  • When you think of cartoons, you think of animation that is a light-hearted source of entertainment with comic relief. Even though most cartoons are generally created for kids, it is surprising how often deeper topics and more mature themes are added to it by its creators.
    Considering the fact that the target audience for most cartoons consumes its content during their formative years, these shows play a huge role in shaping us and making us the people we are. It might not be easy for kids to catch a lot of the undertones and emotional complexities prevalent in the cartoons of the 90s, but they tend to permeate into the subconscious quite easily. As for the adults who were kids when the cartoons aired but are now on a rewatch spree with streaming services at their disposal, having a superhero to look up to is cool but it is even cooler when the superhero who can destroy any evil has the same complexities in their emotions as them.
    The greatest feat about the cartoons in the 90s was the fact that censorship wasn’t as heavy as it is today. Creators got away with a lot of implied adult humor, which is something very prevalent in shows such as Nickelodeon’s Spongebob Squarepants. They would also use cartoons as means of social commentary or as means of emotional release.
    In this video, we will talk about eleven such animated series from the 90s that are often intense and mature, with darker undertones than you would expect from a generic cartoon for kids.

    • @LadyAstarionAncunin
      @LadyAstarionAncunin 2 роки тому

      NO. It was people not taking the themes to heart that makes people weak. Children have been taught important themes since movies like The Fox and The Hound, Pinocchio, and everything else. People aren't going to take to heart what doesn't serve their purposes. This "in my day" type of thinking (I watched the cartoons too, mind) means NOTHING because people have always been like this.

      @@markmolino679 I noticed people with your mindset will always find something in a show or movie that you consider "woke". Even when it's not there. If these show's never aired until now. They definitely would be considered "woke" because of the themes they cover in some of their episodes. Especially Gargoyle's and X-Men.
      But because they're established loved classics you're scared to call out anything that's "woke" in the series. Like Terminator 2 and Aliens with the hero being a woman who out lives everyone and kicks a$$. There's a bunch of "woke" moments in those movies. (Mary Sue, belittling of men, men being blamed for everything bad, all men are evil etc.). But because no social media was around to b!tch and moan about PC, woke, feminism back then. It's hard to do that now on the classics. So you just pretend it's not there and follow the sheep herder (UA-camr host) on what to like and what to not like next.

    anime differs from cartoon by it's emotion expression, anime action is emotion based, cartoon action is more logic/caricature based , either way cartoon makes you process action and themes using your logical side, where anime makes you feel the action, rather than process it logically, expressions and emotions can be exaggerated, there are more differences but this one is most common.

    I can't remember this cartoon it had a young boy that found this Orb during a to Revolution I believe it was the General and the guy that helps the king did something to the king and queen and this young boy saw it and he and the princess escape with this orb that can turn on all equipment they had futuristic technology but it was also not set up in the future. one episode they use that ordered to power of mech suit or a hover tank seen a few episodes don't remember that came on at night leave around 7 or 8 at night maybe later I believe it was around 94 to 98 . They also had to run away with other rebels from a city during the day and the boy used a jetpack or a hoverboard as the King's Knight's were chasing him down he had to leave them away from the safe house in the city so they all can escape I swear it was called cyber nine I know it has a number in the title a 6 or 9 cant remember the first part and Google in the description of the cartoon brings me up with nothing. It was on ABC CBS NBC or fox .

    I’ve watched cyber six and was shocked it never got renewal for second season, and was the first cartoon to have a transgender character as a lead protagonist

    If you ask me, a Spawn-like animated adaptation of the X-Men should've been created as well and it's horrible than they haven't made such an adaptation yet LOL. By "Spawn-like" I mean a TV series oriented towards a mature audience of course. One where lethal force and bad language were allowed. Where Wolverine was allowed to slice up people and where he could smoke and drink like he does in the comics. The 1990s version was very limited due to it being designed as a kids show. An adult oriented adaptation must be made.

      those werent mature and rarely were they dark, not dark in nature anyways. they were more an edgy cartoon that focused on gross out humor and arguably was TVs first LGBT couple.

    90's animations were fucking great. Nowadays animations are joke. That is why 90s kids were much smarter
