I run gateron browns and my favorite part of running o rings is that the tactile bump is more satifying and more noticable because it removes a lot of the extra travel after the tactile bump. You can feel the bump and then it hits the end of the travel almost instantly. so satisfying, cant go wrong for 6-7 bucks. only thing id do now is double up on the spacebar
@@bbraydenn Not loud as in the actuation of the key but the caps themselves were pretty annoying which is why I copped some O rings to dampen them. I wasn't thinking about the added benefit of a slightly shorter travel and better feeling tactile bumps. I really like gateron browns while they're "cheaper made" than cherry mx they're not necessarily lesser quality. Essentially a brown is a blue but without the audible click. I ended up going with the keychron k2 because is the only tkl that retains the 60% size without ditching the row of function keys and the DELETE button. It also works wired via usb C to A or wirelessly with blutooth (which is surprisingly low latency I accidently had a whole sesh on bluetooth and almost didn't notice)

Yeah that is the same feeling for me on my GMMK and the Ergdodox EZ with the Kailh Coppers, they give you the automatic resistance then the quick bottom out. Makes the the typing feeling better and makes it sound better as well, you go from having a bottom out clack to having a upstroke clack, really changes the idea of what the clacks are all about.
Idk if you mentioned this but there's different thickness in O-rings. On Amazon specifically I found 40A soft and 50A hard O rings. I have the Ducky One 2 Mini (w/ brown switches) and it sounds and feels amazing even with O rings. I went with the 40a softer version over the 50A hard ones after doing some research and don't regret it. I can actually fit 2 40A O rings under one keycap but I 1000% recommend only having one. 2 of them just don't feel right trust me lol.
Lubed Gateron Clears + Orings Literally the most silent keyboard I've ever made. There's still the issue of the upward clack but I'm going to try this with Outemu Silent Whites.
Thank you so much! i recently bought myself a razer huntsman te and i thought i had to return it because it was so loud! But... you saved me because i still love everything about this keyboard and i couldnt help myself but to be impressed about how good and informative your video is. It even answered all of my questions!!! Thank You!
Oh the razer huntsman te is nice and all but I think the razer purple switches are quiter XD I traded my huntsman te with my friend for his huntsman mini and even though it is loud and clicky it is a more satisfying sound compared to the huntsman te which felt unnatural
I have a local brand keyboard with Outemu blue switch (which I initially didn't really like). I added 2 silicone o-ring to each keycap and now it's far more comfortable. Never thought o-rings would help a lot and minimize the sounds of keycaps bottoming out!
Great information here on o-rings on a mechanical keyboard. I recently installed o-rings on an MX Clear Durgod TKL and it’s great. You still have that tactility but the bottom out is just a little less harsh.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest the best way to put 2 or 3 rings on to prevent bunching is to put the rings on 1 a time, attached to keyboard then remove and put the 2nd ring on. That way the first ring is already pushed down to the end of the key. It definitely does reduce the travel length which I like and the space bar is the loudest key on the board so even putting more on that one than the other keys helps I think. You know I never thought I would be interested in this stuff but when you think about it as an office worker it's the main way we communicate with the computer so it's more than worthwhile to put some investment into. People are so quick to buy 2 or 3 monitors for productivity without even thinking of this stuff.
IMO, I like Keyboard o-rings as they reduce the key travel distance. saving a few milliseconds on a key press may not seem like much, but it can assist with your skill in games by simply making your movements a little faster and more precise
I know this is kind of old but it depends on the measurements of the O-rings as well as they come in different sizes. I found that a 10mm outer diam, 5mm inner diam with a 2.5mm thickness to really help with the Cherry MX Red switches. It quietens them quite a bit and the actuation point is closer and the typing feel flies like you are always in a hurry! O-rings are really worth it on a case by case basis of course. Really appreciate Sherlock Guru over here who is always meticulous and fastidious and tells us things as they are which is really helpful. Cheers man!
Great video:) 50% or more of the sound is actually when you let go of the keycap. The faster you let it go, the higher is the sound. The O-rings would help a bit, since the travel is less for the keycap, but still.

@@mrb-btw yea it's weird because even on a lot of keyboards they don't necessarily reduce noise to begin with just the sound profile and bottomout feeling.
I just found your channel, good stuff 👍
O-rings change the actuation point???
I thought they just raised the cap slightly as the o-ring doesn't actually suppress the switch atall. The travel distance remains constant? You just get a damped bottom out?
i just want to shorten my travel distance, i can hear my cherry blues through my headset anyways
How quiet did the razor huntsman te go was it significant moderate or little
I've never used a mechanical keyboard before, and now that I have one it's the first thing I've noticed. The sound is just so loud. It's distracting really. Any advantage you'd gain from a mechanical keyboard might be negated just from the distraction from the noise. I am going to have to try them.
check these switchs/sound test out on these switchs >> ua-cam.com/video/S0-DR7Ps7Ss/v-deo.html
try swapping out the orings and use switch films, it surprisingly works and sound better than orings. switch films does not have mushy feel and nicer sound than orings
So is a Razer Huntsman hotswappable?
Nope none of razers keyboards are hotswap
@@youssef2150 alright cheers
Oh boy Im down the rabbit hole today
Imagine with keyboards with incredibly short distances with thicker o rings.
That’s gonna be like pls help me I can’t click my keyboard fully pls help me
Massive difference. I have red silents and they quiet them down even further. Awesome.
I’ve always wanted a solution to my keyboard being cut by my mother because of those loud blue switches, they get dangerous
U can’t tell me he’s not the best reviewer lmfao u got a sub
How can you hate huntsman mini so much but love the te. Both have the same switch
any difference on quality of o rings?
I Heard that the expensive O rings aren't that better than the cheaper ones. Anyways I would use the cheaper ones, bc if I don't like them, it's not like I've thrown many money out
I’ve got the ducky with brown switches, tried O rings on it and absolutely hated it. I would be playing a game and keys wouldn’t press at times. Plus brown keys aren’t too loud anyway I like the feel of them standard
oh yeah the ducky is 100% perfect without them, I agree!
did you return them? i got a ducky one 2 mini with brown switches and I was thinking it would help with finger fatigue, but i love the stock feeling already so ill see once they arrive

Do they work for the space button as well? As there is one of my main problem.
Surprised at the difference the o-rings made on the Cherry MX Reds
damn it. just bought 250pcs of o ring. i put on my gat reds double ring. and now it feels like membrane keyboard...

if cherry mx reds are your favorite switches you don’t know enough about keyboard here for the new people if yo want fast switches for fortnite or something get purple switches, if you want nice sound get either tangerine C3 V2 or gateron ink blacks or gateron browns. good little tip for you guys, you can do more research if you want but these are really good in my opinion.
Cherry mx Reds are definintely better than purple for gaming. Purple is better if you're a machinist and you want a keyboard that's louder than the already loud cherry mx reds.
