It is true that our Indian environment does not encourage reading much. I see my kids read all the time, though fiction books for the most part. But at least they have the habit of reading a lot. Big reason for that is, the libraries here are huge and all the kids are motivated to visit library at least once in a week. India has not got there yet. The only reading habit I had when I was growing up was - Rani comics, Poonthalir, Gokulam, Ambulimama, Baalamithra etc. 🤣 But reading habit is something that the kid needs to develop when they are little. If they are already in teens, they will be more interested in swiping tiktok videos rather than reading. It will be very hard to change them at that point. If your kid is young, encourage reading. Take them to nearest library. Let them get a liking for reading. They will automatically get hooked up into developing knowledge from reading as they grow up.
