You are so awesome, i live in South Africa. Prices of food is sky high here and we have rolling blackouts everyday. Your emergency food storage is a great idea. Unfortunately we do not have a dollar tree here, but a few discount best before date stores. I am going to scoure them for cheap tinned items and make these kits. I love how down to earth you are. Sending light and virtual hugs. Keep up the good work. God bless
TY for sharing 💓 sending love from Ontario 🇨🇦
You have the best vibe! As I read this comment, I thought she has got to be so friendly and a Ray of sunshine! Thank you! I hope things get better in your area! ❤❤
You could totally reuse those 2.5 gallon bags too. As you use your meals, just save to refill.
I have seen your other videos on this and today it suddenly came to me that I can put meal kits like these together with recipes and place in our "little free pantry" !!! I live in a community of only about 1300 people and this would help.I know we have a need. GOD BLESS YOU!!!
Great idea
I'd still put the recipes in the bag so Dusty or the boys could still make them in case you aren't home or don't feel good
Also a good idea! When I was down with COVID in 2020, I was really sick but the kids were asymptomatic; they made it fine with what we had in the fridge and sandwiches, but they could have made simple meals also. That could work for you g adults moving out or going off to college too.
Years ago i had to go to our local salvation army for food. They gave us shelf stable meals in bags like this. Me and my girls started calling them "supper in a sack" we still do lol. So thankful they were there when it was needed
I thought you might like to know that I have used your emergency meal kits as a teaching tool in my classroom. I am an elementary special education teacher in a small town in Missouri. This year, I have been reading through the “Little House on the Prairie” books with my kids. We have watched your videos and compared how we eat and store food compared to how Laura describes food preparation and preservation during the late 1800’s. We’re talked about food shortages and preparedness in then versus now scenarios. I want my kids to know some practical things they could do if they needed to cook for themselves or if they wanted to make a simple meal some evening for their family, or that they could suggest to their parents if they knew they were low on funds. We’ve also used your videos to talk about comparing prices at the grocery store, food labels, nutrition, expiration dates, following a recipe, food safety-really quite a lot of things. They loved putting together kits and getting to cook and eat them. So this is pretty long, but I wanted to say thank you. You’ve inspired me to try something new this year, AND it was really fun and a hit with my kiddos!
Love your videos lady! With my kits I also add bottled or canned water so that if the power is out I still have enough water to cook the rice, pasta whatever I need to use it for and that way I am not worrying about using the drinking water for meals and it is all together. I also put colored stickers on my bags for each month and year so that it is easy to tell when stuff is going to expire so I can use it up.
Water and Electricity are 2 completely different utilities. Water works regardless if no Electricity obviously, dishwashers , disposals, electric water heaters and some water softeners & washers . (Cuz u have to plug them in)
@Yvette Monique not if you are on a well without a hand pump.
@@robertadunaway7030 exactly what I was thinking. We have a well, we also have a generator but I can't make my husband go out in a hurricane and set it up so we can keep pumping water, so I store water separately. Together in the bag I could just put individual bottles. That's a good idea, thanks!
@@yvettemonique4330, not for me! I have a well without a hand pump. That means no electricity,no water.
@@yvettemonique4330 I have a well that is to deep for a hand pump so no electricity = no water. For me and thousands of other people they are the same utilities.
I make small single person meals like this for when Im out of the house but I occasionally hand them out to buskers. things like packets of tuna or chicken and a pack of DT crackers and a pack of cookies or a can of viennas with the little cheese and crackers packets, ready to eat rice and a can of DT spam. I also have several premade freeze dried or dehydrated meals in the truck chuck box, things like deconstructed cabbage roll soup, sloppy joe/chili, chili-mac, hashbrowns with sausage, onions and peppers all they need is hot water and some time to rehydrate. I have vdo on the sloppy joe, cabbage roll and american goulash called Me and TVP
Brooke you need a show! I so look forward to your uploads. Your show could be called 🤔 sweet holler homestead with Brooke❤😂 love you girl!! I would totally watch it!
You are WAY too kind lol I love you, OG friend ❤
We have been in a medical bind I’ve been in the hospital 4 times in 6 months and had we finished getting our kits together it’s would have been helpful for the family (we started but got interrupted)
So if you or someone you know has a chronic condition/cancer they are also handy.
We are also using these as a learning and planning tool for our autistic son
Brilliant idea using these kits to help your son, we're an autistic family too and I can see how starting off meal planning with something simple to cook while also learning about preparedness would be fun.
If you stick a packet of yeast in with the flour, you could mix up a small loaf of artisan bread too! I also encourage hiding from a spouse if they raid them to eat all the pop tarts or potato chips you pack! Always good to plan for the worst, but live in the present!
Oh and Dusty’s Dollar Tree bug out bag ideas help us too your whole family are THE BOMB!
This new series is a winner.....love these ideas. And MUCH cheaper than those ready-made Emergency Meal Kits that you can buy.
Tuna noodle casserole would also be a good kit.
You are an amazing Mom. You are doing such a great job helping people in need. We need more people like you. I love your meal ideas. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work .👍❤
You guys are my favorite UA-cam family. I feel empowered when I watch yall videos. I learn so much. You share the best ideas and I don't spend 200 bucks a pay check on geoceries anymore 🎉
I am SO happy you are Not cooking your emergency meal kits!!!!! I've said b4...show us one when you Have to (about to expire by God's praise and grace)! Love you and your channel!!! Want to see more of your garden and chickens too
Extra points..emergency shelf stable no cooking necessary.
Example...instant pudding, shelf stable milk. No fridge necessary.
Re: meal #3 this also works with those tuna or chicken pouches, does fine with soy sauce instead of teriyaki sauce, and is also very tasty if you mix drained, canned corn in with the rice.
I am going to do this one and include french style green beans in the kit.
This is perfect timing Brooke!!! We just used up our last shelf stable meal that was set to expire the end of this month!!! Time to restock!!! Plus I sent several with my son that was in the process of moving and wasn't going to get paid for a week!!! I so love your videos girl! These are also AWESOME to take on vacation!!!
Great idea! Vacations would be awesome!
Who knew Velveta came in a small packet! ♥️
9:10 I LOVE the idea of making up these kits and putting them in my car! My Mom and I buy snacks from Dollat Tree to hand out to people asking for help on tbe road, but this is awesome! Dollar Tree now sells precooked rice, so I would give out that, but this is a GREAT idea!
Excellent! Love your videos! You are precious.
One item I have not seen you mention, but I am sure you know of is media creme by nestle. I keep this in my stock for anything you need cream. Add the acid for a sour cream. Coffee creamer, cheesecakes, cream soups, possibilities are endless.
Evaporated milk is great to have on hand, too.
You always make me feel inspired and lifted up. Thank you and keep up the fabulous work you do. I believe food should be a basic human right as well and everyone deserves to be fed.
Brook You could get rich if you made a recipe book. With pitchers. YES YES YES
Awesome from NY and yes we have like everyone else had use for this type of preparation!!! Bless you for doing this for us!!! You rock Miss Brooke!!!
Hi Brooke , Dusty and boys
Thank you for sharing this with us need to head to Dollar Tree and get these to add to my tote . Thank you Brooke for all your hard work putting this together for us. Sending lots of love and prayers 🙏❤
Hi Brooke , Dusty and boys , in addition to my meals I also added those small cartons of shelf stable milk it's ready to drink or cook with it comes in whole , 2% , chocolate and strawberry flavors I pack them in lunch's and snacks bags they taste great too
I get it at Walmart they come in a box of 12 to the box and the cartons of milk are 8 ounces perfect size for kids and adults
I also found at Dollar Tree cartons of water they are 32 ounce size square size boxes they are with the bottled water on the shelf . Thank you so much for all your hard work putting this videos together for us it helps so much .
Here's a Spam recipe my Momma would make when $$$ was tight
Spam Casserole
1 can Spam
1 can of cream of mushroom soup
1 can Corn, drained
1 cup of shredded cheese
For topping: crushed potatoes chips (any kind) or saltine crackers
Spices of your choice
Sautee cubed Spam, mix together Spam, cream of mushroom soup, drained corn, 1/2 cup of shredded cheese in a mixing bowl.
Put mixture in a greased cake pan. Add crushed chips or crackers.
Bake 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. The last few minutes add the remaining 1/2 cup shredded cheese on top. Return to oven until cheese is melted
I suppose you could do that with box scalloped potatoes too.
I couldn’t wait to get to dollar tree to buy some of those large zip lock bags. Because of you it’s where I buy my Texas toast and bread. Not only is the bread inexpensive it is delicious. They had English muffins and bagels too. What a delight! Thank you for your informative video!
Thank you for your amazing content! I've always had a reserve of food in my freezer and pantry. So many people don't have this cushion and are drowning financially & are in desperate need of food. Its heartbreaking 💔. I'm so glad you are teaching people needed skills to survive. I'm learning a lot from you all the time 😊.
This is one of my favorite videos that I have seen from you! It is so useful. Thank you!!!
You have excellent content ❤ I love all of your videos, ideas, and suggestions. Thank you for looking out for us. God bless you and yours always 🙏
I make these up with the ready rice that requires no cooking. I also have powdered soy sauce that I picked up from Amazon. I have passed these out to the homeless in my area and they are appreciative. Even with no real way to cook, these can still be warmed over a campfire. Have not been able to find a substitute for pasta yet. Thanks for sharing your ideas!
Excellent ideas! Thank you !
Check and mark expiration dates, y’all!❤
As usual…great ideas 🙆🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️
Great ideas for food pantries too
You have impeccable timing🙂. I just watched the previous videos a few days ago and started making meal kits. I have been building our emergency food storage but sometimes I look at it and think "this is a lot of food but idk what to make with it" so I decided to use that good to make meal kits and store that way. I figure in a true emergency I'll be stressed anyway so anything to lessen the stress is good.
I liked this episode so much. I'm off to Dollar Tree!
Learning to use whatever food is in the house is a great companion skill to the readied emergency meal kits.Apprciate thrifty meal ideas too.Thanks.
Please do a Walmart one of these! ❤
Nice meals! I would add a can of peas to the salmon meal!
That's great advice. But you need quick ready to eat food that you don't need to cook also, in case you have no way to cook. In those ziplock bag you need to add a can opener, enough bottled water to make the meal, paper plates or bowls, napkins and silverwear, for each meal bag. So in case of an emergency you don't have to look for anything you need.
Since those are items that would be necessary for every meal, a lot of people do those type of items as its own separate emergency kit.
I have been making those but using mostly dehydrated ingredients so I can put 2 cups of water and my contents into my 6-1 cooker and press a button for an easy meal.
For fried rice I went with parboiled rice, soy sauce powder and dehydrated peas and minced onions. I do not have the dehydrated carrots because of some problems with my food storage. I can add a can of meat if I want.
I did a burrito filling using dehydrated refried bean flakes, taco seasoning, dehydrated minced onions, dehydrated tomato flakes and dehydrated bell peppers. I have the ingredients set aside to make tortillas in pouches.
For another, I have Lipton Cream of Chicken powder, canned chicken, and fideo cut pasta to make a chicken noodle. I have a packet of dehydrated mixed vegetables as a side.
For another, I have Creamy Wheat, turbinado sugar and dehydrated fruit as a breakfast.
In the past 2 weeks, I have had to go through my food storage as I have found some problems. I had bug infestations in my unopened sealed Augason Farms buckets. I had a mold problem in many of the sealed unopened #10 cans of freeze dried foods.
I have others in my lineup.
I am going at least 12 of every meal with some at 22 at most.
Oh no! So sorry for all that expensive food that's supposed to last year's going bad on you. Hope they reimburse you.
This is such a good idea. Thank you😊
If you use the pre cooked rice pouches, most of these would be good for an emergency go bag.
My daughter has 4 kids. I’ve been telling her about you. New subscriber out shopping for her pantry right now. She loves you too!
Thank you!!! ❤
@@SouthernFrugalMomma no Brooke, thank you! I’ve always told her to be prepared for hard times. It took hearing from you to see how easy it can be. She’s 24 with 2 kids and her boyfriend who has custody of his 2. You never know what can happen and that’s a lot of tummies to fill!
I am going to make some of these for meals my son can pull and make whenever he wants to make dinner for us and doesn’t tell me ahead of time. I could also have him use for his lunches. 😊
Thank you for sharing ❤😊
👍😊❣️ Awesome!
These would be ideal for blessing boxes, too. Thank you!
With directions!
I love those bags from the 1.00 store. I have used them for so many things.
Great ideas!!!!
Brooke do this again from a different store. I love these meal kit videos!!!!
I like them all. BUT when you said emergency meal kits. I was thinking no electricity, & storming
I love being able to gift the meal kits. Hubby and I have a lot of dietary issues but when I get deals on shelf stable foods I put them in a box and when the box is full I drop it off at our local food bank. I’m sure meal kids would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for another great video.
Love it!❤
another winner--you rock! dts/usa
I've never heard of taco pasta. I guess I'll have to make it 1 day. Interesting.
Awesome Brook…ty
Thanks for all your help in finding emergency food ideas!!!
Thanks for sharing
Brooke thank you for all the great ways you help people I do believe y’all are making a difference love y’all great job
Enjoyed this.
I’m guessing, that your dollar tree, is equivalent to Poundland in the UK.
I call in most days, as I only live a five minute walk from the shops. I don’t drive.
Today I got a dozen free range eggs for 50p.
I like to hard boil them for snacks. 👍🙏
Love these 🎉... ask your local bakeries for any empty buckets with lids . I have gotten them from Sams
Great idea. The 2.5 gal I have were bought at Sams Club quite a while back, but $ tree price today would be compairable to back then. Definately wash well & reuse.
good ideas
Brooke
Great ideas for meals in this video. You never know when there is an emergency. I had taco pasta this week for the first time. Loved it. Hope you all have a great weekend.
These meals look good. I’d add 1-2 of the individual pineapple packs for extra flavor.
I made up some emergency meal kits, but I used wal-mart bags instead of buying special bags. Then I stored them in a plastic tote to protect from water damage from a storm.
Good idea 😊😊
This is amazing ❤ I know this will help so many people!
I did up bags of shelf stable no cooking required food products for the homeless on the way to my husband's cancer treatments last year. One bag even had dog food because the guy was always out there with his dog. Imagine my surprise a couple days later when the bags FULL OF FOOD were just left there where they were standing and begging. Sad. I was so horrified. Won't make THAT mistake again.
EDIT - if anyone wants to slam ME for trying to help, SCROLL ON BY. Thanks!! :-)
They may not have needed the food and left it for someone else. We have a regular pan handler near my work who lives in a run down rv. He gets food stamps and goes to the food bank so rarely need food. The rv is drivable and he has to move it every few nights so he pan handles for gas money, fuel to run his heater in the winter and his stove as well as buying water
@brittany d Then their signs shouldn't have said they were hungry and needed food. This was more than one. I put cigarettes in one bag because I had noticed him smoking and that guy took the cigarettes and left the food.
I was talking to someone who makes care packs for homeless people, and they told me the issue is much more complex than just providing random food. You have to consider everything from lack of utensils, lack of safe storage, the weight of the food, the persons dental health, vermin...
@Cheryl Nakao that's why I include a great variety AND plastic utensils. They can't use the "I don't like that stuff" excuse if they are truly hungry. It was not just one bag of food.
If I can easily hand them put the truck window they can carry them. The bags were reusable grocery bags with handles.
I have a family member who is a social worker. According to them, the best way to help the homeless is to donate to agencies that help the homeless, not by giving direct donations.
I love these meal pack ideas! Thanks Brooke.❤
A good idea might be to make a list of these kits with the expiry dates on them so you can do a quick check on a piece of paper instead of going through all the bags.
I have been slipping index card on my bags with recipes and notes just in case.
Great ideas Brooke
Omg great ideas. Thanks Brooke!! You are such a light in our lives
Such a great idea Brooke. Have a blessed weekend!!

Living in a high storm area here in Florida, this is such a good idea.
I found 3 gallon bags and I sent y’all a set too!!!
Wow where did you find them?? I need them for ears of corn to go in the freezer.
Yes please where did you find 3 gallon?
Southern Frugal Mama, Dena Krupp allowed me to find out the size of the salmon packs you used were.Want to say thanks for the info.
