    I was just about to book bike in to garage to get valve changed, watched this video and realised you can change the valve stem without removing tyre. I popped down to Halfords ( 4 new stems and tool for less than 9 quid the lot) and had the job done in a few minutes. All fixed now and saved quite a bit of money. Thanks a lot.

    Some good tips there ; I have used those valve tools all my long life and never appreciated all of their functions, (especially with tubeless). A while ago I had a tubeless trailer spare with a slow leak around the rim , rather than take it to the tyre shop I tried something I’d not done before. I broke the seal on both sides of the tyre , cleaned it up as best I could then applied a generous dose of black molasses to the the seal between the tyre and the rim. I then quickly inflated the tyre , washed of the excess molasses and did the water/detergent test , no leak and is still quite ok 6 months later. Davox.

    Great video. I had a slow leak which I determined to be the valve stem. I had loaded up the tire to take to the tire shop when I found your video. Method #3 worked for me and only took a few minutes to do. Saved me a trip to town and some money. Thanks a million.

    Brilliant - 3 cheers for guys like this and UA-cam. This great video just saved Christmas after 2 (large national tyre companies) turned me away with a sticking valve causing the tyre to go flat overnight. Both depots said they couldn't take any bookings until middle of next week, despite having no vehicles in the bays and 2 fitters stood around chatting! I came home, watched this great guy, went to a local accessary shop, paid £6 for the tool and 4 valve cores, fitted inside of 5 minutes - and that includes moving the car, letting the remaining air out, fitting the new core as fix 2, then refilling to pressure. job done and problem solved. Merry Christmas Dave - you're the man!👍

    I watched some other videos on this where they just change the whole valve, either by breaking the bead to get access to the back or even without, using a kit that pushes it in from the outside with lube.
    But given valves are usually changed the same time as a new tyre it would be rare for them to have perished or ripped, imo. I have ordered the kit in any case but will try method 3 or 4 first as that may sort it.
    I've found slow leaks on alloys typically to be poor seating of the tyre bead, again due to corrosion.
    Useful video. Much appreciated.

    Great and valuable info.
    Methods 3 and 4 are often successful.
    Tip: If you're going to get involved in this, investing in a good valve replacement tool kit, such as the Laser 5540, will make things much easier.
    Holding and manipulating the valve is far superior, and you can push the valve far into the wheel and get good access to the hole without worrying about losing the valve inside the wheel. You also have the option of replacing the valve.
    Compressed air is great for cleaning the hole and dislodging problematic stuff.
    Silicone oil spray is also a great lubricant for this kind of work (but if you plan to use gasket sealant then don't use any lubricant).

      I don't know about all sensors and rim combinations but on mine I know it would break the sensor. I have a small tire changing machine and have installed sensors and tires. On my wheels, there is an orientation that the sensors need and there is a relatively small amount of rotation the sensors can move before hitting the rim. Forcing them to rotate any further would break the sensor module off the metal part of the stem.

    Out of 4 fixes here, none of them are to replace the valve stem. Unfortunately, that's exactly what I came here looking for. I got a flat due to cracked rubber of the valve them and the other 3 tires look like they're going the same way.

    • @andrewdavis848
      @andrewdavis848 10 місяців тому +3

      If you crack the valve stem that means ur valve stem itself is broken. You need to buy a replacement and install it. In order to do this you need to be able to “break the bead”, which he did state at the end of the video. This essentially means you need to take the tire off of the rim, which is what happens when you get new tires or replace valve stems. Once you break the bead and can access the back end of the valve stem you’ll need to take the valve stem out completely and if you have sensors on your stem u need to detach them and attach them to the new valve stem. From the back end you insert the valve stem then pull it through. Adjust the tire so when u fill it with air it sets back into place with the valve stem in the correct position to fill the tire and not let out air. Good luck

    fix #5; take the wheel OFF the car, remove valve core allowing as much air as possible to escape, break beed on the side where the valve stem is, 'peel back' tire to expose valve stem bottom, remove valve stem, install new valve stem with valve stem installation tool that you did not show, be sure to coat the base of the new valve stem with sealant, install valve core, inflate tire making sure the bead on both sides have seated (you'll hear an audible pop). Inflate to proper pressure. mount tire back on vehicle torque lug bolts / nuts to proper spec.
    ** note; if you have tire pressure sensors- you might have to remove the tire from the wheel- there may not be room to remove the sensor, especially with low profile tires. You can try, it might even be possible to leave the sensor on and remove the valve stem pushing from the top-- you'll have to cut the top of the stem off-- just be careful not to damage the sensor.
    I actually JUST got done doing this tonight. I was chasing a slow leak, while replacing valve core I noticed that when I move the whole stem just a little bit- massive air would stream out. Don't know how long I've been driving around like this but so glad I checked the valve core- never would have noticed the crack in the stem.
    Cheers everybody- drive safe.

    If you have a heat gun try heating the valve stem to get it softer and it will go into the rim easier.

  • @Hamachingo
    @Hamachingo 4 роки тому +2

    After topping off the pressure (before it gets too low in the freezing months), the valve didn’t close when unplugging the pump. The only thing holding in the air is the plastic cap. Jabbing the valve core didn’t help at all, driving for 20 minutes to heat it all up (thought it might just be frozen in place) didn’t help either.
    I guess I need to try fix number 2? Just buy some valve stems and the tool to swap them?

    Quick question I see u have a Karcher pressure washer which 1 is it k5 or k7 was looking on your videos but couldn't see any information about it thanks in advance

      It's a K4 Dameion. Just put lots of bits onto it, 20m armoured hose, stubby gun, quick release conversion.
      Just recently its started to take a few seconds to initially fire up, but after that it's fine for the entire wash. Seems to be getting worse though.

    Congratulations on forcing that valve back through the rim. I've failed at that several times over the years. Much good info in your video. It took me years to learn those tips. No YT tutorials back then.

      Oh of course this stuff is what we learn through trial, error, and necessity! I had to learn mine the hard way.

    Great video. Thanks. Mine is leaking around rim. Going to try fix 3 first... Then 4 if required.
    Appreciate your help.
    Rick.
