Very inspirational and helpful.... Since discovering your channel a few months ago, you've really helped me progress my art and given me a direction to further my artistic career
Ok, this was just amazing to learn from and to watch! For starters, that character by Hans Kristian Anderson is amazing! Thank you for showing us how to add color to that type of rendering. I cannot express how grateful I am that your videos are so informative and very well done. AS I've said in another post, they are super user friendly and your commentary throughout so honest and full of good tips. I will try to ask Hans Kristian Anderson this question, but maybe you can answer it: How is that type of 3D rendering with value in such detail, done in Procreate? Is it basically what you are already showing us by using lots of layers for all of the various parts and then alpha locking to make the value? It seems like in a rendering of that complexity, that there would be a ton of layers. I realize it is a question for the artist, Anderson, but I'll bet you know how to do it. Thank you!!!
Awesome information, as always great content …. Quick question .. as far as resizing , I’m developing a character for an nft collection, , and went with a 4kx4k @ 300dpi res which I thought it told me I had a max of 56 layers , but after thinking about it that was my first sketch set at 3kx3k,, and now I’m about 3/4 of the way done , with a max of 29 layers and 25 already used , I know you mentioned quality loss when copying \ resizing, but being digital , if I resize to 3kx3k to get the extra layers , will the image quality suffer that much ? I also see the option to copy canvas , will that affect quality on the original? Sorry still very new to digital art , and everything I know about procreate I’ve learned from watching your channel… thanks again 😁
you can copy and paste in ProCreate and if you turn off the background layer it will be transparent. If you go to the wrench copy open a new drawing and go to the wrench and hit paste.
All you vids have been very informative and have made using procreate a lot of fun!!! I do have problems when I use the grids in drawing assist. Once I use them I can’t seem to get them turned off again so that I may do more freehand work. I am working on a 9 inch iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil, any thoughts on this problem ?
How do you know what colors to use for your art? Like how can you choose a good color that will make your artwork pop out more and same question for backgrounds. How do you choose a good background?
Great advice Bee Jay, I'm guessing this was recorded before Merch was shut down. I had some early success on merch but temporarily pivoted away from it because I didn't think people would be buying a lot of shirts if they couldn't really go out and show them off. So I started concentrating more on KDP, publishing a few more coloring books. Although I think people will be buying books right now. I worry that the platform will be deemed non-essential and also temporarily shut down. So now I'm focusing all my efforts on digital products which thankfully is where I have had the most success. I'm curious, with things changing in wake of this pandemic what changes you are making if any and what areas of passive income you would suggest focusing on, keeping in mind our current landscape.
Not the case...I actually mentioned this in the description as to why I didn’t talk about the shutdown. After it’s all over, I still wanted this video to be relevant so I left that part out and tossed it in the description for good measure. I could see people watching this a few months down the line, skipping through things, and missing the “temporary” explanation...causing them to think it was permanently closed. Even if it was open, I agree with your initial thoughts of pivoting. KDP seems like a good choice for now as long as they stay open- I’ve seen an uptick in sales just due to the fact that people are bored and want something to do! Not sure how long that ship is going to sail though. Don’t think many of us would have been seeing too many shirt sales either right now due to a change in buyer priorities. I think anything you can make right now that provides entertainment, escapism, or educational value is the way to go. Digital stuff is great for this...no inventory, instant access/gratification for the customer. One of the keys to this is going to be pricing (cheap or free.) I think now is a great time to pump out content on UA-cam- so many people watching. Although ad-rev is taking a hit, it’s a great time to get new eyes on your stuff...which is a good way to grow your channel for later. Hopefully if the people watch now and you are able to provide something that they find valuable during these times, they will remember that and come back after all this is done. Personally, I’ve been meaning to start doing more clip art so that’s been my focus in addition to UA-cam. Not really planning on starting to sell now- just getting a catalog together to launch later.
Let's Draw with BeeJayDeL Sorry I missed that in the description. That makes sense. I’m making it a point not to mention anything topical in my Making Comics 101 series for the same reason. What are your thoughts on Amazon Ignite? The fact that it’s delivered digital, everyone is being home schooled right now and we have an opportunity to get in on this on the ground level seems like a no brainer to me.
So glad you touched on the image degradation issue in Procreate and exposed the fact that this is a dev issue and not because it’s a faster image tool. While I personally think Procreate could be improved by the addition of a few extra tools, such as basic geometric tools beyond the current shape assistant function, the issue mentioned above is THE Achilles heel of this otherwise great app. I hope Savage Interactive have taken note and will soon address this serious flaw.
Good show man! Love your style! I have a question for you: Besides all the niche stuff and the right timing for selling out your artworks, in the beginning, how much did your UA-cam channel influenced your POD sales? One more thing, what's the best way to advertise your work on MBAmazon when you're in your first tier with only ten shirts to sell?
My UA-cam channel has had no influence for my POD sales except for my drawing prompt book. That’s pretty much the only thing I market or talk about on the channel. I don’t do any advertising to be honest- I find the best way to get sales is finding an underserved niche and making sure your keyboards will direct the right shoppers to your products...and then having a killer design that resonates with that demographic.
I agree with the issue on commissions, It all comes down to cover yourself. Get the client to sign off at stages. So they can't say that wasn't what they ask for. Never take a commission without at least half the money in your hand. Watermarks even on the low res proof. I had someone take a low res thumbnail and that took it to a male artist and had him finish the work so I only got part payment. At least I got something. I met that artist a year later and he had no idea the thumbnail was mine. He said the guy how shafted me said it was his sister's design. The artist was sorry, I get on well with him. You never know what people will try. So cover yourself. I have found sometimes (friends) can be worse than then-unknown cilents. Friends can expect last-minute miracles. And they can think because they are a friend you would do it for free or cheap for them. That doesn't pay the bills. When it comes to copying someone else's work. It's really not on. You wouldn't like it if someone stole your work and made money off of your work so you shouldn't do it to someone else. The best advice I was giving in art school many years ago was. Be good at what you do, protect yourself and your work, Be a good human. Life should work out for you. I don't do commissions anymore. Sadly influencers ruined my enjoyment of doing commissions, But they ruined a lot of this in the world. I have been an artist for over 30 years, I am enjoying UA-camrs sharing and inspiring. It has helped me to be better with my Ipad Pro and apple pencil. It's away good to keep trying new things and learning new things. Thank you @UConkqv19MKj0aVMfIQDiOOw for your cool videos. I love teaching kids and my work has always been more girly but I am getting better at stuff to show boys when I do classes at my local kids center. I can't wait until we can start weekly classes in person again soon. Thanks to you the boys will love some of the stuff I learn here on youtube.
Holy Crap what a ton of helpful free information....UA-cam is such an amazing thing....Thank you for taking the time to post this thing....Very Helpful....I guess it's time to re-apply to MBA...Maybe the 3rd time will be the charm
Thanks so much! Appreciate you watching. I know Merch is temporarily closed since it was deemed “non-essential” (talked about this is the description but didn’t want to mention in the video since people watching at a later date may become confused.) Doubt they are doing approvals right now due to that.
Hey BeeJayDel, you should do a video where you pay a few artists on Fiverr where you ask them to draw something for you then try to make a better version or your own version or something with the artwork you recieve back! Hope you like my idea!
I think the problem with bad quality in procreate when you resize,is it resamples. I'm not sure why they can't do resizing without resampling like photoshop where you can turn resampling off and on.
Thanks to everyone that took the time to leave questions on UA-cam, FB, and IG! I appreciate it!

Recently got your brush packs and it makes drawing so much easier for me! Absolutely love them!

Is there threshold filter which can be used on Procreate to convert photo effect to black and white pen and ink effect?
