- "We Close Our Eyes" is a song by British pop band Go West, composed by both members Peter Cox and Richard Drummie. It was the first single from their debut album Go West. "Missing Persons", also from the album, was a B-side. The other B-side was an "opposite song" called "They Open Their Noses". The 12-inch release featured a remix by Julian Mendelsohn. subtitled the "Total Overhang Club Mix".
The single was promoted by a music video directed by Godley & Creme.
The "Total Overhang Club Mix" was later included on the 1985 compilation Bangs & Crashes. The standard version appeared again on Aces and Kings: The Best of Go West in 1993.
"We Close Our Eyes" spent fourteen weeks on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 5 in April 1985. In the United States the single reached 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 5 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.
A remix of the song was released in 1993 to promote the Aces and Kings retrospective.
The song was used in the 1985 Italian horror movie Dèmoni.
In live versions of the song, the guitar break in the "Overhang Mixes" is often included.
One of the most powerhouse vocalists of all time. Seriously, what a performance.
im 19 born in 1992 and the more searching i do for 80s the more i become a fan. This song is just pure bliss.
Aww Bless your not 19 anymore
It usually takes a couple of years before a new decade starts to define itself. You could say that you were born, when the 90’s were still the 80’s....
@@tsckewl 100% I'm 33 and was born in 1990, and the 80's felt like the early 90's.
@@chrismassey7783lol
I beat y'all I was born 1980. 12 in 1992. The best of times.
This is what great music sounds like.
I agree
My late sister’s favorite song. I had been searching for this one for 12 years and finally found it!
I bet you did
One Saturday morning in 1985 I saw Go West performing this on Going Live on TV. That afternoon I went to Our Price in Watford with my Dad to buy it. Still have it.
Level 42 and Go West were both bands with that "Radio-Friendly White-Soul sound" Two groups that really stood out in the Synth age.
im 34 and my dad loved go west and level 42 and i had the tune call me in my head for days and forgot about go west. i like music from level 42 and go west is defo the same vibe i love it.
Agree and it's 2021 and I still smash both!
Both bands had great lead vocalists.
Absolutely ❤
I grew up with level 42 and go west, my old dear was mad on them. Great bands!👌🏻
What a voice Peter Cox had and still has to this day.. These guys should have been much bigger than they where.. Remember discovering him whilst watching Reborn in The USA, and he came second to Tony Hadley from Spandu Ballet.. He is definitely in the same bracket as Tony.
i remember seeing GO WEST here in perth western australia way back in 2003 and yes they still sounded great such an amazing sound and songs from 1985
Summer of 84 ( think) I was so digging these guys. Glad some remember!
Demons used this song in the movie from 1985 too
GO West is mad underrateddd
Movie DEMONS🔥
I blast this along with The Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News on a regular basic. Two absolute fist pumping classics!
Try listening to Huey Lewis and the news' "But It's Alright", the studio version. Not to be confused with their similarly titled song "It's Alright". I just can't get enough of it.
I love their hit songs "We Close Our Eyes", "Call Me" and "Missing Persons". Great album reminding me of some great times in my youth(early to mid 80's)!
I first heard this song in the movie Demons and never forgot the song or the movie.
Omg suddenly I'm back in my youth, happy days.
This is a perfect song.
I don't think I'll ever stop loving this song! 😂💃💃
Totoro!
Love me some Totoro! 😄
Same here!
Me either!!!🥰🥰🥰
"SAME"...
Honestly, one of, if not my favourite songs of all time, up there with the Spinners' working my way back to you and Elvis' rendition of bridge over troubled water
Inside everyone hides one desire
Outside no one would know
Danger close to edge of the knife
Safer not to let go
And while we miss chances
You can almost hear time slipping away
We close our eyes we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes to time slipping away
No show Wednesday girl waits with the wine
She knows just what to say
While no one listens
You can almost hear time slipping away
We close our eyes we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes and
We can talk to strangers
We are burning with the spark
And we can walk on water
We are tigers in the dark
We are burning
We close our eyes
Heroes never give into the night
He knows how far he can run
And as he surrenders
You can almost hear time slipping away
We close our eyes we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes
This debut album is hot😊😊😊😊
my mum in shoulder pads and my dad had a pink shirt dancing in the kitchen listening to the radio... Love the 80's

I bought my first Casette sized Walkman in 1984 and played this album, Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw, Tears For Fears and AHa on repeat, lol
love this song from my teen years...
Morbid Angel Totally agree and same! 13 in 1985.
im 34 now and my dad loved go west, i remember a few of there tracks. i also like level 42. good 80s tracks.
I have the vinyl album, still love to play it!
30 years later, loved this time of my life. Happy 60th birthday Pete even though you don't look it.
His voiceeeeeee 😩
Soooo many memories! Absolutely loved Go West. They weren't nearly as popular here in the States. But they were HUGE in England! I'm an Anglophile anyway. So I loved them, too.
most horrible days of my life. best music ever recorded. take the good with the bad i guess.
Damn what happened?
powerful sound and voice i was pregnant with my first and amazing son Liam when this record came out! grateful memories to Go West!
Never gets old.
Used to tape this of the UK top 40 chart show, trying not to get the DJ talking over it...!
Those were the days...
;)
One of the greatest songs of the 80's. Go West are badass !
❤❤A BAILAR OCHENTEROS ,LO MEJOR ..😊
awesome tune from the 80's!
if this was released now, it would totally rock!""""
Or get buried under a shit ton of the stuff we have now and not even break top 20. Kids now would rather listen to someone who hides behind an autotuner or overcompensates for their crap dancing by all but stripping
This tune came out at the right time and doesn't sound too dated.
as long as the promo featured fashion models scantily clad..
And the world wised up to the merits of a decent melody!
Hulk2k6 kids need to see the video to judge a song…..most kids that is. which is sad
+Hulk2k6 this is when record companies wanted to build bands, not hits and "marketing." Autotune needs to be shoved up every executive's ass sideways, in my opinion. This still sounds fresh and wonderful as the day it was released, April 14, 1985. I have it on cassette tape and treasure it.
The Governator give 'em hell, Gov! LOL and who doesn't like foo fighters? If you don't like foo fighters (and bacon, too haa haaa) i can't be your friend.
This song reminds me of the movie demons (1985) it was on the soundtrack
Soya22181 You have great music and film taste.
Demoni by Lamberto Bava and Produced by the maestro Dario Argento .
Every gram!👿🏔️🏂
Where Bava and Argento blood meet Go West.
I'm 20 yrs old and I LOVE this song :D Wish I was born in the 70's so I could enjoy the 80's :D
Thomas Bailey If my mom survived all of that plus Trump and a global pandemic and she's only 52, I'm sure I would've done good in the 70-80's.
@@Haze0119 Trust me you'd have loved it, sure we had our problems including the spectre of AIDS but it was an amazing time.
takes me back to my 20'a!! loved this band.

I'm 14 Years Old, Who Loves Hip Hop, R&B Or Anything In The Charts.... But I Got To Say..... I Absolutely LOVE This Song!!!
I'm 13 but I grew up with musical parents. This is my childhood too as I dont even know any modern songs.
Sleepover SOS I was 13 in 1985.. glad u enjoy the same stuff. We had great films then too.. Goonies, Wierd Science, Rollerball, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Breakfast Club, Back to the Future, Dirty Dancing. We almost had nuclear war with the Soviet Union.. Anyway was a fun era.
The cheese coming of this is perfect
Best music for me and my teenage years was Defoe the 80s music
Good song!!! Remember this from the discos in the 80's ;-))

Great album!!! A cut, WAY above most of the other bands of the '80s! So is their 2nd LP
"Dancing on the Couch 1987!
Good 80' !!
ive always loved this song
This really bought spring 1985 alive for me. I now regret not, going to the local record shop to get it.
I was a punk at the time.. Doc Martins.. torn jeans way too short in the leg.. Ex-Military khaki jacket covered in graffiti.. Terribly gaunt face from sniffing too much EvoStick and a massive multicoloured mohican hairdo.. but I had a dirty little secret... It was GoWest.. Sneaking out the Coop with GoWest-GoWest album in a bag, I bumped into all my punk mates.. 'What Album you got in there then?' Never lived it down and credibility shot for life. Probably saved me from a 'sticky' end though ;)
I can honestly think of few songs that go HARDER than this, nothing held back.
As an aside the principle lines in the Lyrics, 'We close our eyes, we never lose again. Imagination never lets us take the blame' are actually really nuanced and packed with meaning. It's not necessarily a positive thing, never acknowledging failure? Winning at all costs? Not taking responsibility for anybody you've hurt along the way? Thought provoking stuff.
This got me through grad school. So beautiful and powerful. The lyrics if you listen carefully can evoke tense and tenuous nuclear negotiations between two superpowers. Am I nuts?
Heard it on the movie demons very catchy
This should be on Non Stop Pop FM
Stfu nobody nowadays has taste
?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° ) You mean the GTA 5 radio station, right?
yea
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° ) Or Just Request it over and over on Gen X-stream! :)
And This Song Made Me Think For A While That It And The Artist(s) Would Be American... The Way It Sounds Makes Me Feel That Way
There was a version of this tune on UA-cam, slightly different. It had a bass drop before the main tune enters and the drums were more crispy. I'm looking for that for God knows how long...
I think that might have been the 1993 remix which Magic 105.4 (UK station) seem to prefer to use.
Cute and cuddly track with lot of spunk xxx
The intro's really good.
Only 529k views. Howard Jones' 'things can only get better' is a great track, but 10M to 529k? Come one people!
Synths a lot! that's one helluva personal touch causing 80's it's one and only..! just checking 1:13..that 'cyber-cat' synth sound reminds me of it! Thanks!
One of my fav songs.
I love this song heh
Love Go West
Have the album...listen to it often....
Nosotros cerramos nuestros ojos...aguantee go west..

I first heard this song from the 1985 Italian horror classic Demons! The scene where the punks are riding through the city snorting cocaine!🤣🤪🤣
