
Someone watches Summoning Salt!
