We saved $1600 by painting our own kitchen cabinets with Sherwin-Williams Pro Block Primer and Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel. The green color is amazing, and we are so happy with how everything turned out!
Sherwin-Williams Products Used:
Pro Block Primer
Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel in Alexandrite SW 0060
Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel in a custom formulation of Extra White SW 7006 + 3oz White
We love the color that you chose for the cabinets! We're so glad our Super Finish Max and Large Spray Shelter could help you with this project.
Absolutely awesome work here..thank you for the great paint prep tips
Good Day All..I used the 2 mm tip with black air cap...no thinning was required. The emerald went on with a tad bit of orange peel, but leveled out to a smooth finish. In my experience (only cabinet doors ) there needs to be enough paint on the surface in order to level out. I used the Emerald in a semi gloss finish and I was concerned it would be too glossy and show all the imperfections..however it turned out great.
I hope this information help as I could not find the answers when researching.
Looks beautiful !
You know more than a lot of contractors! Great video. I am using the same Sherwin Williams products with the exception of the primer. I am using Bin, from Zinsser. It’s an alcohol-based and shellac based primer that dries super quick. I put two coats of primer and to finish coats and sanding in between. Great job! You get 2 enthusiastic thumbs up for this video.
Wow great job! I do not think a pro could have done better. You have given me the confidence to buy that Homeright sprayer to do cabinets. The reviews I have read were mostly good on the sprayer with a few exceptions but I was still undecided. The key most likely for success is the use of high quality paints. Btw I usually don’t give safety comments, but as a previous poster said you need a respirator when dealing with oil paints and also eye protection.
The cabinets came out beautifully! I love the combination of the green and the brass! Vintage, but updated! We are looking to move just outside of Richmond (Midlothian, VA) next year and watching your videos each week make me more and more excited to move!
Hooray! Thank you!
Hooray! I am so happy to hear that! This is an amazing area!
3:03 Dexter would be proud, nice Kill Room
Looks awesome!!
That's a pretty color! Your kitchen looks GREAT!! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Thank you so much!
So happy with how it is turning out!
Did you need to thin the Emerald paint before spraying? What sprayer did you use and what settings? Thanks.
Your finished cabinets look great! Beautiful kitchen! One question: did you have to thin the Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel with water in order for the sprayer to give you a smooth finish? I'm looking for a sprayer that will spray the Emerald *without* thinning (Sherwin Williams says not to thin it at all). Thanks.
So informative, thanks for sharing! 😄
You're welcome! Thank you for watching!
I am pretty sure the Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel is water based.
It is, I have used it extensively and thin it with water.
Hey! Great video. Ended up picking up the same sprayer based off your recommendation. I'm painting cabinets as well and have read that you need to thin out the paint and primer. I'm using the same paint you did. My questions is, did you experience any bumps that needed to be sanded down after priming? And did your pain level out after you sprayed? Thanks so much for the recommendation and the video!
Great video, thanks for sharing. It looks like you sprayed your cabinets with the Home Right Super Finish Max Sprayer. I too am doing a project using this spray gun and the SW Emerald Urethane. I've got a few questions. Which tip did you use on your gun to lay the green? Do you recall the approximate flow setting you used on the sprayer? Did you thin the paint at all? I'm not getting great results; a bunch of orange peel and pitting. Any insight you can offer would be GREATLY appreciated!
Great video, I have just started spraying my daughters maple cabinets- going from natural clear to white. I use SW product all the time, SW rep told me to use the Multi Purpose Latex primer with my Grace Ultimate airless, which I did. I applied one coat and just checked them 3 days later, looked like some bleed through of the maple. I am wondering if I have to spray another coat of primer or will 2 coats of the Emerald Urethane Trim (white) cover the maple colour bleed through? Also, what grit do you use to sand the primer? Kim
im wondering if i should go with a hvlp with an air compressor or this airless product. but most of the pictures i see online the airless products give an orange peel finish. was this the case with you?
The Finish looks great, I called my local store today and they recommended Emerald urethane paint, this is the first real example I have seen. I'm building my own cabinets and the finishing can be just as stressful. BTW, how much Emerald was used? Was it more than 1 Gallon?
Nice detail of all your steps. The cabinets look great.
Did you have to caulk the doors? Do you see any cracks in the paint afterwards?
What's the name of your quartz countertops and where did you purchase your hardware?
You guys really should use proper respirator example Devillbiss Champion $20 harbor freight. use it according to cartridge replacement schedule or like I do when fumes are noticeable
I’ve used emerald urethane trim enamel and find it to be very sticky even after 2wks. Also the paint washed off when wiping the cabinets down with a rag in soap and water.
I've had trouble spraying the SW Trim Enamel paint. After watching your video I'm going to try the Homeright Super Max. How well did it lay paint? Did you thin it at all? What settings did you use on the sprayer? Which color tip? I know you sanded the primer, did you sand the paint at all?
Great questions. Wish she would answer.
Did you thin the paint to use the sprayer
Wow!
Thank you!
Hi! What sheen did you use for the enamel? Thanks!
Cabinets look awesome. What tip did you use for the finish coat?
Did you dilute the paint or you put in the spray cup directly? And can you please give us the name of spray gun you used
Hi! I'm doing my cabinets with the same sprayer but with Benjamin Moore advance which I think is a waterbourne alkyd just like the SW I had a few questions... what tip and nozzle did you use? Also how did you clean the gun after the paint? Soap and water or Mineral spirits?
Soap and water! And green tip.
Is this satin or semi gloss emerald used?
Hi, great job. I have this same sprayer. How did you thin the paint?
Thinning isn't required when you're using the red nozzle. I did thin a little with simplegreen when it seemed too heavy!
Did you have to give them all a coat of polyurethane after
It is not oil based
I have the same sprayer and it comes with 3 tips can you please tell me which tip you used for the primer and which tip you used for the enamel ?
I’m waiting for you answer to paint the cabinet doors
Thank you
+1, would like to get the same info
Did you ever find out what is the best tip and thinning ratio?
Green for both!
Thanks for your video. The cabinets look awesome. Can I ask how did you clean the sprayer when using an oil based paint?
I cleaned up using a low VOC mineral spirits
How do you clean the spray gun after using oil base primer?
I use a low VOC paint thinner from Home Depot!
Emerald is water borne
Use clear amonia. Thinner will dry out rubber components within your system shortening the life of your sprayer. Mix amonia w water (1to1 ratio) then flush with water.
You clean with paint thinner. Put it in the cup and shoot the thinner through the gun just like you would the paint.
Could you make a video that shows how to do the skinny sides of the cabinet doors without it dripping?
Oil based primer requires a real respirator with organic vapor cartridges.... don't use a paper mask, it doesn't block oil fumes and even particles too.
Thank you for the advice!
Did you jave to thin the Emerald Uretane Enamel paint to spray it? Which tip did you use? Thought the video was great.
I didn't thin the paint, but you can if you need a lighter finish. I used the widest tip.
@@livefreemiranda thank you I will try that.
Hello. My cabinet is a yellowish white, while the door of the cabinet is normal white. If I spray the cabinet with white spray, is it enough or do I need a primer and clear coat as well? If yes, why?
Way too much talking, but it looks nice thanks for the video
I noted you didn't answer none of the thinning question; therefore, no like, no subscription
Such a
disappointment, you did not show how to do it.
