Karlach supposed to run around and melee attack things and set the whole place on fire. I’ve never seen her just shoot barrels lol.

Could only watch until the Bog. I think you may have found a region I didn't find there! So I won't get stuff spoilered for myself. In my playthrough, Ethel straight-up murderer the two guys 😅 So it was clear to me not to trust her. For some reason they survived in your playthrough! Why does everything die in my playthrough?! 😭

Oof sounds like Auntie Ethel is ruthless!

37:59 "I actually taste quite good, but, you know." Um...what? Idk how we're supposed to take that, haha.
Another difference in our playstyles is that I have never been a "use every character" kind of person. You seem to rotate the party in every video, but I would do it only rarely. I tend to figure out which combination of personality/skillset I like best and use only them as much as possible. For example, I have never once intentionally put Iron Bull, Sara, or Vivienne in my party in DA:I even after a second playthrough. I just don't like them. Instead, I use exclusively Solas/Cassandra/Varric/myself whenever possible. In this case, I already know that Shadowheart would never be leaving my party for even a second. Clerics are extremely useful in long fights/dungeons, and I happen to think she's interesting (especially with that random mark hurting her). I'd probably be using myself, her, and Gale (at least of the currently revealed companions based on your playthrough, as yours is the only one I'm watching) and possibly rotate whichever other character I need for a quest with Karlach or a ranged character as the default 4th. That initial trifecta though actually works really well too, as I would be playing a melee hero, with a mage and cleric as backup.
Also, as another thing you might have already realized later on, once you get into melee range against an enemy, you should stop moving. If you make ANY movement to get behind them or to flee without using the "disengage" action they get to attack you for free (It's called "attack of opportunity"). Similarly, difficult terrain (basically anything that isn't normal, relatively flat ground) cuts your ability to move in half more or less, and can also give other combat penalties if you aren't careful. Same goes for casting magic in melee range. That's why you get messages saying "target is too close". You want to cast from as far away as is physically possible. Lots of info to keep track of. Fortunately this game seems somewhat more forgiving than actual dnd.
Also also, I think it's odd that you can't use lay on hands to heal yourself. That's normally self-applicable, but when you went to heal after being revived by Karlach it wouldn't let you do it despite having all 3 charges left. Lay on hands should heal for 15 if you are a level 3 paladin if it's dnd rules, so it's the same amount of hp you gained from your greater healing potion, letting you save the potion, but it wouldn't let you. (As a rule, you should generally use lay on hands instead of a potion if you have the chance just in principle. Lay on hands comes back after every long rest. Potions are gone forever. It's always better to use renewable resources instead of perishables when given the option. It will save you a lot of money and headache in the future in basically any game that has consumable healing.)
Edit: So, if I'm understanding what I read about it, it sounds like they made Lay on hands weaker in BG3 than it is in DnD. Specifically in that it always costs hp to use (I'm not sure how much exactly, I'd guess 5 as normal), which in dnd is only the case when you use it to cure diseases or poison instead of gaining hp. That's why it wouldn't let you heal yourself with it when you had no hp to expend.

Oh no, I lost my train of thought and didn't finish the joke. I meant to say "I actually taste quite good if mosquitoes are any indication" - something along those lines lol. I swear they eat me alive every time, my blood must be Michelin star worthy 😭😂😂
I love every companion in DAI! Sera is the only one that took some getting used to, mostly because my first playthrough I was playing an Elf and she isn't too fond of that. Her, the Iron Bull and Dorian have the best banter in the game! I also love Vivenne, she's badass and sassy... she can be a little condescending and she has questionable views on magic, so I can understand not wanting to engage as much with her. I still love her, I made her Divine for one of my playthroughs. In fact I've gotten every Divine possible, Softened Leliana is my canon though.
But yea I try to rotate companions, especially because of their personal quests. I'll admit that as a paladin, I don't really see the need to bring Shadowheart around as much - but I still love her character, she's our goth princess and I'm sure she's the most popular romance option 😂
Thanks for watching, I hope you're enjoying the series!

@@DudettePlayz Yes, I am enjoying the series. Also yes, I forgot to mention Dorian, I do like him. I also like Blackwall as a character, though again, I didn't use him much in my party. But Dorian was my #1 backup if I wanted to switch things up. I used Varric because I love his comical dialogue and loved him since DA2, and Solas I could tell early on was very important to the story, and when there is a "main" character that stands out like that I have to always use them, that is non-negotiable for me. So then there's obviously my character (I always play a human for a first playthrough, because like I said, for me they are a self-insert. I usually stick to human even on subsequent playthroughs though.)
So the last character was negotiable but ended up being Cassandra because A: No way was I NOT going to romance her. and B: similar to Solas, I felt like she held a major role in the story, having been integral in the narrative of DA 2 and being the only party member with direct ties to the chantry/andraste (since you can't use Leliana in DA:I :( ). As a side note my favorite romance across the trilogy though is in the first one, where I romanced Morrigan. I went into Origins somewhat blind (though interestingly I played them out of order, 2, then 3, then 1) and I only ever did one playthrough of the original Dragon Age, but it holds a special place in my heart. I didn't actually like the combat much, but the story in that one is the best of the three in my opinion, and best girl Morrigan and BFF Alistair (with Leliana as my rogue) were my never-changing party in that one and they were all great characters.
Funnily enough I actually accidentally romanced leliana and morrigan at the same time and morrigan got mad lol. I remember her ambient dialogue was something like: "So...just so you know, I'm not too big on sharing."--"I'm not sure what you're talking about."--"I think you know exactly what I'm talking about." And then in camp she told me I needed to break things off with Leliana and I was like, "wait, when did I START things with leliana? I don't remember even TRYING to romance her." haha
Oh, and thanks for explaining the joke about tasting good. I was so confused the way that came out of nowhere and just got left hanging lol.

Oh and I just realized I forgot Blackwall! By far my least used companion. He's similar to Wyll in the sense that they're both really good people with a strong moral compass who have committed some mistakes in the past. I don't mind their "goody two shoes" attitude, but I do find them a little bland. I guess I just really appreciate humor in a companion. Blackwall and Sera are the only ones I haven't romanced in DAI. Cassandra is great both as a friend and as a romance, she'll break up with you though if you make her Divine. Alistair, Cullen and Dorian are probably my top three romances in the franchise. Granted I only played through the first two games once, so I'm a little biased. Josephine's romance is pretty wholesome though, I liked it a lot as well.

I highly recommend it! I don't know if you've ever played dnd or any of the Dragon Age/Mass Effect games - but it's quite similar. It's turned based combat, though, which I personally love but you might feel differently. Other than that, it's your character and your adventure... you can really play this game any which way. It's amazing how many alternatives there are!
