Nice Video Vijay, My wife pursued her medical education in India, and she successfully completed all the USMLE exams after coming to the US. As a result, she secured a spot in a residency program. Her passion for medicine is evident, as she even took the exams while carrying twin babies.
It is a good eye-opener to the aspirants to Medical field. I appreciate your ending comments on the passion, commitments and striving hard to get their satisfaction of their doctor profession.

I'm a software engineer like many Indians in the US, but have considered going to med school in the US for a while. In the hopes that it may be helpful to someone else: Most schools don't have an age limit, and it is totally okay to go to med school with an undergrad in computer science. It is not particularly difficult to take the MCAT for those with a background in engineering. Also some schools offer a three year MD program with the same curriculum as the four year program. This is particularly useful for those who want to make career transitions.
Vijay Sir Your detailed presentation is excellent. I love your calculation sheet and always download your sheets. Which shows your strength of numerical literacy Sir. 💯
Love your videos and learned a lot about finance and investment from your videos. I have been practicing medicine in USA for the last 15 years. Totally agree with your assessment in this video. Financially it does not make any sense to become a doctor. I am not recommending my kids to enter into my field at all. you need a strong passion and commitment to become and be a doctor. Having said all this, I do not have any regrets choosing this filed. It is intellectually satisfying and I do not believe I would have job satisfaction in any other field.
Hi Vijay Babu Balakrishnan, Qq - Intention to pursue Medicine in USA is a cherished dream, but strong commitment, endurance & passion are indeed a valid part of the lengthy process. Anyways, USMLE is required for USA Residents as well. Please shade some valuable thoughts on it.
How would you say it doesn’t make financial sense to be a Dr in the US? They are one of the highest paid here at least $300k my PCP would be getting. Specialists earn way more.
Excellent video Vijay. I am in US for 15 years but never knew it takes this long to become a doctor. My son being in 10th grade , this video was very helpful. Looking forward to more videos on college education, student entrepreneurship etc.
Yes, my daughter was stubborn and choose her pediatrician field in her early 7th grade so I kind of accepted her but continued in telling her to be stubborn on her decision. Well said you need a passion than just making money to complete medicine.

Everything you mentioned are perfect and correct. Just want to add to what you said is that a few top students are likely to get full or partial merit-scholarship (not assistantship. Assistantships are need-based, not merit-based). My son went to medical school under the same pathway as you mentioned (4 yrs UG+ 4 yrs Med School). My son had full merit-scholarship in medical school. I paid more in UG for him than med school. But, this is not usual. As you mentioned, I paid for his college and so no loan. But, he has Roth-IRA in which he deposited all of his earnings in summer while he was in college. He had research job during summer and made some money which I advised to contribute to Roth. I agree with all the hardships you mentioned. We wanted to quit many times during this journey. He is a first year resident now, still struggling and working so hard. But, the field he chose is in high demand and hopefully, he can see some earnings after 4 years. Or, after 6 years if he goes for fellowship. I am a medical doctor from India and so, I am aware of IMGs and the difficulties in their pathways too. One thing I can say is that those in Primary care do not make much. Non-doctors easily and at a younger age make much more than a primary care doctor.
Excellent video. Explained in simple words. My friends daughter wanted to go to USA for higher studies in Medicine. Video is helpful for parents as well.
Thanks Vijay..Very insightful video on medicine field and view from financial angle..You are doing a great service to our community with this kind of videos... may god bless you.. Keep educating us..
Great Observation, Not only Doctors are in Medical they can become RN and various other fields as Allied Health courses which pay very decent, Tech Jobs are always at stake in chasing an number as you rightly mentioned the people who are passionate about can puruse mutiple opportunities.
Very nice elaboration with of Medicine qualifications in US by quick perfect conceived version! Also you omitted Fellowship mandate for specialist requirement that add additional 1-2 years of training beyond residency period. I graduated 2 of my daughters in Medicine and both worked hard and settled now in 2 different specialties!
Another good video. Apart from professional comparison with cost, we shoul let kids to chose their path but we as parents needs to provide completely visibility on different types of available career options. I sensed the similar pain in domains like become CA in india which needs lot of time & dedication. Finally, would like to appreciate your information in this channel, certainly it helped on financial & personal fronts.
Thanks for the detailed explanation sir , i feel studying in U.S is very difficult task than india .I feel practising in India is much more better i feel .
Its a detailed video with precise details Mr.Vijay Mohan. One specialty you have excluded in the residency program list is Pediatric Neurology which is 5 years. Also there are some combination specialties like Pediatrics + Internal Medicine, Pediatrics + Emergency Medicine etc.,
There is a catch our software developer "Appu" will finance his son "subbu" to become Doctor. :) I mean being employed in high paying Software field can easily finance their kids to become Doctors. Software engg makes Doctors ;) ;)
Understood parents shouldn't force children to become doctor in USA at least.. if they have passion, yes they can go ahead.. 11 years is not easy..Lots of peer pressure and sacrifice. So passion and dedication is important here. I heard 4 years mbbs course in india not enough.. they r going to hospital for less salary like 40k.. what else required in india to get good salary? Is mbbs worthy?
And you may also want to add the on stop brutal hours during residency . While passion may help alleviate some of the pain, impact to physique would be real.

sir, much informative video. one more request sir. can you please put video regarding federal aids and scholarships opportunities for college fees for H4 students until age 21 and F1 after that. with my priority date and current status I cannot get GC for at least next 20 years. for such students is it worth doing medicine (or any other major) here in USA or give NEET exam and do the medicine course or Engineering / IIT in India? Please make one video sir.
Sir can you invite Industry expert in any particular sector and do conversation/Interview. So that we get to know about that particular sector?? For example some one expert from chemical sector, Logistics sector etc
Couple of points you missed. Two semesters of college mathematics is required for the medical schools in the USA. Much different from Indian Medical college requirements. In my state of TN, one can mug up only the 12th standard books and vomit it out to get into Medical college. Of course if you are in the forward category, you compete for 32% of the seats against 100% of the applicants. NEET brought in some accountability, but the current government wants to scrap it. Pretty soon most of our doctors from my great state will be unemployable just like our engineering graduates. Also in your comparisons, you made an assumption of a constant $40k for a software engineer and a $100k for a doctor. The doctor doesn't get stock options, RSUs etc. The stress for a doctor, especially surgeons is very high, they become part salesperson.
My daughter is doing a 3 year fellowship after residency. You did not cover fellowships in your video. Also some specializations lead to higher salaries than what you mentioned. Also it varies tremendously from state to state and from urban to rural setting. But overall your presentation was very good.

If promoters in this company what role have ( CEO, MD, or any else) 8. Promoters have any salary package. ( if have salary package who desire the top one salary)
Sir,Is it mandatory to complete a residency in the USA? If not, can I return to India without completing a residency in the USA? If yes, what do I have to do after coming back to India to practice or study?
in india after 6 years once can get MBBS degree, it is very unfortunate, we dont find any mbbs practicing. it has become a necessity to compete for MD or MS another 3 years of study before one can start career as a doctor or consultant or for setting up practice. for an mbbs night duty doctor the payment is not more than 15,000 and the guy will be slogging with books for pg entrance while doing night duty in private hospital. pathetic struggle before any can settle..
