    Another tip for clean power lines when you have a floor beneath your machines: Wall mounted power nodes can be mounted at the ceiling, and you can connect them to the machines above. That way even the power pole will be gone.

    • @DistracticusPrime
      @DistracticusPrime 11 місяців тому +1

      That's my favorite way of connecting power. On the other hand, watching him use the regular power pole in this way, maybe it helps find the thing later on. I had good results adding a second floor to my starter factory; simply use the first floor ceiling as a power bus and pass everything upstairs.

    When you had to re-do the belts at 2:55: I felt that in my soul.
    Building a lot of pipes is so much nicer because you dont have to worry about direction. Also this simple variant is pretty close to how I do it usually, mine is just a touch more asthetically pleasing IMO, though it takes up a ton of space. I stack 4 splitters at the first hole (depending on what direction the parts are coming from) positioned 1-1.5 foundations away and belt them in from there, it doesn't clip, but it takes up a lot of space. I guess the upside is you can see if there's a problem with a line faster, but really I'm just exhausted by the time I get to the end of a factory that ends in manufacturers and just want to set it up as simply as possible.
    I probably won't bother with logistic floors, or other cosmetic belt/wire hiding (I like the industrial nightmare asthetic for my factories), but I got a big bolt of inspiration on how I wanna do my Frames production. I'm gonna go to the Rocky Desert starting zone and build 3 giant floors for the 3 tiers of frames, maybe this time I'll actually use walls and make it look like.... something, though likely only after it's complete.

    I've been playing the same save for years. Its fun to walk the various floors and see both things missing that were added to the game after i built them and new techniques i incorporated as i got better at the game. Some of the early parts of the factory that fill my storage room with basic supplies on the lower floors are dark because lights hadn't been added yet and all the power is delivered by poles because wall outlets werent a thing. The first 3 floors have no logistics floor so belts are sort of stacked everywhere like your first example.

      It definitely saves a ton of space...the coal generator is a great spot for a belt floor. I would probably still run my pipes on generator level...I have found that feeding anything fluids from below can get a little wonky.
      Timewise, the key for me is to find some patterns for each kind of machine that work for looks and aren't too fiddly. That way I know what to do each time I have to build a given set of machines.

    For all those still watching this- as it is 2 years old and some QOA improvements have come with 1.0.
    You can put splitters down first, same deal, hold ctrl and line them up with the device your producing from (works with all) in this case your lining up with convayor lifts (but you can do it at floor level if you want)
    Splitters and mergers stack one on top of another at the same distance as the lift up and down ticks so stack them up 1-5 or more and delete the ones beneath you do not need. Then run the belts between them and to them. It allows you to build more quickly, as initial belt setup can be finicky otherwise.
    Another handy tip, especially when getting into large ammounts of production machines is this:
    you can make sequencial connections from machine to machine (looks neat and it will allow you to keep all conveyors on the same level. For manufacturors these can be a bit cumbersome, but if you do use them you should put glass or open area's over the convayors as it looks cool. .so works like this, you put in your rows of .. lets say manufacturors (or assemblers or whatnot) first row all next to eachother, second row turned around and next to eachother across from the last - You can add more rows if needed, but remember to make room for the outputs. (not needed with 2 rows) ..
    Anyway, put lifts in, all facing sideways, so either to the left or right of the device constructing. and yes you do so on a floor down using holes like in vid. Then snap the splitters directly onto the lift entrance holes (they fit over them so they take up no extra space) The first 2 of both rows you have entrace on the entrance side. Get inputs *however you like) directly onto the splitters (it does not matter that the lift you put the splitter on has its entrance left, you can put the splitter entrance in 3 of the 4 directions allowing for this setup) once you got your first device hooked up its a streight line to the second. THen the 3rd and 4th devices starting from row 2 and then row 1 have the splitters facing the oposite direction, you then run the belts from the splitters on device 2 to device 3 through device 4 and repeat as needed. The belt basically makes an S turn from one device to the next. No big rows of splitters, no up and down lift stacks (other than perhaps the first) and a tiny footprint. It works like a full bus, meaning the first device gets filled, then second etc (unlike a line bus as shown in vid, where splitting happens a little more granualy)
    The big advantage is that you dont have rows of splitters and lifts next to devices, everything happens on 1 level. Your belts will all be neatly lined up next to eachother at every turn allowing you to put viewing ports over them for the "oeeeh ahhha" aspect. Setup is much quicker (once you understand what the F i just said above :) ) and it allows more usable space on maintenance floors and for those floors to be MUCH smaller.. like crawlspace sized if you want.
    Oh one tip. At the last production machine, put a smart splitter, output the usable material to the lift, and put overflow out of the line at the end, you can put that in a sink or a spare device you could put down. Should your buffers run full this will resume usefullness.
    Oh and if you use smart splitters on every single lift hole, you COULD run 1 belt with all resources on it to the line and rather than S turn from row to row, line the entire row and S turn to the second row splitting off the needed mats to the belts needed. you NEED to use overflow at the end.
    So you come in on entrance of the first splitter, the lifts point to the ass/or front of the devices in this situation. and your splitter entrance is to the left or right depending on direction of the belt.. (in this case left sided)
    Spliter is set up Left = wanted item, right nothing(can be overflow) Center = overflow. It goes directly into the input of second entrance of device, same deal etc all the way down and at the end you .. end or S turn to a second row.
    It does mean needing smart splitters, and you do need high enough belt to feed all inputs from all devices, but it does mean that even manufacturers Even 20 of them.. can be fed with 1 belt and if set up right run at full speed.

    Ah, I remember "baby's first organization". I spent my entire first run of Satisfactory trying to avoid clipping, making things as "efficient as possible", making things look neat and tidy and nice... Burning like 300 hours of the game before even getting the Assembler...
    Then, on a subsequent playthrough I went, "This is a massive waste of freakin' time. Spaghetti and clipping are THE MOST EFFICIENT way to do anything." The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. It doesn't look nice, but it's certainly much faster and more time efficient to engage in massive feats of clipping and spaghetti.
    Do you want to unlock everything in 30 hours, or do you want to make a "pretty factory" that takes you over 100 to organize and be careful about placement in order to "get it right"?
    Yeah, my new run is "I want to unlock everything as quickly as possible. I can make it look nice LATER. Looking nice is the ENDGAME. It isn't the CURRENT GAME."
    After all, you're going to be tearing your factory down dozens of times anyway, just trying to "keep it nice" and trying to "keep up with production" as you upgrade miners and transport systems and everything else.
    Easier to "spaghetti" the thing and "make it nice" later... when the parts are no longer really needed as quickly as possible.
    In a game like Factorio, the "spaghetti" matters as it actually interferes with productivity and efficiency of your factory. Satisfactory... spaghetti doesn't matter at all, because it's MORE EFFICIENT to clip through everything all the time to achieve the shortest distances between any machine. Belts that slam through power poles, other belts, and other machines and the space elevator? ABSOLUTELY! I'm not going to attempt to reposition anything to "make it look nice". That's a newbie move. Production is fastest by engaging in the clipping and embracing the spaghetti. Make it look nice later. When there's nothing else to unlock and nothing else to do.

    • @DrLootCrate
      @DrLootCrate  2 роки тому +3

      Awesome comment and I agree to an extent.
      My first save was ridiculous spaghetti and I figured out how to be organized towards the end. I thought that I would start again with this knowledge and it was really helpful.
      So for this save I was generally organized with each build (no clipping and all manifold on foundations), but really didn’t take any time attempting to make it look good until my adaptive control unit factory (which looks horrible haha).
      Two slight points of contention: I haven’t torn anything down…I just move on to more nodes. There are so many out there. I will be redoing a bit of my starting area because I am building phase 4 parts there and want it to look decent.
      I have said “I’ll make it nice later” several times and I have not yet done it. Once I move on to a new project, I really struggle to find the motivation to go back. You might be able to glimpse my half decorated RCU factory in the distance in some of my videos…

    • @XxTaiMTxX
      @XxTaiMTxX 2 роки тому

      @@DrLootCrate I'm not knocking the "make it look nice" and the tips are generally very helpful as I'm always interested in "How do I make this not look like garbage?" when I get to endgame.
      I just gave up on my most recent run because I was just burning SO MANY HOURS on "rebuilding it" all the time.
      I mean... you get a Impure Node, so 30 iron a minute. One Smelter to go with it to make 30 iron ingots a minute. Split that off into whatever you're making to keep the ratios perfect...
      Then, you unlock "Mark 2 Miner". Well, crap. Now I've got to tear down the first smelter and add more constructors. Or, I get Mark 3 Miners and have to do it all over again... It's even worse if you've got a Pure Node and have to start with like 4 Smelters and it scales up a ton as you go.
      That's to say nothing of when you unlock trucks and no longer want to "belt everything back to the main base". Or, even worse... TRAINS. If you do not have a plan for your train stations the moment you start your file, you are basically asking to rebuild the whole thing again and again.
      Even having to "upgrade" your belts is a fun new overhaul each time as they can carry more items. Got a Mark 3 belt, but you can't hope to fill it with the Impure nodes around? Downgrade it to Mark 2 or funnel more resources onto that single belt from across the map.
      I can't even imagine how my transportation network is going to look the moment I unlock the drones (which I've never used before as I'm playing on a brand new PC for this run and hadn't touched the update they were introduced before).
      All of this to say nothing about when/if you start over/underclocking your machines.
      I typically end up rebuilding my Satisfactory "main base" at least a dozen times before unlocking Tier 7 and 8, and that's just to "keep it functional". That is to say... adding new lines into old ones from further nodes, adding more machines to current lines, swapping out alternate recipes on current machines, so needing to fix lines again...
      You can easily see why I blew 300 hours on my first game before even getting "Assemblers" as I had to keep rebuilding my base just to keep stuff from clipping and to keep it "nice and organized". I spent like 30 hours on a freakin' "Mall" for each part in my main factory as well, and I didn't even have that many parts available to make!
      So, with so many hours trying to "make the factory look nice" on a playthrough, I just couldn't subject myself to that anymore. Making it "look nice" when I had nothing left to unlock seemed far more reasonable to me. Especially since I know I'm capable of sitting down just to tear my factory down and rebuild it to feed lines all back through it again.
      Spaghetti is the most efficient way to play Satisfactory. I don't begrudge anyone for doing it and I feel like we don't talk about how useful the Spaghetti in the game actually is, in the Satisfactory Community.
      But, it's also important to make things nice when you can. Making things nice is "endgame" and isn't progression at all. Making things nice is always something good to do to "burn time" while you're waiting for other things to happen. I just don't see the point in focusing so heavily on "making things look nice" so early in the game and before you get most of the important upgrades and unlocks.
      So, yeah. I can remember my first time at "trying to make things look nice". It was a good time, at the time. But, it made me woefully inefficient at the rest of the game.
      And, there's nothing to stop you from "going back later", even if you don't have the ambition to do it. It's sometimes hard to "find the ambition" to tear it down and rebuild it. But you know how you start? Just start knocking out walls. Once you get started on tearing it down, you no longer have the hesitation to do it. You then go, "I'm building this much better than I initially had it and it won't be so difficult to navigate anymore and it will DEFINITELY look far nicer". Just gotta rip that band-aid off sometimes.

      @@XxTaiMTxX I’m with you, especially the part about burning time by making things nice. It is a good thing to do if you have 20-30 minutes to play.
      I avoid a lot of rebuilding by just moving on to a different node. I don’t ever go back and replace belts and miners unless I am on the verge of unlocking something and I plan for the upgrade (like I am currently doing with mk 3 miners).
      I don’t think making things nice is endgame…you can do it whenever you want, including never! But I could see many people playing this game mainly for the building design if they are really into it. That’s not me, but part of the beauty of the game is that there a lot of ways to play it!

    • @XxTaiMTxX
      @XxTaiMTxX 2 роки тому

      @@DrLootCrate Well, what I mean by "making it look nice is endgame" is because you don't unlock most of the really nice looking stuff to work with until you're basically at that point. Even the placement of new machines and such can make things "look beautiful".
      I always find it "very limiting" what I've got to work with so early in the game. I prefer the look of the Mark 3 miners, for example. I prefer the look of the bigger liquid storage tanks. I prefer making my buildings look more "lived in" or even "create a tiny little city" with each new section of factory, where I've got cars and parking lots and train stations and stuff. A factory building just doesn't "look nice" to me, until I've unlocked most of the building materials and most of the new machines and structures. You have most of the "sandbox" of creation unlocked by endgame, so it's really the perfect time to begin to beautify stuff.
      Especially when you're looking at Phase 4 of the Space Elevator and realize you can blow a ton of hours to make those parts at 60 a minute (something I will never accomplish because that task it so daunting), or you can wait a few hundred hours for the elevator to fill and make your factory look beautiful during that time.

Then make sure to color code each of the corners so at a glance you can see it's orientation. Then you can just plop down these abominations everywhere and spaghetti them together to your heart's content without having to think. As a bonus you can put little signs on them that'll tell you the input quantity you need and the export quantity you're going to get. I’ve just unlocked coal but it’s about 1k away and no water near it, which I’m led to believe I need. There is some a little further away though but I imagine it’s going to cost a lot to move all the coal to my base!!!!
    Is it wise to move your entire base to the coal? Do you get your materials back when you dismantle things? If this is viable how do you cart all of your inventory over to the new base? Ahhhhhh! 😂
    I love the chaos of it. :)

    • @DrLootCrate
      @DrLootCrate  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah it almost seems impossible when you see the big clean builds when you are starting out, but it becomes a lot easier to build at scale when you have a standard design for each kind of machine. My first play through was also tasty pasta. This is my 2nd time through, so I had some good idea how to be clean from the start
      On coal, I prefer just bringing a power line from your base to the coal/water location, so you don’t have to bring either resource a long distance. Power poles are a lot easier. Use coal not near water for steel.
      And yes, you get a full refund when you dismantle.
      I have never moved a base…there are so many nodes around the map that I just start building somewhere else and leave the old stuff to make materials I need for the new place

    Another method not covered here is to just use a mixed belt and then feed manufacturers like they were constructors. I could write a novel about this so instead I will explain a simple example and then give some abstracts to consider!
    Let’s take the default computer recipe: it takes 4 circuit boards, 8 cables and 16 plastic. You should remember how to simplify ratios so that gives us 1:2:4 at 70 items per minute. You’ll need a mk2 at minimum at the end. Your natural inclination to mix a belt would be merge circuits and cables 1:2 using three ports of a merger then the resulting cable/circuit belt merged evenly with plastic. That would get you close but mixed belts MUST be precise at the ratio level or on the long term they will jam (eventually). What we have here is actually 4:3 plastic:mixed which a simple merge won’t do. So, an important note about belt mixer devices made of splitters and mergers is the ratio must be divisible by two OR three. 1+2+4=7 items per cycle which isn’t evenly divisible by two OR three so we have a problem here! How do we correct it? Same as in load balancers that feed some of a split that isnt evenly divisible by two or three further back in the system but in our case using an unrelated filler item and a smart splitter! Let’s presume iron ore because you will have it lying around and will only need a handful to prime a mixer.
    So we merge iron ore and circuits (2 items) we merge that 1:1 with cables (4items) we merge that 1:1 with plastic (8 items, evenly divisible by two) we have the smart splitter feed the iron ore back to where it’s needed at the start of a chain (minus 1 with that removal of the ore, equals seven items) since the iron ore never actually goes anywhere you only need 10-20 of it to float around the system. You then run “any undefined” further to your manufacturers and if you want to be fancy you can do your future self a favour by defining an overflow that feeds into a storage (or a short belt you can grab off of). Your final result will be Circuit Board, Plastic, Cable, Plastic, , Plastic, Cable, Plastic. The exact amount for computers That gap will smoosh out down the line as any gaps do.
    Is it scalable? Yes! I said “belt” and whether mk2 (as this recipe is 70 items per minute mk1 is unideal. You can do it if you really want, I guess) or mk6 as long as all the input belts are always full and all mixer belts run at the same speed the same ratio will be made at 70 items per minute or 770.
    is it splittable? Yes! But only with load balancers, manifolds are a bit screwy and break eventually as they do not respect ratios. My testing reveals if every station is fully primed at the start before machines are turned on they work longER but not forever. Two points on this: first and most importantly load balancers are objectively better for the default use case outside of some edge use cases you want a manifold for so this is fine. Yes, objectively. For all use cases but the few that manifolds excel at. You can rotate an elevator to connect to a merger/splitter beneath another and nudge it flush and or nudge the merger/splitter and rotate the belt and attach another splitter/merger in any shape you wish. Therefor: Load balancers are smaller, load balancers are even, load balancers never jam, load balancers respect any item ratios and load balancers begin production immediately. *Objectively* superior in the _generic_ use case.
    Second, since each mixed belt is purposely mixed to accommodate one singular fixed recipe a manifolds use cases don’t matter. Manifolds will spill overflow materials out of their tail end with a smart splitter and can be used for “belt logic” where the belt itself functions like a logic gate and will vary materials depending on usage (like what we did with the iron ore earlier using a tiny manifold). You will never feed a mixed belt manifolds overflow somewhere else like you might feed a single item with several use cases a la copper ingots using belt logic. So it’s fine.
    Though I am an advocate of mixed belts due to the many obvious pros mixed belts have two notable cons that you should know in good faith. Most mixed belt recipes take manual attention to set up the first time, though some are nice and only ask for X full belts. But other than those you must feed a filler item into the system from a storage, manually make sure the filler item doesn’t overflow it’s “buffer(s)” (the belt(s) feeding back from the end smart splitter to any mergers, if it overspills the mixer won’t work. It’s not difficult, it just has to be done by eye until you know how many fillers fit your BP, for my computer mixer it is 5 since the feedback buffer is a single elevator). And until all belts are full and the machine has hit its stride you’ll get some early “mix fails” you gotta grab by hand. Once all belts are backed up it works, and as long as they stay full. It works.
    Second, should one belt ever go empty because you are a goober and accidentally messed up the train deliveries or bungled production or whatever you’re gonna be in for a bad time. A mixer only mixes by ratio, if an items value is zero it doesn’t get mixed and it must be flushed. Remember I said be kind to your future self and have that smart splitter at the end of the mixer have an overflow? Well be even kinder and give the splitters that feed your manufacturers an overflow smart splitter too, then you only need replace the short belts into them and have the option to feed the overflow belts into a storage. This is entirely avoidable by using priority switches and powering down factory segments when you’re going to tinker with their upstream. Going to overhaul plastic production or redo the rails the train takes to deliver plastic? Just shut off the computer assembly wing for a while whilst the ratio is perfect. It’ll boot up clean every time as long as the system doesn’t run dry. But we plan for our own absentmindedness and those overflow splitters are great when you beef it.
    Give it a try, you’ll love it! (Or not, but then you know your preferred practices) 😁👍

      I hope this is the specs of your new one not your existing 15 fps machine. Turn down the graphics quality for now bud. 15 is brutal, but that new should be sick

    Im working on my nuclear build. I wont be feeding the manufacturers with manifolds. I will have to load balance all of them to keep it running at 100%. I dont settle for anything less than 100% uptime myself. I did a similar set up in my base with load balancing them underneath the manufacturers. Idk why I'm strange like this.

      I wish I would have found this video when I was first learning how to setup my manufacturers in my base lol. I just winged the whole base in my head and I love how everything is at 100% uptime.
