I have a 2010 qx56 and the VK56 is an absolute beast. Sounds amazing, it just needs to breathe. So I put in a stillen intake, flowtech longtube headers, catted cajun b-pipes, and a Flowmaster 40 series muffler with a Rough Country tip. The bitch sounds mean af.
@Wes0602 so after my VK swap I miss the VQ. The VK is cool, but the VQ is quiet, it makes plenty of power down low, and it's better on fuel. They are extremely reliable too. Now, if your rig is stock, and manual, a VK would be amazing, and probably way better on fuel, but if I could go back in time, I would have just regeared to 4.08 gears and called it a day. I'd be much happier, and have other cool things to spend my money on.
@ I really appreciate that man. Any insight helps in forming the route I go with my Xterra a whole lot. Unfortunately i’ll be rocking what I got while saving because i’m 20 yadayada, but that just gives me time to decide haha.
I have been stuck on the fence on whether to VK swap a Gen 2 X or just buy a 80s series Landcruiser and simply throw a lift, tires & supercharger on it. IMHO, it comes down to whether I want something thats an all out beast off-road, that has decent on-road mannerisms (80 series Landcruiser). OR Something that is a beast off-road, fits down smaller trails and is still super fun on the pavement (VK swapped Xterra). Very tough decision IMHO and if I were rich, I'd simply have BOTH! LOL!
If California would let me then the VK56 would definitely go in when the stock engine dies. 😁 That said, I've already swapped just about everything else. Titan brakes are next so I can get some decent wheel choices.
I can't help but feel that a 80 series landcruiser with locking front, rear & center diffs and a stock in-line 6 cylinder would have made it up that snowy hill on the 1st try.... (Yes, I LOVE this VK Xterra and own a Xterra but there's a lot to be said for locking 3 diff set-ups)
If I had a dollar for every video I watched and said "my truck could have done that easy", I'd be a millionaire lol But truthfully, if he had lockers front and rear, and was in 4lo, with his tires aired down more, I think he would have been able to made it up. I believe a made the first tracks. I can't remember now.
I disagree, as you can see by the fact the Xterra slides down when it stops going up the hill... there is really little if any additional traction to be had by being able to lock the front. Also the Xterra has one of the better brake based LSD systems on the market. This sliding mess of a hill requires more momentum, so for the xterra to have made it up all it needed to do was back up and take a longer, faster run at it with less air in the tires. It would have spun less and momentum would have carried him further.
@brianmorgan6039 it's not mine. It's a buddies, but I'll pass on the kind words. His response will likely be sell the first Gen and build a 2nd gen if you want a easy V8 swap
@@TreeLovinAdventures I just can’t right now. POSSIBLY after I’m done I might, but I got this bad boy for a steal, $1,500. I’m building it as a first car for my daughter and my weekend off roader. sheeeesh that thing sounds goooood

Sounds like a monster truck. Haha. Ready to jump over 3 cars.
I hope this is me within the next few years lol.. till then may my 4.0 serve well🙏😂.
The 4.0 is a fantastic engine. Keep it for as long as you can.
@ i appreciate it and absolutely will! What makes it so great in your opinion? Hope you don’t mind me asking.

Having just VK swapped the Frontier, I don't think I would do it again unless it was for a street truck with a manual. That would be Hella fun.
Dam that VK X sounds sexy AF! ❤
I shouldn’t have watched this video. 😮 Damn that’s hot.
Does that mean it's time for you to swap?

@Tree Lovin' Adventures and of course that sweet M205 elocker!
@Justin Wages our engine just keeps going so its hard to want to get the VK in to replace a perfect engine.
@@TreeLovinAdventures Agreed!
the m205 and cv's are so strong they can handle a v8 with 37? perfect truck.
Guys put 37s on their Titans all the time with no issues so it makes sense

2-3 mpg

God that sounds good. Im VK swapped as well with Borla XR1 muffer but on 33s lol BL for 37s or SAS?
Not too sure what the details are on the suspension. I believe it is a BL, drop bracket, and Titan swapped
That's a badass rig, what year vk is that? Beautiful trail too
I'm not too sure. I believe it's an 09.
God damn!!!!
Any lockers or LSD?
It has a rear ARB air locker that rarely works.
@@TreeLovinAdventures Still amazing nonetheless. An ITB setup would make that vk scream.
9mpg? ;)
Suspension ?

@@TreeLovinAdventures he’s 6” bracket/diff drop lift kit too right? On 37s
Yes. Sorry. Extended radflo 2.5s with a drop bracket, custom rear SUA leaf pack.
Where is this?
In the East Kootenays, BC
