- G'day Guys and Gals!
In this video I am fitting a new set of 4wd Off-road tyres and rims to my 2023 Suzuki Jimny Jb74. I have chosen to fit a set of King Offroad Wheels - Razor - Gloss Black/Machined Face - 15X7 5/139.7 P0. The tyres I have chosen to run on my Suzuki Jimny are the Maxxis Razr AT811. These are an aggressive all terrain tyre which will perform really well on road and off road.
When selecting tyres and rims for your Suzuki Jimny there are a few things to keep in mind. Depending on how much off road work you are going to do and the type of 4wding you plan on doing you can select tyres and rims that suit your needs. There are a few popular tyre sizes that people fit to the Suzuki Jimny JB74 and those are -
1. 215/75r15 fitted to the Factory rims for small increase in clearance but better tyre options for off road traction
2. 225/75r15 fitted to aftermarket rims for moderate increase in clearance and better tyre options for off road traction
3. 235/75r15 fitted to aftermarket rims for big increase in clearance and better tire choices with more off-road traction
Fitting any tyres larger then 235/75r15 will result in a large power loss and it will also raise the gearing so that low range is no longer effective. This means that you will more then likely require reduction gears to run any bigger then 235's on the Suzuki Jimny. Larger tyres also put added stress on the wheel bearings, king pin bearings and other drive train components.
I have chosen to fit the 235/75r15 to my 2023 Suzuki Jimny because I really wanted the extra clearance under the diffs and the better choice in 4wd off road tyres. The 1.5L petrol engine still pulls the 235's along really well. You can definitely notice the added weight and rolling resistance of the larger tyres though and any bigger tyre will drastically reduce the vehicles power and economy.
In this video I carried out a few measurements and weights before and after fitting the tyres to calculate how much clearance under the diffs I actually gained and also how much weight I was adding to the vehicle. After fitting the 235/75r15 Maxxis Razr AT811 and the king offroad razor wheels I gained 25mm extra clearance under the front and rear diffs and chassis. The factory rims and tyres weighed in at 17.5kg and my after market set weighed in at 26.2kg. So the added weight is 8.7kg per wheel and tyre. I fitted 5 new wheels and tyres to my Suzuki Jimny so I added 43.5kg to the vehicle. As the Suzuki Jimny Jb74 only has a small payload it is important to keep this in mind when modifying it. That is why I chose to use King offroad Razor Alloy wheels to keep the weight down.
With my Ironman 4x4 2 inch Lift kit the 235/75r15 Maxxis Razr At811 fitted perfectly with no trimming needed. The tyres can articulate up into the guards without any scrubbing. The Maxxis Razr At811 tyres and the king off road wheels have given the vehicle a wider stance giving it more stability. For on road work the 235/75r15 tyres have given it better cornering and stability. For off road work the wider stance means that on off camber tracks the vehicle will be a lot more stable.
I am really excited to have the Maxxis Razr AT811 tyres and the King off road razor machined faced wheels fitted to my 2023 Suzuki Jimny JB74. It is starting to look really tough and its going to go even better off road now!
Finding the perfect tyre for your 4wd can be tricky. I find that reading a lot of reviews on different brands and tyre types can help me narrow down the decision. I found that the Maxxis razr tyres had some really good reviews and I can see why! After running around on these tyres for the last week I can tell that they are really quiet and grippy tyres.

Wow what a big difference your Jimny looks so much better and I’m sure you are going to have way better handling on road and off road is well. Great job Nick so looking forward to seeing it on the tracks
Cheers Jeremy! It has definitely improved the stability. You can feel how much more planted it is with the wider wheels and offset. 😊
nice. mine is 265 70 r15 Falken Wildpeak on stock rim with a 3 inch OME lift. its a daily drive for kids to school. great for tarmac.
how do you find the 265? any photos of tyre rim set up? cheers
@@WAMAGPIE not on social media sorry
Is it too slow with that tires?
@@gustavohernandez2062 yes. like a big van.
OME has only a 4cm lifting kit...what 3 inches are you talking about?
Extra weight of the tires will changes the overall performance of the vehicle, the all terrain tires with new rims can be lesser weight allowing less un sprung weight on tires, We can get tires with rims that doesn't require spares. That helps jimny perform better with better milage. This is from my experience. I like the vide, game me some good insight.
Jimny is looking tuff great job.👍👍👍
Thanks a lot 😊
Nice looking and the wheels and tyres are nice too.😉
Really great vid showing measurements etc. I'm going to go with 205R16C as they are slightly lighter, and skinnier for better contact patch deflated. They are also a lot of great tyres to choose from in that size. (Profile is 80) Overall diameter 28.9".
Looking good. Hope you can share more about the RAZR AT811
I'll definitely keep you posted on how they go, but after a week of driving around, they are quiet, grippy, and very well balanced. Keen to test them off-road though 😊
new tyres look awesome mate
Cheers 🍻 😊
It really needed the AT plus 15x7inch rims alloy .include 25mm on front and rear different housing .
It has given the Jimny a great increase in ground clearance and an awesome tyre too.
It looks awesome Nick!
Thank you 😊 I'm pretty happy with how it's all coming together 😀
Looks good buddy, hey I've seen a jimny with 31's on it
You can fit some pretty big tyres on the Jimny. If you go any bigger then 235's you do require lower transfer gearing to make it usable off-road though. 😊
Fuck yeah dude I've been hanging for this video! Looks awesome Nick 🤙🤙
Cheers Damo! It's all coming together 😄
Beatifull my friendo I lo e it.
Excelente, gracias por el aporte amigo, saludos de Perú!!!!
Hey Nick, are you planning on installing a tow bar? I'd love to see you install one. I'm looking at the TAG recovery tow bar but unsure if it's something I could install myself!
Keep the jimny content coming mate, I love it!
Hey there! I probably won't install a Towbar because I have another vehicle that I use for towing a trailer. I'm pretty sure it's an easy install though. I'm sure there would be a video or instructions somewhere 🙂
Looks so good!
Thanks Ian 😊
Check your speedo against gps, will read lower with bigger wheels.
My mux reads 6 ks higher against gps.
I do need to do a gps check to see how it has changed the speedo. On stock tyres, I was travelling about 5km slower than what the speedo was saying. So it should bring it back up close to actual speed I think.
Thanks for the video.
Thanks Charles 😊
Hi Nick looks great any issues with gear box im running 215/75/15 but want to 235 but everybody say I will affect bearing act gear box
@@MrMaxence07 no issues with any running gear so far. I think the biggest killer of wheel bearings is sand and mud and not soo much 235 tyres.
@@LowRangeNick ok thanks
What about the increasing fuel consumption of your Jimny now? Are you considering an upgrade to a bigger fuel tank? The 40 lt fuel tank is very small.
Hey Nick, great job as usual! Any possibility of tuning the engine to get a little more poke out of it? I know its not turbocharged so gains will be small but it would help especially with throttle response.
Apparently, you can get an ecu remap to get some more power and torque.
Are those the biggest tires that you can run without a lift?
What were the dimensions of the new rims? Were the rims just a cosmetic upgrade?
Any plans to install lower gears to compensate for the larger and heavier 🛞s?
Cool videos. Subscribed and looking forward to more. I'm thinking of getting a Jimny and I'm curious of your fuel economy after the tire size increase ? Also, is yours an auto or manual ? Cheers!
Thanks a lot! Mine is a 5spd manual. I am getting around 8.2l per 100km with the bigger tyres.
@@LowRangeNick Thanks. That's quite good.
How much did you have before?
@@LowRangeNick
@@masterninja2291 it was around 7.4l per 100km.
Hey nick great to see you video, previously i upgrade many thing in my Dmax by watching ur MUX's video, now i am about to buy Jimny 5 door planing to put on 235/85 r 16 KO2 (31.6inch) , on a 40-50mm lift and 1 inch body lift, whats your take and opinion on this?
Sounds like it will be a beast. Those tyres will definitely suck all of the power out of the vehicle though, so you would definitely want some reduction gears. You may even need a bigger lift and some guard trimming.
Will DM u on insta
Great video not sure if it’s the right place for a comment but freewheeling rear hubs for the new five door Suzuki, jimmy I’ve heard a bit about it can’t find any information. Thanks
With due respect. The rule of thumb for an Upsize wheel and tyre size is that wheels to be increased by 1 inch and tyre by 3%. Bigger tyre size will result in a torque deficit in a small capacity engine. According to me 255/60 R15 for normal drive and 6.00 16 NDMS purely for off-roading.
Yo hoping you share some vids of the Jimny on some hard tracks. Your Gen3 Jimny vids played a large part in convincing me to get into wheeling. That little thing could go anywhere.
It was a little beast! Thanks a lot for the message 😊
NICE !!!
What was the weight of just the wheel alone?
For an already under powered vehicle would this not make it have even less power looks great though.
Will 225/75/R15 fit the Jimny without the suspension lift kit?
I like these vehicles. I'll buy one in 10 years and put a Volkswagen TDI 1.9 engine in it.
For readers beware it’s a little 1.5 engine to much with screw up your mpg also the wheel bearings and drive shafts will get hammered as they aren’t designed for big tyres so be prepared to replace these parts more often that normal
Did you need to use wheel spacers? And is acceleration or power decreased?
@cosaosa2855 No wheel spacers needed. You do lose a bit of power but it still drives great.
I'm thinking about changing my tyres for these.. So What is the tyre weight only?
Does installing 235/75/15 tires affect the operation of traction control, and do I need to recalibrate the settings?
@michatarczewski8523 It will definitely increase your stopping distance. There isn't any recalibration needed, though.
@@LowRangeNick Before I install 235/75/15 tires, I’m wondering if these systems will function properly:
1.Emergency Braking System (EBS) or Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
2. Traction Control System (TCS)
3. ABS - Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
4. Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) or Lane Keeping Assist System (LKA
did you fuel eco go down? do you feel power lack on highway in head wind , or gear down uphill ?
It does do all of the above, but it is still fine to drive and I feel like it still has sufficient power to get up hills. I think the problem is when people do a lift and tyres and then add 200kg of other gear like winch, bulbar, rear bar, drawers, fridge, dual batteries etc. If you did all of these mods and the tyres I feel like it would be horrible to drive lol. Fuel economy if around 8.2-8.4l per 100km now and before it was around 7.4l per 100km.
hey man how is the ironman lift and springs going ? how are they preforming, do you recommned them ?
I have found them to be really good so far. 1 year in and going good!
Hey Nick, hope you’re keeping well.
I was wondering if you needed to lift the jimny for the 235’s? Thank you 🌻
I think you can fit them at stock height, but you may get some scrubbing.
Any comments on the nearly 10 kg. increase in unsprung weight in each tire/rim?
@richardguse3410 The price we pay for good off-road ability. The jimny handles the weight and rolling resistance increase well. Any bigger then these 235s though and you would begin to have issues with wheel bearings / premature wear on steering components.
do you happen to know the weight of just the rims alone?
👍🏻
Like Already subscribed 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hey Nick, have you felt loss of power and low gears being faster after putting the bigger tires?
There is definitely a loss in power but it is manageable. The gearing is still OK. I wouldn't go any bigger in tyre size without reduction gears.
@@LowRangeNick Thanks for the reply mate. I am planning to go up in size eventually. But I am a bit concerned since the Jimny is my only car atm. I am running 215/80/15 and it's pretty fine for me. I am mostly worried about highway and hill driving, how many revs does it do at 110 km/h? And do you have even more trouble with overtaking? btw your Jimny looks amazing and that's one of the reasons I wanna go with that size.
@marijanspasenovski362 Over normal hills on the highway it is fine and keeps the speed pretty well. But if you come to a really long steep incline you will definitely notice the difference. Having the larger tyres does lower the revs so it sits at around 3000rpm at 100 kmhr. The fuel consumption has increased about 0.8 of a litre. The best size for the jimny is 215/75r15 which doesn't affect power and consumption much but if you want the extra offroad performance with the 235/75r15 tyres then you do sacrifice some onroad performance.
@@LowRangeNick Thanks for the reply again mate, it was really useful.
What are the new tire pressure for the upgraded tires?
Running at around 30psi
Have you re-geared your Jimny after installing these tyres? I’m not a specialist, but people are saying it’s required.
@uaSkywalker no re gearing required for 235's. Any bigger then 235 tyres though and it would be necessary.
Looking at getting those tyres and wheels in the black but as you’ve had them for a bit now, are you still happy or have you found any issues?
They work great on the Jimny. They are right on the limit for offset though. They sit just outside the guards. The tyres are great, really happy with them. Quiet on road and good offroad.
@@LowRangeNick were you able to use the same wheel nuts on the kings off road wheels or did you have to get new ones?
@@Whatsup766 I was able to use the same wheel nuts with the king wheels 👍
@@LowRangeNick awesome. Thanks
Hey mate, hows the fuel economy and speedo ?
@simondent2196 speedo is spot on now with the bigger tyres and the fuel economy has increased 1l per 100 km up to 8.5l per 100km now.
How are the tires after a few weeks? Are you still happy with them?
Really happy with them so far. Nice and quiet, grippy on the bitumen and great offroad. Glad I went for these tyres.
According to Suzuki changing tire size can jeopardize the factory warranty. Any comments?
If the bigger tyres are the direct cause of a fault or failure then it will not be covered by warranty.
I am using Yokohama 215/75R 15 AT with airpressure of 28 in all tyres in Jimny 5 door in India. There is no other alteration done in vehicle apart tyres. I took the vehicle on the highway & hills for the first time & found the car was Jerky on Road whereas it was settling properly while passing through path holes or rough terrain on Slow Speeds. The vehicle was so moving that I had to make a stop to check the fitment of the nuts on the wheels.
As a driver I felt a lot of body roll on corners in hills & was afraid as if the vehicle may get unstable on corners. I was driving solo & without any luggage.
Can you pl suggest solution to this ... should I reduce the tyre pressure further from 28.
That just sounds like normal Jimny driving characteristics haha I think 28psi is a good pressure.
I would definitely install stiffer springs :)
hey mate loving the videos, can you release a vid on how to install a torqit exhaust please?
Hey Marcus I don't plan on fitting an exhaust as they really just increase the noise (which I don't want to do) the power gain is minimal if anything at all.
mate do you have a 2 inch lift already with these rims and tyres.. we have a 2 inch lift already. What size rim tyre? still the same recommended. cheers, John
I fitted an iron man 2 inch lift to the Jimny before fitting these tyres. The rims are 15x7" 0 offset and tyres are 235/75r15 😀
@@LowRangeNick would you have gone a 245 tyre or happy with what you put on?
@@WAMAGPIE I wouldn't have put any bigger on as it would suck too much power and make the gearing horrible. 235 is perfect 😊
Meant to ask, Can you fit the 235 x75 to the existing jimmy rim?@@LowRangeNick
@WAMAGPIE technically you shouldn't fit a 235 tyre to the factory rims as the are only 5.5" wide and a 235 requires a 6" wide rim minimum. In saying that, a lot of people do iT any way haha
Do the wheels rub?
No, they don't 😀
is this jimny lifted or stock?
@@DeeDoydz it has a 2 inch lift 👍
Defect waiting to happen
Completely legal mate 😘
Prise
Is your fuel economy slaughtered now ? Is the car also noticeably slower now ??
@peterblissett9076 only increased fuel economy around 1L per 100 km. It still drives really good! There is a loss of power, but it still drives really well.
...bit misleading....this is not the original setup. You have lifted it right. You haven that,...what is the lift 2inch?
Bearing mind that both car dealers and insurance companies will use every trick in the book to avoid paying out money on claims, I would be interested knowing just how all of your mods affect warranty and insurance.
All of the modifications are road legal and covered by insurance. So no worries 😊 Warranty won't cover anything that has been the direct cause of an accessory or modification, which is fair enough.
Your gunna kill the car, 40kg + in unsprung weight added, great job and that's not including the spare
His car, he can do what he pleases 🤷♂️
