- I need a belt tensioner compression tool to help with belt removal and reinstallation as I'm going back and forth working on different parts of the engine. I made one out of hardware from my local Lowe's Home Improvement for under $15.
This is all part of owning a 9000, used mine several times since I made it. Belts are easy to change with one of these - worst part for me is the removal/refit of the plastic wing liners.
Yes, the plastics are a pain. I dread when the time comes to reassemble the front plastics. That job, though, is a quick job compared to dropping the oil pan on this 08 BMW 535xi AWD.
Gonna do this tomorrow. Is it possible/enough space to use a suspension spring tensioner instead? Or jack up the lower part of the tensioner with a jack? You just need to lift the bottom a bit to fit the belt, not all the way.
You might be able to use jack but it will be under a load at an angle with only a thin M6 nook to grab. The tool is the easiest way. You can try with a wrench to rotate the tensioner up on the idler wheel. Someone else to hold it while you slip the belt off the AC compressor
@@Ryengoth I see. I don't have the materials to make a tool and the spring tensioner is the only alternative I have, if it fits. I just bought a car and someone took the whole assembly off, could not find the tensioner anywhere - though I only looked for a minute, so I don't even know if there's anything to compress till I get one.
Good to know you can do it the old fashioned way with a wrench too. Guess tomorrow is gonna be interesting.
ive always hated doing 9k serp belts
There is just no easy way in that tight space. The compression tool makes it sooo much easier.
That gives me an idea for another give-away. I have plenty of tube left to make another one. :D
