In this video I am installing an Ironman 2" (50mm) Lift kit to my 2023 Suzuki Jimny Jb74. I show you all of the steps necessary to install the lift kit and associated parts. Supplied in the 2" Ironman 4x4 lift kit is -
- 2" Lifted coils Front + Rear
- Extended shock absorbers Nitro Gas Front + Rear
- Extended headlight sensor adjustment bracket for the rear axle
- Extended brake line for the rear axle
- 2 degree castor correction bushes
- central crossmember drop bracket kit
All of these parts need to be installed together to lift the suspension in the vehicle and correct the steering and suspension geometry. It is important to install castor correction to bring the front diff back around to a good castor degree. This will give the vehicle good handling on road and off-road.
I first begin fitting the crossmember drop bracket kit to allow for extra clearance from the front drive shaft when the axle is articulating. This will also enable us to drop the front axle all the way down to install the lifted coil springs. Secondly I install the extended headlight sensor adjustment bracket followed by the extended brake line down on the rear axle. The Suzuki Jimny JB74 has LED headlights and the extended headlight sensor arm corrects the reading of the sensor to work with the height gained from the 2" Lift. After bleeding the LHR wheel cylinder the brakes felt nice and firm. As the brake line that I extended went only to the LHR side I only ended up having to bleed that one line to get a good firm pedal. Thirdly it was time to install the Front and Rear 2" raised coil springs to the Suzuki Jimny JB74. After the lifted coils were installed I could carry on and install the castor correction bushes to the front control arms. Using my 12T hydraulic press and my press tool kit I was able to press the standard bushes out of the control arms. Then I could locate and mark my offset castor correction bushes and press them back into the arms. After refitting the control arms to the vehicle I could carry on and install the extended nitro gas shock absorbers to the vehicle. After all of this work I tightened all of my bushes on the ground at ride height.
The Suzuki Jimny is quite and easy vehicle to install a suspension lift kit to due to it being a live beam axle 4wd. I used a few tools to carry out the Suspension lift kit install -
- Jack stands
- Floor Jack
- 12t Hydraulic press
- Press tools
- Socket and ratchet wrench set
- Spanner and ratchet spanner kit
- Screw drivers
- One man brake bleeding kit
- wheel chock
After installing the 2" suspension lift kit to my 2023 Suzuki Jimny JB74 I took the vehicle to my local tyre store to get a wheel alignment. During the alignment they checked the Suzuki Jimny's steering and suspension geometry and straightened the steering wheel.
The lift it that I have fitted to my 2023 Suzuki Jimny JB74 is an Ironman 4x4 2" suspension lift and it has a weight rating of 0-50kg of accessories on the front axle and 0-200kg on the rear axle. The coils I chose were the lightest rating due to the vehicle being very small and light weight I didn't want to ruin the ride with really firm suspension. The Suzuki Jimny drives great with the new suspension as it has firmed the ride up just enough to improve how the vehicle handles but it hasn't made it uncomfortable.
In this DIY tutorial I show you all of the steps necessary and guide you through the install one step at a time. If you are thinking of installing your own suspension lift kit to your Suzuki Jimny then you can easily follow my Guide and install it yourself and save a heap of cash! This video can be used as a guide or tutorial to help you install your own 2" suspension lift kit to your 4wd.

Thanks! Now I know how to install a lift kit for the Jimmy that my wife won’t let me buy
Haha 😢
Quality job all round Nick, great to watch 👍
Thanks a lot Bill 😀
Great video, thank you!
Excellent!
Cheers Ian 😀
Good work Nick 👏
Thanks Damo 😀
Excellent job done, 👍👍👍
Thank you 😊
Great video Nick, You sure make any install look easy, awesome to watch. 👍
Cheers Brett 😀 Lots of hours of work to make it look this easy haha 😄
@@LowRangeNick Nice to work on a vehicle that is clean on the underside and not covered in rust and mud. The work looks straightforward. Didn't the front flexi brake hoses need replacing? Also l am looking to fit lower low range transfer gears but can't find any that also don't lower high range, are there any out there that alter low range only as l am sticking with standard tire size.
@clooperman3745 The front brake lines are fine with just a 2" Lift. Any bigger and you will need to extend all of the lines I believe. As for transfer gears. I have only seen ones that reduce low and high for fitting bigger tyres. 👍
Good video and effort .
Thank you 😊
Good one mate, helped me out alot. CHEERS
Thanks Greg 😀
Great timing, this proved to me that ironman did not swap my headlight bracket when they did my prereg install 😬 thank you!
Nothing like paying the pros to do it eh?
@@andrewford80 100%. The worst thing about GVM upgrades is they have to do it.
@@theeahsee yeah thats unfortunate. They really have you by the nuts in that scenario . I got some stuff at a local TJM and the workmanship was so poor. They tried to fix it but failed. Overall, my faith in these professionals is very low.
Great Video, very detailed and informative .. exactly what i was searching for
Wow very impressive Nick you have done a fantastic job mate well done. Just need now to change your tyres and rims if you want. Then it will even give you a bit more height. Keep up the amazing content Nick so looking forward to seeing you on the next episode take care mate
Thank you Jeremy! Appreciate it 😀 Tyres and rims will come soon 😎 Will be good to get the extra diff clearance.
Brilliant video mate 🔥 can i ask a question? I bought a jimny with a 3 inch body lift. I need to change the shocks and springs as they are so rusty. Was wondering if i buy a 2 inch shocks and springs do i need anything else ie extended brake lines etc? Also wont be going off road its mainly for looks. Thanks mate
Man do they fit the 2024 5 door jimny
How do find out if you need the European of Japanese springs, for Australia. A great video.
Most auto stores will sell the correct kits for Australia. You can contact your local 4x4 store that sells the lift kit, and they can assist you in choosing the correct kit.
Hi Nick, such a helpful video, super stuff 👌 I purchased an OME 40mm kit (not fitted yet) and that comes with a rear panhard relocation bracket. I'm very curious as to why this is needed, most other 40 and 50mm lift kits do not come with this. Any idea why OME use one?
It is optional with the 40mm - 50mm lift kit and it just corrects the pan hard rod location when lifting.
Задние отбойники не меняли?
new to your channel but yeah you seem to do a lot of good stuff. Are you a mechanic or just a all-round learn as you go car enthusiast? So when you do a lift kit there is no need for steering arms , radius arms, tail shaft or sway bar adjustments. Or is that mainly for the bigger 4x4s with the 4-in lift etc? And if you don't have all the tools it's just a job for iron Man. Nice video
Hey mate. Yes, I'm a mechanic by trade and have been tinkering with 4wds for a long time 😊 the other steering and suspension components are only necessary with bigger lifts.
Hi! Great video! Can I ask you how much longer are new bumps stop than the stock ones? 18:27
Thanks a lot
Approx 2"
Hello. When you took the rear wheels off, did you notice that the brake came apart? Like the cover came apart together with the tire?
The rear drums stayed on the diff. Nothing came apart. If you are wanting to remove the drums you can slide them off once the wheels are removed. The black plastic cover stays in the wheel If that's what you mean though?
Very interesting and well filmed video thank you. I would say, I'm not convinced about some aspects of the IronMan kit. No extended front brake lines, but a flex limiting extended bump stops? The quality or lack of with the headlight adjuster and cross member brackets are a disappointment. Looking at how far the axle can drop with the shocks off, it looks like there is a lot of suspension travel left on the table too. Although I guess the upper shock mount is the real limiter here. Would be very interesting to see how much gain (or loss??) or suspension travel the kit generates. A lift in itself is one thing and better damping, but off road you also want increased travel. And I'd guess that total travel on the front is maybe net zero based on the extended bump stop. Think I'd also want to address the panhard rod angles too.
What lift kit would you recommend (40-50mm) instead? OME, Black Raptor etc?
I really like the look of the OME kit, but it is only 40mm, so the shocks are not much longer than stock. For a primarily road going Jimny with mild lift looks, it would be my choice I think. slightly enhanced off road, but some nice design decisions and much better damping than a standard vehicle. But for off roading, the short shocks will limit potential. I've actually just bought the 2" Black Raptor Pro kit, so should be able to answer better in the near future. For more serious off roading I'd say the 3" Black Raptor kit, you don't get any more travel as the shock upper mount limits what you can do, but you'd gain a bit more clearance. My vehicle is more mixed use, hence going for the 2" kit though.@@tonwhelan
Great stuff thanks for your detailed reply. I just had the OME lift kit delivered and had already fitted extended brake hoses front and rear (not essential for a 40mm lift but did it anyway, simple enough procedure). Look forward to seeing how it drives once i install the kit, its mostly road with some mild off road so should suit my driving.
Did you instal a spacer for the drive shaft ?
Not necessary for 50mm lift.
Rims and tyres look great. Would be interested to know how the bigger (and heavier) rim & tyres has affected performance and low range gearing.
Also how is the suspension going? - Ironman have a current promotion on their suspension kits and considering putting on my vehicle
I don’t own a Jimmy or MUX but always enjoy your videos
Cheers
Cheers! Suspension is going great so far! The gearing is still good. Any bigger tyres and you would want reduction gearing. I'm really happy with how all the mods are working together now 😊
@@LowRangeNick thx for reply …mmm…sorry I just watched your tyre and rim video and I meant to add my comment to that video but seeing the green springs made me think of suspension !
hello what is the strenght used. for tightening the bolts? is it just by hand or do you use manometric tool spanner?
They all need to be done up very tight with a Breaker bar.
@@LowRangeNick Thank you for answer. I checked in manual for gen 3 and it is what i found:
18) Tighten right and left shock absorber lower mounting nuts
and leading arm mounting nuts to specified torque
NOTE:
Nhen tightening these nuts, be sure that vehicle is off
hoist and in non loaded condition.
Tightening torque
Shock absorber lower nuts and leading arm nuts
(a): 90 N-m (9.0 kg-m, 65.0 lb-ft
What type of springs are you using, A or B springs?
0-50kg constant load in the front and 0-200kg load in the rear.
How does the ironman kit handle compared to stock? Better with less body roll or worse?
Much better, less body roll but it's not too stiff that it breaks your back.
I just purchased a new Jimny and a lift. Is a Slip Yoke Eliminator something I need to consider with a 80mm or 50mm lift?
You would potentially require a tailshaft spacer with the larger lift kits like the 80mm lift.
@LowRangeNick Thanks, There is no way I'm going bigger than 31's or possible 32's. I'm looking at 60mm lift. Correct me if I am wrong but I should be good with just lowing my sway bar a few inches and adjusting the caster on my font axel, correct?
@heavyjohnny If your going 60-80mm you will need a full kit that comes with adjustable pan hard rods front and rear, extended brake lines, castor corrected front control arms, headlight bracket extension, lifted coils and shocks, swaybar extension.
Is the headlight level sensor present on all jimnys or only on the 4 seater ones? Thank you!
Just on the jb74 new model.
@@LowRangeNick mm in italy they used to sell your jimny with 4 seats and now only sell the two seater as a “pro” version (for work) with a steel net behind the seats, halogen lights, steel rims and no infotainment, just a simple one. And looking under the car I have an empty bracket on the chassis but no sensor/cable or any bracket whatsoever…. It might just be for led headlights?
@TheAufis Yep, your correct. Just for the LED headlights.
@@LowRangeNick thank you so much and what a great guide, wish I had it when fitting the same kit on my jimny earlier this summer!
I have a question for you and I would like to know if you can tell me if it is true that the ironman nitro gas shock absorbers go well with the standard original trim and can they be adapted with the +5? i have a suzuki jimny 4x4 with m13a engine 1.3 lt factory standard gasoline yesterday afternoon i picked up the new ironman nitro gas shock absorbers and the 4x4 parts dealer in florence told me that these ironman nitro gas shock absorbers are good for off road 4x4 vehicles with a standard factory shock and springs tuning kit or in a second I could put the springs higher and it becomes a high +5 suspension is this true? Greetings from Florence Italy!
The kit that I fitted to my jimny is raised coils and longer shocks. They are sold together as a kit to ensure the correct shock lengths are used with the raised coils. It's best to get a lift kit with all of the parts together so you know that it will all fit correctly and work well together. Thanks 👍
Is nitrogas really not that noticeable with the foamcell shocks?
The foam cell and nitro gas are 2 different types of shock absorber.
what size do you think you're going to put under Jimny?
Probably 235/75r15 👍
I am planing to fir 235 85 r 16 in my 5door jimny, with 50mm lift kit , along with 1inch body lift probably and also EVC throttle tuner. ( leads on throttle tuner and 1inch body lift as i couldn't find any body lift video)
What about steering damper?? It is not included in this kit??
The Suzuki Jimny Jb74 has a factory fitted steering dampener. An upgraded dampener is not included in the kit. You can purchase one seperately if you want to change it.
@@LowRangeNick okay. What about panhard rod? Isnt it necessary to upgrade it if one is lifting the vehicle 2inches?
@draseemhooda Not necessary with 2 inch lift. Only lifts over 2 inches require adjustable pan hard rods.
Why did you settle with the Ironman instead of the OME?
Price, quality and all of the parts supplied as a kit. I have never been a fan of ome stuff, heard of leaking shocks, sagging springs etc.
@@LowRangeNick thanks nick, I’m deciding between the two.
Did you buy the lift kit your self or is this " paid content" ?
If it is paid content you will see a paid content or sponsored content label in the video. This was purchased with my own cash. 👍🛠9
Excuse me sir. I am a Chinese factory that makes off-road vehicle luggage racks, trays, climbing boards, shock absorbers. I saw you using these products. Is there any opportunity for cooperation? Can you leave me your contact information?
Buy a five door version jny from india
They are cool!
@@LowRangeNick i like the three door version though
@@Johundaherohonda me too 😎
