Meditation: A Refraction of Consciousness

  • In the early stages of our investigation we make a clear distinction between the subject and object of experience, the knower and the known. In this meditation we collapse this distinction, exploring hearing and seeing to find that all experience arises in and is made of consciousness. We contemplate the implications of this understanding on our relationships with ourselves, others and the world.

    I found it! There is so much life inside of me, It's Me! Never was an experience it always was the basis of my experience. Yeeaah. I just feel that i have to deepen into it, for making it my normal depth. But i can not loose it, and even if i feel like i have lost my precious being, doesn't matter at all, at the end of the day, the being is the being, has no time! It's complete! The experiences dont matter, they cannot remove the being, they cant cancel his fulfilled nature, and if the being know itself for a moment it will be an eternal knowing, out of time, we are just going to the source of ourselves, it's ourselves, the universe is ourselves, god, we are it! We just have to go deep into the BEING.

    For any individual who relates to fine arts, nature or any kind of life pulsating experience that plucks a chord in the heart when engaged in creativity and switches the mind off...it is simply not possible to stay perched at the thought peak of 'I am that' at all times...dare I say, not possible for a lot of us....This creation is a reflection of the creator, good or bad. It must eventually boil down to...I am this and that and that ..and all of it. Isn't it?
    I'm no longer obsessed with or waiting for 'the moment' of enlightenment. What after that...?
    For now my unripened mind simply saddens at the thought of evthing around me being an illusion. Is waking up a scary or an islolating state to be in?

    • @widestspace
      @widestspace 2 роки тому

      R spoke to this at about 19 minutes in.. Everything 'around us' while an 'illusion'.. can be allowed. accepted, as the phenomena of duality, consciousness exploring experience. The shift is in moving to self-sense not defined in either content or context, but awareness experiencing both. Some Vedanta deplores the 'maya' but integration of recognition of the dreaming is not complete. As we continue to abide as witness to experience, the phenomenology of duality drops finally into a context of all things coming and going without disturbance to the self.

      @@widestspace sure thing. Till then we suffer or rather subject our false selves to it... Either through attachment to fulfil the desires ...to be happy via object gratification or through suppression of the same by denying ourselves the interaction with the object.
      Both responses are forms of resistance. A state of non equilibrium. Till there is stillness or even a minor trace of trying to be still this cycle won't stop. That is all I understand.

    So, take-away’s here are: -
    Following along and separating Subject and Object to establish the differences between the two in terms of limitations. The Object limited and the Subject unlimited. This distinction is then collapsed.
    Having done that, the immediate impression for me is, that objects seen, now have a quality of Eternity in them. There is a compelling attraction to see them as unique standalone beautiful objects. This may be a definition of beauty, where the sense of Eternity is seen in an object. Eternity in a grain of sand.

    Of course if the Self did not need bodies to experience Itself and those bodies did not have a nervous system that react to objects and experience physical and emotional pain, realizing that Self would be much easier.

    I have not seen this yet but I will. I see the mind as a prism that refracts the non duality of God into our duality experience. It also reflects experience and records it as memory. Time does not exist but the illusion of time is the recording of life similar to a hair follicle is life and the hair is the recorded experience. It is the mind that allows the duality experience via its refracting or filtering out of the infinite into a finite. The reason you can even experience anything is because it can be separated out of infinite everything. So my view is that God is on the other side of our prism mind and but a part of God is refracted in all of our limited experience. So we are not God we are of God. You can not be something unless you are all of something. But you can be of something when you are a subset or derivation of it. The separate self is not real but a temporary limitation of the infinite. I think the awareness we experience comes from the other side of the prism. It is a feeling of being connected to the infinite source and then the separate self falls away. Similar to a colored light being overwhelmed by a super bright white light. The journey of what we call enlightenment is really the waking up to the truth of what IS. For me the key is realizing that we seek to understand non duality from a duality perspective. Not possible. But understanding that there is no reason to understand something that can not be any other way is the way to understand it. We can not understand infinite because our mind is finite. An infinite mind can not understand finite either. Ultimately when you realize there is more fun in finite than infinite you see why it is this way.

    Although Rupert has displayed some understanding of his Absolute true nature regardless of whether it was intellectual or conceptual in nature. Unfortunately, he has moved away from the understanding of what is to what appears to be. He's been speaking of the need to align, integrate all activities on behalf of our true nature, the Absolute. It's a wonderful notion and beautifully very positive and certainly not to be taken lightly. And we should definitely treat everyone and everything in accordance. What is often overlooked, and goes unchecked in speeches like these is that, so many statements goes unchecked and received at face value based on blind trust which can never work out well in the long run as one comes closer to understanding and recognising the Absolute Truth Nature of Existence . As one comes closer to understanding and recognition of the Absolute Nature, one begins to make every conscious effort in usage of words not to misrepresent one's recognition especially when spoken in defining terms which normally is a sign of one's ignorance rather than understanding. Rupert often says 'we' need to align, intergrate, incorporate...etc. He's certainly not saying The Absolute has the need to align, integrate... etc. And he's certainly not speaking as or on behalf of the Absolute, then, who is this 'we' that has it's own independent existence, will, and doership apart from the Absolute whether to be in alignment or out of alignment. Even without deliberate ill- intent , minds can be very deceptive especially more so in the name of noble intentions and thoughts. One can easily see why the Buddha saw even the most noble thoughts , and intentions as Ignorance and deceptions veiling the Absolute Nature, only to perpetuate the form existence into an endless cycle of sufferings. At the level of the body- mind, or the finite mind, as if there really is such a thing, some of these talks are understandable , under the assumption that one is imparting Reality to 'finite minds' or simply form existence. But, if one is sincerely interested in one's Absolute Nature as one is to return to it , as spoken by the Buddha and Nisargadatta, then, one should not settle for anything less than the beyond the beyond as sages put it. Rupert needs to be more careful, and thoughtful when accusing vedantic sages as being 'life negative' as if he's dicovered something something more, The Truth may be on the contrary. Mind can be very deceptive in projecting all it's apparent noble activities and naming it as " in the service of Truth". The Real Truth may be that, the Absolute never is in need of service from anyone or anything. We should all be very careful when concerning the Absolute Truth of our nature until it is clearly understood and recognized for ourselves without error.

      say more about 'what is' as you know it? R speaks clearly pointing to the mistake of substituting awareness of absolute nature with appearance, any object of perception. Appearance is a reflection. Knowledge is not a reflection, not the consequence, a result of perception.

    • @joajoajb

      @Thomas Carroll. Thanks for sharing your point of view. That is a very good question. I don't know how to answer that other than in terms of negation. I have no doubt of Rupert's sincerity. After years of meditation,contemplation and observation, I have come to fully concur with Nisargadatta and the Buddha concerning the Absolute Truth of Existence. All of Rupert's understanding is based on one thing which is being aware of being aware. What Nisargadatta would call the knowledge "I Am". Or knowing I Am. Being Aware of Being Aware is is a reflecting consciouness or mind due to the human configuration. Alan watts labels being aware of being aware as human consciouness . Nisargadatta's position on the knowledge or knowing I Am is that it comes and go . " your destiny is not death but the disappearance of the knowledge I Am" ( Nisargadatta ).
      What Rupert and other religious mystics have done was to equate knowledge or knowing with the Absolute or What Is. Knowing with Being. Nisargadatta avoided this error by stating "The Absolute doesn't know that It Is". For the Absolute to have knowledge of Itself, It needs to have a reflecting point of view which is the knowledge I Am. Lao tzu ,another sage gave it a name "Tao" rather than consciouness or awareness. Another term he used as inference to the Absolute was " The Supreme power or force". He was fully aware of terms such as awareness or consciouness. One thing that is common among these awakened ones was the fact that they never equated knowing or knowledge with Being or What is in and of Itself. In other words, knowing something can never be what that something really is in and of Itself. Knowledge of Absolute can never be what the Absolute is in and of Itself. For this reason It cannot be spoken other than in terms of negation. Thanks for your point of view.

      @@joajoajb and thank you. I reflect on your thoughts of appreciating Nisargadatta , and the Buddha. Would it not be so, that we really cannot know what they knew, realized, without being there as well? Otherwise, I really cannot say what is one level, or another; how one state entered by an individual would be contrasted with another. In particular I mean this as qualifying attainment (realization) in commentary , assessment, comparison. I would only really know and have clear capacity to assess through experience of those respective states. In that vantage, I will also have ability to communicate , teaching, these distinctions.
      In ancient Vedic tradition, devotee (student) and guru (teacher) interact in relationship whence the devotee rises, or awakens to the master's level of experience. Many stories of the teachers knowing their student 'got' it. For the student, not so sure. Sometimes, quite mistaken until he/she arrives. So all to the point of my asking, would it not be necessary to know the state of a master to truly appreciate it? We could also clarify what the relative distinctions of these words *experience, and *knowledge* are as we use them

    • @joajoajb
      @joajoajb 2 роки тому

      @@widestspace It is never about any individual or a person but rather it's only about the clear seeing or understanding of the Absolute Nature of Existence. Nisargadatta displayed such a clear understanding when it came to the nature of what knowing or knowingness is. The ultimate statement he made concerning the Absolute was to settle all questions . " The Absolute is prior to knowingness, consciouness or the knowledge I AM". He then, throws the question " Prior to consciouness, knowing, or knowingness, who or what is there to know what?". He left it simply as It Is UNKNOWN, Thus, unspeakable other than in terms of negation. Freedom is never in the Known, knowing, knower but rather true freedom is from the known . Thanks for sharing your thought

    • @joajoajb
      @joajoajb 3 роки тому +1

      Moonglow yes! Actually your opinion, statement " consciouness and it's content " is overrated. "Sometimes you( mind) just needs to rest" is a much truer way of seeing concerning the ABSOLUTE Truth of Existence or simply " WHAT IS". When Rupert speaks of "we" need to incorporate , integrate, and align, he's speaking from the point of view of a limited body- mind perspective which only knows form, the world , and activities. It is the seperate consciouness which is represented by the body , that imparts the Reality to a non- existent body and its activities thru it's own ignorance. That very ignorance is suffering , deceptive down to the core. Without this ignorance and deception, the knowledge of form, manifestation cannot take place. Rupert's criticism of certain sages as being " Life negative, body- negative is how the body consciouness imparts Reality to conceptual existence. They're not negating Life, they're negating the illusory representations of What Is, thus imparting Reality to the Very Thing in Itself which is The Absolute Truth of Existence. Rupert is greatly mistaken if he continues to think that he's adding something more to the recognition of our Absolute true nature than those sages. It's on the contrary, he's allowing the mind to deceive, ignore, and veil the Absolute to project mind's conceptual utopia which can never be realized but only finds itself exhausted in the end. After many years of meditation, contemplation and observation, I have come to fully concur with what the Buddha and Nisargadatta ultimately tried to convey. There's nothing ordinary about the Buddha and Nisargadatta concerning their understanding and recognition of the Absolute. The projecting mind is deceptive down to the core, not that it is bad, evil or anything like that, it's ignorance is almost instinctive , and being only the shadow , it's nature is to endlessly distort The Formless Absolute into all kinds of life forms , subjected to living and survival endlessly. The Ultimate pointer of the Buddha and Nisargadatta are continuously being distorted and misunderstood by the minds which only knows form existence, activities and perpetuation. What is Buddha, what is Nisargadatta are truly Rare and Few.

      @@joajoajb Thanks. I love Nisargadatta Maharaj. His pointing that life is a dream in consciousness is enough for me, I don't need to know more. It clicked with me and I'm staying with it. For me it's that simple for now. And all this drama, even about 'enlightenment' is truly overrated in my opinion and is not the full truth. One should not overengage in it I think for truth will come naturally to everyone on it's own accord, just relax and don't make a knot in your brain for nothing... :)

    • @joajoajb
      @joajoajb 3 роки тому

      @@moonglow6639 Thank you for shining your own light into the spider web of minds, where, the knots and twists get tighter each time the mind moves further away from the simplicity of WHAT IS. Knowledge certainly has it's place in dream play, but it cannot replace The Absolute. All knowledge is nothing more than mind's interpretations,descriptions of WHAT IS not WHAT IS in and of ITSELF. For this reason, Nisargadatta stated " The Absolute is prior to Knowledge, the knowledge I Am". The knowledge I Am being the seed of all knowledge and manifestation. For the same reason The Buddha also declared " all knowledge is impermanent without exception" . all the positive aspects of Rupert's teachings are wonderful concerning the dream play, even though much of it are very childish human concepts almost completely excluding the whole of the universe as if there are separate entities who can either do or not do independent of all the movements of the entire universe. Just like Nisargadatta stated" everything is what it is, because the universe is what it is". Alan watts made a wise statement when he stated " not a thing is out of place in this universe, everything is exactly where it should be". Statemens like these are a death to the egos which values it's ignorance and enjoys imposing it's own non- existent will over the will of the universe thus perpetuates it's projected conceptual existence with it's silly perspectives which in time are bound for suffering. Letting go is something ego cannot accept, for it implies the death of the ego. This is the reason why many minds have misunderstood the Buddha and Nisargadatta as being nihilistic, and that's how it'll seem when seen from the point of the view of a body-mind perspectives. And, yes, there's a wisdom in relaxing and letting go of one's own personal perspectives and allow the whole of the universe take it's course which is always already the case regardless of individual ignorance or not. Great respect for your love for Nisargadatta. Thank you
