Gyrocopter flying with car engine

- I bought this cheap home made gyro and make the blades slap the air like a helicopter. It was crashed and rebuilt about 3 times before I got it. Its got a subaru ea81 engine (about 80hp?) and it takes unleaded petrol. This machine is a good paddock basher to learn on.
Now that's what I want to be doing on the weekends!!!
Great Videos, please post more. Loved the blade tracking video with beer can shims followed by the removal of the prerotator. That was brilliant tracking down the builder. I tracked down everyone when I brought my gyro to find out the history that was not in the logs which in Aus Gyro world is minimal records.
This is one of the most amazing things I've seen lately
Most excellent! I hope to join you in the air soon.
Well done sir
Looks like a nice gyro
Subaru Boo, AKA Daurant Bouchard, was the first ever person to place a Subaru engine on any flying machine and it was a gyro. This was at least 35 years ago. He still lives in Texas and is 88 years old. He is still building gyros but has switched to a 3 cylinder car berated but turbo boosted geo metro engine. He claims 130 hp. It cranks up and blows hard! I have known him for years now and he was a fixture with the Experimental Aircraft Association and gave many talks on rebuilding the EA81. Understandably he shied away from fuel injection and engine control modules. I found a high time Lycomimg in decent shape for a reasonable price and proceeded with it. I am swinging a 68” propeller with a 46 pitch.
Cool! Australia has a few old geniuses like that but unfortunately they will take their expertise and wisdom to the grave, I hope to bring a bit of life back into the home built world with these videos so there will be more newbies to seek out and learn from them
@@omeobandit9928 i am Samuel from Uganda, i have built dominator with subaru ej 20 as well, training is very costly and requires one to travel out of the country !... access to our aerodromes is another challenge i have here, but trying to teach my self to fly my gyro, so far ..i can taxi, can taxi with rotor rotating am doing this to build confidence , doing a lot of reading, and seeing instructional videos, etc . ,did you teach your self to fly the Gyro ,like i am trying to do ?
@@samuelagwotu5074 I tried flying before I did training and crashed 😅 then I played a simulator on Xplane for about 20 hours went and did some training and it only took a few hours before I was ready to solo. I highly recommend playing the game, I can gift it to you on steam if your computer will handle it? When do you plan to go solo? If you wait for a few months I will make a video for you and get some old instructors who are my friends with thousands of hours and we will make a training video for you

@@omeobandit9928I have a couple questions, I have an Aircommand low rider with skywheels and a 503 with dual Bing 54’s. I’ve never flown it but have done som taxiing with it. I also have about three hours PIC time in a gyro and a little over 200 fixed wing hours VFR.
Sorry that was long.
My questions are: How did you crash before training? Was it taxiing or landing? I can balance on my mains and believe I’m ready to solo but want to do my due diligence to mitigate potential problems.
Thanks
