It's interesting for me, as a Chinese person who has always lived in this country, to hear about different experiences. Because of my business trips, I regularly take high-speed trains. I heard that you complained about the air conditioning in VIP class because it was too hot. However, I always need to wear more layers in second class. I think the key reason is that we have different temperature requirements. Maybe you can ask the attendant to adjust the temperature. I believe they will be glad to help you because it's their responsibility. Additionally, to avoid crime and other unnecessary trouble, I advise you to order a taxi using a mobile app (like Didi, similar to Uber in the USA) in advance or wait in line outside the station.

U can choose the seat in advance (window seat or aisle seat) when you buy the ticket from the app before you confirm the payment. I suggest u to ask the hotel front desk to teach u next time. It's very easy.
It is kinda unpredictable when you are purchasing multiple tickets hoping to sit together because the seats setup is different on every train. In some cases, 3A and 4A are in different cabins, even though there is only one row difference. In some cases, you cannot walk from cabin 7 to 8 because they happen to be the bullets' head connecting each either.
"Always welcome you ,guys" Meanwhile, CCP propaganda: Foreigners are to be blamed for all your problems and woes, and certainly not us and certainly don't go stabbing foreigners whom we are telling you 24/7 that are the literal devil.
@@shunchi691 I respectfully disagree. For one, the increasingly unpredictable weather patterns is causing significant flight delays/cancelations which would not occur as often with rail. Having a high speed rail alternative might also introduce more price competition with the air alternative that might bring down air travel prices. Ultimately, it would be preferable for Americans to have the choice of rail vs. air.
And one thing you forgot to do on the train - make a coin stand on the tray table. The train is designed to make it smooth and stable so that even a coin can stand properly when it runs.
In China, there is a special software for buying tickets for high-speed trains, on which you can buy tickets online and choose your favorite seat. If the software doesn't support passport purchase (I haven't tried to use passport purchase), you can also explain to the conductor when you buy offline that you want and your favorite location, or if you have a companion, you can ask the conductor to arrange you together. Of course, because of the large number of travelers in China, it is recommended to arrange the trip one day in advance, so that the possibility of buying the desired seat is greater.
If you feel hot in the train compartment, you can tell the train attendant and they will help you adjust the compartment temperature. Generally speaking, the temperature of the train compartment will be adjusted to a temperature that most people feel comfortable. If there is a special request, such as someone feels too cold or too hot, and no one else objects, the attendant will agree to your request.
13:20 The pink thing could possibly be called a ‘toilet seat opener’ in English, which can be used to open the toilet lid more conveniently and hygienically.😁
Thanks! I guess in Australia we don’t really do this so I don’t think about it. It just stays at 21-23c all the time and people adjust to that - asking to turn it up or down might make others uncomfortable and not inconveniencing others is a big thing where I’m from. Cultural differences I guess ☺️
Regarding the allocation of seats on the HSR, the situation is as follows: in case there are spare seats, if two tickets are booked at the same time, these two seats will usually be arranged together. However, if the seats are tight or if someone refunds the ticket, it is possible that the two seats are not next to each other. You can look at the seat numbers before you pay, and if you think there's a problem, you can cancel the payment and repurchase. This method also applies if you need a window seat.
In some small cities in China, there are always illegal taxi(we call them black taxis) drivers who come to chat you up at the station. We locals hate them too. The next time you see them, you can reply "no" seriously and they will go away. Remember to choose a formal way to leave the station. Using the Didi app to call a taxi anywhere is the right choice. Every station will have a pick-up area for Didi platform drivers, and the platform will pay attention to your safety throughout the journey.
The best thing of High speed railway is to enjoy the scene outside of train, lot of terrains, mountains, villages... you could enjoy those views without delay
Actually there are mainly two different types of business class on the high speed railways, the one you take is the early version, it has less privacy than the new version which has a room for your own. But the new version of business class is only seen on the latest trains which usually just appear on the lines that connecting two big cities. If you see the sign of something like "smart" trian, that's definitely the new version one, so maybe you can try them again sometime.(you can just go for a very short ride and that will be very affordable, that's what we often do to try new products on the trains).
Seems like the business class seat was worth it. Looks very comfortable! But wow regardless of what seat, the train is so fast! I found the example of Riverside train background noise reduction very useful too. Thanks for sharing.
it's tibet, there's a video on her second channel where she spends the entire day buying altitude sickness medicine and thick clothing. The essential package is likely the travel permit to tibet.
Yes and no, normally in groups it's assigned by automatically, probably in the order in which the booking was received. To get seats next to each other just head to any HSR station in advance and have them get the seats you want. I think some booking platforms can actually do this for you by request for a charge.
@@GeorgeForman-i9t “normally in groups it's assigned by automatically” Not really. They only do that if there is no seat that meets your requirement. U can choose whatever seat u want booking online if there's enough seat. Such as , if u have 2people u can choose to seat side by side or one in the front and one in the back so u can both sit next to the window. Same logic for more.
The pink ribbon on the toilet seat has two functions. The first function is to make it convenient for people to lift the toilet seat without touching it directly, as many men prefer to lift the seat and urinate while standing rather than sitting down when using this type of toilet. So they need to extend and lift the toilet seat. The second reason is that when the seat is put down, it sometimes makes a loud noise when it hits the toilet. This rubber handle can also absorb some of this noise.
@@josieliftsthings you can get a translation app , although not perfect, but work most of time. for example, when you feel hot in the high speed train, don't be shy to talk to a crew member through the translation app. the crew member will help you resolve it easily. same thing for some other issues you ran into. Have a happy trip in China😀
I'm glad you are keeping it real and sharing your honest opinion. I as a Chinese also don't enjoy the borderline harassment when I get out of the airport/train station. It can get really annoying, especially for people who don't feel good about rejecting others. Regarding the AC, most Chinese never buy the idea of "22~23 Celsius is the most comfortable temperature" for some reason. Chinese, especially the elders and women, are more used to 26 Celsius either because of energy saving or because they are just more used to it. Some also believe that getting blasted by cold air is very bad for one's body, especially the joints.
Welcome to China. You can not only go to cities, but also to natural scenic spots. To be honest Recently, the scenery of Xinjiang province has attracted many tourists

Thank you for this level headed comment - I’m glad you can see that I just am truthful either way, I think that’s the best way to go about anything in life ❤️
Kunming despite being the capital of the "poorest" or the second most poorest province of China still is a very very wonderful livable and gorgeous city. The Kunming metro is nothing like Shanghai metro so Cab drivers would come up to you which many Chinese literally prefer that. as guessing you went to Kunming South station which is at the very outscart of the city so pretty understandable. In the age of DiDi, you don't need that tho but still many people over there are pretty tradition. I love Kunming weather more than anywhere else in China.
China just got 2 different new variants of High speed trains. They have way better first and business class seats and you should definitely try next time.
We have less than 30 million people and it’s so far between our major cities. It couldn’t run frequently enough to be worth it I don’t think. Maybe between Newcastle and Sydney only. Australians enjoy driving and it’s normal for us to drive 2-3 hours without thinking it’s too far. Maybe if our population grows.
Different people have different heat tolerance, and it's probably just you two are feeling it more. You can always ask the crew on the train to adjust the air conditioning. But that said, there could be others feeling a bit cold if they do. So it's going to be a balance act. It's a train serving general public at the end of the day so things like temperature needs to cater to most people not just some.
I don't know whether you can book the tickets on 携程(trip) where you could choose a preferred seat. If there're seats available, you would very possibly get your preferred seats. But there's a larger number of tourists here, so you need to book it in advance, the earlier you book the easier you can choose your preferred seat.
I think you guys got a unique first class seat. The first class seats do not typically look like this, they are like the second class seats but bigger and not in a room with those kinds of tables
omg I don't understand the 24 hours time format either ahahaha. That made me laugh because I have to constantly ask my wife what time is it whenever I see a 24 hours format time. I understand the struggle 🤣🤣🤣

Before you confirm your payments you can choose window seats or aisle seats . The train tickets in china only can be chosen like the above said. Btw, if someone asks you need a ride or take taxi in train station, better say no and call on app like Gaode map or Didi(kinds of Uber). And of course in mainland China Google doesn't work , but you could download Gaode map or Baidu map, you could call taxi or Uber or book hotel or train tickets on it. Have safe and nice trip in China
Those maps are in Chinese - not very helpful to tourists ☺️ Regarding the seats, I’ve written this reply to many people already who are also mistaken. You can have a look for it.
@@josieliftsthingsmaybe try going to the ticketing counter before the trip. It works at any station. We did it with a 13 person trip. All our seats were randomly scattered about. (you see your seat numbers once the tickets are issued) As there were kids, we wanted to all sit together. We tried to call to have the seats rearranged but was told we had to take all our tickets to the a ticketing counter and they arranged it for it. Since we were a pretty big group we did do this several days in advance. But it seems you have your itineraries planned out in advance, so you can probably do it for your next trip when your going to or leaving the station. One issue is the language barrier. For the vip rooms I'm not sure what was the issue? Was it because of people randomly changing? This you won't have control of. But for your own seats, these shouldn't be changing.
It was more just disappointment - we got VIP and honestly would have preferred just normal first class haha. The pictures had business class seats on 12306 😂 It was just a bit awkward and stuffy, normal first class I think is a better option ☺️
The one time I went there I had to order online with everything in Chinese and no way to order. The lady bought the coffee for me and then I couldn’t transfer the money because my WeChat wouldn’t let me pay an individual in China, only a business. It was annoying 😂😂😂
@@josieliftsthings Sorry to hear that. But China has a population of 1.43 billion, and primary language is Chinese. Despite growing in Australia, I had to learn Chinese to get around in China and order things around. Since you have WeChat now, there is translation function built-in. That may help you on your journey.
@@josieliftsthings I agree. This is actually a bit annoying even when I have no language barrier. There was a Luckin coffee in my hotel lobby and I just could not order it from the staff directly. But to be fare, the streamlined process is essential to cost reduction, giving them a competitive edge.
I'm from India. And everything in China looks more technologically advanced. But also train journey looks expensive, specially if it not air conditioned.
You can tell if you got a window by the seating code. A&F is by the windows, C&D is aisle. China railway system is more of a utility than a business, so they don't have much better services for higher pricing tickets. I think that will gradually improve.
There is a misunderstanding about the air conditioner on the train. The train, definitely is equipped with air conditioner and would be turned on if necessary. But as you can see,the train attendant even gave you a blanket ,because it was a bit chilly for most Chinese at the season. The body constitution is quite different between western people and Chinese people. Chinese people tend to get protein from white meat(like chicken、fish),while western people eat more red meat(beef, lamp ,etc). And red meat eaters tend to feel hot ,while white meat eater is easy to feel cold.
@@josieliftsthingsReally? it's unlucky. But why? I used this service almost every time, because I really can not bear the food cooked in train. I see. Did you pass the ordering time? There are only few stations where the takeout food can be delivered to the train. If you didn't order food in time and passed those stations, you will lose the chance.
@@josieliftsthings You can only order from your upcoming major cities/stations en route. It is usually recommended that you check the menu and order as soon as you board. What happened to you was mostly likely, there were no major cities ahead, or there was no time left for them to prepare the food to deliver to the platform before your train arrives.

Yeah. The food on the high-speed rail is not good and expensive. I prefer to bring bread or snacks to get energy if traveling a long-distance. Pull down the curtains when the sun shine fiercely.
@@josieliftsthingswas it the hours or you're too close to the next station? The food you're ordering from should be just for the restaurants at the stations so it's within those working hours. As a very very general rule, Southerners like eating rice and Northerners love noodles. Obviously you can buy noodles in the south and rice in the north, but the north may have more noodle places available.
there's a limit to the luxury to the "luxury 1st class" in China as there are just too many people and so is the demand for that so they need to pack as many people as possible to meet the demand.if you think European luxury is there(where population density aint that much) that will disappoint you. Afterall these are actually basic need nothing fancy phoney about it.
Tip on Taxi 🚕hacklers: unfortunately in mid size cities, there are still a lot of free agent taxis (good for individuals I guess), A great way to say no, that I practice is put up a minimal smile. They will know right away that you know you are on top of it, and that you know your way around, even if you don't, lol. Some of us here mentioned that it is difficult to understand why you said the train ticket seats are confusing. Im not sure what online platform you used to book the ticket. But normally if you book 2 tickets together, it will automatically put your seats adjacent to each other, given they are still available. So the seat configuration is not important, you will have your seats together.

U can choose the seat in advance (window seat or aisle seat) when you buy the ticket from the app before you confirm the payment. I suggest u to ask the hotel front desk to teach u next time. It's very easy.
Hi! I’ve already explained this multiple times to other people like yourself who are incorrect in this instance ☺️
You can read those replies!
Not the case with VIP, the configuration changes a lot
It is kinda unpredictable when you are purchasing multiple tickets hoping to sit together because the seats setup is different on every train. In some cases, 3A and 4A are in different cabins, even though there is only one row difference. In some cases, you cannot walk from cabin 7 to 8 because they happen to be the bullets' head connecting each either.

I strongly suspect that we in the US will sadly never have high speed train in our own country for many, many, MANY years to come.
isnt TGV already building in USA?
If the Communist Party could lead the US people, many large projects would be implemented.
US has the largest air travel network, does't really need high speed train considering the population density.
@@shunchi691Considering Boeing's huge profits, they will lobby Congress to prevent the construction of high-speed rail
Regarding the temperature, actually you can have requested the crew to adjust 😅

Welcome to Kunming, hope you guys enjoy your journey and have a joyful experience in Yunnan.

In Xian, you should try Han Costume of Tang Dynasty, one for lady and another for warrior.

When you book the ticket online, you have option to choose the seat you prefer. If someone wants to exchange, it is up to your decision. That is it.

Regarding the AC, most Chinese never buy the idea of "22~23 Celsius is the most comfortable temperature" for some reason. We have less than 30 million people and it’s so far between our major cities. It couldn’t run frequently enough to be worth it I don’t think. Maybe between Newcastle and Sydney only. Australians enjoy driving and it’s normal for us to drive 2-3 hours without thinking it’s too far.

Different people have different heat tolerance, and it's probably just you two are feeling it more. You can always ask the crew on the train to adjust the air conditioning. @@josieliftsthingsmaybe try going to the ticketing counter before the trip. It works at any station. We did it with a 13 person trip. All our seats were randomly scattered about.
