Thankfully the British Armed Forces are based on us being an island nation within allied defence pacts and a nuclear deterrence. To say the UK wouldn’t cope with 10% of the Ukrainian front line based on our mass is 100% accurate, we wouldn’t, but if the UK had a land border with Russia the capabilities and scale of UK armed forces would obviously be very different. The UK is and I hope will remain a close ally of Ukraine, with skills and professionalism that they can share in a safe training environment, while also gaining the opportunity to learn from the Ukrainians who are without doubt the current experts on this type of warfare. I’m a proud son and grandson of military parents and grandparents (including mother and grandmother), but I don’t go in for “British exceptionalism” as a rule. I think the British Armed forces culture is unique of course and deep down I think that, plus money is why the UK punches well above its weight.
The UK has the sixth largest GDP in the world. It spends 6% of its govt budget on defense, Russia spends 30%. In ww2, Britain spent 40%. In actuality, Britain alone could outspend Russia. We just want a functioning society.
@@shaun1463 The squeeze on military budgets since the early 90's has improved efficiciencies and innovation in the British Military. Its a bit like Christmas to be getting fractions of percent of GDP budegtry increses never mind 1-2% and the ability to further modernise fleets in the 3 strands. There is now the opportunity to fill manpower shortages that are restricting deployment of assets and saw naval vessels in dock rather than on patrol. After the First World War there absolutely was a first, if not unique today, culture of every life matters and the fostering of real comraderie that leads to the sort of exceptionalism you allude to. The British Army in particulary had experience of unconventional warfare at home in Northern Ireland that stood to them in Iraq and Afghangistan - it is interesting that Ukraine is showing how to fight conventional war unconventionally, scaring quite a few western militaries in to rethinking how future wars can be fought in a low tech manner and not only as an arms race. On a different issue, as a NHS ED grunt, greater spending will always be a help but like in a military sphere it depends on how it is spent. To start, people need to be seen as a primary resource and invested heavily in, access to education including rolling back university fees, targeted education in key and understaffed sectors WITH the ability to retain those skillsets. I would say academic and economic integration with key and neighbourig allies with joint up thinking on social resilience, eg securing regional supply chains, deling with climate change, countering cyber threats, international crime, multi country asylum apllicants by individuals - so ironiclly membership of a likeminded bloc like the EU, more likeminded that a different, macro interests rather than pushed micro domestic issues of migrant resentment, postcode envy, and a generally unhappy society that drove Brexit on the back of a pet project, driving big wedges in to the small cracks in society like on EU legal reach where in reality there was always a veto on legal overreach. They will say there is record spending happening across societal services but in real terms there isnt. Looking at why the biggest council authority in Europe is bankrupt, why funding isnt delivering frontline progress, why growing unrest and anger is still present post Brexit etc. Many issues that can be exploited by foreign players to exploit tbh by driving an information agenda away from social cohesion....the happening battle on the homefront maybe?
@@shaun1463 They have a lot to do to get back the facilities that BLiar stripped to fund his new golden age before sending our men and women into Iraq and Afghanistan, to scrounge equipment from our allies out there 🤬
I agree with the masterclass assessment. I have thought for some time that the Ukranian army is the finest in the world. When this is finished, their methods will be studied for decades. Superior army of men and women.
As the largest country in the world, Russia would have the most to lose in a nuclear conflict, which is a risk they are likely aware of. In the event of a nuclear strike, they would stand to lose the most territory in the world, a fact they understand, making it highly unlikely they would take such a risk. Their country would be dived into many pieces, the risk that is not worth of taking to gain Ukrainian Land. They will not risk Nuclear for this reason. West should not fell for it; it is only propaganda to steal Ukrainian Land without any serious consequences. Putin may be Mad but not to such a degree, he surly loves Russia and he understand what will happen with it if nukes would come into play. Don't fell for Russian propaganda please

I sort of agree... But the more countries that allow the weapons they have donated to be used across the border to attack military targets the more pressure there will be on the US to do the same..
NATO should send troops to Ukraine, as Macron has mentioned. Putin has shown his hand on SO MANY levels, he has already declared war w/o actually doing so. A small compliment of highly trained NATO forces would be decisive, and send a clear message to the Russian people what's at stake. Combating Putin's aggression in Ukraine would call his hand TOTALLY. Enough appeasement.

Apparently the group of Ukrainian pilots who went to the US to train have completed the courses, and are flying F16s perfectly well. They have now gone on to somewhere in Europe (I forget where) to do further advanced training, ie. the special tricks that make things happen when needed. I think it might have been the Netherlands who said their donated F16s could be arriving in Ukraine in June. There has been a bit of obsfucating across the board upon the exact delivery period in the media, and possibly for good reason in times of war. Though these processes probably take longer than it should.
I once heard a former F-16 pilot float the idea of mercenary pilots. Considering Russia’s use of glide bombs and indiscriminate bombing of civilian targets I think it’s time for Zelensky to request such volunteers and for Western governments not to stand in the way of their citizens answering the call to fly fighter aircraft for Ukraine.
India's SU30 won all trainning battles against American and European jets. The ancient Indian MIG 21 destroyed Pakistan's F16 in a real fight a few years ago 😎
Ukraine is facing significant challenges that demand urgent attention and resolution. To address these issues, we must not fixate solely on victories but also broadcast our shortcomings to the public. Ukraine is visibly struggling, while the West diverts its attention and resources to support Palestinian terrorists who do not share Western values. Meanwhile, Ukrainians, who align with our values, are left with inadequate resources and support, stranded in their time of need.

@@stephenhill545 to be fair higher spending doesnt correct things in UK. I mean look at every service. They will say they are spending record amounts.

Wt does it take to embarrass a Russian, I’m stumped,
As the largest country in the world, Russia would have the most to lose in a nuclear conflict, which is a risk they are likely aware of. Don't fell for Russian propaganda please
truth. The same for Kim of North Korea. He enjoys life too much to actually have a nuclear war. He loves his lobster, french bubbly, NBA, fine brandy and hollywood films.

NATO should send troops to Ukraine, as Macron has mentioned. Putin has shown his hand on SO MANY levels, he has already declared war w/o actually doing so. A small compliment of highly trained NATO forces would be decisive, and send a clear message to the Russian people what's at stake.
Ukraine is facing significant challenges that demand urgent attention and resolution. To address these issues, we must not fixate solely on victories but also broadcast our shortcomings to the public. Meanwhile, Ukrainians, who align with our values, are left with inadequate resources and support, stranded in their time of need.

At its greatest extent, the front ran some 440 miles (700 km) from the Belgian coast at Nieuwpoort, through France, and all the way to the border of Switzerland, just south of the Alsatian village of Pfetterhouse. The contours of the line reflected the extent of German success during the war.9 May 2024
